The camera is amazing, I also can’t believe how good it is. Note that the stabilisation works better with native Sony lenses and knocks out the minor shake. Note you were using a Tamron, much better with Sony lens.
nice review. FYI. Try turning the shutter speed up to about 1/250 and higher when using dynamic Ibis. that will eliminate the blur you are getting when running. Your shutter speed might be too low for that.
This is literally the first explanation of this camera that makes sense to me, that makes me feel like it should even exist. It's an A7 S3, or an fx3, but tiny. And especially if you are running and gunning by yourself, doing Guerilla filmmaking, the small size can be a great advantage. Thanks such for a great review.
2:38 Calling the built quality premium is crazy… I just switched to zve1 from a7iv for the smaller size. I love it but the only thing I hate about it is the low quality plastic-like material. It’s even much worse than the metallic material on a6400, which is only a fraction of the price.
Dynamic Active stabilisation gets much better with shutter speeds above 1/200 sec. 1/400 sec for your running around or your car would be even better. Of course this means taking off the ND for regular 180 degree shutter speeds of 1/50th or 1/100th second.
Love my zv-e1. Used it for all my content since the beginning of the summer. No issues with overheating at all. It does get warm but I recorded a 45min interview outside in the sun without any issues. I am running the Viltrox 16mm 1.8. In dynamic stabilization its at about 24mm.
@@TheA4mfilms that definitely seems like a defect. I heard the earlier units might have had some issues. I also heard that one of the firmware updates helped with the issue. Not sure if any of this is true. A friend of mine purchased one a few months ago, it overheated and shutdown somewhere around 15 minutes. After he changed the setting to "high temp" he didn't have any other issues but 15min in low temp is crazy. Supposedly it will overheat if you are not using a Sony battery. I still haven't had any issues with mine. Last night I recorded a 2 hour video podcast with it. I just changed out the battery when it reached 20% but I ran straight through. I used my a7iii as a second camera and quickly remembered that there is a 30min recording limit on that thing. Supposedly due to overheating concerns. So that sucked.
I love the zv-e1, it's been solid for me. I love how small and lightweight it is, it helps big time when shooting top down video with c stands. No more 10 lb weights needed, lol. Love this camera.
Yes it was likeable till now as the crown was taken by DJI Pocket 3 with many more useful features like wifi, bluetooth, gimbel etc...& fraction of the price.
Hey sensei I just wanna say you are amazing and keep up the great work. I have finally saved up a decent chunk towards my dream of video production and content creation. I was wondering If you think this option is still viable in 23 going into 24. Planing on buying Fx3 with 24-70 gm II , 50mm 1.2 gm. I didn’t hear anything about using the camera for a long time, did you have trouble for long periods of time? I am looking for a camera that will capture me for about 2 hours non stop to record me during my performances. I was curious if you have recorded that long
Still on the border line to buy fx30 or zve1 as my first evwr camera, the only thing I am worried about is overheating! While 4k 60 can you tell me as an content creator and cinematographer which camera is gonna suit me more? Specially in warm outdoors like in 40° celcius summers !
Great review, loved the fact that you have decided to use it as an actual vlogging camera to try out it's capabilities. Although I haven't used it myself, through all the reviews during it's release I thought to myself: this is probably a perfect camera for a marketing department in a business. Like for people who have a budget, but not necessarily the knowledge or patience to find out what camera is "best" for social media content. But I am glad that you have found another use for it, being so lightweight.
I’m evaluating FX30 and Zve1 due to the fact that I broke the screen of my A7rIII 😢 (400€ to repair too much) I have a marketing agency so I shoot video for commercial proposes, in your opinion which of these two camera should I go for?
I was going to pull the trigger on the older FF Sigma FP... because the footage looks sooooo good (I think better than BMCC6K and FX3 etc)..... would you choose ZV-E1 over the FP? :)))

I've been saying this. It's my favorite camera. It's so fucking good. It does everything. I love it. I'll maybe get an A7siii for redundancy, and more photo focused jobs, but I love that 12mp sensor for everything. I don't want anything else.
@@KenseiAkatsui was thinking the same thing watching this. I've heard dynamic works much better with native Sony lenses. I'm thinking about spending more for the Sony 16-35mm GMII because of this and for the extra versatility on the wide end.
Excellent review Kensei. I already own it and very glad to hear this honest opinion. I actually use it a lot for photography and it performs really well for me. When I need more megapixels I use tools to enlarge my raw files and have noticed no issue with that workflow. For the most part, though, 12mp is perfectly fine for my needs.
Thanks for the review! Just want to ask something real quick, on my FX30, the active stabilization works better on Sony lenses compared to third party lenses, is it the same on the ZV-E1 with the Dynamic Active mode?
Its funny that people still complain about the build quality when the fx3 and A7siii exist the ZV-E1 wasn't intended to be a professional camera it was designed to be lightweight, user-friendly and “affordable”. you can't get all those specs plus a magnesium/weather sealed body for under 2500$ 😂
i can’t decide between a7c mark 2 and zve1. Since you are familiar with both cameras please answer my questions if you may . 1- a7c mark2 has 7 stop active stabilization. what about active mode on zve1? 2- if i use viewfinder on a7c2, do i still need to interact with lcd to change settings? i have to wear glass to read fine prints. i am hoping to avoid glasses if possible. 3- can you customize dynamic stabilization option on a body so that you can turn it on quickly instead of going through menu .
I haven't tried A7CII yet, so Im answering them based on what I know! 1 - The active IS felt no special. It was pretty same as other cameras's active mode. 2 - I think you can still change settings with a viewfinder. Basically you see same stuffs on both of LCD screen and viewfinder. 3 - Yes you can!
This is the third housing case for the same video technology from 2020, now delivered three years later. Of course, the ZV-E1 is a great camera, but the A7Cii provides new updated tech. Cheers!
Love it but it's a bit overpriced for a full frame of only 12MP. I would totally buy it if it was at least 24MP so some photo is possible with it. But just to be stuck with a $2000 'video' centric camera, I would much rather get an FX3 or something similar rather than this. What is the point ? Even the ZV-1 (point and shoot) has 20MP so some photos are still going to look crisp enough on a larger screen. This is competing with the Canon R8 and I have the R8 and it's incredibly powerful for an entry level full frame at $1500 and with the same sensor from the R6 Mark II.
It's the same sensor as the FX3 and the A7Siii. Lower resolution means better low light performance. If you want a hybrid shooter that this camera isn't for you.
@@junholee1608 Yeah, figured that out already thats why it's not on my top preference. For now I got the Sony A7CR and A7CII with 61 and 33MP. You can see where I'm going with this :)
