It was R.C Sproul, of which I was in the Church of Rome, has helped me over four years to understand the truth, to come to saving faith in Christ Jesus. He was very gentle with me, on my faith in the Church of Rome, and carful to explanation without rudeness but with Love the views that Rome teaches. What great news to discover that by Faith we are saved, not by works, but by His Grace.
As a Charismatic, I certainly enjoy the teaching of RC Sproul. Even though I may not fully agree with some of his teaching, he was and is certainly a great brother in Christ.
If you not agree, either he is wrong or you are wrong. How can we know who is wrong or perhaps both , you and Sproul are wrong. The way to find out is, any theological statement has to be backed up by a “It is written” meaning with Bible in hand.
We often think that God gives us commands through His Word just to control us and subject us to His will without understanding that His commands are simply to protect us from the consequences of sin, waywardness, and rebellion. When we begin to realize the importance of walking in obedience, we can then have true freedom in the Spirit. The million-dollar question: Will you go to Heaven when you die? Here’s a quick test. Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God’s name in vain? Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done those things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in Hell. God, who the Bible says is “rich in mercy,” sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross for guilty sinners. We broke God’s Law, but Jesus paid our fine. That means He can legally dismiss our case. He can commute our death sentence: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Then He rose from the dead and defeated death. R C Sproul has given so much historical information that gives improved clarity to to difficult passages within the scriptures. We can’t be dogmatic on our positions on end time events. However it requires constant searching to better understand the Lords perfect plan of redemption.
Regarding “End of Times” we have to find the real Truth about the last events and not only be Dogmatic about it but also promote its teaching. There is to much Confusion on the subject. For instance, Millions and millions believe in the Rapture, I have asked many to have a full Presentation on the subject, I have found nobody, not even Pastors to do it.

I believe it would be helpful, especially in talks such as this one, to include the year in which the teaching by Dr. Sproul took place. I can only guess, based upon his appearance, which I think over the years maintained a certain youthful vigor, making it difficult to do so. Thumbs up.

It's the prayers of the saints keeping the world from expressing the nature of its ruler, the antichrist. Once the church is gone and believers are banished from society, the world will be recreated in the image of satan. Then comes the apocalypse and righteous condemnation of the whole world.

The need to know an identity of Antichrist distracts from the contextual warning (chapters 1-3) to avoid compromising with evil when we are told it’s certain end. Stay alert and stand fast in all ages.
He kind of did. Verse 7 says “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.” The Holy Spirit can’t be “out of the way” unless Christians are raptured. That was the point he made and since the rapture is a bit of tomfoolery, that’s why he finds that argument to be preposterous
I propose, The Restrainer was the Roman Empire which prevented the rise of the midterm of lawlessness. After the fall of the empire, it got out of the way and this mystery of lawlessness, the man of sin, the son of perdition, started his reign as a Political-Religious power in Roma and then to all Europe…

Anyone who opposes the doctrine will be labeled as a "hater". Many pastors will promote those who reject Christ, as "God's People", by ignoring the passage above. The doctrine will become the official policy of government leaders. It will become illegal to criticize those who reject Christ. It is "another Gospel", which Paul warned against in Galatians 1:6-9. .

This fits the “many antichrists” verse but what of the verses detailing a personal single antichrist? that will use many wonders to deceive? Could it be a pope? Yes. But we dont know.
It's good to have the right questions to ask. What is comforting is to know and believe in Who Jesus is, "the only Righteous One." The spirit of the antichrist or the person of the antichrist can, therefore, always be identified without much thought. Could be right around the corner, or it could be 500 years from now. Our job is to "occupy until I come", to pray, to preach the good news to all nations (ethnic groups), to heal the sick, raise the dead, seek for the kingdom rule of Christ to infiltrate every area of life and society to be closer to the standard of heaven. It's fine to be hopeful of the return of Christ being imminent, but bring "extra oil" for the possibility the master's return might seem to us to be delayed.
If it's an angel who's going to lock up satan (Rev 20: 2), it would make sense to assume it's an angel who is going to stop restraining satan and release him.

Another candidate for the restrainer of 2 Thes 2 is Michael the archangel. The thinking is that in Daniel 10, when Daniel was praying, the angel came to him after 3 weeks. He told Daniel that the Prince of the Kingdom of Persia, presumably a demonic entity, had withstood him for 21 days until Michael came to help, and the angel (Gabriel?) was able to come to Daniel for the answer to his prayer. Then in Daniel 12:1 "At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince, who has charge of your (Daniel's people, the Jews) . The thinking is that Michael the archangel is the one who has the power to restrain the man of sin, the anti-christ.
Actually, I’m convinced that the one restraining the lawless one is the Holy Spirit, but I am not a dispensationalist. Is not the Holy Spirit God, and does not God always restrain Satan as we see in the beginning of the book of Job (and elsewhere)? Not even a sparrow falls to the ground without the will of God.
Well....I have to believe there's more to it than just that because revelation 12:7-17.... I believe the restrainer is the Roman emperor which had to be removed for the papacy to rise to power and take the title of the emperor, 'Pontifex Maximus'. The papacy ruled 1260 years, from 538AD to1798AD, when Napoleon's general captured the pope and confiscated his property. This 'wound to the head' was healed when Mussolini returned Vatican City. Unanswered Scriptural facts Plz let someone answer these Scriptural truths 1. Book of Daniel says a beast as a symbol = a king(a person,leader) or a kingdom (so not just a kingdom, a political power or system) 2.if the anti Christ is not a person but a system how do justify Rev 19:20 which states that both the Antichrist and the false prophet will be cast alive into the lake of fire 3. If the Antichrist is same as the false prophet how do you then explain Rev 13 and 19 where we have 2 different personalities (2 beasts) clearly mentioned. Daniel clearly states that a beast is either a king (a person, a leader) or a kingdom (a system, political power) 4.Revelation 13 ,16:13 and 19:20 are clearly referring to humans and not kingdoms because both the Antichrist and the false prophet will be judged at the same time while in Rev 20 satan's 1st judgment follows immediately for a 1000yrs before his final judgment comes up. So we see Trinity of evil in Rev 19:20-Rev20:1-3 (Satan, Antichrist,false prophet) 5. Rev 13:18 states that it's the "Number of A Man" and not the number of Man but " A MAN" (emphasis 'a man' a male person) May be the false prophet is the papacy and may be not the Antichrist, so who is the Antichrist ? Very soon the Almighty will establish His Kingdom government over the earth and bring beautiful changes to the earth and mankind. There will be no more death, pain or sorrow on earth, Revelation 21:4,5. No more wickedness on earth, Psalms 37:9-11. Earth will be inhabited by meek, righteous individuals who care about one another, Psalms 37:29; Proverbs 2:21,22; Matthew 5:5. There will be one government over mankind, a righteous government with Jesus ruling as King of kings and he will do on a grand scale what he did when he was on earth. Including awakening the dead so that they too can enjoy life on a cleansed earth that will be cultivated into a Paradise. John 5:28,29. This is God's purpose, and it will be accomplished, Isaiah 55:11. I was taught the restraint was Nero's mother, she controlled him when he was younger and held him back when he started to do wicked things. she was out of the way when Nero murdered her.

no the original word was in Hebrew,and Aramaic, Paul said the right thing at first but then when the Romans got their hands on it, they mistranslated it making it seem like Paul was correcting his original saying. Everybody knew at that time that the Roman (Catholic church) is the beast...the heads of the beast actually represented the hilltops that Rome had that stuck out like a head. You offer many opinions but as Children of God and students of His Word, you would do much better and be considerably more believeable if you could offer legitimate sources, ie; etymologies and solid scriptural references so that we, as good Bereans - Acts 17:11 - can confirm any, if at all, of what you say. Eschatology matters. Your view of Eschatology will influence how you interpret the word of God. Do not sleep on this teaching, it's the word of God and you shouldn't take it lightly. How you understand the Scriptures will influence your understanding of the world and it's no small matter.
Let me share this with you. JESUS CHRIST IS NOT GOD. Sprouls description of the Antichrist is perfectly aligned with the False Jesus in the Church. They originally believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God, and then after joining themselves to others, they are taught that Jesus is God, and are in a fallen away state. It fits perfect. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, not God the Son. We are to worship the Father, yet they worship Jesus. Jesus was sent by the Father, yet they believe Jesus is the Father. The False Jesus, sits as God. But only the Father is God. The False Jesus is worshipped, prayed to, and sits as God, but isnt God. He comes in peaceably. The False Jesus is the son of perdition, not the Son of God. There is only one God, the Father, and there is one Lord Jesus Christ. The Father is the Creator. The Father is supreme ruler and Creator of heaven and earth, yet they say that Jesus is the Creator. They say Jesus is the LORD . They say Jesus is the Almighty God. God the Son is not the Son of God. Jesus Christ is not the only begotten Son of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is not God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was not sent into the world to reconcile us to Jesus Christ Jesus Christ is not the Father who BEGAT Jesus Christ. The Jesus that the church worships as God, is the image of the Beast. Jesus Christ is the express image of God. Hebrews 1:3 The Jesus that the church worships as God, is a false image of God. God the Son is a representation of the triune god. Therefore, The triune god is the beast ( who can make war with beast,? Who is like unto the beast?) And the Jesus they worship as God, is the image of the beast. The image of the beast is the Antichrist which Sproul is describing. Watch the video again. Sproul doesnt know who hes talking about but describes God the Son almost perfect. He who has ears to hear let him hear. He who will hate me for the names sake of Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God, take notice to why you hate this message, because I am declaring that Jesus IS NOT GOD.

@@bertgoat Go through the lectures. It will answer many of your questions. Ultimately I don't care about what people say. Our search is for the truth of the matter. Science is a search for the truth. If one gets stuck or frustrated on a matter that makes no sense, then I don't get stuck there. I pray and ask God to reveal the truth of the matter. It may be immediate or take some time. But invariably I get the answer. I disagree with many of my Christian friends on issues, since they seem to have attended a social movement and all nod their heads , who all believe the same thing, without questioning its veracity or how come the kingdom of God has waxed and waned in effectiveness or truthfulness since Jesus resurrection. Or later, after the disciples were baptised in the Holy Spirit in power, but how come that power is now so spartan.
Wouldn’t it be really suspicious if every Christian was raptured from the earth? There will be many, and I mean many, “Christians” who will be left behind. And there will probably be just enough Christians who will end up raptured that won’t raise obvious suspicion. But there’ll probably be just enough raptured where the friends of those raptured who are left behind will tell others and they won’t believe them.

You are completely wrong. There was rebellion in heaven, spawned by pride and jealousy in Lucifer. God could have destroyed him, but God wants to preserve freewill and does not desire even a perception of injustice. He has let the consequences of evil run its course, so that all beings will see its nature. He has provided a Sacrifice for sin, that we may be forgiven, but those who continue in rebellion, will be destroyed along with Satan and his angels, after the resurrection of the wicked (1000 years after Christ's second coming). The war is real. It is spiritual on our part, but the wicked people will use violence, as well as Satan's forces and Christ, himself.

The antichrist is only mentioned in the Bible in First John (a mention in 2nd John), and clearly refers to a group of Christians who left the congregation for Gnostic teachings. They continued to believe in Jesus, but they adopted Gnostic views about his nature. First John addresses theological errors of this group and urges them to return to be reunited with the congregation they left. Among the errors addressed were: the error (sin) of denying that Jesus came in the flesh; the error (sin) of failing to love; the error (sin) of hating; the error (sin) of failing to fellowship with the believers and failing to confess their sins to each other. Anyone who takes the time to read this brief epistle will see this.

I understand your dilemma I would like to offer some idea Could it be that the Antichrist is a spirit. Who enters a human who has no soul. Conceivably, the anti-Christ is satan, who will come - again - in the flesh and rule for one hour with the beast. Satan is being conjured and will appear after great bloodshed and rise like the phoenix out of the ashes of the Abyss (Rev 9.11)
I am a pre-trib believer. The restrainer is the Holy Spirit, that's why the church was not mentioned anymore during and after tribulation because the church has been taken out and will not be around when the Anti-Christ wrecked havoc in this world. RC Sproul is a great theologian but I don't agree on this particular teaching. He is also speculating and comes up with his own interpretation also.
Just as we are now looking back to the cross of Jesus (as an event in the past), the Pharisees and Sadducees (and actually all the Jews in general) were looking FORWARD to the coming of the Messiah. Given the fact that most of them didn't (and some still don't) believe that Jesus is the Messiah and therefore did/do not accept the free gift of salvation, I think it's fair to say that they were committing apostasy, for Jesus is the fulfilment of the law God had given them. Every sacrifice made i the temple after Christ’s death was an insult to God. When the high priest when into the temple to offer a sacrifice for atonement after Jesus gave His life - that is apostasy and they were without excuse. That’s why the first century church was mostly Jewish Christians.

If Nicodemus had turned back away from Jesus, THEN that's an apostate (assuming he did profess to believe Jesus). The other pharisees never pretended to trust Jesus, therefore, false religion (again, just my viewpoint). This era 0 AD -70 AD was definitely an extremely convoluted time. It's a miracle in and of itself that the Bible survived how it has.

He was very gentle with me, on my faith in the Church of Rome, and carful to explanation without rudeness but with Love the views that Rome teaches. What great news to discover that by Faith we are saved, not by works, but by His Grace.

As a Charismatic, I certainly enjoy the teaching of RC Sproul. Even though I may not fully agree with some of his teaching, he was and is certainly a great brother in Christ.
Why are you compelled to diminish your comment by declaring disagreement? The Charismatic movement is rife with error, flakes, and false prophets.
If you not agree, either he is wrong or you are wrong. How can we know who is wrong or perhaps both , you and Sproul are wrong. The way to find out is, any theological statement has to be backed up by a “It is written” meaning with Bible in hand.

R C Sproul has given so much historical information that gives improved clarity to to difficult passages within the scriptures. We can’t be dogmatic on our positions on end time events. However it requires constant searching to better understand the Lords perfect plan of redemption.
Regarding “End of Times” we have to find the real Truth about the last events and not only be Dogmatic about it but also promote its teaching. There is to much Confusion on the subject. For instance, Millions and millions believe in the Rapture, I have asked many to have a full Presentation on the subject, I have found nobody, not even Pastors to do it.

I ran into Dr. Sprouls teachings yesterday Feb 5 2024. He is an awesome teacher. I read he went to be with the Ĺord December 14 2017 at age 78.
Check out Steve Gregg, too. He's charismatic but has the same approach where he lets the scripture breathe and speak for itself.
I was not aware that R.C.Sproul had passed away a year ago ( more or less) he is a prolific teacher, well, he is with our Lord and our Master.
I believe it would be helpful, especially in talks such as this one, to include the year in which the teaching by Dr. Sproul took place. I can only guess, based upon his appearance, which I think over the years maintained a certain youthful vigor, making it difficult to do so. Thumbs up.

It's not "unwarranted speculation" but rather the most logical answer to the restrainer being the multitude of Holy Spirit indwelled believers.
It's the prayers of the saints keeping the world from expressing the nature of its ruler, the antichrist. Once the church is gone and believers are banished from society, the world will be recreated in the image of satan. Then comes the apocalypse and righteous condemnation of the whole world.
This is just incorrect as the text doesn't suggest that in any way, shape or form. We must make sure to use hermeneutics and not infer our preconceived notions
The restrainer is the Archangel Michael.
What about the Restrainer being the Roman Empire which was still well alive at that time.

After the fall of the empire, it got out of the way and this mystery of lawlessness, the man of sin, the son of perdition, started his reign as a Political-Religious power in Roma and then to all Europe…

Could be right around the corner, or it could be 500 years from now. Another candidate for the restrainer of 2 Thes 2 is Michael the archangel. The thinking is that in Daniel 10, when Daniel was praying, the angel came to him after 3 weeks. He told Daniel that the Prince of the Kingdom of Persia, presumably a demonic entity, had withstood him for 21 days until Michael came to help, and the angel (Gabriel?) was able to come to Daniel for the answer to his prayer.
Then in Daniel 12:1 "At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince, who has charge of your (Daniel's people, the Jews) . The thinking is that Michael the archangel is the one who has the power to restrain the man of sin, the anti-christ.
Actually, I’m convinced that the one restraining the lawless one is the Holy Spirit, but I am not a dispensationalist. Is not the Holy Spirit God, and does not God always restrain Satan as we see in the beginning of the book of Job (and elsewhere)? Not even a sparrow falls to the ground without the will of God.

I believe the restrainer is the Roman emperor which had to be removed for the papacy to rise to power and take the title of the emperor, 'Pontifex Maximus'. The papacy ruled 1260 years, from 538AD to1798AD, when Napoleon's general captured the pope and confiscated his property. This 'wound to the head' was healed when Mussolini returned Vatican City. 2.if the anti Christ is not a person but a system how do justify Rev 19:20 which states that both the Antichrist and the false prophet will be cast alive into the lake of fire
3. If the Antichrist is same as the false prophet how do you then explain Rev 13 and 19 where we have 2 different personalities (2 beasts) clearly mentioned. Daniel clearly states that a beast is either a king (a person, a leader) or a kingdom (a system, political power)
4.Revelation 13 ,16:13 and 19:20 are clearly referring to humans and not kingdoms because both the Antichrist and the false prophet will be judged at the same time while in Rev 20 satan's 1st judgment follows immediately for a 1000yrs before his final judgment comes up. So we see Trinity of evil in Rev 19:20-Rev20:1-3 (Satan, Antichrist,false prophet)
5. Rev 13:18 states that it's the "Number of A Man" and not the number of Man but " A MAN" (emphasis 'a man' a male person)
May be the false prophet is the papacy and may be not the Antichrist, so who is the Antichrist ?

If one gets stuck or frustrated on a matter that makes no sense, then I don't get stuck there. I pray and ask God to reveal the truth of the matter. It may be immediate or take some time. But invariably I get the answer. I disagree with many of my Christian friends on issues, since they seem to have attended a social movement and all nod their heads , who all believe the same thing, without questioning its veracity or how come the kingdom of God has waxed and waned in effectiveness or truthfulness since Jesus resurrection. Or later, after the disciples were baptised in the Holy Spirit in power, but how come that power is now so spartan.

His repeated and continued criticism and attacks on premillennial dispensationalism don't add up. Do a search for "John MacArthur rapture"; his argument in favor of it is infinitely stronger and vastly more compelling than is the late Mr. Sproul's repudiation.

The antichrist is only mentioned in the Bible in First John (a mention in 2nd John), and clearly refers to a group of Christians who left the congregation for Gnostic teachings. They continued to believe in Jesus, but they adopted Gnostic views about his nature. First John addresses theological errors of this group and urges them to return to be reunited with the congregation they left. gnostic ideas were put down because they couldnt believe that Jesus would leave the leadership of the church to his star pupil Mary Magdalene...John couldnt deal with a woman telling him what to do so he ran her off and then the church burned all the "heresy" later...so sad...i would love to see women in authority in churches

I understand your dilemma I would like to offer some idea Could it be that the Antichrist is a spirit. Who enters a human who has no soul. But in order for that spirit to enter this Human Must be accepting. Because all humans belong to God. So the one who carries the spirit of the Anti Christ accepted it and and knows it. There have been many prospects Throughout the years But a human must be willing to actually accept That spirit. If the human refuses it it goes to the next one. Conceivably, the anti-Christ is satan, who will come - again - in the flesh and rule for one hour with the beast. Satan is being conjured and will appear after great bloodshed and rise like the phoenix out of the ashes of the Abyss (Rev 9.11)
I am a pre-trib believer. The restrainer is the Holy Spirit, that's why the church was not mentioned anymore during and after tribulation because the church has been taken out and will not be around when the Anti-Christ wrecked havoc in this world. RC Sproul is a great theologian but I don't agree on this particular teaching. He is also speculating and comes up with his own interpretation also.

When he mentions those who committed apostasy back in Jesus' days, does that include the pharisees and saducees? Did they commit apostasy?
Just as we are now looking back to the cross of Jesus (as an event in the past), the Pharisees and Sadducees (and actually all the Jews in general) were looking FORWARD to the coming of the Messiah. Given the fact that most of them didn't (and some still don't) believe that Jesus is the Messiah and therefore did/do not accept the free gift of salvation, I think it's fair to say that they were committing apostasy, for Jesus is the fulfilment of the law God had given them. The Jews knew Jesus was the Messiah but they rejected Him in their unrighteousness (they loved their sin.) Read through Hebrews. Every sacrifice made i the temple after Christ’s death was an insult to God. When the high priest when into the temple to offer a sacrifice for atonement after Jesus gave His life - that is apostasy and they were without excuse.
That’s why the first century church was mostly Jewish Christians.
@@guessable i think (just opinion), the pharisees were closer to pagans than apostates. If Nicodemus had turned back away from Jesus, THEN that's an apostate (assuming he did profess to believe Jesus).
The other pharisees never pretended to trust Jesus, therefore, false religion (again, just my viewpoint). This era 0 AD -70 AD was definitely an extremely convoluted time. It's a miracle in and of itself that the Bible survived how it has.
