She was crying for help during Witness and everyone instead made funny of her. We should give her the same understanding as we did Taylor Swift after Reputation.
Taylor wasn't given any understanding. People literally cancelled her for something she didnt do. She didn't lie about the kimye matter but taylorisoverparty trended. She literally went into hiding. People still blame her for kanye but she didnt let that get to her an made an amazing record. Katy has gone through so much struggles. Her mental health is something we should care about. Im not saying katy deserves less but this is what happened to women in the industry, they have to constantly reinvent themselves unlike male artists. Katy deserved more for smile, it is an amazing record. I love her and im so happy she found herself
Taylor didn’t get understanding. She outsmarted the haters, she embraced all the things people said about her and created art. Besides Taylor had a huge dedicated fandom that never left her. What happened with Katy was several things. She started actively supporting Hillary Clinton in 2016 when it was not acceptable for a celebrity to do it as it is today, plus she waited way too long to release witness (4years) and her fan base was mostly the general public who wasn’t happy about her change and turned their back on her. She also didn’t evolve musically enough.
My point is that her and Taylor had something in common as the world turned their backs on them both. I don't think I need to explain myself more to get my point across. Compassion is plentiful for BOTH artists not just one.
Katy: *Makes TD and Prism* The world: You need to experiment more Katy: *Makes Witness* The world: You’re not making hits anymore Katy: *Makes Smile* The world: You need to experiment more!!! She literally can’t win. And honestly, Smile was my favorite album of the year (with Future Nostalgia following very close behind). Also, Never Really Over was my favorite song of 2019. So the world can complain that Katy’s not making the music they want. I’m out here enjoying the album. And yeah, I’ve heard that Capital is afraid that once Katy’s contract ends, she could go to another label and become a threat against them, so they’re trying to ruin her career and bolster up their newer artists. So that’s where the lack of promo for a lot of songs could come from. I think now that the Smile era is coming to a close (I doubt she’ll be releasing many more singles now that she’s given birth and won’t have the time for making music videos and going on promo tours), she can focus on KP6 which could bring her back to the front of the music industry again with the right promo. What I hope she’ll do for the next era is follow what people like Carly Rae Jepsen has and focus on just producing perfect pop music. Maybe throw in some collaborations with her closest friends on the record too. Just make an album that both critics and audiences will love to reassert herself as someone who can make amazing songs (which she’s been doing this entire time anyways) and then for KP7 she can go back into the chart topping type tracks when she’ll probably have more time/energy for promoting and touring.
J TK Personally, I didn’t really like Chromatica. The tracks were great and upbeat, but all sounded too similar to each other from my perspective. I wanted some of the upbeat hits while also maybe having a couple of mid-tempo range tracks to break them up instead of interludes.
@@Deasgustingisback tbh, I got really bored of the album after Rain On Me and Plastic Doll...but I totally agree with the fact that Capitol is sabotaging her, and then acting like nothing ever happened...do you know the Smile performance video? After it gained nearly a million views, Capitol took it down from her channel, which completely deleted nearly a million views from her channel...so yeah, I totally understand what they are saying!
i didn’t like it that much at first listen but when i listened to it with an open mind and not comparing it with her previous albums i enjoyed it so much and it’s one of my favorite pop albums of the year she really deserves all the happiness in the world
She is literally THE perfect pop artist. Her music is art, her personality is adorable and fun, her lifestyle is amazing, what more is there that you'd want out of this legend?
I agree with almost everything you said on this Album. I feel like “Not the End of the World” could’ve been a really good 2nd Single because it’s perfect for 2020. “Cry About it Later” is also a good choice because it follows the 2020s returning to the 80s and 90s sound. Also I do agree that there could’ve been darker songs at the beginning (Maybe a 15 track album with the 1st 3 songs about loss of hope, depression, and moving forward) and more storytelling about what Katy went through (like High On Your Supply) but I guess we get what we get. Overall, I enjoy the album for its positive and uplifting messages but I think it could’ve been handled a little better for more success, but at the same time she doesn’t need any more #1s cause she did that many times already and she’s a mother now. I’m just happy she’s still making music.
Kay Rikkelman she didn’t really have any publicity for it tho.. she released two “singles” for it like a year before its release and then dropped smile and the album very closely together. She doesn’t have a strong enough fan base to just drop an album out of nowhere like Taylor.
Katy perry's career feels alot like Mariah Careys. A massive record breaking decade(90s) to massive fall out(glitter). Then to soft comeback(charm bracelets)to massive comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi album. Katy and Mariah have alot in common and hopefully Katy will have a "Emancipation" sized comeback. If not, as a Katykat ill be always supporting her big and small.
I hope so but also it could be xtina. She had HITS in late 90's and early 2000s then a massive fall out (bionic), a failed comeback (lotus), and an album after 6 years which also failed to gain attraction (liberation). I hope she will have mariah tho
As much as seeing Katy on top is nice, it’s reality that she’ll never do that and never will need to. Smile isn’t her best album and, at least for me, has aged a little. It’s not her best but not her worst. Lyrically and vocally it’s amazing tho and it’s concept. The production I feel was for her fans who missed that sound, but other than that this album is for her. But now that she’s no longer on top and have had her sales halved (from witness) I hope we can see more artistic evolution in Katy. It’s nice to see her smile back and it’s nice to see her vocal talent flourish on this album. I hope we get more. Also capitol, there isn’t any actual proof or reliable sources about her being on bad terms, it’s likely not true and just something to blame the lack of sales on. They’re questionable as a label and have many flaws ,but that’s for another day. I think Katy isn’t in the place to get that and capitol isn’t willing to push an artist that doesn’t care to be at the top
Very good point in your latter statement. I never even thought of that. If Katy doesn't care about being #1, I'm sure she might have discussed it with Capitol and potentially could have come to an agreement.
but as an artist, it’s just very heartbreaking to see people not liking your art and see yourself in a place that is very far from where you’ve been and used to be, just because an artwork you put out before which wasn’t popular. i’m sure she’s fine now and accepted that but whenever i think about it, it just makes me sad.
@@popdissected4400 The thing is, and this is a huge issue these days with some mayor female artists in general: labels do not promote them the way they do with their male artist. Funny tho because Katy is the only artist on Capitol's list who sold over 100m units and she is by far the biggest artist they have yet they do almost no playlisting, minimum promo, and like nothing for her in general. Yes, maybe she does not care about being on top with this record, but for a label to do just nothing and let it all go is just so so bad. As a label, you should ALWAYS stand behind the artist and promote their work in every single way because fans also see that a label that doesn't care about their artist and just get mad about it and very frustrated. The least they could and should do is give it proper playlisting so it does not 'flop'. Even if Katy does not care about being #1 everywhere it will reflect on her next work. People will call smile 'the second flop' in her discography in a row if it doesn't do decent and Katy does not deserve that negative publicity again. Her label also never said anything to the press when she got tossed around and made fun of. They have not said a single word to defend and stand by their biggest artist. So yes it's not that shocking to me that fans do not like Capital records because they send the ' we do not care about katy ' vibe year after year after year.
I would love for a dark sided album. A complete flip on SMILE. I think the most amazing lyric she created in the album is in NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. ‘Flipping off the flop now I just enjoy the ride’ is so incredibly personal. People claiming WITNESS was a flop and all the negativity surrounding it destroyed her and she was mad and upset about it. But then she’s realised that it’s not about money or anything like that. She’s making music because it’s her passion. Iconic
Exactly! I would love to see her return to a pop / rock sound like in "One of the Boys". I know she wants to focus on positivity, and that's so admirable - but I would have loved to see her address those who did her wrong.
Pop Dissected oh yes! I love the sound and the feel of ‘One of the boys’. Her voice fits so well with it and her writing back then was more raw and gritty and it didn’t sound too forced. She had less song writers working with her back then and you can see the difference
I have been suffering from anxiety and depression. Let me tell you this album is Type of escape for me. The song resilient really hit home . I wish to be resilient one day.
I am right there with you, friend ❤️ You have the strength, and you will be strong. In fact, you are strong as hell. Listen to the words of these songs, let them sink in. You are capable of more than anything you can imagine. You've come so far, and there is so much more out there for you. Stay strong, sending you lots of love.
Mad respect for including mental health call lines in the bio. Not enough people know there are resources and help available to them. Thank you for extending help for an underestimated illness
Of course. As someone who has had their own struggles before, it's always important to let people know they're seen and they are not alone - help is there.
This is the last album Katy is going to do with Capitol Records, her deal was only for 5 albums, maybe it’s the best for her. Because it is true, Katy spent a very long period of her pregnancy to promote her album. She did a lot of work by herself. Also I love ur vids, the way u analyze the situations of every artist I mean 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 u do a lot of research, and I love love love love that you give good thoughts about Smile, most of the youtubers that review this album have something bad to say about it, when actually this album is art. Thank u for doing this videos of Katy more people need to know deeply about her.
As a KatyCat, any video I do on Katy will be in her defense. I'm trying my best to remain unbiased and present just facts from what we've seen, and I hope I do that well. She doesn't deserve to be trashed for no legitimate reason. And let's hope once she's done with Capitol, we'll have KP6 be bigger than ever!
All I care about is Selena being busy happy and healthy so If you think charts can affect the way I feel about this Queen you are wrong and your comments useless. Kill Em With Kindness she'll say 💙
Haven't watched the video yet. But i can say that you're gonna be positive unlike other youtubers who just wanna add fire to the hate train. And let's not only judge it by it's performance commercially!! It's a BOP! Edit : Yay! Such a positive video with great analysis. You're a genius, trust me!!
I love how positive your content is and that you don't judge art or an artist based on their commercial success and relevance . I love that you don't hate on artists even when it's very cool and woke to hate on them . It's also amazing that you are using your platform for mental health awareness
I don't get that when Cry About It later, Tucked, Not the end of the world exists, her team chose Smile as a single when she is criticized for having no artistic growth
@@popdissected4400 idk, I checked wiki and it said Smile is a proper single, plus if it's a promo then Daisies is the only single for this era? (exclude NRO and HIH)
I do believe Katy can still bounce back into the top, Witness has definitely damaged her image but she's still a household name nonetheless..she still holds her chart power which is proven by the success of NRO, I think if she wants to go back to the top she can do it she just has to play her cards right, and her label should help calculate the right move to put her back on the spotlight. As for now, Smile isn't supposed to be a huge record..it is more of a gift to her fans
I would really love to see a video on how female singers have to face so much double standard both from the industry and the audience. This video was really good! You're amazing at being concise and still getting your ideas across in a very valuable way.
i have this little teory that came to my mind a while ago.. i saw the cover for smile the single and i realised she is not pragnent and has very similar hair with the style uesed in the nerver relly over cover and instantly popped in my mind that after the unexpectedly succes of never really over her label started building an ancual album and did that photoshoot and came up with the circus theme. they didn’t planned any promotion for never really over so they released small talk.. if the single picked higher in charts they could announce the album but due to the flopp that small talk was and hih never reaching billboard the album never got announced.. this leads us to daisies and the announsment if smile the album.. i am sad this alum didn’t started with the relese of nvr and her label did all these decisions but i am happy she is back and will gave us a new incredible body of work
My theory is they're trying to sabotage her seeing as this is her last album with her b4 the contract ends. Think about it, Harleys In Hawaii wasn't even sent to radios until 3 weeks after, which is when it died, streams got suspiciously cut in half. Daisies had the same problem. Being sent to radios 2 weeks after. Literally no promo. Also, most if not all of the singles were leaked, including the album. Even 365 was leaked a month prior. Never Really Over leaked 2 days before with no promo, Small talk leaked 2 weeks earlier, Harleys In Hawaii a few days earlier, Daisies 1 day earlier, Smile 4 MONTHS earlier, and the Smile album a month earlier
@Enoch Posada Doubt it, Capitol is just not as good as it used to. They spent a lot of money for Katy during Witness. Now they want to save money. Once Katy leaves she will hopefully become popular again.
That’s probably actually true since NRO and HIH weren’t supposed to be put on an album and Champagne Problems was probably not for the album based on the fact the video was filmed last year.
I think with her pregnancy, limited promo options, and during a pandemic she already had odds stacked against her. I think her next era is gonna be her true comeback if Capitol is smart
Considering how they are sabotaging her ("Forcing" a collab (Bon Appétit), not sending songs to radio, not supporting her, leaking her music, i think her best option would be to go to another label
I believe that Katy pulled the Teenage Dream strategy with this one: - Most songs on the record crafted for radio - Title track as the 2nd single - A combination of all the sounds from her previous records (Experimenting with different sounds on TD) - A very uncohesive (but dance-y) sounding record I dunno :P
I think capital records is on a good note with Katy. If you watch the smile music video again at the end of it, it says capital records on it. The album was definitely done by capital obviously. But she posted a video of her building a Lego set of the capital records tower in LA on her instagram.
What I found most interesting, is Katy didn't thank Capitol in the afterword in the "Smile" lyric booklet, and she has before in prior record booklets.
Pop Dissected ohh good point! That’s true I just looked! wow maybe capitol isn’t with Katy after all, anyways I LOVE UR VIDEOS (especially the Katy ones haha) ❤️
This is the album that made me appreciate Katy more. Her previous albums are more of a mask that feeds people happiness but she isn't genuinely fed with that happiness herself. This album spoke to me on a personal deeper level since I myself is struggling on my mental health. There are times when I listen to her Smile album while driving sometimes is suddenly makes me teary eyed. Somehow this album is my go to for vulnerability and mental healing. I really love this album because it speaks my mind. The lyrics are empowering and uplifting. ❤️
For me the standouts on smile are Never really over, teary Eyes, Daisies, resilient, tucked, Harley's in Hawaii and only love. They are the songs I marked when I first listened to smile as good. The rest still need to grow on me also I get why she named the album smile yeah it's important to try get back your smile but imo Daisies is way better for that message than smile (Daisies can be interpreted how you want)
I prefer your videos so much more then certain other you tubers with similar content that tend to drag artists and prop up others. Keep up the good work!
Soooo spot on with the flip side of fame, and the whole video over all. And i love how cohesive the narrative is on this album. It's like listening to a story of hope and resilience and love unfold.
Smile is a flop, it debuted number 5 which is really bad for an artist like Katy. But she said herself that she doesnt care about charts and sales so neither should we, just appreciate the music
I absolutely love Katy, but this album did not perform well, it debuted at #5 and this week it’s dropped to #54. It’s disappointing, because I do like the album.
I will always be on the side of the artist, never the fickle, cruel, unempathetic, sheep-like audience. I don’t get why I’m supposed to be kind and good to y’all when y’all decide to ruin people’s lives even though they haven’t done anything to hurt someone else. It’s so upsetting. How do you deserve kindness if you would do that to another human being? She wasn’t a bad person. She was an artist who made art that didn’t appeal to you. I hate all of you.
Pop Dissected not you, of course. I watch your videos and even sent your video on folklore to my sister who is a huge Taylor fan because you are so delicate and polite.
im not even a big katy fan when she came out. she just kinda existed, and that some of the songs were kinda catchy. This album honestly surprised me. When she came out with never really over and daisies i was like hey I kinda dig this then the album dropped and I was like wow this was out of nowhere let me give it a listen and honestly, I liked it a lot some of my favs are tucked, cry about it later, what makes a woman. tho I still wouldn't call myself a katy perry fan, I def appreciate and acknowledge the wonderful album of smile
I adore Katy and I really like every song on this album (besides Resilient). The problem for me with this album is cohesion, from the topics of the songs to the theme of the record. To me (although I really enjoy these three songs) Champagne Problems, Tucked and Harleys in Hawaii really don't fit with the rest of the songs on the album and don't really make sense to me. Then you have the issue of the theme. Never Really Over, Small Talk and Harleys in Hawaii had a gorgeous 70's theme that I really liked. Then you have the massive contrast of Daises and Smile. Daises (the original lead single) has a really natural and stripped back theme which made me think we were going to get a super personal album that was in fact natural and stripped back. To then only be shocked by the completely random clown/circus theme that to me came out of absolutely know where. This album is full of massive missed opportunity that can only be blamed on her label. I really think Katy's droplet single era really ruined her momentum and trajectory and any excited for new music. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Never Really Over had as much promotion as Daises it would have been Katy's biggest hit since Roar/Dark Horse. Moving on from that, here's my idea of a re-vamped Smile. I think a different track list and some features could or REALLY helped this albums sucess. Tell me what you think! New album name: Resilience New track list: 1. Not the End of the World (I think this is the perfect opener for the album) 2. Cry About It Later 3. Teary Eyes 4. Resilient 5. Daises 6. Smile 7. Only Love 8. Never Worn White (I think this fits really well with the Only Love and What Makes a Woman) 9. What Makes a Woman (feat. Taylor Swift) (This could of been HUGE and I'm talking like a number 1 HUGE. I think Taylor would fit perfectly on this song) 10. Never Really Over (I Honestly think this is such a perfect closer for the album) I then would have made a side B for all of the songs that I don't think fit on the album but fit very well together. Smiles (Side B) 1. Energy (An unreleased track) 2. Champagne Problems (feat. Doja Cat) (I can really see Doja with a verse on this song and think it would have done very well on streams and radio) 3. Harleys in Hawaii 4. Tucked 5. Small Talk (feat. Charlie Puth) (I think Charlie wrote this song and that's why I can see him on it. But I also think it would give this song some much need flavour) 6. High On Your Supply I'd also stick to the 70's theme for the whole record as well - album cover, single covers and music videos included.
She was actually talented though! She was overshadow by britney and christina.also she fell into the same trap that katy did by becoming like another artist becase of her label. The only difference is katy made it out alive!
Victoria Rooks Completely 100% agree she has an amazing voice! What I ment by wannabe I ment as in how her label forced her into being another Britney Spears
Great video and review! Way better than other similar channels (Honest) who love to trash most pop artist and their albums. "Cry About it Later" and "Champagne Problems" are my favorites and are pop masterpieces in my opinion. They would be huge potential hits if they were released as singles.
I love this album, to me is perfect for this dark times and sounds so good!! I hope she release No the end of the world and Cry about it later as singles
I 100% percent think the album is so under promoted... I feel in my own conversation circles (especially during the rough times) we all miss fun, energetic, star-powered pop, and this album is it!
What really irks me about the amount of flak Smile is getting is that Kesha and Taylor Swift both put out albums (Rainbow and reputation, respectively) with a similar concept and purpose, and coming from similar experiences, three years ago, and received NO criticism for it, so it feels like a blatant double standard to me.
Idk abt kesha but if i remember correctly, the critics thrashed reputation when it came out saying things like " she's no longer relevant" "she's so full of herself" "fans dont listen to her anymore" etc etc
For your kind information reputation did received a lot of criticism and before you talk about double standards ask Katy cats to stream and buy it (which swifties do no matter what)
reputation was similar to Rainbow and Smile in that it was about Taylor's journey to happiness after hitting an extreme low point. Most of the criticism seemed to stem from people who didn't see this. Pop Dissected went into detail about this in some of their other videos.
I'm fairly indifferent to the album..katy is one of those artists that initially I dislike at least with her singles and usually come around on later so maybe i gotta wait a while..but musically just didn't have that spark that demanded my attention like her earlier hits it kinda just became background noise for me..
Gaga would always subtweet Katy back then. Katy has always doing her own thing, she’s proved that she’s a legend, and will be known as a legend as time goes on. i love her and i’m happy she’s just releasing music that’s meaningful 🖤
She's talked before about doing a dark acoustic album but I feel like the label might not want to take that risk with her. But at this point it would do more good than bad. The Gp needs to see her in a different light to be interested again or at least I think it's worth a shot
Ok so when sh went experimental back in witness yall wanted the old katy back but now yall want her to experiment more yall rlly need to figure out what yall want from her😗✌️
Yeah I feel like she should jump onto her rock sound again cause one of the boys is my fav and I also think she could really make it sound so much more mature and grown and it’s different. But not anytime soon she should focus on her personal
I love the great analysis of this video. I agree most of it. In my opinion, one of the problem of this album is the record cycle. I think the non-stop releasing of songs from 2019 affected the anticipation for the new album, theres no hype because she was just completely around on the eye of the general public without taking a break. Looking back at her droplet era, she said that she's just releasing songs cause she just want to. I think this statement of hers before affected her negatively, because the general public slowly loses interest on her as she is just releasing only a stand alone singles. She also added that this droplet era would help her to what her next but she still includes them to the album. Yeah, the 1st week album sales was really shocking, I didn't expect that too. But the low sales suffres not just because of a pandemic right now, I think the low sales was also affected by the reason that the people lost interest to the album since almost 5 or 6 songs from the record had released already. From my observation also, the album's problem also is the lack of it's cohesive theme. I think she should stick with the 70's hippy vibes that she puts when Never Really Over ✨ was released, it is very consistent to her droplet era as you can see it also to the visuals of Small Talk and Harleys in Hawaii. At that time, I was expecting that whe she dropped an album soon, the theme of it would be something like that. And also, when she released Daisies 🌼 as a lead single for this album, I was expecting too of a more personal & stripped album from her, since a lead single gives us idea of what sound or journey of the album would look like. Then she reveals the album title SMILE, like what? with a circus theme? 🤡 Pulling-off a 70's hippy vibes (also teasing with flowers image 🌼🌻) from her droplet era and to the lead single Daisies, then we switched now to a circus themed album. Although I love how Katy narrates the reason why she chooses this as an album title, for me, a circus themed would do for a smile music video, not for the whole album concept. From this observations, I can see that there's inconsistency with it's theme/path, plus the album cycle and the promotion was very messy. I really love Katy and this new album of her, I just hope that she chooses the next singles wisely as a justice to this new record, 'cause there's a lot of potential hit from this album, a hit after hit. Like the next singles would be like: Cry About It Later - September 2020 (since we still in this pandemic) Not the End of the World - December 2020 (a perfect banger track before this year end) Champagne Problems - March 2021 (I hope at this time, the pandemic is over and we're celebrating) Only Love - June 2021 (Perfect closing song and statement for the album) Just like others, I would love to see Katy back again to the main spotlight of pop music, not for the charts, but to be recognized by the general public as an artist with this masterpiece ✨❤️.
Smile is a rebound album. It's Katy coming back from the Witness era and finding her way again. Her next album has so much potential thanks to this, she's clearly still here.
I think we may be able to argue Katy's success was from these mass marketable singles. I think she wait between "PRISM" and "Witness", the reception of "Witness", the wait for "Smile" and the terrible promotion and rollout just led people to being uninterested and moving on. 😞
capitol records is blackballing katy because this is the last album in her contract with them, so they dont want her to be popping and doing well numbers wise because theyre afraid she will sign to another label and they will make more money off her
Ah okay, very interesting! That's what I've heard but I wasn't entirely sure. Pretty sad they don't want one of their most successful artists doing well.
@@popdissected4400 i could be wrong, but i read a thread on twitter that went into detail about it... it is sad, but hopefully it isnt true? if it is, i wouldnt be surprised however, because the industry is such a dark place. on another note, a trend i have seen from record labels lately is that once an artist has a "flop" era, the label stops giving them that same promotion and extra help, we have seen this with a lot of artists sadly. And lastly, i didnt think you would respond, but since you did i want to say THANK YOU and thank you for what you do! i love your channel and videos and i always enjoy watching them when they come out. Thank you for all your hard work that goes into these videos because it really means a lot to me, as a fan of pop culture myself. keep up the good work my friend! :)
I love his album and I think people shouldn’t compare to her past work she seems happy now and her hair if she goes to black then if people care then they only care for appearance
Fuck what people think, anyways Katy is having her beautiful life now and she doesn’t care anymore about being in number 01 she already proved everything to the music industry but KATY PERRY WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS
You know who Katy Perry is? The girl who got dumped on the phone 2 seconds before her concert then got up on the swing singing her song with tears coming from her eyes. She did the entire concert and put up a Smile all to entertain the people. If people won't see that they basically just want an unhappy puppet playing happy to entertain them. Smile is Katy her smile so the least people can do it have some goddamn respect.
@David Morales great use of compassion.
Talking about Taylor Swift, I'm still waiting for Reputation 2.0 a. k. a "KARMA".
Katy: *Makes TD and Prism*
The world: You need to experiment more
Katy: *Makes Witness*
The world: You’re not making hits anymore
Katy: *Makes Smile*
The world: You need to experiment more!!!
Just make an album that both critics and audiences will love to reassert herself as someone who can make amazing songs (which she’s been doing this entire time anyways) and then for KP7 she can go back into the chart topping type tracks when she’ll probably have more time/energy for promoting and touring.
chromatica was better than FN but yeah agree with the rest
J TK Personally, I didn’t really like Chromatica. The tracks were great and upbeat, but all sounded too similar to each other from my perspective. I wanted some of the upbeat hits while also maybe having a couple of mid-tempo range tracks to break them up instead of interludes.
@@booitsjohnny chromatica was a mess IMO but that’s just my opinion
@@Deasgustingisback tbh, I got really bored of the album after Rain On Me and Plastic Doll...but I totally agree with the fact that Capitol is sabotaging her, and then acting like nothing ever happened...do you know the Smile performance video? Petition to let Katy shoot an m/v that is Part Of Me pt.2 and that is Not the End of the World!
Smile has really helped me push through the end of summer and school at the moment I'm you can't imagine how much I needed this album
You and I both 😊 And that's the power of art!
Your videos are always on point, very objective, without trashing the artist. Thanks.
Thank you so much!!! ❤️
Exactly... i like how he sees both side
i didn’t like it that much at first listen but when i listened to it with an open mind and not comparing it with her previous albums i enjoyed it so much and it’s one of my favorite pop albums of the year she really deserves all the happiness in the world
She is literally THE perfect pop artist. Her music is art, her personality is adorable and fun, her lifestyle is amazing, what more is there that you'd want out of this legend?
If you look up "pop star" in the dictionary, rumor has it you're going to see a picture of her.
Pop Dissected Katy queen
I agree. She is awesome.
All great points! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has those thoughts about more "dark" songs on the record.
Well now that Not The End Of The World is a single...
I'm so sad that the album isn't doing well. She deserves better!
Kay Rikkelman she didn’t really have any publicity for it tho.. she released two “singles” for it like a year before its release and then dropped smile and the album very closely together. She doesn’t have a strong enough fan base to just drop an album out of nowhere like Taylor.
@@aaricn04 WE ARE THE KATYCATS WE NEED MORR
The roll out was messy.
1K second week wow
Kay Rikkelman She really doesn’t
Katy perry's career feels alot like Mariah Careys. A massive record breaking decade(90s) to massive fall out(glitter). Then to soft comeback(charm bracelets)to massive comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi album. Katy and Mariah have alot in common and hopefully Katy will have a "Emancipation" sized comeback. If not, as a Katykat ill be always supporting her big and small.
Very interesting comparison! Let's hope so! 😊
I hope so but also it could be xtina. She had HITS in late 90's and early 2000s then a massive fall out (bionic), a failed comeback (lotus), and an album after 6 years which also failed to gain attraction (liberation). I hope she will have mariah tho
She flops cause she is not versatile. Mediocre vocal, can not dance, trapped in bubble gum pop world.
@@i_ghi6315 at least xtina has the voice. Katy has nothing but the gowns and shoes
Mariah has talent though, not just vocally
Katy is my queen and will forever stay my queen. She’s happy, I’m happy😌
❤️ ❤️
Yeah. I remember I saw a clip of her in a car and her music wasn't even played on the radio man she's so frustrated. (witness era)
Pop Dissected oh yes! I love the sound and the feel of ‘One of the boys’. Her voice fits so well with it and her writing back then was more raw and gritty and it didn’t sound too forced. She had less song writers working with her back then and you can see the difference

As a Selenator we can not just focus on charts we have to appreciate the hard work they put into the songs and what it represents to them.
Of course as a selenator you would say that. Selena songs can barely chart since she can’t sing
All I care about is Selena being busy happy and healthy so If you think charts can affect the way I feel about this Queen you are wrong and your comments useless. Kill Em With Kindness she'll say 💙

"Smile" was indeed a promo single. Let's hope that the tracks you mentioned all become singles. They have wonderful potential.
@@popdissected4400 what??? That was a promo but we got a music video?

People just heavily underrate how artistic she is. Nobody has more music video views than Katy Perry. She is a true icon.
i have this little teory that came to my mind a while ago.. i saw the cover for smile the single and i realised she is not pragnent and has very similar hair with the style uesed in the nerver relly over cover and instantly popped in my mind that after the unexpectedly succes of never really over her label started building an ancual album and did that photoshoot and came up with the circus theme. they didn’t planned any promotion for never really over so they released small talk.. if the single picked higher in charts they could announce the album but due to the flopp that small talk was and hih never reaching billboard the album never got announced.. this leads us to daisies and the announsment if smile the album.. i am sad this alum didn’t started with the relese of nvr and her label did all these decisions but i am happy she is back and will gave us a new incredible body of work
My theory is they're trying to sabotage her seeing as this is her last album with her b4 the contract ends.

Ooh, very good point!
Considering how they are sabotaging her ("Forcing" a collab (Bon Appétit), not sending songs to radio, not supporting her, leaking her music, i think her best option would be to go to another label
@@spawn3721 after smile her contract with this label is gonna end. So I think she may go to another label
she's not going to re-sign with capitol, she had a 5 album contract.
She has been flopping non stop for years before there was a pandemic
I believe that Katy pulled the Teenage Dream strategy with this one:
- Most songs on the record crafted for radio
- Title track as the 2nd single
- A combination of all the sounds from her previous records (Experimenting with different sounds on TD)
- A very uncohesive (but dance-y) sounding record
I dunno :P
So nice that you are adding help for anyone who needs it
I know what Katy went through. I know what I've been through. It's important everyone is here for each other ❤️
I think capital records is on a good note with Katy.
Very good point about "Daisies"!
I prefer your videos so much more then certain other you tubers with similar content that tend to drag artists and prop up others. Keep up the good work!

New album name:
Resilience
New track list:
1. Not the End of the World (I think this is the perfect opener for the album)
2. Cry About It Later
3. Teary Eyes
4. Resilient
5. Daises
6. Smile
7. Only Love
8. Never Worn White (I think this fits really well with the Only Love and What Makes a Woman)
9. What Makes a Woman (feat. Taylor Swift) (This could of been HUGE and I'm talking like a number 1 HUGE. I think Taylor would fit perfectly on this song)
10. Never Really Over (I Honestly think this is such a perfect closer for the album)
I then would have made a side B for all of the songs that I don't think fit on the album but fit very well together.
Smiles (Side B)
1. Energy (An unreleased track)
2. Champagne Problems (feat. Doja Cat) (I can really see Doja with a verse on this song and think it would have done very well on streams and radio)
3. Harleys in Hawaii
4. Tucked
5. Small Talk (feat. Charlie Puth) (I think Charlie wrote this song and that's why I can see him on it. But I also think it would give this song some much need flavour)
6. High On Your Supply
I'd also stick to the 70's theme for the whole record as well - album cover, single covers and music videos included.
thats perfect

I wish she did a "joanne" type of album with more ballads showing the other side of Pop katy.
Katy is my favorite artist, and this is my favorite channel, so I know this is about to be good
Awesome video. Happy to see Katy is living her best life and making better music

Cannot get tired of Katy Perry's videos since she deserves so much more grace in her life.
I love this album, to me is perfect for this dark times and sounds so good!! I hope she release No the end of the world and Cry about it later as singles
The fact she gave birth *2 days before releasing an album* just shows how powerful she is
I 100% percent think the album is so under promoted... I feel in my own conversation circles (especially during the rough times) we all miss fun, energetic, star-powered pop, and this album is it!

This was such a perfect comeback
Katy's new album deserves so much more praise and popularity. It has so many great jammable songs. 💕💕💕💕💕
Rainbow was an excellent album that showed a completely different side of her though, can’t have a double standard if there’s no valid comparison
For your kind information reputation did received a lot of criticism and before you talk about double standards ask Katy cats to stream and buy it (which swifties do no matter what)
reputation did receive a lot of criticism and it was not similar to anything..
reputation is a record which is still being talked about.
reputation was similar to Rainbow and Smile in that it was about Taylor's journey to happiness after hitting an extreme low point. Most of the criticism seemed to stem from people who didn't see this. Pop Dissected went into detail about this in some of their other videos.
Totally.
Btw, I like your content & ❤️ your channel 🥺
I'm fairly indifferent to the album..katy is one of those artists that initially I dislike at least with her singles and usually come around on later so maybe i gotta wait a while..but musically just didn't have that spark that demanded my attention like her earlier hits it kinda just became background noise for me..
I can understand that!

Gaga would always subtweet Katy back then. Katy has always doing her own thing, she’s proved that she’s a legend, and will be known as a legend as time goes on. i love her and i’m happy she’s just releasing music that’s meaningful 🖤
Katy Perry is so unbothered by the stupid critics and negativity and I'm here for it. Also, Resilient and Not The End Of The World are amazing.
A hard pill to swallow but I agree with everything you said! I love Katy so much and wish her nothing but happiness and success and health.

What a lovely video! You are such a nice young man. I love your videos and I love Katy Perry
Katy needs a Joanne or Folklore type of album, she isn’t growing as an artist, but as long as she’s happy I guess
She’s a mother now, so I guess this album was just made for fun and for the fans.
She's talked before about doing a dark acoustic album but I feel like the label might not want to take that risk with her. But at this point it would do more good than bad. The Gp needs to see her in a different light to be interested again or at least I think it's worth a shot
Shayne McCatty I agree, she’s playing it safe and that ultimately gonna keep her as a laughing stock unfortunately
Like the next singles would be like:
Cry About It Later - September 2020 (since we still in this pandemic)
Not the End of the World - December 2020 (a perfect banger track before this year end)
Champagne Problems - March 2021 (I hope at this time, the pandemic is over and we're celebrating)
Only Love - June 2021 (Perfect closing song and statement for the album)
Just like others, I would love to see Katy back again to the main spotlight of pop music, not for the charts, but to be recognized by the general public as an artist with this masterpiece ✨❤️.
thank you for this
Smile is a rebound album. It's Katy coming back from the Witness era and finding her way again. Her next album has so much potential thanks to this, she's clearly still here.
I’ve never considered her an album artist so I feel like her strengths aren’t showed off but it’s still amazing
I agree honestly! I see much more as a singles artist. But I do feel she really was able to pull it off with this record, and "PRISM".
@@popdissected4400 ya those were her best!
You spelled all the tea
I love everything you said
sadly, the album only sold 50,000 copies in its first week and I can't help but wonder, where are all her KatyCats??
I think we may be able to argue Katy's success was from these mass marketable singles. I think she wait between "PRISM" and "Witness", the reception of "Witness", the wait for "Smile" and the terrible promotion and rollout just led people to being uninterested and moving on. 😞
Pop Dissected yeah, you're right 😩
I hope she is happy. Love her.
capitol records is blackballing katy because this is the last album in her contract with them, so they dont want her to be popping and doing well numbers wise because theyre afraid she will sign to another label and they will make more money off her
Ah okay, very interesting!
@@minimalistvlogger3467 can you give me the tweet?
The will never be another teenage dream and that’s okay ! 💕✨
Finally
I was waiting
Such a great break down of this album
Thank you!!
I love his album and I think people shouldn’t compare to her past work she seems happy now and her hair if she goes to black then if people care then they only care for appearance
Finally, a positive review! All of the hate against smile is not justified at all.
katy perry is so amazing
Yesss!
Katy is back.
This Time.
Finally the one person who can truly understand how an artist fees💌💌
Regardless, she's very talent and I love her. I'm happy she is in a good place now
Me too!
thank you forbur opinion! it's not chart that matters it's the art itself
Fuck what people think, anyways Katy is having her beautiful life now and she doesn’t care anymore about being in number 01 she already proved everything to the music industry but KATY PERRY WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS
Perfectly said !!!
😃 ❤️
You know who Katy Perry is? The girl who got dumped on the phone 2 seconds before her concert then got up on the swing singing her song with tears coming from her eyes. She did the entire concert and put up a Smile all to entertain the people. If people won't see that they basically just want an unhappy puppet playing happy to entertain them. Smile is Katy her smile so the least people can do it have some goddamn respect.
I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Katy Perry
Best and really the only unbaises review
Thank you so much!
I hope Katy's KP6 will be a Chromatica for her. I hope she's not done yet. Capitol better listen to fans.
You've learned a lot from Katy Perry haven't you? And you are sharing that with many people. 💕😊
Yes I have 😊
