Panasonic just announced a firmware update which removes the 15-minute record limit. Why the limit was there in the first place when the camera is evidently capable of recording longer, I don't know.
No mention of the IBIS difference? To me this is one of the biggest factor to choose one over the other, specifically for vlogging, you can see it in your comparisons. Also, the S9 24mp vs 12 of the ZV, that is a considerable difference, for photo and hybrid zoom. In terms of the record limit, year the S9!has a set limit, but the ZV will overheat, so there’s an unknown limit there, depending on other factors
exactly...that's probably the most important thing... no one wants shaky ass videos in 2024... no matter how much people want to convince us about the recording limits...
The 12MP sensor makes the ZVE1 a one trick pony, (video only), whereas the 24MP sensor makes the S9 a more rounded option for those wanting to use it as a more balanced EDC photo camera. I wish it had a grip, a mechanical shutter, a PASM dial, and a exposure compensation dial.
At least two great (maybe best) portable cameras for travel videos. I own Zv-E1 and I'm happy but Lumix made a great job and I hope it will sell a lot.
got the s9 cause i want something fun, while i wait for lumix to drop the s1hii. really hoping that comes out with 4k120 no crop full af with subject detect, hd480 with pdaf, and opengate 422 60fps
One thing about build quality - Sony uses cheaper buttons and dials in these bodies - They wear out way quicker and get mushy after a few months of active use. Although I have not used Lumix S9, usually lumix does not compromise on these things.
12mp is pretty much out of photo side. For video side, S9 has better IBIS, Open Gate, but with record limit. ZV has lens choice. But have often you record long video?
I think a lot of it is your work flow. I like editing everything myself, shooting dancing in dark bars, and shooting video with vnds so ZVE1 for the win. Tamron lenses are all 67mm filters so it's easy to use just one vnd for all my video needs. If you want the faster workflow to social media, it's Lumix for the win.
@@KenseiAkatsu great hope your family especially baby is doing fine .. also please share your thoughts about best travel camera option between these two
Nicely done! Both are great, but ZVE1 and vlogging not that great (too jittery), but great anywhere else. S9 cool..and probably very good for the run and gun crowd.
If I only needed a main camera, I would take the Sony, otherwise the S9. I already have some L-Mount cameras, so I bought the S9 for small set up. I really like the LUMIX mobile App it’s so useful
Absolutely meaningful comparison, but the S9 is availabre in red/green/blue and has no grip at all, it has the classic camera body design. The only competitors are the crazy expensive manual-focusing-only Leica M10 and M11, or the almost no grip Fujifilm X-T50. For S9 the fantastic looking, excellent performing Sigma i series prime lenses are available, for X-T50 you have similar lenses, that is the real competition.
Other people in the comments are saying this wasn’t a needed comparison and is like comparing apples to oranges but remember the companies both marketing to content creators they just went about it differently and advertising to different subgroups of content creators but I believe they are comparable from a beginner/noob pov After watching some reviews reviews on the s9 on paper the zv-e1 blows the s9 out of the water but in real time usage that doesn’t seem to be the case…what I see a lack of in the reviews for the s9 is an in depth review of the lumix system most zv-e1 reviews talks about all the modes most s9 reviews don’t?
Hahaha had ZVE1. It said to be a vlogging camera. But its stabilisation is nowhere near to GH5M2. Got me frustrated and sold it. I’m looking at S9 now. For minimalist video shooter, i am looking a camera that is good in stabilisation and don’t want to carry gimbal when going around cities or places. Now S9 has released a 18-40mm lens, it really pushing to return to lumix..😊 PS: i had GH5M2 and GF10 cameras. Still missing those MFT lenses.
Greaaaat!! I will go for the fun S9 since I am already in the Lumix eco-system...what about rumors that Lumix is having lots of financial trouble and that it will not be sustainable as Sony in the long run ? One question: what would be the best lens to get for the S9 that is versatile but NOT bulky and heavy?
You can take 2 seconds to move the green slider from yellow to blue. That's what happens when you slap a lut on 2 different log profiles. It's not going to look the same.
This is just not true, I was Nikon now Sony, I like my Sony camera because it works so well. Having Sony's new microphone on the top and a headphone jack makes a world of difference for quick recording and monitor check
I’m looking at zve1 28/60. Or lumix s9 18/40 lens. Tried the Sony picture was great. But ibis jittery even in dynamic. Would lumix match the picture video quaity
I wasn't even comparing these two, if I was gonna get an S9, I would get the S5II, but I was comparing S5II to the ZV-E1, and I think the same things are basically true, ZV-E1 is more video focused, S5II is more evenly balanced for photo and video, and does literally everything the S9 does (and a lot more) for 250 grams more.
I think the ZV-E1 is a perfect example of how you strip out features from an all-star camera (A7SIII), to create a more limited but still awesome camera. I, personally, think that the S9 was not as good an example, as they should have leaned into video or photography, but they kind of created big limitations for both use cases. If it's gonna be a ZV-E1 competitor (at a better price), it shouldn't have hard coded record limits and should have better audio support (like the hot shoe and the headphone jack). I really love how DJI made the adapter so you can use their wireless mic's for Sony's hot shoe, makes it perfect for vlogging (although ZV-E1 has a great mic already). If it's gonna be a Fuji X100VI competitor, it should have kept the mechanical shutter, and a viewfinder. Instead, it kind of doesn't stack up favorably to either of those cameras, because it has compromises. To avoid those issues, you can go to the S5II which I think compares pretty well for photo or video use cases. The S9 being 250 grams lighter is nice, but once you add a good lens, I don't see it being a meaningful weight or size savings. If I had to rush out the door and could only grab one camera, I would not want to grab the S9, because I would be too worried about its limitations, I would grab the S5II with no reservation, confident I could probably do pretty much anything I wanted.
If ill get lumix, then ill get s5iix instead of s9. 15min record limit? Come on! I guess they limit s9 recording time to avoid over heating because like zve1 they put so much into a small body. So i guess ill be keeping my zve1 until i find reason to purchase s5iix.
The director of The creator said one of the reason that they choose Fx3 for the film is the amazing color. So who should we listen to. A famous director, right?
@@KenseiAkatsu If you look beyond the spec sheet and form factor you'll realize that the ZV-E1 is made with content creators in mind, while the S9 is more targeted to enthusiast consumers/maybe aspiring professionals. Just because content creators pick it up and make their contractually obligated videos with it, doesn't make it a suitable camera for them. Lumix also paired it with a new app to transfer files, so I get the confusion. Bottom line is the utility and value that each offers, and in this case it just doesn't seem like a valid comparison. They are two differently marked cameras, at majorly different price points, with different pros and cons for each one, and a clearly different target audience.
