She always seems extremely intelligent in interviews. She never stutters and always speaks enough to get the point across and then stops. I've never seen someone speak so concisely before. It's refreshing.
Yes, she is clearly extremely intelligent and also talented/gifted, creative/imaginative, driven, inquisitive, confident and unaffected. Almost forgot, pleasant and gorgeous too. ;) Genius like this is not just rare it is unique. We are so lucky to have her.

I agree the original comment regarding Kate. I love that she went the direction she wanted to go amazing. so articulate and a pleasure to listen too. she's so beautiful too. no one will ever forget you Kate!
She could have very easily worked as a TV presenter with her articulate skills and photogenic looks; and I'm not talking about your average Saturday night drivel. I could imagine her presenting the more respectable programmes like Tomorrow's World or Panorama.

Not only is Kate not nuts, she may well be the sanest person in pop music. She has no interest in celebrity or fame, only in making her music. Our society is so twisted that not wanting celebrity or fame makes people think you;re nuts.

It's funny how different she is from the "super stars" we see nowadays. They are so superficial and look stupid when they speak!! Kate sounds so beautiful, intelligent and humble. She is just lovely!!
@Cherry Absolutely this. It's why we're have people using so many filler words (basically, obviously, actually, like, kind of, sort of etc) because people are rushing to get their thoughts out and not consider their response before giving it. Kate comes across as so much more intelligent because there's a slight pause and her words are delivered with conviction and honesty. Not what she's been told to say by a PR guru.
Even if famous pop star Rihanna was the smartest women in the world she would never act nor speak like Kate Bush because she’s a whole different culture and generation. Kate Bush was lucky enough to be a white woman (not being systematically oppressed) being born with money to get proper schooling, and her accent comes about her time period and location. Many superstars today are colored or heavily influenced by colored people and their culture as funk/disco/rap/hip hop exploded into the scene, being A LOT more urban. Again this has to do with schooling. Kate Bush wasn’t born to speak proper English. Stop using her privilege of speaking well against stars today. They are all intelligent but in different ways.
@@darrenwilson99 I can't imagine she'd take advice from a PR person or agent etc judging by this interview. She had her own ideas and she wanted to do them regardless if they are a success or not. She had her own fanbase.

I loved this interview. The guy asking the questions really seems to grasp they way Kate likes to talk about her work and her art and does not go into her personal life. Great interview.
I believe he was a personal friend of Freddie Mercury and managed his career. He's a proper music insider and has even been around recording studios while albums are made. Paul is a really respected guy.
Gambo is a music encyclopaedia, he lives and breathes music. His radio programmes are superb.

Damn; finally an interviewer who asks cogent and intelligent questions. You can see that she appreciates these questions. What a classy and unique talent she was and is. Plus she sounds like an ASMR-tist here!! So relaxing.
You can sense the intensity of her intelligence in her words. A creative genius.

Kate Bush is one of the most talented people I've ever seen or heard. It'd be enough if she only sang, with the uniqueness and range of her vocals, by itself is quite a talent, but then she also can masterfully play instruments, dance, produce and write songs like a genius. And not only does she have all these skills but she uses them all in ways that are truly unique and are unlike anyone else in her field. Seems like a great human being too. She's very human but also other worldly.
Folks from Ye Aulde KB fanzine "Homeground", who actually met her at fan meets, confirmed that last point.

I know slagging people off is the English National Sport (much bigger than Football or Cricket). But Gambichini had a long history of being one of the few interviewers that Kate actually *liked*, and she opened up to. So I'll give him a lot of credit.
So cute when she smiles and raises her eyebrows! Stunning beauty and amazing talent that's almost out of this world! I'm rediscovering her, or more like appreciating her now. Funny she never toured in the 80s or 90s.
KRAZEEIZATION I discovered her music last year and she's now become one of my favourite artists. I marvel at her talent creativity & intelligence.

I've been collecting Kate videos since 1979, constantly upgrading to better versions, trading tapes with other collectors, etc. Glad to make them available.
There she sits saying yes indeed she's afraid people could forget about her not knowing that in 2022 a whole generation will celebrate her again after never been forgotten in the first place by those who knew her already. She's so deserved it.

Kate was scared even then about getting forgotten and she was only gone for over a year. Little did she know then that she could take decades off and still her work would still be at the top. Kate the G.O.A.T.
Depends on what you mean by "at the top". Most young people have never heard of her and she only ever had huge success in the UK, elsewhere she was more a cult artist with a small, loyal following. She couldn't fill stadiums all over the world like some artists today are able to - some of which have been around almost as long as her.

When she first toured, she revolutionized the nature of touring. She invented the headset performance microphone with her engineer Gordon "Gungi" Paterson. David Bowie had dancers and costumes before her, but she was doing stories with the songs. She set the standard for performers.
So she got caught up in the idea that she had to top the Tour of Life. For instance, at one point she was working with Henson's Creature Shop on costumes for a tour.
Her fans would be happy to see her at a piano.
She has a beautiful voice, whether speaking or singing.
I bet Kate Bush never let success into her head. She never snored any lines of coke and trashed hotel rooms. She's clean and modest. She did everything like she wanted = original. What a great role model.

Paul is EASILY one of the most intelligent and insightful popular music presenters we've ever had in this country. There can't be too many in his line who are in possession of TWO degrees - one of them from Oxford. Give me HIS presentational style any day over that of, say, Jonathan Ross.

When I finally looked into Kate Bush and her work. I'm rather pleased with her work. She has an intelligent insight about her visuals and songs. The story about Whodini and his wife was insightful. I found out she had an Artist development contract. It was definitely worth the investment.
The Dreaming is my favorite Kate Bush album. Suspended in Gaffa is my favorite from that album

Forgot what a great interviewer Paul was. His recent comments on Kate were the most intelligent IMO, and this was Kates best interview at that time. Kate was not like Madonna or Taylor Swift, and more in line with Prince and Bjork. Paul did a great job in showing that here. So happy for her resurgent popularity.

I've known Kate's music since Wuthering Heights, but before the internet, had never heard her speak in interviews. I'm surprised at how softly spoken and sweet natured she is. Truly endearing. Very Intelligent and utterly gorgeous too, of course!!
Always amazed me that Kate never really smiles in any of her music videos or still photos, but WOW she's absolutely knockout when she does.

There's also something forlorn in her music, especially the most intimate pieces. It's as if you were allowed to glimpse a whole world, not without danger, but rich, layered and fascinating, but which you can only look from a distance, knowing you'll never really get there, never fully grasp it. A great interview needs a great interviewer and a great interviewee. This has both.
Very good interview, with a really wonderful, lovely woman who is undoubtedly one of the most interesting, gifted song writers and musicians of the modern era.
This woman is a genius, and continues to make music which goes in directions the listener is not expecting. The opening track on her first album is a great example of this. The song is called Moving, and is full of these weird chord progressions that work.

kate is one the pioneers of women taking charge of her own career from top to bottom , shes a genius, having wrote over 200 songs before she was 16, a musician, creative dancer , songwriter producer , and a great voice ,
I think the thing that is most amazing about Kate Bush is the majority of her songsare written from a position of empathy. The majority of songwriting is very self involved, of course there is nothing wrong with this as people tend to write most convincingly from there own perspective. Kate went on to write "The hounds of Love" and a lot of the songs were written from here own perspective and drawn from her own feelings. Such as "hounds of love" and "running up the hill". At the same time she would write "cloudbusting" which is famously written and inspired by someone else's experience. I have never seen a more grounded and empathetic person, it is particularly amazing in the music industry where the motivation quite often isn't the art itself.

She is pop. She has hooky choruses uses instruments that are used in contemporary music by other contemporary artists. I was in Britain when she came out with her first single Wuthering Heights. Virtually everything she did that charted after that sounded like a pop record. It was only her voice that was different from other artists. Are Friends Electric by Gary Numan which came out the year after sounded nothing like a pop record or like what was going on at the time.
Imagine being able to make music that Kate loved as much as we love her music. It would be so amazing to even just give back .000001% of the pleasure experienced through her music. She is so, so special. How can we even thank her enough?

Interesting that Kate acknowledged that The Dreaming demanded a lot from the listener and that it took several listens to appreciate it. That was certainly my experience. On my first listening, I remember feeling disappointed with the album. Now I think it one of Kate's best. I wasn't ready for it, at the time.

I saw her gig in Manchestrr in 1979 and still have the £3.50 ticket. She was incredible and I've been a fan ever since.
She is just so delicate... In a non sexual non creepy way. Gorgeous eyes especially

I listened to the single of the Dreaming again recently and was surprised at how good it was. I think it is astonishing. Back in the day, it seemed fairly odd, so I was amazed at how much I enjoy it now.
Recently met a doppelganger of Kate Bush. Still not as amazing as the real original self. Absolute genius.

"The Dreaming" was the first Kate Bush album I bought. I wasn't interested in her earlier work. This is where she really evolved into the unique artist we all know today. It's a very non-commercial and bizarre album. I love it!
