Yes, the text most naturally suggests that the man of lawlessness will be an actual person at the end of the era. The idea is not some sort of principle of rebellion that extends over the centuries.
Any rebuilt temple certainly couldn't be something that pleased God, because Jesus fulfilled all the Old Testament sacrifices, and there is no way that God would want us to go back to those.
@@maxaplin4204 That is absolutely correct. Did you know that in 363 AD they made an attempt to rebuild their temple and an earthquake caused fires to break out along the foundation, thus God prevented them from building. @@amyashleman106 I'm not sure you are right that the Jews will certainly never again be allowed to rebuild the temple. I mean, I feel like John Piper leaned so much on Christians being the temple than their being a physical temple in the last days. Jesus himself says about the abomination that causes desolation spoken by Daniel in Matthew 24. In Daniel 9, he actually says a physical temple with real sacrifices and offerings happening. It seems the Jews will revive this tradition at some point. In Daniel 11, he expounds on this, he says the man of lawlessness will desecrate the temple fortress and abolish the daily sacrifice, then set the abomination that causes isolation. It seems like Daniel is taking about a building.

Sometimes I feel like Jesus was telling the disciples things that would happen in their time. In this two Thessalonians sermon, when Jesus reminded them that he had told him this before., Was it for their time or our time or both? thank you.
Will Christians see the Antichrist, or will the rapture occur before then? There are different views regarding the timing of the rapture in relation to the events of the tribulation period and the appearance of the Antichrist. Our ministry holds to a pretribulational view of the rapture-the view that all believers in Christ will be taken to heaven before the events of the tribulation period begin. First Thessalonians 4:13-18 describes the rapture, giving the order of events like this: Jesus comes from heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:16), the dead in Christ rise first (1 Thessalonians 4:16), and living believers are “caught up” to meet the Lord in the air. We believe this event ends the church age, and believers will “be with the Lord forever” following the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:17). We believe that, after the rapture, the seven-year tribulation period that is described in Daniel and Revelation will begin. Revelation 13 refers to a “beast” who will rule with absolute authority during the second half of the tribulation: “The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months” (Revelation 13:5). The Antichrist will be defeated at the second coming of Jesus described in Revelation 19. Since Christians will be raptured before the beginning of the tribulation, we who are alive during the church age will not see the Antichrist’s rise to power. It is possible that we will see him on the world stage, but we will not recognize him as the beast, because he will not yet have made his move toward world domination. The fact that the Antichrist is not revealed until after the rapture is taught in 2 Thessalonians 2. Speaking of the Day of the Lord, Paul writes that the tribulation will not begin until after the Antichrist is already revealed: “That day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God” (verses 3-4). Also, the revelation of the Antichrist must come after something else, because right now there is something “holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed” (verses 6-8). We believe this One who “holds back” the Antichrist is none other than the Holy Spirit. When the restraining influence of the Spirit is removed from this world-along with the church that the Spirit indwells-then the Antichrist will have free rein. Will Christians see the Antichrist? No, at least not in his role as described in Revelation. The removal of the Restrainer’s influence precedes the revealing of the Antichrist. Evil is hindered right now, but, once the church age ends, the obstruction will be gone, and the rebellion will have the upper hand, at least temporarily. At the end of the tribulation, “the Lord Jesus will overthrow [the Antichrist] with the breath of his mouth and destroy [him] by the splendor of his coming” (2 Thessalonians 2:8). The ultimate doom of evil is sure. We should note that there will be people who come to faith in Christ during the tribulation period. Many of these people will be Jews who believe in Jesus (Revelation 7). These believers will not only see the Antichrist but endure severe persecution because of him. These tribulation saints will either die during the tribulation or live to see the second coming of Jesus Christ (Revelation 19).

How about soemthing within the body of the beliver which IS a temple? How also about bringing Daniel and 2 Thes. together with 2 prophetic time (AD70 and future) - an actual temple then and the new 'temple' now?
The former explanation seems more likely. Not simply based on Paul's repetitive use of the phrase, temple of God, meaning the body of believers, or the church. But also because the Jews reject Christ as the Messiah, and so if they built a "temple of God", it wouldn't be for the body of Christ, which Paul again makes clear is the only interpretation he uses for the temple, post resurrection.
It is worth nothing that in John 2:19-21 Jesus gives a prophecy about 'this temple' that was not referring, at least mainly, to the literal Jerusalem temple. Instead, it was referring metaphorically to Jesus' body. This would help support the idea that Paul's prophecy in 2 Thess 2 :4 is also referring to a non-literal, metaphorical temple.
When reading this verse "The Man of Lawlessness sits at the temple of God as if he were God" can simply relate to the individual that is the opposite of God sitting as the most powerful Man on earth, like Obama when he sat as the most powerful Man on the world ... The earth itself is a temple, in the same way It is also a heaven.. So my point is that, we should understand first in what context The Bible refers to the temple of God because when Obama went to a Christian Church to mock AND question God's word, he did It in the temple of God because Christian Churches are God's TEMPLES as well.... So let's not just jump to the conclusion that It refers to the third temple in Israel because The Bible does not specify which temple It refers to when speaking of The Lawless One, It simply states that The Lawless One "sits in the temple of God as if he were God", and again that temple It refers to may ve very well the earth itself, and not neccessarily a specific temple... And besides, it's NOT in the interest of the evil one that the third temple should be rebuilt, it's just not in the scriptures.
You missed the most obvious choice. How would the Thessalonians understand it? God's Temple was standing in Jerusalem. The Man of Sin would enter the Temple before some Thessalonians slept and before God's Temple was destroyed in 70AD.

I think Rashi should be renamed "rush shit" or diarrhea cause every time he rushes to disprove His own Messiah in His own Tanakh, he makes "rush shit" or diarrhea of the whole Tanakh, disregarding/opposing/ manipulating/ editing/ taking out if context the sacred scriptures inspired by God Himself. In doing so, "rush shit" also had to go against his predecessors the other rabbis who disagree with his diarrhea. People ignorant enough to accept "rush shit" end up like Calvin who admitted he is too ignorant to understand revelation. Hence, calvinism is spiritual diarrhea. When Calvin is blind about book of revelation, how can his successors not be blind too. As it is written, no disciple is greater than his master. One example of rush shit diarrhea is saying everything in genesis 3 is natural when natural snake doesn't make speeches, however Tanakh specifically in genesis 3 stated snake is an orator. Example of rabbis diarrhea is saying snake and satan had sex with eve, making eve pregnant with Cain, in contrast with Tanakh stating specifically both Cain and Abel were result of Adam knowing his wife Eve. Moral of the story, to relieve oneself of diarrhea, leave rush shit and rabbinic interpretation of the Tanakh in the toilet where it belongs.
