Can we get a Peter Thorn radio station? We lock him in his studio, slide food in as needed, and listen to him play all day. :)
Scarlet Fey sweet suggestion 😀👍
Sounds Like The Plot From "Misery"
Sounds like a Great Plan!! Can’t get enough of his “Classic” Tones...
Thats brilliant. In a few years we could clone him. Keep the real Pete out in the world. Im sure he wouldn't be cool with us locking him in the radio station forever. But we shove the clone in there no problem.
For real - Pete Thorn is an amazing writer and player. Captivatingly listenable.
I bought this piece of gear a few years ago when I had my large and small pedalboards (and lots of pedals to sub in and out). Then I got into modelers, dismantled and sold much of my big board, and kind of forgot about the OX.
Fast forward to last week: I had a buyer for the OX. I set it up with my still great smaller board to make sure all was well…and I canceled the sale. It reproduces the pure sound of the amp magnificently.
Great video, Pete. Ty
Pete, of course, clearly knows what he's about, having spent a lot of time on both sides of the glass in a studio. But the thing that drew me into this video is that he just seemed to be having so much fun playing with the Ox. I've been thinking about one for a while. I'm pretty old school good guitar, wire, great old amp, but Pete made the gizmo seem like such unadulterated FUN! That, in and of itself, has just about sold me!
Agreed. To me the Ox can bring out the creativity in a guitar player, make playing and experimenting fun and get those tube amps up to where they are supposed to be for the ultimate tone experience. I will be purchasing one.
12:16 Shine on you crazy Peter :)
Absolutely loved the "Pete Floyd" stuff. ;-) I think that you could easily put this out as a single. I'ld be all over it.
Agree!!!
Definitely nailed that "Sorrow" gilmour vibe
Floyd lick at 12:20. 👍
pete floyd for life omg
I just picked up my OX after seeing this video. I hear people complain of popping/clicks/artifacts when outputting SPDIF....I had this issue and it will happen 100% unless you connect via the App and lower the output levels for each Rig. After the tweak, crystal clear. best purchase in a long time. Great demos Pete, they save money on buying junk....but than that’s offset by all the good stuff.
Excellent point Jason!! Many users don't respect proper gain staging!!
I was on the fence about buying this as I felt it is WAY more than I need and I could save some cash with another attenuator. After watching your video, I ordered the Ox. Well done and really piqued my interest! Thanks. I'll subscribe now to your channel also.
As an early adopter of the OX, thanks for posting this video! Watching how you work with it will help me get more out of the unit. So far, I find the OX to be a great tool which just gets out of my way and gets me back to playing/recording guitars quickly. It pulled me out of the infinite pit of re-amping and I feel like my creativity is flowing again. That said, I like that I can choose to tweak mightily, if I want to. I think UA really nailed this product...it's made for guitar players but recording engineers will like it too.
Stefan Kozlowski totally agree...Bought this the week it came out and it is possibly the best bit of studio guitar kit I’ve ever owned...Cranked amps at a whisper n my little home studio and a plug n play mentality ensures you keep your focus on the energy and creativity of your playing that often gets zapped when dabbling in the digital realm...Amazing bit of kit x
Seriously I ordered mine after seeing this. Looking forward to getting it in my mitts
Roger McCoy how are you liking it so far?
Pete, you have been given unique gifts. You can really explain things very well.
I stay on RUclips probably way too much and so I've seen a few vids, but your vids are top notch. The sound quality is always superb. Thank you and stay good brotha.
bob smith I’ll second that
cosigned. Pete's a ridiculously effective communicator.
Thanks Bob!!!
Maybe one of the best songs you have ever wrote for a demo. Congrats Pete!!!
*written
Thank you!
For me the most comprehensive presentation of the Ox Box so far. Thanks Pete.
Pete Thorn, master of classy tones, love it.
Probably one of the best intro music pieces you've done, which says a lot.
Damn, what a cool jam. It really went very surprising places.
Pete, you really can make beautiful sounds. While I was listening to this, I was thinking back for some reason to the Beatles. Not sure why, but there is something in their sound that speaks of individuals collaborating on songs, and making a composite that retains the individuality of the musicians, yet somehow blends in such an appealing way to the listeners, without effort. This to me is what I hear in the Ox, that combines cab, mic, speaker, room, effects as they blend to their composite whole. The Ox is such a cost effective way for a 'home' studio to get those available combinations into tracks without the weightlifting, not to mention the expense of unattainable for many. This is going to help many creative players to express in their music right at home, who would be limited otherwise. Thanks for the demo, great ideas, and as always, great playing and demonstration, too. Thumbs up.
A full intro track, loads of different sounds, good info, well explaimonstrated! 30 mins well spent 👍
That is one hell of a demo. ❤
That is art!! Just awe inspired playing with killer song writing chops to boot!
The Macmull tones here sound great, but the 335 sound is just sick!
I just have to say! Pete, All your videos are so good. You explain in detail everything.
Peter...super video and superb playing. Love the song in the intro. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am sold on the Ox...will definitely purchase one. Cool studio too. Gave me some ideas on how to set up mine.
That Macmull is my dream guitar. Unexpectedly taking on the responsibility of being a single dad has kept me from owning a good guitar..... someday......
Put the kid out selling hot chestnuts or sweeping chimneys - have the dosh in no time!
Sold. I'm getting one. Seems like a good thing to use if you don't have an amazing place to record
Finally found a vid that helps me 'get' the OX. The amount of time you put into these vids is most appreciated, and your explanation breaking down the tracks really helpful! Thanks so much. Looks like a useful one for the studio - the app interface looks 'elegant' as you said. 👍
Dude u are amazing...the Ox is fantastic and we also have a Boss Waza tube expander
and we are so glad we can record or Marshall vintage amps cranked.
Clients come into studio and can dial in the tone without goin deaf and without
spending a lot of time changing cabs etc.
Great job as always brother
God bless
Hey Riff, which do you prefer, OX or TAE?
Just picked up my Ox Box. Can’t wait to go thru these sounds 🎉
this thing sounds unbelievable... great job showcasing it Pete!
That 30 minutes went by fast! Great review! Would love to see part 2 where you use the OX as a Di and play through some IR's for comparison.
I just bought the OX to mainly play my Mesa Boogies at home and this was the best video on explaining the OX so far. Thank you for all the hard work putting this together. Great video!!!
Hi Pete, great review and I’ve said this before but it’s so great to hear chords played as I hear the difference between the different speaker cabs etc even on my iPad and that is saying something! I never feel I truly hear the sound if it’s all soloing and I can’t access my base sound in my head from which I can judge sounds etc. So great work, thanks. 🤘🏻🎸👍🤘🏻🎸👍🤘🏻🎸👍
The room sound on this thing is incredible. Anderton's started using them too, and suddenly their rigs sound noticeably better.
Pete thorn Ox vid is 30 minutes and he says long.
Hp42 does longer unboxing vids lmfao.
Great vid as always Pete, outstanding playing and review here.
Thank you.
When listening to this demo I'm reminded of Jack Black talking about Rush: "They never ran out of rocket sauce". You just keep coming up with cool melodies.
Pete - Wow as usual you make everything sing. Loving all your new music too.
Pete Thorn you are one damn fine guitar player and composer/writer. Thanks for sharing yourself with us.
In the first 3 minutes of this video, the man showcased a wealth of talent which can only be cultured from years of axe weilding experience. He went from country twang to surfy trash and then into cosmic territory with some spaced out fuzz tones. By the end of that, I didn't really care what came next.
I'm sure this OX is a genuine beast, but I find I don't get better tones at high volumes with my amp. It just makes it more difficult to manage. I play just load enough to be heard only a foot or two away from an iso-cab. No complaints from the neighbors so far. The tone is all a matter of gain control and pushing the amp with an array of stomp boxes I was excruciatingly pedantic in selecting. Each one is an integral component to my unique tone print.
All that said, I'm not a stranger to the needs this device addresses and am confident the persons who developed it addressed those needs to the best of their abilities. And I say that having STILL only seen the first 3 minutes of this video. Your playing inspired a movement and that OX inspired me to yak.
I will now recluse back into the dank dark corners of reckless abandon, where my pointless meandering is also an essential component of my tone print, even though it's pulled entirely out of the mix on every recording.
Exquisite! Does it really matter what Peter plays through or whether there's a touch more or less room mic or speaker breakup? I think the subtle tone changes are much more important to the artist than the listener. He sounds incredible regardless of tweaks.
Pete, please put vocals on this track, you need to get a band and go on tour. Fantastic!
This thing is really tempting! Does a lot of thing, apparently does them well.
great video Pete, thank you for taking the time to demo this so thoroughly!
Great video and for me on the eternal hunt for that special sound connection, this peek into the ox's internal alchemy really hit the spot. As always, your playing is excellent, deft and nuanced- a storytellers playing style. This video finally stilled my wavering mind. I own a UA Octo satellite and their plugins are superb. I wouldn't expect a company with such a great track record,(pun) to scrimp on R & D for the Ox. That they include some great 'in-the-box' processing is an embellishment worthy of the Gods. The Torpedo Captor X from Two Note was in the frame for some time and like a moth I was attracted to the price point and the plaudits. In the end though it came down to 'atoms of goodness' and those are really the essence of 'realness' in sounds. I worked the comparisons forensically on RUclips and in the end the Jury whispered 'Ox' gently in my ears. Their is just some magic to the sound which gets you connected. Sure, we could all do with re-allocating the hunk of money extra that the Ox costs above that of the Two Note offering, to spend the money on other kit- very appealing!, but in the end it's those extra atoms that make the wind blow and the sun shine. If that means I work better and longer at my songwriting then maybe, just maybe. .I might fashion a new inscription for my headstone. Ox rocks and for that matter, so does Pete Thorn!
Man, you always explain the magic so well!
Thank you Pete. You certainly do a great job supporting our community. Super job her as always.
David Hopkins
Never heard a Silvertone sound so good... you are a fantastic player
Superb playing! The Ox box looks pretty tempting.
Imagine the amount of time the R & D folks put into this at Universal Audio not to mention you Pete. Thanks very much for a great and thorough review
+deca006 👍👍
When you started talking i thought... i just have to go over that intro again!! And that´s what i did ;)
That Macmull is unbelievably great sounding!!
Sensei of Tone! I am learning about getting better tone on my amp from watching this video! The Ox is really an amazing piece of gear for studio and noiseless stages. Thanks for sharing!
Great demo Pete! Really weighing this vs Suhr Reactive load/Celestion IR's. So many really good choices becoming available these days!
One of the tastiest guitarists around!! Your stuff truly is music, man.
Gilmour rang. He wants his mojo back Pete! Great sounding demo.
Just got mine, haven't had time to plug it in yet, been watching every video I can find on it, yours is by far the best Pete, nice job man, thanks !!!
I just forget about the ox box. That performance was amazing!
Kept seeing the OX pop up all over. After watching this video finally, I ordered one immediately! Thanks for the great videos Pete!!
That track at the beginning is by far one of my favorites you’ve done for a demo.
very impressive song. you probably should release this tune. your a very talented musician. thanx for all your videos and your sunday thing. LATER
Great video as usual. Especially the end where you make your sound. Helped to understand the process and quality of the effects too
What a time to be alive. My only regret is I can only like this video once! Terrific work again, Mr. Thorn! It's certainly not a cheap piece of gear, but eventually these things will come down in price when the next big thing hits.
After much delay & countless RUclips demos of reactive load boxes & speaker attenuators ... I came to the conclusion that THIS is the one ... So I got one, y'all get ya one too!
Definitely one of my favorite Pete Thorn demo tracks. Seems like the OX was inspiring Pete to try a bit of a different direction. Loved it. Thanks for doing this demo with only effects from the OX instead of added pedals as it was nice to see the tones the OX effects can provide - and they are impressive.
Dug I’m a guitar player but I must confess. Whenever I hear a band playing the bass is what I hear the most. I have about 65% hearing loss now so the bass really stands out to me. Pete hits so high that it makes me involuntarily chase & bite the mailman!Grrrrr 😂
Dug you sound great my friend and I would really like to try the db3X you made it look and sound very interesting 🤨
Thanks for turning me on to the helix. Love those Dave Friedman amps in that unit.
Would be good to hear a comparaison of your PT100 with your regular Suhr Load Box and IRs and the OX set-up.
I love your reviews and your music, very creative and beautiful
Beautiful piece of music, Pete. Inspiring, Thanks for creating it.
Well...ya sold me, pal! Absolutely awesome video. But what else is new? You've sold me on more than this unit, in the past. It will be interesting to see how many of the pedals on my board become unnecessary and displaced by the OX effects. Thanks again, Pete. Great stuff!
All of Pete's RUclips demos are really well crafted. You could put them altogether and they would make a great album. If the Ox wasn't 5x as expensive as my amp, I would get one in a shot. Hmmm, still contemplating it.
Amazing! just so freaking amazing.
Love the idea of a product like this so much, just wish it wasn't as expensive as buying an amp. Gotta start saving.
Great review Pete! I really enjoy your reviews and inspired by your advice.
Fantastic demo. I wish they would have a 2 ohm option on it but then again I don’t have a practical use for this gear, just want it because it seems really, really sweet and easy to use.
Very complete, in depth video Pete. Inspiring playing too. Thank you.
Nice slide work. Good to see some new axes as well. Very Rich Robinson sounding intro. Cool
Exceptional and soulfully beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
+Tom K thanks Tom!
and UA will now need to ramp up production :-) Also ... that slide playing and tone Pete - just awesome
That's phenomenal......huge potential!
Fab demo!!! Amazing vibes!
Your studio makes mine look like a Vtech my first studio kit. Great vid and i hope to get my kit somewhere near yours one day!
Thank you for the demo (insane amount of work!). It’s a real shame this baby isn’t practical for live as I’m sure front of house would love it. But it needs midi preset control (foot switch/sequencer) as a minimum and an iec plug/internal power so it’s more practical - we’ve all been there with bricks and wallwarts on tour, not the greatest! Thanks again for all your hard work.
That first bit had a wonderful mash up of you, Zep (Traveling Riverside Blues) and Blue Rodeo.
Those Floyd like tones are great!
Another exceptional video from Mr. Thorn. Great tones, great playing and very well demonstrated. Makes me want an OX even more.
Where are all the smart a** people who complained about the price? This one on the coolest load boxes on the market right now. It also sounds bloody fantastic. It's next direct competitor the Torpedo Live is not that much cheaper I would say. Load boxes are the saving grace of the home recordist. Also amazing demo by the one and only Pete Thorns.
I really like the tunes you write for demos.
Man, your walkthrough videos are just the best! Thank you.
Very inspired song Pete. Brilliant!
Great demo.. What I like is that you can hear (better) the players attack..
Nice job on this demo +Pete Thorn! Sounded great...
Really good review!! Must see for all who looking after the US OX!
Great stuff Pete. I watched the whole thing twice just to check out your playing as well as your tones. So cool. Well done.
Ooooh is that a Butterslax in the back? Sweet!
Great video Pete, beautiful guitar intro. Ox is great & James Santiago & the team have done a tremendous job with everything in the Ox, & the foot switch is not too far away either.
Thanks Pete, you answered the questions I had re the technology. btw, the ability to do this is a strong part of your demo skillset. It's not easy. Then there's a the personable part. A twofer...
I've recently discovered Pete's videos but consider me a fan. You do a fantastic job with your videos.
Super cool demo! Deep musical goodness going on.
absolutely amazing tones here !
I like your review vids and tonight I checked out some of your works on Amazon Music. Nice job. I really dig Dirty Town and Revenge of the Nerd. I like your style. Keep on rockin brother!
A couple points I would like to make (just a personal opinion) .... a) that Gibson .. to me, those things have to sound "right", and you captured it "OH SO RIGHT" .... The ambience, normally doesn't do a WHOLE lot for me musically, but again, you pulled that off in SPADES. Awesome vibe and feel. I definitely give 2+ thumbs up on the tune, and spectacular job in the explanation ... thank you, now I want one! HAHAH
What a fantastic track!
