Couldn't help but lmao listening to this debacle and reading all of the comments below. Kate was definitely calm and patient with this interviewer. But, there is a reason for this - she's had lots of practice - with English interviewers. This is well before her visit to the US. There are some really cringe-worthy interviews with men asking the questions. But, this one is definitely the icing on the cake. Uh, make that icing splattered on the top of the cake after it falls ass-over-tea-kettle onto a rain-drenched road. Loved the way Kate said 'Love', in a way only she can say it.

English interviewers such as who? Provide a few names please. Cause I remember her from the beginning and I doubt there was one interviewer in England that was totally unaware of who she is and what she's done. Just provide a few names cause I've seen most of her tv interviews and don't remember one 'male English' interviewer ever showing such a complete lack of interest of asking such robotic scripted questions or who treated her like some silly pop star. But I'll take a guess you're not English and if you are then you wasn't in the late 70s, and if you were, then like I said, feel free to qualify your claim with a few examples.

I’m sort of amazed at all the shade being thrown at Sue Simmons in these comments!! I was never a fan, although I’ve known of her presence for her entire career on television back in those days. She never pretended to know more than she did - who knows how much earlier than the actual interview she got to do the research. I was expecting to see some really cringe-worthy disrespect from Simmons to the Divine Kate Bush - but that was not it at all. She didn’t know Kate’s work - she admitted it. Maybe she was a tad brusque, especially in the presence of such a great artist - but she knew nothing about her really, and said so right up front. She corrected her misnaming of “Running Up That Hill” - she wished Kate the best of luck in her career. I guess it was the comments that made me brace myself for something much worse. Jeez - it was a 5-minute interview. I don’t know - like I said, I was never a Sue Simmons fan, and she was just a newscaster, whereas Kate Bush I’ve adored since well before this interview took place - she had me at her performance of “Them Heavy People” on Saturday Night Live in 1979, and ever since - so I’m a huge fan. I don’t feel Simmons was in the least bit disrespectful, dopey, rude or mean. She did her best. She made a couple of mistakes, because of her lack of knowledge of the subject - she admitted them where she saw them, and tried to clear them up. And she even said, obviously impressed, that she had read a 9-page article on Kate’s musicianship. Sounds like everyone is expecting Sue Simmons to be a totally prepared Dick Cavett hour with Kate Bush. Strange to me the contempt shown by so many here.

I see what you mean. I too was like the others thinking that Kate she disrespected, but you threw a much clearer perspective on my original position. As an Australian, Sue Simmons was/ is unknown to me, but Kate Bush was massive in this country and my memories of her remain indelible.

It was also a live broadcast and Simmons probably had some looney in the control box yapping in her ear, counting down the seconds and saying "Don't forget to say... Don't forget to ask..."
I liked the way she threw away the script and chipped in "They'd have come" when Kate said the how grateful she was to Dave for helping her get the breaks.

2:36 The 70s and the 80s were my first decades of discovering music and especially the 80s (including this song) affected my taste in music fundamentally.
    But in retrospect:
how SHIT things were back then!
    "You were discovered..."
Back then creators/artists were _discovered_ by labels, and typically managed local to one country at first.
Now everyone (literally a thousand times more creators compared to then) can easily create, perform, produce, release and market music and even videos completely on their own on no-cost worldwide platforms, being available to billions of people.
Imagine the luck that we all had that Kate Bush actually were discovered back then, and not yet another mainstream music broiler.
And imagine how many creative talents that weren't...
Today I discover several new amazing creators ecery week, from lots of countries.
In the 80s, you typically had to spend lots of time and effort to find the interesting stuff: traveling to the next city, slightly larger that had record shops with (imported) alternative music, spy-reading rock magazines (also next city), staying up late night listening to more obscure radio channels/programs that played all the good stuff that weren't on the charts. It was also a misogynistic industry - so hard to find interesting female artists that didn't compromise on their artistic integrity. Virtually all record label bosses, all managers, all journalists and all magazine editors were men.
Today, yt recommendations do all of that for me for free, way more efficient and also better than any chart or Spotify selection/collection.
I loved the 80s and all the new genres and non-mainstream music from then, but all things together, music (the art form, the industry) is so much better now!
[Thank you if you read all the way through my too long rant]

Hands down, one of the best interviewers ever. She asked really interesting questions that hinted at things we've always wondered about. Kate's fear of traveling over water, her recognizing that her music wasn't intended for American pop radio, and that the sudden interest in her in the US was because we were eager for genuine voices. Good on Kate for a great interview....but, Sue Simmons did her job.

That felt like a job interview between two people who didn't want to be there...especially Simmons, who couldn't be bothered by getting the name of the song and album down correctly.

This interviewer was better than the one from nightflush or whatever it was.
I don't think she was ill prepared as much as rushing to get the interview done in the few minutes remaining on the show. She corrected her mistake over the title. Ok she got the name of a synthesiser wrong but it was a nice touch to say that the breaks would have come for Kate.

She is always quick with her answers in her interviews but I don't think she likes interviews because of the stupid questions she is asked,I'm sure sometimes it's hard for Kate not to laugh.I have seen many of her interviews and a lot of the questions are nearly always the same. She is very patient, humble and polite.
