This is probably the best review/hands on of the UA OX! Totally appreciate this
Thanks for watching Sam!
That’s the best Ox demo I’ve seen. Great job
Really good job, good playing, good review by real people. I think it's probably one of the best demo of OX with all things we need to know and hear. Thanks buddy, you totally rock !! Hope the footswitch will be for changing RIG preset in live situation !
Best walkthrough of the Ox, by far....thanks, dude.
Great demo on the UA OX, explained a lot, went through everything - now I want one!
Killer!! Just bought one yesterday and am on my way to pick up cables now. Excellent in depth vid. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this thing. Thanks brotha
We're seeing more and more of these being used for live rigs too! Enjoy yours
Cool - real time demo that makes sense of the whole thing. Thanks for this!
Really good overview of the Ox. Gets to the meat of it without the fluff. Got a subscribe!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
This is a great review of the Ox - mine has just arrived and this is the most helpful video Ive seen and also its great watching someone who loves what they're doing - thanks from the UK
Hello Ian, how do you like the Ox so far?
@@triclops8 Love it!!
Thanks. This was helpful and mind-opening video. Cheers
just got the OX and i love it. There so much you do on there.
Exactly! Studio and live use - it's become one of our favorite pieces of gear!
Great to see you Todd and hi to all my buds at Corner! Excellent video. Great store! If Todd likes it, I probably will too! Email sent to the boss! Great demo! Love your JCM tone!
Congratulations about your video! Pretty amazing ❤
Great demo. I'm sold.
Thank you for this video!! You are amazing!
Great video! Excellent.
This video made me so excited, I’ve got mine coming later today. If I can get sounds anywhere near as good as this I’ll be one happy camper. Cheers dude, great video!
Hello Ed, how do you like the Ox so far? Thanks.
@@triclops8 Hi, I love it. I’m getting much better attenuation if I choose to use it than I did my torpedo. It doesn’t interfere with the tone half as much. Also, the speaker simulations are incredible in comparison to my Cab M. To start with I was messing around with it using a deluxe through decent headphones and thinking man I’ve spent a grand on this. 10 minutes later, I dialled in a sound properly and literally had a holy shit moment and got goosebumps. I literally had to run down to tell my wife how good it was 😂. I’m getting a bit of noise at the moment but I think that’s purely down to the location of my amps to the computer, so going to move things around a bit to isolate it. All in all, I’m super happy. Thanks
@@edparker3549 Thanks a lot for sharing your experience my friend! Sounds amazing! I´m pretty sure to take the plunge as well! :)
The wifi works ok? Some comments say it’s not very good
@@felipeleschot I’ve never had an issue with it. I believe it was fixed in the V2 firmware release. Anyway, once you’ve developed a sound you like, save the rig as a preset and just select the rig with the dial. If you’re a tweaker then you will need WiFi.
Toddzilla! Sold me my first PRS in ‘93/‘94
Thank you, exceptional break down of the workings and functionality of the UA OX set top. My self, just setting mine up with a Vox tub AC30WH60 Combo and still figuring out some of the processes that are on offer. How do you turn on the Delay & Modulation etc This video will go a long way for people new to this product and its opperation. 👍
Great review thanks!!! I want one.
thanks man, cool video, probably the best about ox features,i didn't knew why people even buy this thing, now i know
Awesome demo! Tnx
OUTSTANDING Review!!! 🇺🇸
thanks for the vid
Excellent review. Can't wait to get an OX and a Plexi reissue! I actually had a Kemper and didn't get on with the sound at all. Very harsh. Looking forward to the OX!
Same here. Tried going Kemper and ended up going back to real amps and have no regrets. The Kemper really falls apart if you need to make gain/eq changes post profile. Drilling through menus gets real old too.
harsh u serious?
Best video on this unit I've seen! Great job. Man that JCM800 you have is a beast.....were you using a pedal or was it modded? I've never heard a JCM800 have that much gain without at least a boost.
Great !
Todd your hair is awesome
I didn't quite understand what you meant at the 3:00 mark, though I assume it was a reference to the Kemper. With the Kemper, if you want to take some midrange out or add a little bass, it's simple. The unit has mid and bass controls on the front. Granted, the tone controls don't necessarily react exactly like the tone controls on the actual amp for whatever profile you're using, but it's really no different than adjusting the midrange and bass with an EQ.
I think in High Gain mode is where we really see if the thing works, this is the best high tone with OX till now, UA should send some pedals for this.
agree
GREAT VIDEO! I have a few questions if you don't mind.....
*How would one run a stereo amp set up (dual amps left, and right)? I do not see how it is option.
* With that question does the delay have a "dual delay option"? Say you want one delay at 500ms, and a second at 375ms..... Strymon timeline does this very well allowing you to go in stereo L/R or mono sum the delays. I see it has a L/R analog output so I assume it is possible.
Thank you for putting the time into making this video. Very informative.
Best demo I’ve seen so far on this OX, thanks very much for clearly explaining what it does, make me want one for sure!
Q: Now that it’s been a while since it’s release would you say it’s still a must have? Or has there been some stiff competition in this area? Is the Ox a good pick up or are there better/more affordable options that shouldn’t be overlooked? How does this compare to Boss or Neural? Thanks
I am also curious about this
Hey Todd, just a comment, the USB (and the footswitch) ins and outs are NOT functional. You cannot go to your DAW from the USBs. It is written in the manual. Just wanted to clarify this. The OX is awesome, I have one. Great review man!
just got the ox box. I'm still trying to figure out how to work it. I have Scarlett 18i20. Can I run the line output into the mic level line inputs on the Scarlett?
Very good video. The only one I viewed that showed the OX running both analog (out of a real speaker cab with attenuation) and digital (virtual cab/mic combos) at the same time...meaning switching back and forth. I thought only one or the other could be used.
I also assume based on the OX back panel, that direct input into power monitors and using the digital side, could be a set up for small venues (correct ?). That is, bring a guitar, amp head, powered monitors and cables and be able to get a myriad of sounds using the tube amp head and speaker/mic/effects from the Ox. This would be for venues with no PA and no FOH option.
The question I have is the connection to a DAW. Currently I have a budget Focusrite 2i2. Will be getting a more robust DI soon. But at this point, I do not understand how I would connect the Ox to the Focusrite 2i2 so I can record into lets say, Garageband or Logic Pro on my Mac.
Do the line outputs of the Ox run into the front end jacks of the Focusrite 2i2 ( this has 2 connections for mikes or 1/4 inch jacks) and set the switch to Line on the Focusrite...and then hook power monitors to the Focusrite 2i2 back panel line outs ? Or am I SOL on the Focusrite 2i2 DI and have to buy an new DI ?
Really set on an OX for the simplicity and tone. I know there are others out there that are comparable, but with more bells and whistles, but I like the Ox interface.
Actually the 1/4" monitor outs of the OX are mic level. They're made this way so you can still run directly into any microphone preamp of your choice.......so with the Focusrite 2i2, you'll actually need 1/4" to XLR Male cables and plug into the XLR inputs. If you were to plug into the 2i2 with 1/4" cables, you'd bypass the pres if you selected line level or hit the pres at too low a volume and have to crank the gain really high where there'd be noise. And you are correct about using the 2i2 line outs to go to your monitors!
@@cornermusic5057 Thank you so much for the reply. It was extremely helpful.
Looking at the UA Apollo Twin series now and it seems that would be the next move, since it has the Optical connection and would marry very well with the OX since they are both UA products. At least I know at this point I have an option to use the 2i2.
Active monitors are the priority now.
Will this work on my combos deluxe reverb and Marshall sv20c?
Why do you need the direct boxes? I have my run into two channels of the Scarlett 18i20. Or is that the same thing?
I know video is old but why are you using the direct boxes instead of line level in to the daw?
Have you tried line level?
Any difference - better or worse?
Hi love the demo thanks a lot ;-) When you compare this to Impulse responses what makes the OX so special? Cheers.
Sorry for the delayed response! The advantage of this is being able to change your amp settings on the fly as you normally would for any performance. The OX really is just impulse responses but there are THOUSANDS of them in all sorts of combinations which you can manipulate any way you want down to the smallest detail, i.e. adding a rug under the speaker to dampen the room sound.
Can you explain how to hook it up to logic
hey man can you run the ox's modeling and effects without going into a daw? guitar/ox/amp set up dont do the trick? asking because i literally just ordered one under that assumption lol
Yes you can use the OX without using a DAW. In the video, Todd actually goes into great detail explaining how he uses his OX for live shows. He takes his iPad with him but only for backup. He sets up his presets (accessible on the front of the OX) before a show and never needs to touch anything while he's playing! Hope this helps!
Corner Music so you can use the effects like reverb and modeling solely through or speaker cab??
Great video, I had two and sent both of them back. Here is what my confusion is, I was running a Fender Deluxe Reverb. I could not get the present tones to work. All I wanted to do it not use the house or DAW. Just plug my guitar in and use the pre-sets. Not sure what I was doing wrong and UA did not provide any support. I wrote them via a real live letter. That was three months ago, nothing. Now, I understand I may be the problem. But, man it can't be that hard to figure out. Can you help?
Were you plugging the guitar directly into the OX without using an amp?
@@cornermusic5057 Thank you for getting back with me. I plugged in the guitar into the Amp and then into the Ox
@@jon-nolanacousticsingerson9920 So the presets and sounds created by the OX don't actually come out of your Fender Deluxe Reverb. The "OX sounds" can only be heard from the Line/Mon outputs going to the house or your DAW...OR listening from headphones on the front of the OX. It sounds like you may be looking for an effects processor and that is not the OX.
@@cornermusic5057 Thank you sir. I appreciate you taking the time to share that. It would be nice if Universal Audio figured out a way to do that, along with the USB issues.
@@jon-nolanacousticsingerson9920 Agreed! Perhaps that will be a future update...only time will tell!
Hey dude thanks for the video :)
I just bought the Ox and a Apollo twin X duo and I'm not sure if I should be using the S/PDIF or the Line/MON OUT?
at the moment I've got both plugged so should i only be using one and which would you suggest for the best quality recordings?
Another question
when recording on Logic pro X I noticed the guitar audio isn't quite as good quality when i play it back so is there something im doing wrong in the settings?
Thanks a bunch
Hey Dean, I'd say stick to using the Line Outs on the back of the OX to connect to your Apollo Twin X Duo. **Even though the OX states "line out" we're pretty sure it's actually a mic level. That way you can still go into your favorite mic preamp, or in your case use the Unison Preamps in the Apollo without any hiccups.
As far as playback is concerned, what you put in "SHOULD" be what you get out. I would suggest checking your settings in Console. Since you're using an Apollo - make sure that if you're loading up effects in the Console input strip that you have it setup to RECORD those to Logic and not just MONITOR. That way all your effects are printed to the audio file while recording and you'll hear the same thing on playback!
Hope this helps!
@@cornermusic5057 thank you dude i shall give it a try :)
It looks like the Ox app is on your music computer. I don't see an iPad anywhere. How are you getting the Ox app to show on your Mac computer? I thought you had to use iPad or iPhone.
Thanks for the question! The OX app is indeed running on Todd's computer. You can use it on Mac or iPad - there has been a recent update that allows use on PC with Windows 10. To make any changes beyond the presets and other controls possible with the knobs on the OX itself, you must use the application. It is connected through WiFi though no internet is required. Hope this helps!
I legit can't close my wide-open mouth staring at his 80's hair though! What'd he say?
I think the gist was "TURN IT UP!"
so it acts like an audio interface too?
No it only takes your guitars signal from your amp, attenuates it (if you choose to) and applies digital processing to it. Then your processed audio is outputted in stereo. You can send it to a live mixer or your interface or preamps.
I know it'd be tough to fiddle with but would this load on an iPhone?
@@roballan5952 yeah I got it a few months ago. Honestly now that I have a few rigs in preset I don't ever use the app. So if I ever need to tweak something I just log in directly via laptop and make the change.
If Dog the bounty hunter played guitar.
No on the USB. Yes on Spdif.
