If you live in a tropical climate, trust me, cockroaches are the norm, no matter how clean you are. Everyone I know (including myself) has a cockroach infestation to some extent, even though my house is cleaned daily.
That's true. If your neighbors are having a cockroach infestation, your clean home might as well get infested. Still, I wish the design prevented PS4 from becoming a cockroach home.
True, also in an apartment complex all it takes is one. Also if the houses are close together enough roaches can come in via the sewer. Had a friend who had to battle roaches because the next door neighbor was infested and when they treated the house his got infested from the sewer.

It had cocaroaches and within a month they had destroyed our kitchen radio / Dish washer / microwave . They would nest inside and shorted the appliances . We fumigated the kitchen and got rid of the issue , but seriously . They get into everything that has holes .
The problem with roaches is that no matter how many roaches u see and kill theres still the ones living between the walls you cant get.

Tricob1974 I moved to Florida 3 yrs ago. My condo had an ant problem and those huge ass cockroach/waterbugs were around too when I 1st moved in. Luckily I had secured the place with this great spray that you can get from home depot. It worked so well that they'd always show up on their backs, basically dead already. Then I saw em less and less until I stopped seeing em completely. I got a PS4 and have never even seen any of em near my system, but obviously I run a clean and tight ship.
Cockroaches actually don't fly around in Florida. My dad said that everything in Florida is so flat, the roaches don't even bother. They're kind of lazy that way, he said. :-)

to anyone experiencing a cockroach problem in general, I can help you out.
I've had 2 massive cockroach issues. the first time a lizard got into my house and before raiding the whole room trying to kill it, we left it for a few days because it got to every cockroach in the room.
the second issue was a lot worst since there were cockroaches roaming around even during the day (signs of over crowding), and I had tried using the borax + peanut butter method which worked for a very small time but started again. what u did was I got a small jar of borax, and lightly sprinkled it around in the corners and in ever gap I could see, and every night before going to sleep, I'd take a spoon and sprinkle it on the middle of the room and sweep it up in the morning. this worked the best and I haven't seen a cockroach since. it also helps closing any open gutters around (I had an opening near my kitchen which I sealed off which duck tape).

I used to work at a pawn shop and this guy brings in a huge older tv that he wanted to pawn. we plug it in and it works he he takes the cash and leaves. The other gut working there was interested in buying it so the owner allowed him to check it out more. And that's when we notice a cockroach running between the screen and tube. So we decided we bought it might as well open the bottom to peek inside. The instant we took apart the bottom case a literal sea of roaches flowed from the thing. The other employee screamed like a little girl, I must have jumped back at least 10 feet and the owner ran out of the room instantly. That was some truly nasty shit.

As a Pest Control Technician I can attest electronics and cockroaches. Once had a kid with a ps4 so bad the roaches were actively running in and out constantly because they had nowhere else to go... For those that don't know roaches they are very sedentary creatures... GROSS

spray your home with insect repellent. i use Ortho Home Defense and spray around my base boards inside my home every 6 months and never see a roach or an ant or even a spider and i live in florida, the bug capitol of the u.s. you can be Mr clean, but if you don't have anything that repels bugs, then all the cleaning in the world won't stop bugs from coming in.

I completely agree, working as a field technician, I've found them in server power supplies, PC power supplies and even inside graphics cards and CPU heat sinks, they really do get everywhere. Ugh just thinking about it makes me glad I don't work in that field anymore.

Thing is, if that roach touched the leads of the smoothing capacitor (the big one, it’s responsible for turning the pulsed DC into smooth DC after rectification) WHILE it was charged, the roach would’ve actually EXPLODED. Those capacitors are meant to hold a high voltage, and since they are decent capacitance as well (somewhere around 100-200 uF) they hold a LOT of power.
When shocked by a capacitor, humans get serious muscle contractions (sometimes causing cardiac arrest if from arm to arm) and skin damage, cockroaches are far more conductive and have waaay less body mass, so all that energy causes THEM to actually explode. Aren’t you glad you aren’t a cockroach?

I went over to my friend's apartment once, and took my PS3. I didn't know they had so many cockroaches. We play for a while and then I noticed cockroaches everywhere and they were huge. Then I look to my PS3 and there's a big ass roach on it. Once I saw that, I finished my match with my friend and I was out of there.
dear god, i remember working in a retail PC repair shop and the horrors we use to see.. and yes we have opened PCs with roaches in it, and yes we did charge the client more for that repair as we had to spray the whole shop with killer to make sure we did not get infected from them, as roaches got a free ride to a new place with tons of nice hiding places.

I only clicked on this video because the same thing happened to me at a tech store. I opened a ps4 for repair and a dead cock roach was on top of the blue ray drive and a live one crawled out.

I was a computer tech, had a concern with a WII with cockroaches filling it that came in...not dead ones either... I will say this, the house I moved into had roaches show up within days of moving in as well as baby spiders. Was told by the people we rent from that they had sprayed before we moved in; but these are not little roaches either. They are big ones, the exterminator said that they may be living in my walls or under the appliances. So not only can you get them from your neighbors; but also from previous tenants.
I wonder if the build design of the Slim model stops roaches from getting inside. Also I live in a dorm, full of the filthiest people I've ever seen.

During my university education, an exchange student didn't have a place to stay until two weeks after the start of the semester.
So one of my neighbors was nice enough to let this guy crash at his place for about three weeks. About a month later, my neighbor and the tenants of the adjacent apartments start noticing that they've got a minor bed bug infestation.
Eventually my neighbor meets his former roommate and asks if he had bed bugs. He answered "yes" as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Everyone on the floor, including myself soon had them. To solve the problem, pest control had to spray our floors and beds with a mix of seashells and alcohol, plus everyone on the floor washed their pillows and sheets twice a week. Another friend, who was extremely clean (once a month he'd pull nearly all furniture out of his apartment to clean everything properly), had an infestation a year prior. As pest control didn't have anything to fight the bed bugs (they had been virtually extinct in Sweden for decades and all strong chemicals were banned), things eventually got so bad that he threw all of his furniture away and moved to a different apartment.
Back in the city I grew-up the cockroach population dropped like a rock after the municipal centralized heating company shut down. They just don't have warm enough places to hide during the winter. They used to have that in the basements where the pipes kept them warm.
I didn't know the sales for the PS4 were that good in Turkey.

The day I woke up and felt a cockroach walking on my arm was the day I was about to move to another planet. I hate those nasty creatures, my house is always clean but my neighbor has a lot of plants up there that also bring ants to my kitchen.
I use to do repairs on consoles and PS4s are not the only consoles that have issues. From what I could tell it is anything roaches can get into that can be warm and "safe" for them. I bought an Xbox One from craigslist that had a roach running around the trunk of the car when I got home. I freaked because...huge roaches or Water Bugs as they were so fondly called where I lived. Basically flying roaches that were pretty big, size of your thumb big.
Here is the best way to get rid of them that I have found and this is what I did. First set up a table outside and away from the building so if any more come out you can brush them off the table instead of having to catch them in your house. Second you need 90% alcohol, q-tips, paper towels, a can of air (or some other way to blow air), a large tub, Dawn dish soap, and all the tools and stuff you need to take apart the console. First put a decent amount of Dawn at the bottom of the tub. Then fill the large tub with warm / hot water and make sure to get the soap making bubbles. Think walmart sized storage container or anything large enough to fit pieces of the entire case of whatever console you have in. Once you have your table set up and everything at the ready, begin taking pieces off. Everything plastic and metal toss right into the tub. Continue until all plastic and metal pieces are in the tub. For the electronic pieces left on the table use the can of air to blow off or out any roaches, dust, or whatever is in there. Then use some alcohol to clean those electronic pieces as best as possible.
Anything thrown in the tub will die as long as it can't crawl out. For the Xbox One console, I took the faceplate off and found 10 - 15 roaches hiding there. I gently disconnected the ribbon cable and tossed the thing into the tub, nothing survived. Hope this helps in some way. It saved me the money of losing an Xbox One I just bought and could safely bring inside the house.

I can say from experience that Bed Bugs like to live wherever cockroaches live too! And trust me that is a much more serious problem. Your bedding and clothing can be effectively steriliised with a powerful steam cleaner (and I'm not talking about Jim:) but obviously steam cleaning your games console might not be the best idea.

Diatomatious Earth (spell check)
The more patient and cost less and natural approach
The D.E. in its particle base is sharp and can cut the bugs as they walk on the surface of it
Gardeners use this on their flower beds for a "pesticide"
Don't breathe it in either
It's quite harmful for the lungs
Heat treatment which is hands down the best but more expensive if you seek professional help
Even gets the bastards in the indestructible eggs though
You can salvage clothes and bed sheets with this as well
Throw them in the dryer for a few cycles on the highest heat and you're good
Might shrink a bit but it's the cost of getting rid of those things
I've caught myself using rubbing alcohol and getting decent results too lol

It's not just next door they will live inside the walls and come out through the electrical sockets so if there is a food source anywhere in the building everyone is effected.

I work at a game store, and literally the FIRST test we do when taking in ANY system is a roach check...if any bugs, bug parts, or poop falls out, we reject the trade. This is not a problem unique to PS4 in ANY way...any console can have roaches nested inside...and in my store about one in every three systems people try to bring in does. The most frequent offender is honestly probably the 360.
I fix computers and occasionally I run into this problem while cleaning them out, thank the Lord most times they are dead.
When I first opened a laptop at a clients house and I saw my first rrrrroaches, I freaked inside(had to keep it professional) they were apologizing and trying to kill them. I now wear gloves and carry Lysol wipes to wipe the computers down, especially the screen where people sneeze on it and don't clean it so you can see the residue or crusted snot on it. It comes with the job.

Three things when in an apartment. Caulking, yours,and your neighbors hygiene. My downstairs and next door neighbor are basically hoarders it seems. Caulking is the big one though. Make sure all cracks are sealed especially upstairs.

When a large bug of some sort crosses my path, I grab a can of Dust Buster, invert it, and spray the freezing liquid on them. They insta-freeze and turn white as moisture condensates. Scoop with a paper scrap and trash. No crunch, no goop.

flamingrubys11 but if they do get in they get stuck and die. Also baby roaches can access the box and the switch.

I remember one day my PS2 wasn't working, so I opened it up and found a dead cockroach inside of it. The PS2 ran fine as if nothing ever happened afterwards.
I've never seen a single cockroach in my house I guess I should be thankful 😂

neighbours living a few houses down from me had a massive bird aviary in their backyard. When they moved away back to hungary, they had to sell their birds and pull it down, guess where all the roaches went.

I used to manage a privately owned gaming store when I was younger, and I bought a Genesis from some kid and a roach jumped out and we opened it up and there were at least a hundred roaches in there and half were alive...fun times.

Actually, even if you just live in the south, cockroaches are hard to avoid. My mother-in-law keeps her house spotless but often has dead cockroaches lying in random areas. Meanwhile, I'll admit I'm messy but didn't have issues in the numerous apartments I lived in where I grew up in Michigan. In my current duplex we've seen them at times, but usually when the owners get lax on pesticides. Regardless, our biggest issue is spiders, maybe because we live on a lake. My in-laws have more issues with scorpions at their house.
I don't know what's worse: The fact that I chose to watch this video while I was eating my lunch or the fact that I was able to finish eating my lunch as the video played.
