Cory, I founded and directed two recoring schools for 25 years and recruited/mentored many faculty from the ranks of music makers. IMO you are a fantastic educator. Why? Because you’re totally into it, and your excitement about our art/craft is infectious. I own and make recordings on an Apollo 16, 8P and Twin. You make me want to dive into this new box. Thank you for doing what you do.
I'm an absolute noob to recording, this stuff was always out of my price range. But I always wanted to write some songs with my drummer friend who is quite knowledgeable with audio engineering. He had an Apollo mkii I believe but now he has an audient interface and he recommended the volt 1 for me to get started. Thanks for the tutorial
I love my Volt 476P. It upped my input tone 10 fold from my previous cheap 1 input interface. Thank you for explaining the different features and convincing me to look at the free plugins included.
My wife surprised me with a Volt 276 for Christmas, so even more appreciated your video and learned nice elements that will totally help me when I record my many compositions this year. Thanx.
Just ordered my UA Volt 276! This is my first go around with recording guitar into an interface. Super excited and thanks for the video! Been testing out the tone king plugin and it’s great.
Awesome demo of the compressor on vocals, sounds really good. And the arrangement you constructed with that song is awesome, I learned a lot! More of that please!!
It is not only aimed for new people brother. It is the best interface at that price point. Many experience producer are excited as well. I am getting mine in a few days!
I actually just picked the volt 276 today. I've been investing a lot of money into my live gear, amp, pedals, etc. This was a musical need that I've so desperately wanted to buy for awhile, a decent quality audio interface that wouldn't break my bank. Despite the fact that I've been playing guitar for over 20 years, I am only now getting into recording my music. Cheers for the video review mate, I'm satisfied with this purchase and over the last few hours I have been testing this thing out and trying out all this software. As someone who's used modelling amps in the past I honestly cant believe how far the software has come, though its not the same, its damn close to playing the real thing.
Fantastic video Corey! I haven't come across any other video that was so easy to follow targeted to a recording noob like myself that demoes the basics of the audio recording process using so many live instruments -- mic'd: acoustic guitar and direct: two electric guitars and bass guitar, as well as vocals on top of a virtual drum track. It didn't hurt that you used the Volt 276 audio interface which is the centerpiece of the basic audio recording system I assembled but don't plan on purchasing until I progress much further with my guitar education (I'm at a basic intermediate level) and have more time to devote to the audio recording process. Thank you. Very practical and educational!
Great stuff, Corey! I'm still waiting on my 476 to arrive, bought it about a month ago. From what I've seen here I'm gonna be happy! Thanks from astonishingly wet, windy and still sorta weirdly not back to normal Ireland! ☘️☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
My idea of recording was to put in a cassette and press record. Its a bitch being old, truly fascinating but if he was speaking mandarin i would probably understand about the same with all new tech stuff. Am light years behind but happy to play my acoustic just straight up. Enjoyed the video mind. Thanks a lot.
Excellent demo! I’m sold. I own an Apollo twin at home but I’ll be using the volt with a laptop for my travel rig so I can write on the road. What a cool time to be a recording musician.
Yo CC! That’s music line in the Hook is absolutely Krazy!!! Love it, almost made me start penning something to it. Great vid, I’m waiting to receive my 176 Volt.
Great demo on this unit ! I just picked this volt up and it’s great! You didn’t get into the monitoring button (right side on top panel). Usually with that button off you won’t hear what you’re plugging in. It turns red and blue depending on if you want monitor in stereo or mono. Ask another great feature of this volt.
Great review brother. I’m recording 15k in guitars, amps, pedals, and cabs into a $140 Presonus Studio 26c for the last year or so. Figured I would upgrade to this for now and eventually the Apollo or something. Cheers

I currently use the Mackie Onyx Producer 2/2. The Mackie has a Mix knob which I love. I guess this Volt 276 does not have a Mix knob. Crazy question. How do you balance the volume of the playback track with the track you are recording. Great video and great playing now.

Thx much for the tutorial. As an old dude but a neophyte insofar as using any recording devise is concerned, I’d appreciate if you or the community could direct me to a source that could instruct me on how to hook the volt up to my iPad using a guitar and mic. I wish I’d learned this stuff (recording/amps and the like) at an earlier age but my choice is either to start where I’m at or not trying at all; I prefer the former. As an aside, I’m paraplegic so if anyone knows of a devise that would enable me to record loops just using hands (or vocals) I’m all ears. With the advent of Siri and Alexa voice activation devises, I wish there was such a thing for loopers,, pedals and the like. Maybe someday for folks younger than me. Grins.
Great tutorial! You make recording look easy and sound great. Thanks for sharing this. I'm the diehard Tascam guy diving in and about to set up my first time DAW now. I have the 276 and plan to record each track part live. Any suggestions on a DAW software for a musician/songwriter not familiar yet with computer recording?

After years of having access to a local studio where I kind of let my home set-up slide, I really need to rebuild a home rig - primarily for writing demoing and guitar overdubs. Just trying to work out whether I dive in with the Volt series or save up a bit more for an Apollo series interface.
@@coreycongilio Cheers mate, I appreciate the offer. I had a listen to a friend's OX the other day with one of my amps and quite frankly I was blown away even going in with high expectations so that will be a centerpiece alongside the interface I choose.
Great vid. V helpful. I wonder if the audio quality would compare to my old Apogee Duet FW? I’m thinking of upgrading atm. Also do the plugins work in logic X or are they just inside the UA app? Lastly, presumably the onboard DSP in the Volt is recorded, so that it cannot be edited after its recorded? Thanks.
Something nobody really covers in videos. If I played the exact same thing using this bolt compared to an Apollo unit over 1,000 dollars, would you by ear be able to hear a difference in quality of sound?
Is Volt compatibile with Studio One 6? I try to record locals, but encounter a lot of latency... Not sure how to lower it and get real time transmission from Voice to Mic... Should I use Volt with MPC Ableton instead? I have the 276
Sounds great. I'm trying to decide between volt 286 , moti m4 and ssl2 +. I'm looking to record some jam tracks nothing serious. Would love to be able to use plugins in real time. If possible which of those 3 would be better for a guitar setup
Did you experience much latency when recording electric guitar with the Softube Marshall Plexi Classic Amp plugin since it is running on your computer instead of on the interface like a UA Apollo? If you did maybe the latency did not matter at the temp of your demo song, but have you experienced it when playing faster riffs or solos? .... Thanks
Unlike the Apollo, the Volt's plugins are not processed inside the box, right? So you might have a certain latency when playing the amp simulations, because they go all the way in and out your computer before reaching your ear.
Hey mate, just a question - are the vintage / compression modes active on the line-in's on the back of the volt 476? That's what I'll be using mostly, I'll be plugging in my MPC.
Hi Corey, great video! Thanks a lot. Question: can I use this UA Volt to run a mp3 backing track on one of the tracks? I want to use it as a ‘practice tool’ to record my own guitar over a backing track and than listen back and hear what I can improve.
Thanks Corey for you amazing job! I have a question about the plug ins registration. Are the plugins "attached" to the volt 276, or to the computer? I mean : if i buy this volt 276 and i use my computer with the plugins, can i use it with the plugins on another computer? Thanks a lot
Thx! They’re not attached to the volt as far as I know. I think once you register, they’re yours. You would just have to use your same login when installing. I don’t know if the licenses are able to be used on more than one computer. Some companies have limits on how many activations you can use at once
I’m biased because I’ve been a UA guy for years. UA has been the choice of many pros for years and I can tell you that they put A lot of RnD into their designs. Volts are a great value
nice vid. I got the volt 1 and i wonder if i can record a guitar and then send the signal to guitar pedals and record it again. if someone knows how to please let me know.
Thanks Corey. I've been looking at the Volt 276 for a couple of weeks. Would you choose the 276 when the sound quality really matters? Or stick with the Apollo?
For the price of the 276, the sound quality is REALLY tough to beat. I was totally happy with it. An Apollo gets you into the UA world of plugins etc but, honestly so much could be done with this simple box. And, Apollos are A LOT more expensive. They wanted to make sure sound quality was the most important thing from this line. You can always use 3rd party plugins that come with your DAW. At under $300, it's a pretty great value.
@@coreycongilio thanks! I'm learned about the Volt right before almost buying the Solo. Info about the Volt has been trickling out so it is nice to see a video likes yours. I'll get it mostly to record vocals. With a decent microphone it should be good enough. And like you show in your video it is great for creating demos too. :)
Oh cool. I think the Volt is a great option for what you need. Good luck and if you decide to purchase, feel free to use one of my links. It helps the channel a bit. Appreciate it!
Question: I've got the Volt 176 and rotating the monitor knob on top doesn't seem to lower or increase my mic monitoring levels. Isn't it supposed to do just that?
The monitor knob should lower the volume of your external monitors that you connect. I’d jump on the Ua forum on Facebook or email they’re support of that doesn’t help
Can I connect my Sony camera to this volt interface for my audio to be in sync for my RUclips videos editing in post? Using this interface for Talking Heads videos not music
It’s tough to beat UAs quality. I haven’t tried the Clarett specifically but, I imagine they are similar in sound. The onboard compressor in the Volt may push me closer to it however. I’m a lifelong Ua fan so, I’m biased. Do your homework but, the UA world is a fun one to be in!
Hello ! How does the input lancy of VOLT feel when playing electric guitar - is it worse than in apollo or the real amp or you did't experienced those inconviniances ? (maybe it is playable enough even for fast passages, but it would be better if it was a little lower)).
Would the sound quality of this be better on the Apollo x4, or would this have sounded the same on the Volt? People are telling me to get the Apollo series because it has more headroom and is geared more to professionals and the Volt is for people who are just starting, though it sounds professional to me. I don’t know what interface to get, I have the Apogee, but it’s not going to be compatible with my MacBook M1 Max. Thanks.
The quality will be similar in the digital realm but, the benefit of Apollo’s is that the conversion is better and you get to use their Plugins, Unison technology and Luna. Apollo’s are the UA flagship but, Volts are great for plenty of applications
Yes, quite a big difference. The Solo is a part of the Apollo family which is thunderbolt and allows for UA plug-in use. The Volt is USB. Both sound good but, Apollo’s offer deeper function in the Universal Audio world. Volt has great sound quality and is great for the money in my opinion
@@coreycongilio thank you for your reply! I have an option to either go with new macbook 2021 and get the Volt or buy a 2020 macbook and get the Apollo Solo. Still can't decide which one is better haha Do I have to buy more UAD plug ins to make the Solo reach its full potential or the ones they include should be more than enough to start with?

Does the Volt include daw software I have a PC
Can I connect my Sony camera to this volt interface for my audio to be in sync for my RUclips videos editing in post?
Using this interface for Talking Heads videos not music
Not to my knowledge
@@coreycongilio thank you!
What do you think about the sound through the monitors? How good is the sound for mixing?
Totally usable because the source is good. I was surprised at how good the bass and vocal sounded especially
I just bought a volt 276. Can that software package be used through logic?
I imagine it could.
Would you recommend the Volt 276 or the new Clarett+ 2pre for overall quality and sound?
It’s tough to beat UAs quality. I haven’t tried the Clarett specifically but, I imagine they are similar in sound. The onboard compressor in the Volt may push me closer to it however. I’m a lifelong Ua fan so, I’m biased. Do your homework but, the UA world is a fun one to be in!
Hello ! How does the input lancy of VOLT feel when playing electric guitar - is it worse than in apollo or the real amp or you did't experienced those inconviniances ? (maybe it is playable enough even for fast passages, but it would be better if it was a little lower)).
I wasn’t bothered by latency much at all. I worked around it in PT. I don’t experience latency at all with Apollo. Using Luna makes it super seemless.
@@coreycongilio Thank you very much.
Is there a lot of difference between this one and Apollo Solo in terms of preamp quality for guitar recording?
Yes, quite a big difference. The Solo is a part of the Apollo family which is thunderbolt and allows for UA plug-in use. The Volt is USB. Both sound good but, Apollo’s offer deeper function in the Universal Audio world. Volt has great sound quality and is great for the money in my opinion
@@coreycongilio thank you for your reply! I have an option to either go with new macbook 2021 and get the Volt or buy a 2020 macbook and get the Apollo Solo. Still can't decide which one is better haha
Do I have to buy more UAD plug ins to make the Solo reach its full potential or the ones they include should be more than enough to start with?
Does it have loopback?
Loopback is not included
Are they selling this with Neve 1073, Manley Voxbox and Avalon?
No UA branded plugs come with the Volt series. Only 3rd party plugins
@@coreycongilio What a bummer. I was longing to have those plugins. Thanks!
Hey did anyone else have the issue where none of the software came up to download after registering ?
You may want to reach out to UA cust support
How does the 276 stack up against the Audient Id14 Mkii??
I haven't tried the Audient but, the Volt seems to have a bit more onboard features
@@coreycongilio thanks for replying Corey!
How is it for mixing or mastering
Fine for mixing but, I personally use a professional mastering engineer for projects.
