I like how this game is as much an exposure to bits of Japanese culture as it is a validation that said culture is as disjointed as any other. It is basically an "I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm trying my best" simulator.
I was going to thumb up this, but then I saw that it was at 69, and I thought I should be considerate.
Slice-of-life anime and manga also teach you that. Japanese High School seems stressful as hell

The boy catching the falling girl wearing the necklace is a reference to Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky. The golden axe / silver axe one is a reference to one of Aesop's Fables called the Honest Woodcutter.

They really did a good job sneaking it past you. in between all the nonsense, we see the couple dating and the lady with the new babbu all inside in storage mode and the wee babe in the hospital looking at them... all along, it had a story.

Most thought Arin was playing with fire when he sucked up Japan into his sack, however, stealing the sun from the sky in order to start a campfire pretty much doomed the entire world.

I dunno, both are pretty severe global catastrophes! If you suddenly hoisted a land mass the size of an entire country out of hte ocean and into the air, you're going to cause some pretty crazy tsunamis ( rest in peace china and southern russia and a large part of australia and most of western US ect ), and probably mess up the ocean currents for significant time after the fact too. The sun of course would be QUICKER.. but in that case it'd almost be a mercy! lol

I love that scene in the matrix when Neo dodges the bullets and the bright red one considerately goes really slow and backwards at one point.
There should be more games that are just an experience like this, where you don't need to always win, the game doesn't want to make it too clear how to win, but it's just a good time doing wacky stuff.
Kinda like real life where your just going through the motions & left wondering whether you made the right decisions or set yourself up for failure. All while being confused in the process 😅
Okay, so the kids at 8:20 and 13:10 are a reference to Seita and Setsuko from Grave of the Fireflies. In the movie, they end up living outside for awhile (hence why they have camping equipment at 8:20), because their parents die during WW2 (which is why the second reference to them being lost kids looking for their parents is surprisingly dark humor).

naw they have an idea what to do, it's more like people with severe amneezy.. because they don't recall how they got here or what they're meant to do next, and also how to do basic things like move around and .. do.. explosions.

Okay but playing this game is actually super accurate to real life sometimes. Half the time the considerate action is complete common sense, but half the time you are left completely baffled with no clue what to do. It invokes the feeling of social anxiety perfectly.

I love the Freddie insertion in this game!! I was told by my dad that the Japanese love LOVE Freddie and Queen! It obviously isn't lost on the developers of this game, who also have great taste in music. I'm actually currently learning Japanese and I was pleased with myself that I could recognize characters and sound out the words! :'))

I love the credits. They took the theme from the first game, and slowed it down so it sounds very sweet, like how we look back on fun memories that we had as children knowing that even though we’re adults and can’t relive those moments, we at least got to experience them. Literally the slowed down version of the theme made me almost tear up because it’s so lovely.
This went the opposite of how I thought it would go. Arin was actually trying and Dan just said F' it.
