    Really smart how you used the digital interface as an output…… then took the analogue outs and fed them to the inputs and back into the DAW…… very creative!

    I have the 476 and I love it. One nice touch that I really like is that it has a dedicated power switch, so I don't have to disconnect the USB cable to keep it from being powered on 24/7.

      @meldmagic 2 года назад

      🧙🏻‍♂ I have had an Octa-Capture since 2011 & I never power it down. It's still going. Turning units on/off frequently actually creates spikes that stress sensitive components more. The 476 is a wise choice though as the external power supply will give more reliable phantom power.

    Glen, just want to say thank you for giving such informative, actionable, and realistic examples of gear and equipment. It's obvious you really are passionate about this industry and that you take alot of pride in what you do. For all of us gearheads (regardless of experience), it's really helpful to see how methodical your approach is from intro, explaining, demonstrating, and real-use application for so much of the recording process. Thank you a million!

    Nice! I've owned the Volt 276 for a few months and what amazed me was how smooth the setup was. I'm the type of person that always seems to run into technical difficulties and was expecting to have to do a bunch of troubleshooting but I remember breathing a sigh of relief when everything worked immediately and I was off and running. I'm super impressed with Volt and it was awesome getting to see you demo it's features.

      Just a pity that they don't try to make it class compliant so they can force you to register to download the drivers. Makes it unsuitable for Linux and android for example.
      Without that and the lack of adat I would insta buy this, it's a nice interface for a musician (not sure if its features are useful for a real recording nerd).

    Just got the volt 276 for Christmas and begun the whole home recording thing. I mic'd my cab (powered by a 5150 because I love metal core) with a Shure SM57 and started stumbling my way through GarageBand as a starting point. So far the UA Volt 276 is extremely easy to use! Thanks to your vids I have been able start this whole process! Stay Metal!!

    I’ve been using this volt 276 interface as my main interface, in aggregate with my axe/io as an interface for guitar instruments.
    I have to say that I don’t really enjoy the compressors because they just don’t give me any control over the compression like I get from the plugins that I have. It’s too much of a black box, and I’m just not able to get much of anything good out of built in compressor buttons but ymmv.
    I also haven’t found much use in the vintage button, and I try it every once in a while but never end up using it for anything.
    Other than that it’s a nice little unit. It does the job and doesn’t get in the way, and it doesn’t seem to have any problems with my MacBook Pro.

    I own the Volt 276. I bought it for my podcast/streaming setup but I have ended up using it on nearly everything. There's phantom power for tube mics & the compressors(algos) built in are incredible for vocals(I use a Shure SM-7B for podcasting/streaming). I don't normally use them on guitar. At $299 it's a bit pricier than other interfaces but the UA quality & suite of software that came with mine is worth the bit extra. I highly recommend the Volt 276👍👍

  • @rome8180

    I have the Volt 476 and am enjoying it. I got it because it has extra line inputs and outputs on the back. That allows me to run my tracks into some outboard gear after recording.
    I use the built-in compressor for my podcasts. Ironically, I don't find the "vocals" setting works best. I actually like the "guitar" setting.
    Beyond all that usefulness, I just love the look of the unit. Is it so bad to be shallow? If I have pretty gear, that makes me want to be in my studio more, which makes me work on more music.

    After dealing with a warranty and a couple of service request ass-aches dealing with UA, I can honestly say I will never spend another red cent with this POS company. I had purchased an OX a few years ago that was not even 4 months old that was having intermittently having WiFi connectivity issues, an LA2A that needed tubes and an 1176 for a recalibration that I was more than willing to pay out of pocket including all shipping. Got the run around and a fuck ton of back and forth emails to no avail. Absolutely ridiculous. I’m glad I stuck with my Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt. Owned it since 2015 and it’s still rock solid. I love the videos though and can appreciate you taking the time to make them.👍🏻

    Fun fact...I know there are very few people who care about this, but the 176 and 276 actually work out of the box with Linux - yay for interface manufacturers actually paying attention to standards compliance! Also, I remember the old days of Firewire, and the TC Impact Twin which had an _awesome_ single-knob compressor with built-in presets for male/female vocals etc. Loved that thing...even used it as a compressor and preamp when Firewire went the way of the dodo.

    • @Bob-of-Zoid
      @Bob-of-Zoid 2 года назад

      I do big time! I have barraged Glenn about it more than once! On the other hand though I think it safe to say, that although it works, all of the software and remote control (if any) is made for Windows and Mac's only, sometimes Android and although one can easily live without, it's not just free software, as there's always a cost involved to the maker that is included in the price meaning as all to often the case with so much hardware, we get to pay for something we cannot even use. Same problem when for some odd reason they make something dependent on a specific browser, and browsers are resource hogs because they have to "do it all" and are more like OS's sans driver control. The sheer idea of doing it in such a roundabout way, is ludicrous, unless there is a hidden agenda like tracking your every move, and what not!
      At minimum with all of those devices where you have no other option but to control certain features via the computer it would be great if they released a list of codes needed to do so, and it can be done without open sourcing the "Secret sauce", as it literally requires no more than a few simple commands like Up and Down in their language equals whatever you use in your language, and the number of increments there are for each, to control things, so literally just a text file as an interpreter of simple commands between their controls on the device and your software to control it.
      Knowing the triggers doesn't require access to all the underlying programming. It may even make sense if they did the same for themselves, so that they can reuse code more easily and have a standard for their whole line of hardware.
      I looked around for a while to end up with the Behringer UMC204HD which uses the standards, just as the new model came out no longer adhering to them! ASSHOLES!! I mean really are they that stupid or just plain mean!

    Interesting! Like the way it sounds. Just looked into Volt 4 and it's only $230 USD! It's Heavy on my mind.

    This is a great interface, and I bought it after seeing this video. Easy to use, sounds great. Tempting to throw a preamp, or compression on everything but don't!! listen back before you commit to more takes. I like vocal compressor with no preamp for vocals. Guitar compressor works well on guitars, the preamp won't be needed if you have let's say.....a 1950's Gibson J50, but if you have a new Takamine go for it. Bass.. I am still figuring out, but I have made a few bass tracks that seem too muddy using compression and the preamp so leave some highs on your tone knob if you normally don't you can take them out later. Just my two cents.Trying drums this weekend. Again thanks for the video veryy happy with my purchase.

    The cheapest option for recording guitar is actually a Rocksmith cable ironically, but it's very limited in what it provides. However, if you can't afford anything else, it works.

    I wouldn’t recommend this from my own experience. Had the Volt 476 which would record all sorts of clicks, pops and random noises over everything. Wracked my brains for a few months adjusting buffer settings, changing cables etc etc, but eventually had to send it back to them. After 6 weeks without it they called me to say they can’t fix it, and won’t replace it. Nice one! Bought the EVO8 in the end, problems solved!

    Anyone remember the “Reel to Reel and a 8 channel non digital mixer ? Moving
    Drum kits to the bottom of a of a 4 -6 floor building for reverb and depth. It wasn’t nearly as sterile.

    Universal Audio , has always made great stuff! Wow
    ..that drum track was dry and the ambient sound it gave it awesome for the size! is really touchy ! Plenty of Gain! The Guitar sounds awesome 👍 I had a Compressor and I never had any other that would touch it! Price was high, but a great Comp. I still think it's going..I sold it to a engineer friend like at least 15 years ago . Reminds me of the 610mk2 but smaller twinfinity D Box is another Ive had but that was not so long ago...I'm a old school dinosaur lol they have been around for a while Good stuff 👍

    This thing looks like it's delivering the goods. Do you think it would work in a live context to compress vocals for that nice tone and protecting the spikes? Basically run vocals in, then out to the mixing board and then out to FOH speakers? Would it be worth it. You can get the full 4 Channel version of this for 1/5th the price of an 1176 rack unit. With that you could run a pair of vocal inputs and even stick the snare mic on it as well.

    I was hoping for a discussion on any latency from the time you hit the string to hearing it from the DAW. Any noticeable lapse?

    I can see why you said it destroys the competition. That's a lot of quality gear for 409 bucks! The comp really brought that acoustic to life. This alone could take your hotel room demos to a new level lol.

    Hey Glenn great video! I would like to see a video on the new Audient interfaces. Seeing a comparison between the Audient and the UA would be an awesome video. I’m sure I am not the only one who is torn between which one of the two to get.

    Holy shite, now I'm moving from Volt 276 to an SSL 12 (I'm ab to start using ADAT, talk back and need more monitor outputs so the move made sense) - I was going to sell my Volt but after seeing how you used it as an outboard compressor NO WAY I'm selling it. The cheapest 1176 comp you can get here is a H&K clone for £200 and thats just mono. I've already got a stereo one without needing to spend a penny!!
