Universal Audio VOLT 276 Interface Review / Explained (vs. UA610 Tube Pre)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 11 июл 2024
- Today I walkthrough, explain, test and review the Volt 276 and discuss when you might want the Volt 2 over the Volt 276. I also compare vintage mode to the LA610 tube preamp and compare it to the Audient ID14 and SSL2+. This thing offers a 55dB gain range, an EIN of -127dBa, sufficiently powered headphone amp, direct monitoring, midi I/O, and that vintage mode & 76 style compressor

If UAD does nothing else, they should make sure they never get rid of their design team. The aesthetics of their units always look so effing good.
This is probably the most underrated channel of this type. I’ve based my purchases on interfaces and microphones simply on watching, listening and recommendations of this channel! Thank you for your efforts.
That's very kind of you to say. Thank you very much for watching.
Hey Bandrew, awesome stuff as always, thanks for your work!
It's wonderful to have people like you to rely on for accurate and comprehensive info on gear!
Also, thanks for including the info on where something was made.
Awesome review, thanks for dropping it
Was really interested in comparison of this one to my SSL 2+ and you’ve delivered
So happy you dropped this one. The wait was excruciating 😅 Great stuff as always. Cheers
Been waiting for your take on the new UA gear. Thanks and well done review!
I just got today my volt 276 and I couldn't be happier, thanks for doing what you do
Enjoy it Glad you are happy with it so far. Best of luck on the recordings.
I was in the launch commercial for this, super exciting little interface!
Loved the intro and the reverse box throw. Keep up the goofiness!
5:51 pff mode activated! Great video btw! Very timely too. I was super curious about this interface when I read about it this morning.
Your videos are awesome dude...appreciate it! You just helped me make quite the informed decision!
Man, these things are getting really good.
Great in-depth video. Very nice of you the reference to Julian's comparison video. Your both channels complement each other very well.
Thumbs up!
PS. Please do a video about Black Lion' Audio's Revolution 2x2. Thanks!
Thank you again for all you do. Always helpful !
It’s so cool that the volt has an auto gain adjust headphone knob. Shown at 2:44. lol!!! Love your reviews dude!!!
Oh yeah, my guy! So glad you’ve got a review for this…
Wow that was a good review and yes, we are living in fantastic sonic choice days!
That intro though 😄. Well done Bandrew
Honestly - your efforts are absolutely not wasted, but I think you know that. These are real world comparisons, and though they are done over video one can still hear the differences. I used your comparisons to buy a mic for my stepdaughter who is currently attending the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. As untrained as I am, I still was able to get a huge amount out of your comparisons - enough to make a decision. Thanks. She has a very solid voice with good low end. I went with the TLM49 (vs 103) and for versatility the UA710 as she is also an instrumentalist and has a few other mics like the 102 for that. We'll see. I think it is a solid platform for now.
Thank you very much for the kind words Robert. That really means a lot. And for those who want a higher quality version of the review, I uploaded audio versions to my site so they can be listened to there. Also, I wish your stepdaughter the best of luck at school!
Can you start doing a mic test in all your videos with reversed speech? I NEED to know how all microphones sound when you speak into them backwards. Might as well redo all your reviews. Get to it.
I loved the extra stuff, like the intro.
The quality of your reviews is staggering
I had totally interpreted this as “faltering”, as in getting worse. Haha. I now understand. Thank you very much.
You do the best reviews
I just got mine1 month ago and i have no complaints! i really love my Volt 276, probably it doesnt have the ''best specs'' but has a pretty beautiful color in the preamps and i couldnt be more satisfied! i had the Motu M2 and i prefer my volt 276!
How do you feel the latency compares?
@@seanedwards94 i see no problems with latency
I usually record with some live effects with 128 samples and everything works correct.
It also depends in your PC though... Mine has i5 7th gen and 16 gb of ram.
This preamp so good ?
How about VOLT 1 ?
Bandrew said that 2022 was going to get weird, and he delivered. I’m loving the Twin Peaks references.
comparisons at 12:55 and forth are priceless, thanks
Your comparison of the volt vintage mode to analog gear was quite useful.
I have to try and do something to offer an ounce of value compared to Julian’s reviews. Haha.
Agree! I'm glad that comparison is there!
@@Podcastage I always watch both "Julian Krauss" and "Podcastage" talking about the same products -they complement each other in a great way
I was looking at these and I was wondering why you hadn't done a review on the 276 yet! Next day, you release it.
I just ordered the 2x2 model. Definitely excited for it.
Great review THANKS!!!
Alright that is one aesthetically pleasing interface
recently got an analog voice channel and i'm kind of glad I didn't see this video first. I'd be plenty happy if I went with something like this just for the compressor but there's just something about the modularity of an analog channel strip that really makes the audio sound worth it.
Oh this thing looks and sounds amazing!
Yeah it's a really nice device! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
Great review.
Can't wait till you review the Behringer UV1.
Bandrew Lynch! Great Intro.
I can not believe!!
Didn't how will fit all together but after this video l am more than sure-I am just changing my home studio exactly from NT1 with Scarlett 2i2 to Shure SM7B with Volt 276.
Thank you. Keep going. Please.
Happy the videos have helped you make an informed decision. Hope you enjoy the setup and you make many years of great recordings. Have fun.
The wood on the side sold me. but my goodness the layering iinstruments rEALLY make it evident how much a quality compressor while tracking can completely change a recoding...
Aside from the ability to actual have a compressor in an audio interface (amazing), this thing just looks cool.
Plus its affordable?.....
yeah i'm sold.
Yes finally i knew where it's made from.
Heck no one ever explain it till now.
Great video! Thanks for amazing helpful info. Just one question... Don't you think the latency is too high on this one? Its approximately double of audient and more than double of focusrite.
Hi Bandrew. Great podcast. Can you explain why more interfaces don’t offer compressor/limiters? I’m amazed there aren’t more! One company that’s offered a solution for a while is Shure, with their MVi - but I rarely see it mentioned. Thanks for fun and info! C
Nice job especially on the verbal part of the intro -- talking backward isn't as simple as just spelling backward, as some might think. Yes, I immediately downloaded it, fired up DaVinci Resolve, and reversed it. Well done!
How does one get to Carnegie Hall (or speak backwards)? Practice, practice, practice.
@@Podcastage Although the talking part required skill and planning, the walking part was even more hilarious.
What is your go-to downloader/ripper these days?
I've converted my home set up to Dante. I'm using the focusrite rednet Am2 for my monitor interface. It sounds great! Would love to see you review the xp2.
The intro in this video is so 11/10! hahaha
Great review.
Would like to suggest a video where you test if the SM7B has enough power when recording on a phone/tablet(Android if possible)?
For context, I am a blind musician. I find that mobile recording software are enough for my use case. It also helps that they're a lot more simplified, and are Text to Speech friendly. I was gifted a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and found out that it can run the SM7B on it's own(no CL/fetthead) when I watched a Julian Krause review on it. I'm interested in getting the SM7B because other mics can't handle the sound pressure of my loud vocals. I am also not able to sound treat my room.
Stay healthy and cheers from Philippines.
What can I say that hasn't been said before. BRAVO!
Hi sir! Could we get a wrap up about the best usb mics 2021? That would be awesome! Thx and keep the good work!
I tried to get one of these before Christmas but nowhere had them, so I went for the Audient, and I really love the audient. I might get one of these at a later date.
I went with the minifuse 1 and I absolutely love it though I wish I qas able to get the white over the black
I’m pretty sure the Audient sounds better anyways
Would love to do a combined review with you. Just got a U87i and I’m going to put it up against the WA-87R2 soon. Would love to team up for video.
Twin Peaks reference?!?! Love it!
I want an alternative to my old Focusrite 18i6 1st Gen. These days I only need 2 ins and 2 outs. Don't need ADAT, or MIDI So, this Volt 276 looks great. Thanks for the review.
Would also be interesting to see a video on boom arms!
So niche case, but may be applicable for some: I was run my interface through a KVM switch built into my monitor in order to use speakers and mic with two computers. I was using an SSL 2 which had a tendency to lose connection when switching computers and required the computer to be reboot. I decided to try the Volt to see if this resolves, and it did. I experience no dropped connections. Headphone audio also sounds better on the Volt, for what it's worth.
All I know is that with vintage mode and the vocal compressor on I actually am finally liking the sound of my vocals. I'm recording into a Neat King Bee in a mostly untreated space, just using very close mic technique and I am shocked at how musical UA made 6:1 compression sound. Fixed ratio is nothing bad, the LA2A is fixed ratio, just turn up your input or "gain" in this instance. Honestly could do some faster processing though, my Behringer umc202hd avoided pops at lower latency times
Between this and the behringer, which one you feel has better sound quality?
And would you still recommend it?
If you had to choose between this and the Motu M2, which would you choose? I like that the knobs don't wobble. But what I like about the Motu is that is has two phantom power buttons. Thanks for the awesome reviews.
Hey bandrew love the Channel, your mic reviews helped me pick a good mic for my setup. I have a question however, what is a good 2 channel audio interface for around $200?
Motu M2!
I've seen your reviews on Focusrite 2i2, Ssl 2+ and now this Uad Volt276. And not just yours reviews. Everybody is talking only about their preamps. What I'm interested in is the job which has to be done after recording. So my question is: how is the 'output signal' afected by these audio interfaces? Which one is cleaner in the output? I have to say that I'm a beginner and maybe my question has no sense, but yes, this is what I look for, a audio interface whit an clean output. Thanks!
Hello Bandrew. . Would you compare this to the Berringer XENYX S02? (That is what I use to monitor my bass guitar.) I have to admit that when I read the technical data sheet included made me laugh, made me cry, and brought me to my knees in terror.
You sold me. I’m getting one.
Thanks again dude. Excellent vid as always. I really really really want to see a collaboration between You and Julian. A podcast once a month discussing you rfavourite gear and experiences would be awesome and mutually beneficial to both of you. 2 different styles but very similar in attention to detail. Having said that. I am on the fence over the SSL2+ & the Volt 276. I use the SM7B a lot due to my recording evironment, so the gain in the SSL is appealing but I think both drive it comfortably. I recently purchased the ID14MK2 but quickly sold it on as it has a lot of issues mainly around drivers. I think any interface north of the $250/$300 price point should be including ADAT expansion as a priority as a lot of users would appreciate the flexibility and expandability of the feature. In the end though, after watching this and Julians video on the Volt 2, me thinks I'm a going to choose the Volt 276.
So u buy volt 276 now ?
Top video👏👏
*Now currently patiently waiting for the Telefunken TF47 and TF51 reviews* 👀
me too
Thank you
I cant wait till the re-review of the RE20
I will be using this for recording guitar DI tracks, mostly metal. Do you suggest switching on 76 comp guitar/fast while recording?
Fun...interesting...and helpful!
Quick question: Regards the Motu M2/4 and the Volts, which one has better preamps and signal output, (in a musical way)? Thanks ;)
How do I get around it not having a mix knob for input and playback? I always have to turn the usb audio down when I record… do we just turn down the master out of the mix I’m playing with? Is that something we can get used to? Thanks.
Sir please 🙏 I need a valuable piece of information . Does the akg d5 with compressor on generate a lot of noise like the sure sm7b because I think the recorded signal with the sm7b is not usable. I have the samson q2u and with the focusrite solo first gen gives very clean gain 👌 but the dac in this interface is not good 😐 and with volt using the compressor it gives very noisy signal .so will the akg d5 good with the volt using the 76 compressor?
It's a shame UA didn't provide a separate compressor drive control. As it stands, the preamp gain is the only way to control compressor drive level, but that also controls saturation in Vintage Mode. Practically, compressor drive would have to take priority.
Thanks!!
Great review.
Can anyone make note of how the Volt 276 compares to the first gen Scarlet 2i2?
I just recently discovered your channel and I'm enjoying it too much !! I already watched dozens of your videos they are amazing , fun and informative !
I have a request, can you do a review on the Warm Audio WA-14 and the Se Electronics T2 and maybe and comparative between these two and the AKG 414 and the SE Electronics 4400 ?
Thanks and keep up the great work !
Hi, I Neef your advice ... Would you buy motu4 or Volt 273? Greetings from Tirol/Austria
98% off topic, but what is that pop filter?!
And... great review. Game keeps getting better. Thank you!
The pop filter is the old Rode NT1 filter that came with the NT1kit (rycote shock mount version).
Like the mk5, it has eq, comp, and noise gate in their interface, and they all work really well
meh, better options out there
Are you gonna review the new UA mic?
Danke!
I just want to know what the latency is on this when recording live instruments and when recording midi/VstPlugins in my daw?
I'll be completely honest. I got a Volt as a gift for Christmas and I really didn't see that much of a difference compared to my Mbox Mini 3, or Focusrite 2i2.
The reason why I mention this is because the device is REALLY good, but if you already have a interface like the ones I mentioned I don't think it's worth trying to justify spending money when you're not getting the biggest upgrade. Is it an upgrade yes, but is it going to make your music better? No. More on this later.
With that being said, if you don't have an interface and you're looking at getting your first one, I'd skip every interface and buy a Volt.
And if you have the money, I don't think theirs anything that beats UAD Apollo. (Based on my experiences with like 5 or 6 different mics + UAD plugins = great all round experience)
Only speaking from my own experience. I think sometimes people get stuck with trying to buying gear instead of creating. If you channel that focus on creating, it doesn't matter the gear you have. I dont think a common listener will be able to get guess the interface you used haha.
Anyways, Podcastage keep up the fantastic work. Your channel is amazing.
The 276 would’ve been an upgrade from the volt 2/Scarlett 2i2 because it has the 76 compression. It’s kinda between those interfaces and the apollos.
20:40 I am looking for a USB interface that will handle my laughing without clipping. Was hoping the compressor would do that. I notice you're talking about an analog limiter instead. Does anyone have any context to help me understand why you'd want the analog limiter? I thought the compressor was also a limiter. And also, are there any interfaced that have an analog limiter built in like you're asking for here?
Are you going to review the Beacn USB mic?
Is Steinberg ur22c better than quality??? Which one is better for Neumann tlm 103? Thank you in advance!
Every once in a while you could do mic/setup comparisons in a price range (50usd, 100usd, 200usd, etc)
But what is the difference between 76 compressor and vintage mode in sound , you didn't mention?
Do you Think the shure beta 87a would go good with the behringer um2?
music test nice much friend dear. wonderful player
First of all, very good and informative videos.
Currently I am putting together my audio setup, until recently I had the Motu m2 as a favorite. But some said that I should look at the Volt 2 as it is also very good.
Is the Volt 2 better or more worth it than the Motu m2? which one would you prefer?
Mainly I use the interface for gaming & listening to music and maybe I'll start streaming soon.
I think the Motu m2 would still be the better choice what do you think?
Great work keep it up!!!
U buy that volt now ?
so what do you recomended that ? or m2 ?
Can u make a comparison between UAD Apollo twin x vs volt 276?
I read you need at least 60db gain for the sm7b. does this have enough gain for the sm7b?
Hi Bandrew and thanks for all the info which helped my choose a Volt 476... 4 lines of everything would have been nice. I'm about to get a Lewitt LCT 640 TS for stereo. Would it get too noisy plugging a 276 into my 476 to get another 2 channels of comp and vintage for my GAP R1? (I'm guessing yes)
Hi, what has your experience been with the Lewitt LCT 640 ts mic ? I am planning to buy the same set
Would I see a decrease in preamp or ADDA convertor quality moving to this from an Apogee Duet 2?
How is the headphone out? Do you think its good enough to power 770 pros 250 ohms?
woah, i was going down the vocal chain rabbit hole and then i paused and thought, "wait how good are the pres on the volt i already own?". Turns out, pretty damn close to a $1200 preamp! I can definitely hear a difference, but the volt doesn't sound bad by any measure. I'd say it gets 90-95% of the way there. anyway, thanks for saving me a bunch of money!
oh, bandrew. I love tuesdays, thanks to you. is that wrong? if anyone knows, i would love to know what converter chips they have.
Oh nice design maybe inspired by some old Dieter Rams and Braun products. Wish there were more things inspired by them.
I’m debating on getting the volt 1 , or the umc202Hd
Do u get zero latency with the universal audio volt 276 ? Like the universal audio Apollo interfaces??
hey, would I be able to connect a guitar to my iphone camera? If so how
You should try out the M-Audio Air 192 | 4
