    Okachan, reminds me of Mr. Miyagi. An I say that with %100 respect, he is very thorough, knows all the tricks of the trade, and doesn’t mind teaching his skills to someone who actually appreciates them. He also seems like a father figure who will not hesitate to go off on you for not listening or doing something the proper way. Great guy.

      The tapping is to make the polish uniform so it doesn't build up in one location too much, as most people are dominant with one hand and put slight pressure on one side.

    Three things about the manifold, what happens if you don’t brace the box is you put all the load on the solid mount which just transfers the cracks further up the billet, the mount vibration can be cured with simple rubber bungs like they put on wire push through sockets, and that weld was just heated for too long all at once. You gotta tack, cool, pearl and thread. I mean, the size of the beads shouldn’t be bigger than the head of a drawing pin. And the heater line might have been an attempt to make a cold start system... I wouldn’t say “never” but it’s not a beginner job to do. You need the material dexterity of a net maker. Basically, the logic is that the vibration radiates out from the source of greatest inertia, I assume the idea was to share the load across a triangular point of bracing. Aluminium tends to blister if it is exposed to heat too long, and that causes a brittling cool down and that’s where you get the kind of hardening reduction that you showed. Anyways, just being that annoying guy. Sorry.

    It's funny remembering the Phong's story, on boostedboiz, about lapping valves. He said that in Japan, his father made him do the valves manually giving various excuses, but now in America he just does it with drill 🤣. It's definitely safer to do it manually, but I've also seen a trick of using a piece of small rubber hose attached to the valve and and the other end attached to drill. This way you're not putting to much pressure on it.

    Those Alloy girdles clean up real real nice if you hit them with a heavy duty degreaser. I used to put Kenco HD degreaser in a spray bottle, literally the only staining it wouldn't get out of an SR is the carbon build up on valves, you just gotta make sure not to leave it on too long because once it removes the oil staining it starts messing with the integrity of the alloy

    Hey Sam you should do a video on tips and tricks and knowledge on the SR platform. Explain the weak points of the SR and how to prevent them. Little trible knowledge you have like you recommended using a RB pump on it and cutting the oil filter pick up for US based motors or the exhaust manifold cracks on every one things like that. There plenty of people out there that are building SRs that don’t know those little things that make a big big difference and have to learn the hard way when there motor fails. I plan on building a similar 500hp SR later down the road but I want to do everything right the first time and cover all the weak points.

    Okachn is such a G. SO much wisdom and just goals.

  • @dotsmassacre
    @dotsmassacre 3 года назад

    Basically it comes back to the same principle as the valve heads... bearings are just the weakest part of the piston assembly, when you convert torque into rpm and then load rpm, the hardest parts will ultimately win any battle for control of motion... like on Adam’s R34 build, I mean, he is going to hit a glass ceiling at some point as most enthusiasts do and that ironically often causes them to give up...
