I'm currently reading Something wicked...and the prose is very poetic, very descriptive, there are sentences like "Outside, a weather of stars ran clear in an ocean sky," this makes the reading slow paced, but I'm loving the whole atmosphere and the setting, and the spooky carnival has just arrived🎪🎭🎠🎡
I would LOVE a focus on either Dark Academia or Horror... I have Atlas Six in my library and House of Leaves, a vlog on either one would be so much fun!
I think you would LOVE "The Lost Children" by Carolyn Cohagen. It's a super cute middle grade with touches of magic and whimsy. Our main protagonist Josephine is your quintessential bookish latchkey kid, who one day while doing a school gardening assignment, has to go to the one place she hates most... the garden shed. There she finds a mysterious boy who refuses to talk. After a series of events, Josephine fall through her shed into another and has to find her was out with the help of a few new friends.
Oooh I'm here for the dark academia and witchy vibes for a vlog! Not A Happy Family sounded so great, but ended up being a let down. Put that reading time toward something more exciting ❤

I ADORE Something Wicked. It's spooky, lyrical, so autumnal, and I love the carnival setting. Also I vote for the vlog to be horror. I'd love to see your reactions even if you end up DNFing! Plus, as you said, you could watch The Shining movie after.

When it comes to The Shining, the book and the movie have very different endings. If you love the book and want to see something more faithful, find the miniseries that was done in the 90's. That being said, the movie is amazing.
You have to read the Atlas Six it’s one of my favorite books of the year and I really think you’ll enjoy it!! This book literally has everything going for it, just to name a few: - morally gray characters that you can’t help root for - enemies To lovers - you will want to ship everyone in the book with each other - conversations around education, magic, and science! - the vibes are simply immaculate for spooky season - competition vibes And so much more!

The other books that I picked are: - Legendborn (I've been seeing this book, a lot, too. I keep thinking it's the sequel to Amari and the Night Brothers) - The Ex Hex - The Ravens - kind of makes me think of American Horror Story - Coven. - The Witch Haven - The Inheritance Games - Something Wicked This Way Comes - The Deadless Girls - I'm a sucker for Vampires. I think that you would LOVE, The Graveyard Queen Series by Amanda Stevens. It is a series of 6 books and the first book is: The Restorer. We follow Amelia Grey, the main character in the series, who has the unique job of being a cemetery restorer. Moreover, she has the unique ability to see ghosts, as does her father. This series gives very creepy, gothic, eerie and atmospheric vibes. The author’s writing is so descriptive, lyrical and hunting…. The books can be read as standalone or as part of the series, but there are main plot points and themes that interconnect the series. There are secret societies, voodoo elements, a bit of romance and fantasy and a mystery to be solved. THIS SERIES IS SO HAUNTING!!!!!!!!! ❤️LOVE THIS SERIES❤️❤️❤️‼️‼️‼️‼️
