I just finished a thriller called First Lie Wins for the readathon, and I gave it 5 stars. I feel like it'd be good to get you out of a sump because it's a QUICK quick read, that will have you flipping pages and your heart racing! Very twisty! I highly recommend it.
I would recommend The Push by Ashley Audrain, The Mindf*ck series by S T Abby, Couplets: A love Story by Maggie Milner, or Belladonna by Adalyn Grace to get out of a slump!!
My latest reading slump was a monster, so I listened to every audiobook version of Pride and Prejudice I could find, then it just made me so excited to read the physical copy…and so many other books afterwards. You are so right!
P&P is the book that almost got me into a reading slump bc of how it was a bit hard for me to read (I'm not a native English speaker) but I tried 😂 it was a fantastic read regardless
@@seweeslide9840 I totally get you, nonnative speaker here!! And I totally see native speakers say P&P get they into reading slumps like all the time 🤣
Since westerns wasn't covered I would recommend lonesome dove. Other favorites that for various reasons I loved were Finley donovan is killing it, the seven husbands of Evelyn hugo, the house with good bones, the sundown motel, and the paris apartment.
Here's your cherry 🍒 And a book I'll recommend is Small Spaces by Katherine Arden. And you know what! I'm actually reading The adventures of Amina al-sirafi at the moment, and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed starting it, but I guess I'll read it now that you say you loved it!
Thanks for the recommendations Lexi!! I love your channel and being a part of your book club! I’ve really enjoyed all of the book club picks so far this year ☺️🍒
Loved this video! 🌷🩷 Anxious people by fredrick backman and the bodyguard by katherine center were both books that got me out of my reading slump! Also both were 5 star reads and all time fav now!☀️🌷
I added several to my TBR list, thanks! I know a lot of people really enjoy The Midnight Library, but I personally enjoyed Matt Haig's The Humans so much more. It was funny and made you think about some of the actions/things that may not have a good reason for -- but we do them because that's what we as a species have always done. Or our obsessions from an "outside view". And yet, even with our many flaws, we are loveable. None of this reveals anything about the book, these are just my own personal reflections after reading the book.
Loved Fairytale by Stephen King…..amazing!!! First book I ever read by him and I was shocked how much I loved it! It has stuck with me…great fantasy adventure with lots of wisdom thrown in…plus a dog! Highly recommend 🍒❤
@@alexandraroselyn update!! I read a book called Hot British Boyfriend, can't remember the author cause she's not someone I usually read. Got me out of my reading slump 😁
🍒I feel like thrillers are always a great choice to get out of a reading slump, one of my favorites is Murder on the Orient Express because I love the time period and Agatha Christie was just so genius with her mysteries! Also, love that this dropped as the readathon ended, it just extended the fun!
What could be a better video topic than this? I love getting a run down of amazing books! My recommendations: 1) ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ (it’s an easy young adult thriller with an engaging mystery - gives ‘Serial’ podcast vibes), 2) ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil’ (super fun eccentric characters and location (Savannah, GA) with a murder mystery throw in. It’s got all the fun southern vibes and rich people drama. It reads like a fictional novel except that it’s based on a true story! And the movie is awesome too.)
Highly highly recommend The Murderbot Diaries if you're in a reading slump. They're short and easy to jump into even if you're not a super sci-fi fan. It's funny and face paced.
For those in a reading slump, I always tend to recommend fun and light books, like you just said. Right now I am reading The Husbands by Holly Gramazio, and it's so fun! It's basically the story of a young woman coming home from a night out to find a man in her house. The man acts like he knows her and wears a ring. She quickly realizes he is her husband. At some point he climbs up in the attic. Another man comes down. Truns out that every time her husband gets in the attic, another husband reappears, along with another life (her phone content changes, her physical appearance changes slightly, so does her apartment). Can't wait to see how this story will unfold. Last week I finished reading My Husband after you recommended it in your last video and I LOVED IT!!!!! A strong 5 stars! And like you said, there were episodes in which I kinda recognized myself LOL. And the twist at the end, just scrumptious! 🍒
You're very good at summarizing book plots without giving the story away. As a college undergraduate majoring in literature, I read a lot, especially classics. I was burned out. I don't know how Summer of '42 fell into my hands, but it was a breath of fresh air. I laughed a lot, and I was able to get back to the classics. Mind you, this was a long time ago (I'm 70 yrs old). I do enjoy laughing, so I appreciate your recommendations, none of which I've read. Thank you.
I’m 62 and will be reading these books too! Thankfully I have a library card. Lol She definitely knows how to draw you into wanting to read these books. 😊
I'm so glad to see Maud Ventura in english ! I loved this book ! a new one is coming out une french in august and it I feel it's going to be a good one already ! By the way, loving your channel since years, thanks for all the good recommandations.
In 2023 I read 176 books, and listened to 98 audiobooks. Then 2024 came, I was committed to reading but I started failing in two classes at college. 🥺 My summer class is almost over, and I hope to redeem my passion in reading books for enjoyment. ❤️ thank you for your recommendations.
One book I really loved was The Library of Shadows by Mikkel Birkegaard. I don't care about the rating because it is so subjective and being older, I've observed that almost everything written before 2015 gets only under 4 stars. Even the classics. 🍒🍒🍒
My book slump recommendation would be Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris! I just stumbled on your channel and your video alone got me out of my reading slump!
When you popped up on my RUclips notifications, my first thought was… Oh yes, I love her! Your description of pineapple street was the best, you described it very well.
I would say the invisible life of Addie Larue. I usually tend to do horror/thriller/fantasy books but this book was amazing. Easily one of the best books I have read in a long time.
The book that helped me here recently was Mrs. Quinns Rise to Fame. 77 year old women enters in the British Bake Off and it tells about life doing that and a secret from the past. It was so good. I read it in less than 24hrs!!
For my my fellow horror fans, I recommend The Sundown Motel by Simone St. James. She always does great ghost stories, and this one is my favorite so far. I’ve had a lot of issues with having the motivation to keep reading/finish books lately, but I was just so sucked into the book that I couldn’t help but keep reading because I needed to know what happened.
Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman! So so funny, fast-paced, action-packed, ridiculous, gory, dystopian and silly. HIGHLY recommend the audiobook with Jeff Hayes, his performance is amazing 🍒
I zoomed through the YOU series during quarantine🤷🏼♀️ the first recommendation here sounds fun. And definitely perfect for summer and “romanticizing the season”🤓🤩
Last summer, I read Fairy Tale by Stephen King. Of the many books I've read, this one surprised me the most. I really enjoyed it while reading, loved it when I finished it, and adored it when I started the after reading think moments. Also, the audio book is FANTASTIC!!!

I am obsessed with the book/audiobook "Between" by L.L. Starling. It is definitely the book that got me out of my reading slump, followed closely by "The House in the Cerulean Sea" by TJ Klune. Thank you for your videos, I absolutely love them. 🍒
I just read Murder Road by Simone St. James and it definitely brought me out of my reading slump! Read the whole thing in one day and I NEVER do that. I couldn’t put it down! 😂
My recommendation for anyone going through a reading slump is definitely "Where Rainbows End" by Cecelia Ahern. I devoured this book, and it felt as if I was literally in it 🍒 loved the video!
I actually listen to on audio and love many titles that are on your list ( I just finished ‘Bad Summer People’ after you recommended it in your last video) I think I will just watch your video for any title recommendations from now on 😊

I just saw that you also recommended this book. I cried and cried and cried at the end of the 2nd book. So good. “ the king, the girl and the monster they became.”
Yay, a new video😊🍒. I’m going through a dnf phase. Everything I pick up I put down in a day. I think I may start the Other Half or Less. Have a great week. Ooh and my rec would be Mistborn, Era 1 book 1.
Love the recs! Definitely Grady Hendrix gets me out of slumps and I’d also give a note to Emily Henry for her romances. Book Lovers and Happy Place in particular I flew through. Can’t wait to read her new one!
🍒🍒 you nailed it with The Midnight Library 🍒🍒 It’s my favorite book of all time, and though it starts out with heavy content, it ends with being such a wholesome story. Another great one is The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. Sure-fire way to get you out of a slump. And I cried at the end. I saw someone else in the comments recommend Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. Perfect if you lean toward sci-fi. And if you are a romance reader but not a huge smut girly, The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston is a GUARANTEED reading slump antibiotic. Just read it. It has ghosts. And it’s cute. (I’m finally reading Seven Year Slip (also by Poston) currently and it’s also helping with a DNF I couldn’t finish!)
I always recommend reading a childhood fav if you're in a reading slump. Something you've already read and loved AND that's also a fast read. Here are some fast reads I loved; Amari and the Night Brothers (middlegrade), The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy (middlegrade), I Who Have Never Known Men (adult/ lit fic), The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives (adult/lit fic), Every Single Lie (YA), Words in Deep Blue (YA), House of Hollow (YA), In A Dark Dark Wood (Adult)... I could go on but I better stop here aha
Absolutely adding so many of these to my TBR right now!!! Also, where did you get your gorgeous red tank from Lexi? It's giving lifeguard/stranger things/summery vibes and I'm here for it 😊
The whole way through I was thinking of books I thought Alexandra might enjoy, so I thought I'd leave them here incase anyone wants some more recs. Side note: I read a lot of different genres so I'm going to choose one book from a few different genres. Light fantasy, for someone looking to get into fantasy but not too extravagant or hard to follow, I would recommend The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater. In short a book about a group of teenagers who are trying to find this long lost welsh king called Glendower. The twist? Our main character blue is destined to cause her true love to dies, and her true love is a member of this friend group.... For some fantasy that's a little more fantastical but still a good one for beginners, Divine Rivals. Technically a fantasy romance but it still counts. This is set in a sort of world war one like war where we follow Iris Winnow as she becomes a war correspondant. I won't spoil any more than that, but trust me, it's good. For literary fiction, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This is a mixture of romance, thriller and mystery but since I didn't want to put it in all three it's going here. This follows our MC (Sorry I forgot her name) as she is asked to do an exclusive interview with a legendary actress Evelyn Hugo. As we get deeper and deeper in, darker parts of Evelyn's career are explored and there's a plot twist that will shock you and change your whole opinion on this book. For a YA thriller I'm going to go with One of us is lying. I know there are some people who hate this book, but I think it's good enough to at least get you into the habit of reading. It basically follows five students who walk into detention but only four walk out alive. We follow the aftermath and the lives of the four students as they slowly start to investigate for themselves and form friendships with each other. Secrets get revealed all over the place and I don't think you can put this down once you've started. For an adult thriller I'm going to go with Battle Royale by Koshun Takami. This is usually regarded as YA/ New Adult but I think some of the themes are really triggering. In short this is a book which is slightly similar to The Hunger Games. 42 students from a Japanese school are placed on an island to fight each other to the death. The interesting thing about this book, is that while there is a main character, we actually get a perspective from most of their classmates. This gives you an insight into every character and you genuinely get to see every death as they happen. It's dark, gory and super twisted. I know this is over 600 pages, but trust me. Read to at least page 50 and you'll be hooked. Lastly an Adult Horror (actually one of the only horror books I've enjoyed) The Passengers by John Marrs. This book is one of the most twisted I've ever read and it's such a unique concept. It's set in a future where most of the population has self driving cars. We follow eight people who get into their cars one morning and their cars get hijacked by someone who tells them they're going to die. The hijacker broadcasts the entire thing online and gets the public to vote on who they want to die, revealing their darkest secrets along the way. This book is twisted and will have you even questioning your own moral standpoint as you ask whether you'd rather save a murderer or someone who's been cheating on their partner for over twenty years and living a double life.... And cause I love giving recs, here's a few extras. LGTBQ+ romance/ fantasy- The house in the cerulean sea by TJ Klune Middle grade - Scarlet and Ivy The lost twin, by Sophie Cleverly YA/LGBTQ+ romace- They both die at the end Hope you all enjoy and happy reading
3 books revived my reading slumps at different slump periods i.e. the first being Cat Among Pigeons, Agatha Christie; The Hunting Party, Lucy Foley; & Still Life, Louise Penny. Book #1, it's Agatha Christie - 'nuff said; Book #2 change of pace from what I usually read. I was just sucked in; Book #3, for some reason, it reminded me of the British TV show "Midsomer Murders" even though the backdrop is Canada. So cozy and comfortable to me. Loved it.
Great video, as always!! I just recently completely ate up A Fellowship of Bakers and Magic, it’s super cozy, not a damn thing happens lol, but it’s so good! Think Legends & Lattes, but with a baking competition. I loved it! 🍒
My recommendation for getting out of a reading slump would be Thursday Murder Club. It’s happy, it’s emotional, it’s clever, it’s funny. And it’s a murder mystery! Which always get my stamp of approval.
Loved the Midnight Library too! A very good book to get you reading is The mysterious case of the Alperton Angles. Its absolutley amazing and very easy to read ❤
I've been slowly but surely making my way through the ACOTAR series for the first time and ACOMAF (where I'm at rn) has already really helped me to get out of my reading slump🍒
I'm actually just getting out of a reading slump. I am currently reading All The Bright Places. I was searching for recommendations on books to read because I want to try to read new genres that I don't usually go for. I have put a lot of the books that you recommended on hold. We will see how this goes 😊😊😊 Thank you for your recommendations.
I just loved Major Pettigrew's last Stand by Helen Simonson. I didn't read it out of a slump but it was a departure from my usual murder mystery reads. I thought it was a great uplifting book about new chances. Thanks for the great recommendations. I put several on my reading list. Maybe I'll even read something else than a murder mystery.
Thanks for the recommendations! Will definitely check out some of these. I actually really like the book I’m currently reading, which is “Just for the Summer” by Abby Jimenez. It’s really funny, but also touches on important topics like mental health and family relationships. Highly recommend! 🍒

It's giving lifeguard/stranger things/summery vibes and I'm here for it 😊
I kept getting distracted by your necklaces! They are so pretty
LGTBQ+ romance/ fantasy- The house in the cerulean sea by TJ Klune
Middle grade - Scarlet and Ivy The lost twin, by Sophie Cleverly
YA/LGBTQ+ romace- They both die at the end
Hope you all enjoy and happy reading
Thank you for your great reviews and book recommendations! Now I've added even more to my ever growing TBR.... 🍒
Loved it.
I always enjoy your recommendations! I think "Nettle and bone" by T. Kingfisher is a great fantasy book to get one out of a reading slump 🍒
The One by John Marrs. Short Chapters, keeps you wanting to read more!
Miss Percy’s pocket guide books are a must if you’re in a slump. Dragons and cosy and humour what’s not to like
Loved the Midnight Library too!
Just finished Tress and loved it. So enjoyable💜💜👍
For me is anything by Fredrik Backman. 🍒
I love your recs, thank you!

Brandon Sanderson always gets me out of my reading slumps. Glad he made the list ❤️
Not having a great day, but your positivity definitely helps ❤
Oh no I’m so sorry❤️ whatever’s going on I hope it gets better and I’m sending you a hug❤
I finished reading The Midnight Library but the ending kind of underwhelmed me because it felt so predictable and cliche.
🍒 I loved Midnight Library Sadly I DNF Everyone in my family has murder someone.

I've started reading A court of thorn and roses to get me out of mine xx
oooo good choice!!!
I loved that book. I'm planning on reading the next in the series this month
I am a really slow reader but I loved Benjamin Stevenson book. It's a quick read and I loved the plot twist. Rachelle in Seattle
Love this list bestie! Also the intro was straight fire!
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUU!! 😊❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the recommendations! Will definitely check out some of these. I actually really like the book I’m currently reading, which is “Just for the Summer” by Abby Jimenez. It’s really funny, but also touches on important topics like mental health and family relationships. Highly recommend! 🍒
