What Made Katy Perry's "PRISM" So Successful?

- Today, we’re going to be talking Katy Perry’s third studio record, "PRISM" and how she soared to new heights with the record, seemingly impossible after the immense of "Teenage Dream". Celebrating 7 years of release this past week, we’re going to see how Katy Perry was able to leverage her popularity for another 2 year record cycle, and craft a record that serves as the crown jewel of her discography.
From aggressive promotion, endless performances, the stunning Prismatic World Tour and the Super Bowl, there is so much that made this era just as successful as "Teenage Dream". In this video, we'll discuss how the "PRISM" era began, and the way Katy found new ways to approach her music.
Though seen as her prime by some, including myself, Katy Perry has proved herself time and time again, even with the critically lukewarm "Witness" and "Smile". So, let's take a journey and enjoy the video!

I'm still waiting for 'Legendary Lovers' as a single...
We all are 😭
LMAOOO
Secret = Katheryn Hudson will not release legendary lovers ever as she wrote it for me then arrived in my life as my girlfriend in hiding in Kent, England and all over the private social media accounts she uses briefly in May 2014 but after a while she wanted sex and I not only refused but kicked Katy out my door so Katy so upset that I had turned down her offer told me she would never be able to release legendary lovers so had to chose Unconditionally instead.
@@phoebusapollo4865 Wth r u talking 'bout?-
Edit: U're just joking dude, lol.
Legendary Lovers should've been a Single 😭
I will never understand why Unconditonally didnt hit #1 in Billboard...I mean its lyrics and video are amazing
True 😩 !
@@popdissected4400 It had good promotion but a bad rollout. It was released as a single almost the same day as the album, so it kinda overshadowed it, plus roar was still very strong at the time
Dark horse outshined
@@scottiedelacruz5021 Yes, i remember to in november 2013, the radios started to playing ''Dark Horse'' and gained a huge airplay without a released in a official single (because it's was a promotional only single before of her released in official single), and this song eclipsed ''Unconditionally''. And the song peaked the top 40 in US charts only because of radios and without released in official single at debut of december 2013, incited the record company to released this song in a official single. And the song peaked n.1 without to have any music video. The music video was released only at the end of february, when she was at her fourth weeks in n.1 in US.
@@CarloosGamez nowadays album release is how you push the single e.g. "need to know" or "break up with you girlfriend"
I know this sounds dramatic, but Prism literally helped save my life. In 2017, after four and a half years, my long time, live-in partner cheated and subsequently left me for that other person. In moments of desperation and weakness I strongly considered taking my own life. I was left alone, disillusioned, humiliated and heartbroken with no one to turn to for guidance, and began a period of severe disassociation that still effects me to this day. Katy has always been my favorite artist, but rediscovering PRISM and songs such as Unconditionally, Ghost, Love Me, This Moment, It Takes Two and most importantly By The Grace of God during this time of crisis cemented her to me as a forever beacon of hope that I can turn to for inspiration whenever I need to. In some ways I am still here because of Katy’s contribution to music with this album, and I will never be able to repay her for that. She didn’t abandon me when I needed help, so I’ll never abandon her.
By The Grace of God is one of the most honest and humanizing songs I have ever heard a pop star release, and its relatable lyrics of not thinking you’re enough as you’re laying on the bathroom floor telling yourself you get up....but you just *can’t,* is something I’ve also gone though. The fact that she shared that vulnerable moment with us really made me think “if Katy Perry can survive this with millions of people watching her, then I think I can, too.” If I ever meet her I want to hug her and tell her that.
Thank you for this video. Fantastic as always.
Oh honey, I’m so happy for you. You have incredible courage and strength to share us your story. This is how music truly impacts people. This was so beautiful to read, because I share the same feelings with other records as well, including this one. ❤️
Your words brought me to tears. I am so sorry you had to go through those things. No one deserves that. I am so proud of you for finding strength. For continuing to put one foot in front of the other. You are strong as hell, know that! You've overcome something very difficult, and guess what? You are now wiser, better off, and have a newfound power. These moments of weakness and desperation show us just how strong we are. I am so happy to hear how Katy has impacted you. This is why music is so important, it's a beacon of hope for so many people who may not have it. I hope one day you can meet her, and you can share your resilience with her. ❤️
@@popdissected4400 thank you for listening!
@@CarlDillynson Anytime, friend!
Prism was such a bastion of Katy's ability. She could make pop dominating singles, slow heartbreak ballards, and creative experiments like Dark Horse. Such a shame she isn't as popular nowadays, one of the most gifted artists.
Exactly! I think "PRISM" really showcased the range of her abilities in so many ways.
If she work with Dr.Luke like Doja still do, she will top the charts again
@@RyanlovesTh She could work with Zedd or Calvin Harris again. Love the two songs she did with them!
@@_ttnxo i agree ! But they are more focused on Edm music and Katy's production used to be very original and her work with Max and Dr.luke were so interresting
@@RyanlovesTh I wouldn’t call Never Really Over, 365 and Feels EDM music lol. I really think she should work with other producers not just Max Martin. And I doubt she’ll work Dr.Luke again after that court incident.
Describing Prism as “waking up from her teenage dream” is such a good way of describing it, especially with Wide Awake being the last single from TD, and with the albums more stripped down aesthetic and retrospective themes
Yess! I totally agree
When you said unconditionally was her first single not to peak in the top 3 I was shook. I already knew it didn't (deserved top 10) but to hear it said that way is crazy. Her charting power use to be insane!
I love Prism it's my favorite and I think her best album. Teenage Dream has the hits but Prism has such a nice blend of fun and maturity like you said. I love the theme of finding hope after despair.
I'm also a strong believer in dark horse being a double-edged sword to her career.
I totally agree to literally all of this! "Dark Horse" definitely was great for her, but also harmed her in away. I was pretty shocked to literally say out loud "Unconditionally" was her first single in 3 years to miss the Top 10. Like...whoa! She really was a chart master back in the day.
Sad because Ghost and Walking on Air no released as singles!!!
Ugh, yes!!! I would have loved to see "Ghost" and "Walking on Air"!
“Walking On Air” and “Legendary Lovers” are 2/3 of the Holy Trinity of songs Katy didn’t release as official singles that her fans wanted her to. (The third song if “Roulette” off of “Witness” (album) btw lol)
Honestly, every song from Prism could be a single.
Wait I only just realised why the album is called PRISM. Because it’s her 3rd album and prisms are always associated with the number 3.
And prisms reflect light into vibrant colors of the rainbow 🌈 ✨
It's called prism cause in prismatic light black (darkness) reflects out all the colors (the light). Which is symbolic to what her message with the album was
@@popdissected4400 oh yeahhh that’s so clever :)
@@finntetley6818 Very much so! Definitely think her "concept" was to be a prism and reflect that light out with her music! 😊
@@2sdm8 YES! 👏
Unconditionally definitely wasn't meant for major radio success. Katy wanted it to be a gift to her fans for sticking by her and making Roar so successful
Oh yes, true, true!
@Nameless No she had to release Unconditionally or Legendary Lover and will never release Legendary Lover because she wrote it for me then I refused sex with her and kicked her out my house and she was disgusted with herself.

@@tobiasburrell6055 Sorry I am Katheryn's twin flame and that was way back in 2014
Katy Perry's songs have longevity thats why Roar and Darkhorse are among the most viewed songs on RUclips by female artist, other artist may produce hits but won't surpass Katy. For instance Bon appetite wasn't received well on BB100 but over the years it did well on RUclips and now has over 1B views.
Agreed!
Yes katy Perry's songs longevity is insane. I just wish that she as herself would be longevity just like her songs
Legendary lovers should have been a single that song is a hit
This is when we knew Katy would start ignoring hits 😭
her team makes the worst choices ALWAYS or maybe katy just really already didnt care about charts back then lmaoooo
I heard drake was rumored 2 be featured if released at the time!
She said in a interview this year that she was going to release it as the next single but chose Unconditionally instead.
Walking on air and Legendary lovers are SOO GOOD
We’re living for the constant stream of content
In a super creative jam currently 😂 I hope I can keep it consistent, I'm glad you appreciate it ❤️
I remember when she was going to drop Roar and Lady Gaga was going to drop applause almost the same day. Katy cats and Little Monsters were fighting. I was 14 incredible how the time pass so quickly 😂😂😂😂.
Omg, I was 14 too 😂 I will never forget the WAR that went on! That was a crazy time to be alive!
@@popdissected4400hahahah I remember that very well, I don't understand why Katy cats and Little Monsters are fighting all of the time.
@@hamletvillilo6838 It was CRAZY 😭 Like, the carnage that ensued. I hate to admit it, but I definitely participated in all that drama.
@@popdissected4400 well in my case I was in the middle because I like Lady and Katy 😂😂😂😂😂 so I have stay calm down when there's drama between Katy cats and Little Monsters 😂😂😂
I didn’t get why people were comparing them. I was a big fan of both, and was sad that G. U. Y and the entire Artpop album underperformed.
Prism is still Katy’s best album.
It’s an empowering, mystical, positive, and inspiring masterpiece.
Though it could've receive more recognition and success than Teenage Dream if Legendary Lovers, Walking On Air, and International Smile were chosen as singles instead of Birthday and This is How We Do.
The second half of the album is some of her best, filled with emotional, inspirational, and positive messages in Love Me, This Moment, and By the Grace of God.
The duality of of the empowering, mystical, happy, and positive first half and the inspiring, uplifting, and mature second half is what makes it perfect for me.
I totally agree! I think Katy wanted to release "Birthday" before she went on tour, and likely didn't mind how it performed considering "Dark Horse" was still going strong. She released several singles off "Teenage Dream" while touring, so I'm sure she could have done it again for the Prismatic World Tour. I would have loved to see those tracks as singles, and honest "By the Grace of God" as well. I remember when she performed it at the 2015 Grammys, I thought it was going to be sent to radio.
Walking on Air was Katys favorite off the album :) should have been a real single!
It really should have. If I was looking at the record solely as a commercial prospect, I'd have released "Roar", "Walking on Air", "Dark Horse" - let the track run out it's success, and then "Legendary Lovers" with maybe "Ghost" or "International Smile" as the final single.
prism has so many catchy songs that make it my favourite album by her! she nailed that album. i also went to the prismatic world tour and it was the greatest concert i’ve ever been too!!!!
Yesss! I saw her live on that tour twice, once it in the pit 😱 It was so amazing!
Birthday was the only bad single. LL or BTGOG should have been singles. But my fave was International Smile.
I would have LOVEEEED both of those tracks as singles!
Birthday is not a bad single, it just had a bad video
Tihwd was the worst one, It should've been replaced with WOA, It Takes Two, Double Rainbow or LL.(most likely LL)
International smile is that song ✨
I heard that some people found “birthday”inappropriate due to it’s lyrics.
It is also worth mentioning that in the second half of 2013 there was like a POP EXPLOSION - literally, almost every single main arist at that time was releasing a new album or a single and there was a strong competition - Lady Gaga with Applause single and her album ARTPOP (possibly the most awaited comeback right after Katy Perry), Miley Cyrus with her R&B-infused singles, album and a whole NEW and CONTROVERSIAL PERSONA, Lorde with her pop challenging masterpiece Pure Heroine and smash singles such as Royals, Team and Tennis Court, Beyonce with her surprise visual album and even Britney Spears with her Work, Lana Del Rey with Summertime Sadness Remix and Robin Thicke with his annoying earworm 'Blurred Lines'... And the list goes on and on... And she managed to outshine almost every single one of them with her singles, sales and performances... Gosh, I've just realised that 2013 was a great moment in pop music - possibly the last time we saw such an intense competition between artists and such innovative ways to promote records - right now it feels very simplified with a streaming and stuff - there's almost no promotion, you just drop a single or 2 weeks before releasing an album and album's release is almost like a finish line of an era and record cycle...
YES! 👏 2013 was one of the biggest moments in the industry. I remember it so well, it was so iconic.
Dear Pop Dissected, I loved your analysis of Prism. It's one of my all-time favorite albums, and I grew with this album, so that was fascinating and interesting to listen to your rich analysis of the album and era.
In addition I wanted to say that I love your videos and you're my favorite pop music analyser on RUclips. thank you for putting your heart and hard work into each and every video, it is highly appreciated and loved! ♥
Also, I thought It'd be lovely to share some subjects that might be interesting to cover in the future:
*Why didn't Jessie J make it in the US?
*What went wrong with Avril Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby?
*Why didn't Marina (used to be known as Marina and the Diamonds) ever make it in the US?
*The Future of Ava Max
*What Makes Pop Stars Miss a Debut on The Billboard Hot 100? (for example, all Kesha's High Road singles, Avril Lavigne's Head Above Water singles except the album title track, Katy Perry's Smile singles except Daisies and Never Really Over, Britney Spears' most of Britney album singles, etc...)
*Demi Lovato's Hidden Potential to become a main pop star.
All the love! :)
Thank you so much for your support and kind words! I appreciate that so much! You're so wonderful. 😃 And I love all these ideas, especially the one about the Hot 100. I usually look at external factors, but I'd love to learn how the charts ACTUALLY works - sales, streams, points, and so on.

Teenage Dream and Prism are a blessing and a curse to Katy’s career because first of all it is a blessing since it proved the power of katy perry to be one of the best selling female artist of all time but a curse because people always compare her albums and expect the same outcome for every album she releases to have the same crazy success of teenage dream or prism
I agree. I think Katy just peaked so early in her career in an unprecedented way, and a lot of people expected her to follow that up continually. All you can do is find new areas of your career to succeed in 🤷♀️ It can't be redone.
PRISM aid my fave !!! 😁
Sameeeee!
Prism is her BEST cohesive work. Unconditionally is forever one of her best songs! I definitely think Roar and Dark Horse overshadowed the entire album...which for a fan like me was a huge disappointment because the entire record is SO GOOD! Double Rainbow anyone!? I mean come on!
I totally agree!!

Could you please do a video on why Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" was so successful?
I'm adding it to my long....long....list of videos 😆
Dark Horse was THE single that was foretelling of the kind of music we hear in the present! Such a gift this era brought and only shot Katy up to new heights!
Your videos are always awesome! You seem like such a cute and sweet guy 😘
Thank you so much, I appreciate it ❤️
Although this album is amazing... I genuinely think Witness is still my favorite, her songs are so deep and very meaningful ✨😌
Totally love so many tracks off "Witness"!
I honestly thing that affected her was her single choices. I felt that this album could have been more successful than it currently is. I felt that the singles should have been:
1. Roar
2. Legendary Lovers
3. Dark Horse
4. Birthday
5. Unconditionally
6.Ghost
Legendary Lovers would have kept up with the momentum of Roar and I felt that Unconditionally release felt too similar for teenage dream.
These a great picks! I think I would have done...
1. "Roar"
2. "Walking on Air"
3. "Dark Horse"
4. "Legendary Lovers"
5. "Unconditionally"
6. "International Smile"
7. "Ghost"
8. "By The Grace of God".
"WOA" would have been a nice success following "Roar" that wouldn't have the immense power of being too popular and overshadow other releases, but it would have continued the success of the track. "DH" would roll out as normal, with "LL" as a worthy follow up in the late summer / early fall of 2014. "Unconditionally" likely would then come out in the late winter of 2014 or even of early 2015, with "IS" in the spring, "Ghost" in the late summer (which makes 0 sense as a ballad) and "BTGOG" in the late fall of 2015.
PRISM is a spiritual experience. Such a masterpiece. ☀️🌈 ✨
I totally agree 💕
LISTEN TO ME! I will never shut my mouth how beautiful the music video for "Unconditionally" is !!!! Her most incredible music video of all time I was so sad that people were not given what this song deserves ! Unconditionally is that girl !
I totally agree!!!!
This album is a huge time travel for me. It greatly associates some of the most important parts of my life.
Me too! That's crazy how music is so special to people like that.
We can all agree that Walking On Air and Legendary Lovers would 100% her 10th and 11th #1 song if these songs were singles
Like, literally, Honestly, I could see both of them hitting the Top 10, with "WOA" maybe being in the #4 - #9 range, whereas "LL" I could see in the #1 - #5 range.
I think it was successful cause it was like Teenage Dream but to a whole nother level.
It was the LAST era that had the orginal Katy with her signature and beautiful black hair
Missing blackty 🙏
PRISM is my favourite álbum
Mine as well!
E.T.,California Gurls and i think Teenage Dream and Hot N Cold are all diamonds eligible😍
She really is coming for blood.
PRISM has a special place in my heart. Her second best album after smile (Cuz smile has 0 skips)
Period 😊
i’ve thought about it and i think PRISM is my favorite katy album tbh...
It's definitely my fave!
Walking On Air is still one of my favorite songs from Katy's discography. It's so catchy and I love how it romanticizes sex and defines "making love" as if it was a Renaissance painting. I absolutely love WOA and I still listen to it on repeat to this day. I loved Prism for it's aesthetics and of course I have to give credit to Katy's constant inspirational music because it got me through high school AND college. I actually bought the album and gave it the love it deserved for a few years. Listening back now, it doesn't really suit the music tastes I have now, but I still love this era for what it gave.

My opinion: PRISM is Katy's best album (at least in terms of cohesion and consistency). I also think some of the disco-inspired songs like Birthday and International Smile was ahead of its time (considering the 80s synth-pop and 70s disco revival of 2020). My favorite songs are Birthday, Walking On Air, International Smile, Unconditionally, This Moment, and It Takes Two.

Witness underperformed compared to her Teenage Dream and Prism, while Smile flopped so bad. I'm hoping for KP6 as her mark for return to prominence.
I think with the right approach, which is very much objective, KP6 could fall in between "Smile" and "Witness" for opening week sales. But honestly, unless we get a tour, the "Smile" era has pretty much come and gone for the most part. KP6 in 2024 😍😍

Oh 2013. Prism, ARTPOP, Born To Die (Paradise Edition), Bangerz & Beyoncé. What a year!
Right!!?
Paradise Edition was released in November 2012
Her Superbowl performance is my FAVORITE STILLLLL!!
I consider Prism to be what I refer to as a “Lucky album.” This is my term for an album that I like every single track on for one reason or another (although some may certainly rank as higher than others).
The name comes from the 2004 album ‘Lucky’ by Melissa Etheridge, which was the very first album I can consciously recall enjoying every single track too. There were some earlier releases which I would consider Lucky albums today, but Melissa started this trend for me.
A list of Lucky albums in no particular order (and not saying what years they came out):
Lucky - Melissa Etheridge (the album that started it all, and still my favorite album of all time)
Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion Soundtrack (I first heard this 1999 release in 2001 and I still love it today)
Elton John’s The Road To El Dorado Soundtrack (possibly one of the greatest soundtracks to a movie ever released; I know the movie wasn’t the most well received, but the album by Elton is absolute gold)
The Green World - Dar Williams (Dar is my favorite songwriter of all time)
Born This Way - Lady GaGa (despite the fact I consider myself a loyal Little Monster, this is so far the only album by Mother Monster to earn my Lucky album award)
Prism - Katy Perry (I honestly didn’t think much of her prior to this to be honest, and I thought her live vocals sucked; that being said, my opinion changed drastically with Prism and unfortunately she has not been able to impress me to the same level with any of her subsequent albums)
The Truth About Love - P!nk (although I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for P!nk, this was in my opinion, her last truly good album, with Hurts 2B Human managing to impress me enough, but not nearly to the extent that this album did)
The Original High - Adam Lambert (I think his debut album is more fun, but there’s just something I enjoy a bit more about the moodier feel to Original High)
Cinematic - Owl City (yes Adam Young has more songs than Fireflies, and this one is absolutely chock full of beautiful and touching music that was really the first time the music actually felt autobiographical, and not just abstract as Young’s earlier work did)
Folklore - Taylor Swift (I have a strong appreciation for folk pop and so this is actually my favorite Taylor Swift record; I’ve actually never heard Evermore all the way through, although I’ve meant too)
So that’s all the Lucky albums I can think of for now. If you want to look any of them up feel free. They should all be available on iTunes.
Having chills all over the body ! Is it just me ?

I like Birthday. Also why does no-one talk about “By The Grace Of God”. That is the best ballad on the album in my opinion (unless you count Ghost).
I think what made it successful was that, it was a really good album. it was a lot more authentic than her first two albums, and except for the deluxe version, the only bad song on prism is this is how we do. legendary lovers, walking on air, double rainbow, ghost, by the grace of god, international smile, it takes two, are all some of her best works, also the singles. should have one pop vocal album over in the lonely hour.
Yes, i hear hater of ''This is How We Do'' a really bad song and a skip. but except that, it's was a very excellent album. THe first half (1-8) was more radio-friendly and more commercial and it's was a good selection for the released in single, while in the last half, the tone changed totally and was more emotional, intimate, confesionnal and personal and the last half was only ballads. This is not a album oriented for the dance like ''Teenage Dreams''.
I hope you can do E=MC2 by Mariah Carey on how the album deserve more success if ByeBye wasn't the second album 😊🙏
I'd love to! Just so you know, I'm overloaded with many ideas, so it may be a while for I get to it.
30th most certified artist ever? thats crazy. deserved
I love this channel. Honest critic. Love you
Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
Can u talk about Dr Luke impact on the industry and still impacts! Katy was his biggest partner and they made amazing hits
While I think it's a very interesting idea to discuss music producers and the role they have in the industry, I don't really want to give Dr. L a platform honestly.
Prism is Katy Perry's best album! I still think the song Legendary Lovers, Walking On Air and International Smile, should've a single.
Totally agree!
Dr Luke is the exact answer.
Okay, we can solely credit a man for a woman's achievements I guess 🤷♀️
Just curious is there any legitimate theories as to why Katy hasn’t won a Grammy?
The only thing I've heard, which I can't even validate, is she got in a fight with a member of the Recording Association back in 2008/9? I don't even know if that actually happened however. I can't even explain it myself other than the industry is blackballing her for no reason. Using her name for hype and promo, but without actually awarding her. They did it to Kesha when they nominated her for "Praying" and "Rainbow", but that's a different story.
@@popdissected4400 sounds like it could be true, something similar happened with Nicki too I think?
The Wikipedia page for Katy's discography says Dark Horse "wasn't allowed" to enter the Australian charts. Does anyone know why?
I looked it up, and this was the official source for this claim, and I still have no idea why;
"Hopefully EMI/Universal will allow Katy Perry’s long-charting (and now high flying) track “Dark Horse” track to finally hit the Top 100, as it’s been on the digital charts since its initial release in September of 2013, and now with her many shows for November and it’s high-profile clip doing the rounds, I personally think it’s time to let the Dark Horse on the chart-track (pun intended), as at the moment the track would enter within the Top 15."
@@popdissected4400 That explained absolutely nothing. Thanks, though.
YES!!! FINALLY PRISM ERA VID!!!!
Hope you enjoyed 💕
it's my favorite album from hers, I just think the rollout could've been way better. I would choose as singles and the order to be
1. Roar
2. This Is How We Do
3. Legendary Lovers
the album release, without any single
4. Dark Horse
5. Walking On Air
6. Unconditionally
7. Birthday
8. International Smile
9. Ghost
a lot of singles but it's just one more than what Teenage Dream had
first single in July 2013, releasing the album in November or early December, and last single in early 2015.
your opinion is really good actually, thank you for being true and showing all the areas of the work the good and the bas
I appreciate that! Thank you so much!
Amazing take on Katy Perry's Prism. Love this videos. Appreciate your hard work and dedication. Love that. 💜💜💜💜💜
By the way, a favour,, can you make a video on why male pop star are fading. I mean Only Justin Beiber somehow manages to be on top of all.
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! And that's a really good idea, thank you for suggesting.
Love KP! Thanks for making this video! Can you plz do something about Shakira? I'm a HUGE fan and she has an incredible discography!!
I'm glad you enjoyed! I'd love to make a video on Shakira! I'm overloaded with many suggestions, but I promise I'll try my best!
@@popdissected4400 Thanks for putting her on the list! Happy to share resources/good interviews/key performances/etc. if it'd help once you get to it. She's incredible!! :)
Please do a video on Christina Aguilera' albums, Back To Basics and Stripped
I'll do my best, I have so many idea suggestions. But just know, I hear you! 😃
@@popdissected4400 thank You so much, I love your videos, Hi from Bolivia
@@davidpenaingaroca5202 Thank you so much!! You're so kind!
It’s my least favourite Katy album (it’s still amazing) but her success was shocking, she over shadowed unconditionally with roar and dark horse showed to be a very organic hit. I wish the acoustic or darker album was released to see her mindset and her just being raw, I hope we get the acoustic album one day. Also dark horse overshadowed the other singles and likely was the reason for her “downfall”, it overexposed her a lot.
Very interesting points you make, and I can't disagree! "Dark Horse" really was a huge hit that sustained itself throughout the era, and with so much "go, go, go" and more singles, I think this over exposure may have hurt her, as opposed to the "Teenage Dream" era where it helped her a lot. I'm still hoping for a darker record, but I doubt we'll see that. I would say an acoustic record would be likely for sure though!
She got a MTV unplugged album back in 2009. Check it out!
Katy hinted that her next album will have a similar sound to What Makes a Woman, so maybe it’s coming? 🤞🏻
Can you do a video of Nicki’s best era? And go through the rest of her albums?
Absolutely. I get many requests, so I can't promise I'll have it done immediately.
@@popdissected4400 thank you!
@@huntress_for_bratz Of course!
my 2nd favorite album by her
(1st is witness)
Glad to see "PRISM" is up there in your top 2!
Finally someone who give credit to Witness..I mean witness isn't my favorite album but I don't think that is bad as the people say
I loved Teenage Dream so much 😭😭
Please, take a dive into Tove Lo’s career and why do u think she is so underrated?
Great idea!
Yessss 😭✨✨
PLEASE she is so talented...sunshine kitty deserved better!!!
Can you review Born this way by Lady Gaga?
Yup! I'm on it, I just have a ton of videos I'm going through currently, so I promise I'll get to it ❤️
Thank you so much
Prism is probably my favourite album from Katy Perry... I'm not a huge fan of Dark Horse though. I love Unconditionally and Birthday and This Is How We Do way more
I absolutely love Unconditionally. What are your thoughts about this track and maybe even why her ballads don't seem to resonate?
Prism is my favourite Katy Perry album
Sammmme!
I swear every guy who does commentary videos and doesn't show his face has this same exact voice 💀
I - 😭 let's not
I am curious what your thoughts are on this wave of EPs that Katy's team are releasing recently like "Camp Katy" and "Scorpio SZN"
I don't have all that much to say on it. My best guess is it's a way to promote tracks off "Smile" by wrapping them up with her older, more popular hits so "Smile" tracks will get more exposure. That's my only reasoning for it - because otherwise she could have just made a normal playlist? Taylor Swift did the same thing with "folklore" by turning the album into "chapter compilations".
@@popdissected4400 it helped me discover Spiritual and Dance with the Devil. Two songs that are standouts and should have been on the standard versions of their respective albums
She still deserves this kind if success, but Capitol sabotages her!
We don't talk about C*pit*l 🤢
@@popdissected4400 period🤢🤮
She won’t be remember the way Beyonce, Taylor swift or even Ariana grande will be. But she totally deserves all that she has.
Honestly, I agree. I think Katy Perry is going to be an artist who has her legacy overshadowed to be completely honest. I never would have thought this even 5 years ago. But I think with her public response in 2017, and her most recent record not performing well on the charts with no notable singles except "Never Really Over", Katy's name is going to be lost in the mix. Check me out in 20 years making a video on why we need to remember HER legacy 😭
@@popdissected4400 never really over should have been number one based on the raw talent and work that went into the song. Marilyn Manson went through something similar as well when his schtick was glossed over due to the rise of Eminem and then Columbine with Holy Wood. Holy Wood was also an amazing album but the public attitude has changed
I totally disagree, Katy Perry literally shaped mainstream pop in the early 2010s. If you'd ever look back at the evolution of pop you'd find that Katy's earlier albums contributed
I mean, prism and witness are her best álbums
Trueee. "PRISM" is definitely my fave.
is it okay if Katy releases MVs for 'walking on air' & 'legendary lovers' ?
Well, she never has. But we can pretend she will, right?
@@popdissected4400 no i mean is it against the "rules"/tradition ?
