Honestly I think this era had A LOT of potential. However, I think with Covid, being pregnant, and coming off of Witness it was already stacked against her. I think her next era she needs to perform on TV, get put on playlists, get sent to radio, and release music videos at the same time as the single and she’ll be good

Since Katy Perry’s Capitol Records debut in 2008 with One of the Boys, she has racked up a cumulative 50 billion streams alongside worldwide sales of over 48 million adjusted albums and 135 million tracks with her albums One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, PRISM and Witness. Her summer 2019 single, “Never Really Over,” off her latest album SMILE, is certified PLATINUM and was the biggest streaming launch of Katy’s musical career. 2020’s SMILE release has sold over 1.25 million adjusted albums, with nearly 2 Billion combined streams to date. Views of her 2013 video “Roar” recently surpassed three billion views - making Katy the first female artist to reach this milestone, while “Dark Horse” is close behind with over 2.9 billion views. Katy was also the first female artist to have four videos surpass a billion views each. Her videos for “Firework” and “Last Friday Night” have over one billion views. Katy’s 2015 Super Bowl performance is the highest rated in the event’s history. She is one of only five artists in history to have topped 100 million certified units with their digital singles - and the first-ever Capitol Records recording artist to join the elite RIAA 100 Million Certified Songs club.
Aside from being one of the best-selling musical artists of all time, Katy is an active advocate of many philanthropic causes. In 2013, Katy was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador because of her commitment to improving the lives of children worldwide. From traveling to Vietnam and Madagascar to highlight the needs of some of the world’s most vulnerable children, to empowering girls and supporting adolescents living with HIV/AIDS, as well as raising awareness for UNICEF’s emergency relief efforts, Katy has used her powerful voice to advocate for children and support UNICEF’s mission to ensure every child’s right to health, education, equality, and protection. She was awarded with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award in 2016.

Katy has also been a champion for LGBTQ+ equality. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Trevor Project's Hero Award in 2012, the Human Rights Campaign's National Equality Award in 2017, and amfAR’s Award of Courage in 2018. She has also performed at various events to raise funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS, including 2009's Life Ball and 2016's amfAR Cannes Gala.

It's all Capitol's fault , it seems like they really can't adapt to the streaming era and they are still using old ways of promo , nowadays you can just put song on playlists and give it radio play then it can become a hit . I believe that katy is still obviously a big name in the industry but she definently needs to change her label if she wants to have a big comeback

Smile definitely flopped. But like not due to lack of quality really. For me it was just “too little too late”. If Never Really Over was the lead in single of her 2017 comeback, followed be Harleys In Hawaii, and Cry About It Later, Smile would would have smashed, but after devastating Witness PR, Smile wasn’t enough in 2020. Witness really fucked up her public image. I think Smile and American Idol and her baby helped repair some damage, but I think the next album is going to be crucial for her. I’m hoping for a Britney Spears style comeback like she had with Femme Fatale.

In the message she stated that she worked on smile not with a formal record in mind, just an album that she can come back to when she feels bad, and that can help her remember that she got through many dark times, and that she CAN get through it. I think that smile is a more personal album to her, and i love it so much

I did not know that as Taylor Swift released 2 albums around the same time with quarantine covid 19 restrictions on basically the same label which is UMG, Universal Music Group the biggest label in America if not the world as Capitol are just a branch office now, and she got a Grammy for the record breaking albums. All my promotional emails, merch etc came with UMG on it and here in the UK, the most important media country in the world. We had Katy on our Radios, State TV and our major TV chat shows, label emails and Katy was really at it on social media where the Katycats had #smile trending on Twitter and Facebook. Katy has 109 million followers on Twitter, 40 million on Facebook and live streamed on Instagram where she has 110 million followers, giving us Katycats snippets on Sunday Salutations live as Katy herself also became the highest paid US TV star and saved the ratings of the failing American Idol, making it the number one rated TV show in America. The whole world knew of its release but where her label topped it was there is a new delivery system for music today and that is streaming, digital downloads and you tube. But number 5 and out of the Billboard 200 was not a flop as you will see later: - Bio: Katy Perry

Ever since Witness Katy has the worst singles choice ever
Chained by the Rhythm was a solid first single BUT Witness should be release as the 2nd single instead of that joke Bon Appetit lol and Swish Swish is fine as 3rd single but Roulette should be the single that closed out the Witness era such wasted potential and maybe it won't flop so hard
Smile era is the most painful flop; Never Really Over has so much potential to be a summer radio hit in 2019 but she didn't promote it at all and Daisies should release as the 2nd single quickly instead of Small Talk eww and Cry About It Later as the 3rd single when the album release in 2019 maybe feature Cardi B on a remix or something lol

why would she release the worst and most boring songs of the album to build the hype for the album? those songs she released are the only once I skip when listening to the album. and it's sad because all other songs on the album are hits besides those that were released as singles.

''Having numbers ones and chart success doesn't interest me anymore...' LOL I remember Katy saying this after tons and tons of promotion and desperately trying to crack the top 10 at all costs. Instead of wondering why the public may not be supporting her anymore (for example saying horrible things about Britney Spears mental health and acting like the Queen of Pop and an icon ) she went down the route of... 'Well I don't care about numbers anymore I am above that!'... Sigh. Oh dear. I am just pleased she does not care about chart success and numbers anymore because she has not been charting well for soooooooo long and Electric did not even crack the charts. But as long as she is happy and humbled, that is what matters.

@@sobhanamini3776 Oh come on :) Do you really think she wants to not chart anymore? She wants to stay relevant musically and that means having worldwide hits. Her team invest huge $$$$ in trying to help her return to the top of the charts. Yes she has a great history but to repeatedly not chart and not have a major hit in years is not good. She of course wants a massive hit. Who wouldn't?

  • @LP-ct9nk

It flopped. She as an artist has been flopping for some time now too and would need to undergo a massive sound change (that was good) to get the public’s attention. Modern pop now is also more beats driven and if you don’t have a song that is the content is at least edgy. Katy has never really been able to convince the public she can do both successfully
It also doesn’t help that the pop music landscape is now filled with artists who can sing, dance, and perform shows with large production values/couture moments. Katy is not a strong dancer, her performances aren’t really memorable for the best reasons (left shark anyone), and her kind of camp is goofy and silly. Modern day fans don’t care that she has a great voice because they can find someone who does the same AND perform.
