I always thought it was a shame that, even though Light laughs a bunch of times during the series, and Ryuk laughs a bunch of times, they never once shared a laugh. Two laughs that I consider his most true are at Ls grave and when he's caught. Because at that point he's laughing like he's finally able to tell a punch line of a joke, it's a release of a lie he's kept up for so long so it's almost as if he sees the personality he shows to others as sadist joke.
