    You should add a db reader into the recording room, so we have an idea of how loud some of these sounds are.

      I agree but after watching this channel for as long as I have I'm pretty sure they don't blast most of the time. Maybe different now in the new room but I recall them mentioning they are keeping it reasonable volume... IDK

      TPS just did one, although it wasn't a comparison it was just a demo of both.
      I'm still none the wiser as to what these things really do and how to use them.
      It's all a bit too high-tech for me (anything that involves anything more than basic computer use is like Kryptonite to me).

    My 2 cents: I would love to see the next version be exactly what this is PLUS the addition of modeled amps that you can mix in with your real world amps etc.. with a true flat DI that you can output to a track for re-amping later. And a hi z input for the guitar. Then I feel it would be the absolute perfect piece of gear.. Great job UAD! Keep it comin'.

    So nice to hear from an expert, what we have already experienced, that most reactive loads ruin the sound, and that IR-s are NOT a perfect reproduction of a speaker! Finally the truth had been said, despite the loads of commercial advertisements, wich all claim their device to sound perfect!

    Great job on a tricky subject. Tricky in the sense that it takes us a little out the typical guitarist knowledge comfort zone. Also tricky because of the variety (and price range) of RL attenuators ... some of which you really must question if they are what they claim at all. I'm particularly interested in this topic at the moment (for my Vibro-King, HRD) so I'm ramping up understanding of these products. A shoot-out of similar boxes would be very helpful. The Tone King video was also interesting, but sadly, with a 30W power rating it can't be used for either of my amps. 2 things I've already concluded 1) this category of product is very much "you get what you pay for" and 2) we've come a long way from the Marshall Power Brake!

  • @guitfiddleblue

    This looks pretty cool. I personally can't imagine ever needing one, but I suppose if I had a 100watt tube head it'd make sense. There's so many GOOD low watt tube amps now though for gigging and recording.

  • @jensenbell

    I don't know why it took me so long to watch this one... but damn... the Captain just did such a great job asking the perfect questions and clarifying things that I had not realized from other videos and descriptions about the OX. $1200 USD (shipped) for a top of the line reactive load with attenuator is already a good deal, but then you get their unbeatable mic emulation, then their unbeatable compressor emulation... then their unbeatable plate reverb... so that's worth the $1200 easy. Now on top of that you get their rooms, their room mic and amp mic placements, their eq, their deep algorithms of speaker cabinets.. basically free. But THEN you get a wide variety of rare and prized speakers that you can change in an instant that you can age and make cry? JEEEEZ. I thought this thing was snooty and high priced. Wrong. This thing is a must have for someone who tours mid level rooms where amp miking is difficult and absolutely a boon for guys like me who travel to studios (modern ones are often in non traditional locations like storefronts and back houses in homes) with preciously maintained amps from the 50s and 60s. Sure, mic my 53 year old speaker. But you can also have other speakers too! And simultaneously record a track of DI for your own IRs! Owning this will get me more repeat work, absolutely. ************** To answer your question, LEE, I would love it of you used this for every demo in the future EXCEPT amps where we want to hear the stock speaker to determine if they chose a good one. Get me? I want to hear the speaker if the product is selling me a speaker as part of the amp. If you are demoing a new amp head? Psh. Put it in the OX so I can hear it even better. All the pedals... Tube Amp and Ox would be great. ******** Great video. I learned a LOT!

  •  7 лет назад +6

    In my opinion the only major oversight seems to be there is no line in. So you can play with headphones with a fully produced sound, but with no backing track.... bummer. I guess there's also a missed opportunity to have this work as a audio interface through the USB connection... Still a very appealing product.

    • @JimmyDevere
      @JimmyDevere 6 лет назад

      What I would do is using my UA Apllo interface and Console app, is take the line out as in input and then mix the signal from there to monitor recording, play along with DAW, RUclips etc.

  • @nefdsnet

    Two Notes are pretty much in a league of their own (Torpedo Studio user myself), so it's nice to see another quality take on this concept. An additional option and some healthy competition is welcome. I don't see the need for a shootout here, as I would expect it to come down purely to personal preference usually found among high end gear comparisons.
    As for using products like the Ox or the Torpedo for Andertons I absolutely get it, dealing with speakers and microphones and the volumes can be exhausting to say the least. I think for an amp demo it's valid to go the extra mile and use the matching cab. For amp shootouts however, a product like this would add rock solid consistency. For guitars and basses just mix it up and use it occasionally as you would with different cabs.

    I'm not really big on the product itself (what can I say..I'm still loving my Kemper), but definitely by far the best product representative presentation I've ever seen.. he was excellent!

We can only take so many pedal demos 😬 yes, you could use this in demos and it would be fine. The OX is pretty expensive IMO.

  • @MattyK-USA

    I love my Torpedo Captor for recording silent :) I'm not really a fan of the tone cry and 'speakers failing', I always prefer higher wattage speakers to get rid of that sound so for me the IR's are perfect ;) This product is very good IMO, but I wouldn't find it way more usable in my situation than my way more affordable and also very great sounding Torpedo+interface situation :) That said, if you're a big fan of the more accurate speaker simulation I would check this one out for sure! Great video guys! Cheers

  • @voxpathfinder15r

    Where this product is cool, is that you can bring a studio mic'd sound to a live gig. You can't use the same mic's live that you can in a studio - live you have to close mic with not much choice of mic, sm57 and that's about it.

  • @minorharmonicscale

    I´ll buy one as soon as they are out :)
    What guys dont think about is what you get inte the price.
    Sure it will be a good attenuator.
    But the money is in the Digital world..
    I dont know many homerecorders that got all these mics, cabs and the most important a big studio recording ROOM.
    Sure you can stick an SM57 at your cab but half the sound is gone. The Room is so so important..you just dont need space but you got to give it an acoustic treatmeant aswell.
    Just to buy a Royer R-121 is 1300$..
    And with Universal audio´s software and modeling history I am pretty sure it will be very accurate to the real thing. even if it´s just 80% of the real thing it´s still worth it. Though I think it´s so close that know one will no the difference..
    And to get all that in one compact box, sure sold me one :)
    Though im satisfied with what im seeing/hearing now, I guess that they will update with mics, cabs, room and/or other features, maybe ability to run wet/dry rigs, blend two cabs together.... who knows..

  • @antonkirczenow2591
    @antonkirczenow2591 7 лет назад

    Well that sounds fantastic. But does it djent? I mean is it OK for high gain stuff like a Peavey 6505 mh? TwoNotes seem to be a bunch of metal heads so live/studio seem great for that genre, is this targeting more blues sounds?
    Also, what is the latency for all the modelling? IIRC the live was 3ms and the Studio was 3-5ms depending on mode. I do find it's always easier to play in time with lower latency.

  • @jgwire

    I have a Vibro-King and I’m almost 100% on getting an OX for it knowing it can be done here, but...
    My question is how is it possible, because as far as I’ve read the OX doesn’t have a 2ohm setting and the VK has a 2ohm speaker box..
    Can someone chime in here and explain how I’m either wrong about the ox’s settings or maybe how it doesn’t matter? (I’m not that savvy with ohm stuff, I play amps but don’t really know much about how they work).
    Cheers!

    I think for amp/cab demos, I would prefer to hear the sound of the actual gear mic'ed up. This piece of kit is certainly impressive, but in a way it does too much to make a "nice" sound, great for recording or live, but lets just hear the gear with minimal processing.
    For effects and guitars, go for it.

    The Two Notes Torpedo Reload is basically exactly the same thing aside from the "Dynamic speaker emulation" thing he was taking about (which I'm not sure is total bull or not). It costs less half as much money, still a lot but not that crazy and comes with so many options, like 25 free cabs and mics as well as like 50 more you can buy from the store at pretty reasonable cost. ON TOP OF THAT you can use any impulse response available from other companies if you prefer, I don't think Universal Audio will let you do that.
    IMHO The Two Notes Reload is just a superior product, in terms of price, size and functionality, rated to 150 watts. Maybe the user interface isn't as "fancy" but it's damn well designed and easier to understand than any I've used anywhere... on par with Positive Grid's interface. If that isn't enough the Reload can do DI into your soundcard, reamping your takes for tweaking, completely silent recording or reactive load attenuation.
    The OX seems like a good product but I think it's just a copy of the Reload for more than twice as much money... More money than is accessible to the regular gear-head whereas a regular guy can afford the Reload and get the same results with MUCH more freedom. I mean they don't let you move the mics at all? and I doubt they'll let you use separate impulses...
    No disrespect to Capt. Anderton or the store.
    Of course this is just my 2 cents...

    • @andertons
      @andertons  7 лет назад +3

      The Two Notes isn’t an attenuator, it’s just a dummy load. And we all thought the speaker emulation on the OX was the best we’d ever heard. However, we do think the Two Notes stuff is excellent too!

    • @PSDmusic
      @PSDmusic 7 лет назад +1

      If you are going to compare the OX to the Two Notes stuff you have to look at the Studio, which cost more than the OX will as far as I know.

    • @STRATOHOLICRichman
      @STRATOHOLICRichman 7 лет назад

      Interesting... but I believe you are mistaken. On the website and in the documentation I received with the product says it's an "active reactive load" circuitry. I've had passive attenuators which are just a series of resistors and this blows them away completely. In my experience with the Reload and after watching the video, these two products are exactly the same in most regards. I believe in American products and mean no harm to this great company but I believe the Reload is the superior product.
      www.two-notes.com/en/torpedo-reload

    • @STRATOHOLICRichman
      @STRATOHOLICRichman 7 лет назад

      Point taken, I do however think that the Reload does the same things as the OX. The studio cannot "attenuate" or load down the output signal of the amp between the power section and speaker cabinet. That's why I used it in comparison.

    • @19Cluj
      @19Cluj 7 лет назад +1

      The Reload doesn't have speaker sim, which is a massive difference. You have to do it within your computer with the WoS plugin (or any other speaker sim plugin). To get closer to the OX, you must add a Torpedo CAB (just speaker sim, headphones out...), and there you're very close to the OX price. The Reload is particularly great for reamping (the OX can't do it apparently), but the Reload + CAB combo doesn't have any digital output (which the OX has). The Torpedo Studio is a great alternative, but more expensive than the OX, with a couple of pros and cons compared to the OX. Honestly, all great units, but don't think we can objectively say one is "far superior" to the others. It's just about what you need.

    I'm fascinated by stuff like this and the two notes stuff, how to avoid dodgy soundmen and their placement choices/lack of any idea and how to achieve consistent tone. Brilliant. However, do they work for clean sounds? These applications are always demoed towards gainy sounds, at low volume. HELP, GOOD PEOPLE :) xx

    "It's so quiet, it's like playing with a 10 watt amp".....LOL! Come over to my house and jam on my 4 watt Vox AC4C1 with an eternity love pedal pushing the front end and tell me how quiet you think it is? Most people can't stand to be in the same room with it.

    • @ryanbarker3978

      Agreed, power level is not a good indication of volume. I have a 50 watt amp that can attenuate all the way down to 7 watts, and even at that setting, anything past 1.5 on the master volume is uncomfortable to be near.
      The bottom line with tube amps is they only sound good when the tubes are loaded/start to break up, which only happens at high volumes. That being said, if you get a low wattage amp (like mine scaled down or yours) and a decent quality reactive load (not passive load), you can bring its signal down to line level pretty easily and play it at a comfortable bedroom level through headphones or monitor speakers.

    Ive seen/heard another review on sweetwater and that strat aloways flubs out on the bottom strings. My problem is that I dont know if its the strat or the OX Box doing that. But its definetly a negative and so is the hum that comes of the strat. I think you would have a much better chance of selling these boxes if you eliminated these negatives. Im probably going to buy one anyway but the first thing Ill be checking is if the low end flubs out and if its inherently noisy. If you are trying to sell something then you want it to sound as good as possible and using that noisy strat with a strange flubby low end is killing your chances. Your playing is very nice though. Im not saying this to be critical. Im saying it because before I purchase one of these, I would like to know what is causeing the noise and flub.

    • @mal2ksc
      @mal2ksc 7 лет назад +4

      That is the difference between an engineering mentality and a sales mentality. Obviously the UA rep knew how to use the product, but he has the "so cool because engineering" mentality, rather than the "so cool, because features" mentality. What works best to make a product is not exactly the same as what works best to sell it. There is some overlap, but for the most part they are two separate skill sets.

    It's an awful lot of money. Three times as expensive as an ''Iron Man reactive load'' for example, although this does do more. A two notes torpedo live is half the price too. As an outsider to silent recording - it seems to hitch on the digital modelling being preferable to impulse response. For the oldies like me, this feels a little bit like ''Betamax'' - technically better, but soon to be redundant tech.

    • @cmdrsocks
      @cmdrsocks 7 лет назад +1

      Expensive, but impressive. Physical modelling is the next step in audio, it is only recently that the DSP power needed to do it in real time has become cheap enough. We will start to see lower cost options from others before long.
      Unfortunately, the reactive load part won't get cheaper any time soon, good quality high power electronics always costs real money.

    • @andertons
      @andertons  7 лет назад +11

      Check out all the specs of the OX please. It is so much more. The iron man will only take a load of 30w! This will take any load.. Also the Torpedo live is not an attenuator... So you will need the Torpedo Reload Reactive-Active Attenuator as well as the Torpedo live as well to do what the OX does.. This means this is not an unreasonable price we think...

    • @wildmilne
      @wildmilne 7 лет назад +1

      I think it’s competitive. Torpedo live is $1000 and it’s cheaper than a torpedo studio right? All out of my price range:)
