  • It’s been hailed as a historic milestone towards lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan: Armenia said, it is willing to return several Armenian controlled enclaves to Azerbaijan. The enclaves are uninhabited - only a few people will be directly affected in neighbouring villages. But locals are angry - and worried Azerbaijan will want more land. DW’s senior international correspondent Fanny Facsar reports from Tavush province in Northern Armenia, on the border with Azerbaijan.

@@mohamadsyafrimunir3685 somewhat. the whole of the land in question has historically been Armenian land or inhabited by ethnic Armenians.
As in, the land was given to the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic (not the Republic of Azerbaijan) under Stalins rule. There had been no country or an ethnic group called "Azerbaijan" up until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Or at least, in that area of the Caucasus. The majority of those living in modern Azerbaijan were Shia turkmen that moved into its modern borders when Russia seized the area from Iran.

If the land was previously Azerbaijan villages, then return it to them and give alternate lands to the villagers. The problem is not Armenia or Azerbaijan but politics... opposition party trying to go and incite people for their personal gain over the country's peace. Once you have such people, outsiders will fund them for their own good, and within no time you will see Russia and NATO fighting another war using soldiers from Azerbaijan and Armenia.

It is very hard to sympathize with Armenia and the plight of the Armenian people as someone who knows the most recent history before this ordeal.
How goes that old saying? "You made your bed, now lie in it"? Armenia was the aggressor during the dissolution of the USSR, claimed and occupied Azeri territory with Ex-Soviet, now Russian help, and then proceeded to ethnically cleanse occupied territory.
For all I can see is "Azerbaijan demands its recognized international borders, Armenia stubbornly refuses and gets droned to oblivion by Azerbaijan."
DW and a lot of other networks have been consistently and blatantly one-sided in its interpretation of this conflict, and weirdly pro-Armenian, just slowly prying Russia's pet away from them, by throwing them the occasional emotional support bone with pieces like this, but never (and they never will) do anything concrete, as Azerbaijan has been gaining importance for a while now, its crucial position and oil wealth make it, to an order of magnitude, more important to energy starved Europe, then Armenia ever could be.

Azerbaijan clearly has the economic initiative with baku oil fields, and Russia just staring from above, while also working with turkey and iran to get a cut of the oil proceeds by assisting in setting up future gas/oil pipelines. I wouldn't be surprised if russia hopped in later to swoop that oil or if Armenia found some natural resource in the ground that the West values and realligns priorities. The land Azerbaijan is demanding belongs to Azerbaijan according to international agreement, the fact that this was mentioned at all shows West’s deeply ingrained bias and indifference to the past when massacres were done to millions of Azerbaijanis.

Atikian If you don't know, I'll write Azerbaijan Republic was established in 1918. The Republic of Armenia was founded in the same year. Azerbaijani Turks had small feudal states in this geography (Iravan Khanate, Karabakh Khanate, Nakhchivan Khanate, Baku Khanate, etc.). Before that, there were states created by Azerbaijani Turks; Seljuklus (with Turkish and Turkmenistan heritage), Atabays of Azerbaijan, Elkhanis (Hulakus), Aggoyuns, Karagouns, Safavis (Gizilbas), Afshars, Qajars. But only Armenians inform about the country called Armenia as a primary source. This is also in question

I knew this was coming if Russia ever had to hit maximum combat capability in Ukraine, and it has. It's the same reason Georgia is in the middle of mass rioting and has the potential for a coup. I hear things are going better for the more democratic powers in Syria. This war was likely the worst decision russia has made in 100 years. It would not have happened without COVID. That's one heck of a rabbit hole.

@@militant_pacifist there difference tho. azeri paid for russian weapon, armenia is not. Armenian government for atleast a decade consider anti-russian and pro-western position. Moreover both armenia and azerbaijan recognise NKR as part of azerbaijan, so no legal opportunity for CSTO to involve. I'm not suggest Russia was able change outcome of NKR demise, but definitely had no reason to involve.
