That is a true statement- they are usually rusted to hell, doors don't open and, its driven by 16 year old kids, or some rural mail carrier that has 5 million miles on it. Cheers
Hagerty always picks the cherries for there collection ! Agree wanna see the time lapse and the break in .. That XJ will prob be here 100 years from now ..
Are these guys a restoration shop restoring classic cars? I see they work on alot of old cars. If so i have a couple projects for them i want them to do.
I really appreciate your “Get out in the shop and get your work done” catch phrase. It’s motivated me twice now and I made great progress both days. Since then, my 1JZ-GTE SC300 Twin-Turbo project is done well enough to drive to work on Fridays and I can see daylight at the end of that tunnel as I “finish” her. Thanks, man!
DANG that engine bay is clean! my 93 xj needs a rebuild its pushing 255k and iv only changed a few sensors and the waterpump after 15 years of having it.
I've done many engine outs and ins, for the mines in WA, I stick an A4 sheet of paper to my tool box lid with a magnet - take something off - write it down - put bolts in where they came from. When you put the motor back in - follow list in reverse, saves time and money and you wont forget anything. Keep list in the car in case someone else is going to assemble it!.
I have Mastiffs and they go where they want to go so I understand wires going where they want to go. My RockAuto tip of the day is the first place to look for your keys or a tool like a wrench you can not find is under your dog. The majority of the time they are laying on them.
I labeled and numbered all the fuel injector connectors when I did the 4-hole upgrade and changed my rail, but STILL somehow managed to get the #1 and #2 cylinders swapped around! Paid a shop $100 to "diagnose"..... Talk about feeling *doink'd*!
A set of paint markers cannot be undervalued when it comes to work like that. Stripes of different colors and combos across components and connections make it basically impossible to screw up. Leave the marks when you're done or spend a few minutes with some acetone and clean them off.
@@TheBrokenLife It is also great for telling you when you torque bolts. This is extra important when bolts need more than one torque step. It is a good reason for multiple colors.
This project has been an absolute blast to watch. I have a stock 2-door '93 XJ with 156k on it that runs perfectly, but when the time comes, it will become a fun little project. Thanks for this series. Reminds me of growing up and watching my dad work in his shop.
She looks and sounds great! I like the wheel and tire you chose too. Clean clean clean like my 98 it's nice to see them like that. Driveline is a little bit crusty but meh, that stuff can easily be cleaned up, mines like that too lol. On some factory vehicles the wiring trains itself to be in certain places and for the most part, on these things they have their own routes and places to go. You can almost NOT put a wire in the wrong spot on these since the plugs wouldn't match or the routing won't reach or there would be way too much slack. These ones are pretty much fool proof. A lot of newer cars are like this but I do find if I had to mark wiring it's on older cars like early 80's and older, since they like to have 'bushels' of wires coming from the same spot with similar plugs. I'd get the tape and markers out for those.
I'm tired of the shop so I'm putting the finishing touches on the 22 year old Cub Cadet lawn tractor I restored over the winter enjoying a beautiful sunny day. 48 degrees is Speedo weather here.
Yes, this is an excellent example of a Cherokee and I wish it was parked in my driveway. Fell in love with these, whilst working as a tech at a rural Cleveland Jeep/Dodge franchise. Actually owned an '89 model, albeit kinda rusty. Good job boys!!
Don't worry Dave, we have faith in yall. Every body has a 180 out day now and then. Great work gentlemen. That Yeep looks and sounds amazing. Till next time.
Yeah I've got a 2 door 1989 that's the Pioneer edition(that has all the extras from the factory!) and it's straight but it's not that clean and I hope the motor never fails in it,but if it does I'm putting that 4.6 in it!
These are easy to upgrade. v8 zj steering is a good upgrade, same if you want a thicker sway bar. 97 plus brake booster/ master cylinder is another upgrade. zj or liberty rear disk brakes. WJ front knuckles and Brakes. 97 plus chrysler 8.25 is 29 spline axles. All bolt in stuff.
C'Mon David your body language spoke volumes when working that Mopar Manual transmission for that race car, It's apparent you've avoided the car, It's ok, if maybe Mopars aren't in your comfort zone... I'd say ask Nick's Garage, Uncle Tony's Garage, or Even Dylan McCool, they're Mopar guy's on RUclips incase you never heard of them!😁
Great job on the engine. Might be a good idea to fix the front door hinges and fix the window assemblies because I am hearing rattles from both. The door hinges are a weak point on that body style.
We had turbo diesels here but they are extremely rare. I've seen like one ever. I find people have parts though. And I'm looking for the factory dash boost gauge I think would be sweet.
The USA got one very briefly. It was because Renault had some ownership of the Jeep name. The diesel was uncommon in the USA because the fuel savings weren't worthwhile.
As the owner of 4 of these things over the years, please replace ALL of the steering gear and sway bar links, ALL of the front control arm bushings, tear down the Dana 30 and replace all 4 ball joints, and replace the leaf springs. I'd bet they're flat when it's on the ground on it's own weight.
At minimum, it's pretty much a no-brainer to replace the track bar on every Chrysler solid axle of this era, especially if the torx bolts aren't hopeless rusted in place already. Cheap insurance.
@@levisylvester i have some vibe at 65-70mph that destroyed it. It’s still there with another transfercase, new drive shafts, and new rear eaton, gears, and bearings. If it is still there after new front diff bearings, I’m lost.

You can buy absolute hot garbage parts for if you're going to flip the unit or get oem parts if it's a keeper. For props to them for that variety. I do with shipping was more consolidated. But there in real life is nothing we can do. They would have to raise the price and eat the cost of shipping. So all gravy. P.s. I with my I6 had looked and ran that good. Where in Michigan are you all?
Even though the header is coated or whatever, that 4.0L motor still needs the DEI heat wrap kit for the fuel injectors and rail, in the WORST of ways..... Trust me.
Oh no... a stock exhaust manifold. 🤦♂ Unfortunately, you're probably going to be back in there before long to change it. It's probably the most well known flaw of that era of 4.0.

Can't remember the last time when I was able to want to "sit down " and watch one of these.. they are all too short to do that with. They've become "smoke break" videos...instead of the previous "lunch break" videos. There's a spot on the driver's side door that was fixed poorly that we will need to address at some point!

Little curious what you've done with the computer? is it still stock? flashed r is the tuning a to-do item?
Does the ECU need reprogramming or will it learn on it's own that theres a new power curve and fuel injectors are bigger?
Surprised you didn't clean & powder coat the driveshafts while you were prettying up everything else.
What happened to barn find hunter? Missing it a lot 🤔
What is the purpose of the stroker motor? Low end torque? Make it bulletproof? Crazy powerful sleeper? What is the goal?
Snowball will be racin in the sky, by the time it's done.
Will those be allowed for racing? The headers on the race car?
How does one tune the computer for the bigger engine on a 4.0?
I would’ve thought on first start up you have to hit it up to 2000 RPM and hold it there for 20 minutes to break the cam in…..
Where can I purchase a Redline t-shirt like David wears?
My tip of the day; tie your shoes so you won’t trip.
How are you going to tune it?
I think I need a change of underwear. That’s my dream Jeep.
