We called Megadeth speed metal back in the day. Motorhead was the first speed metal band.
And thrashing also referred to the head-banging that accompanied this genre.
This is one of the best and original thrash metal songs of all time.

Ty. I'm a 49 year old metalhead and grew up on this music. Holy wars is based on wars in the middle east. Not to glamorize them but to shun them. Metal has a lot more meaning than most think. I appreciate you reviewing a band like them. Horns up to you guys 🤘

HIs weird prog sounding video game music shit he did a few years back wasn't my jam but his guitar work just was masterful on it. Easy to listen to appreciate what he is doing. not easy to just throw on while your driving to the corner store cause you forgot the milk again.... that make sense?

Its about damn time. Here's the problem though. You can't do Hangar 18 and Holy wars and NOT do Tornado of Souls. Tornado has what many consider the greatest thrash metal solo of all time.

Metal in general was extremely hairy back then lol but that's where the similarities end. You want to see what "glam rock" really looks like look at Poison. Yikes. I felt the need to edit this to make sure that it's very clear that I am not recommending you listen to Poison.
Their ability to change through the times helps, poison members still dress like the 80's never left!!

This song is 31 years old, Album (yes Vinyl) released in 1990. Perhaps more relevant today than ever. They're an awesome live show and don't disappoint! The song is actually in reference to religious strife going on in Ireland at the time. Keep on listening boys! \m/

2. This is two songs, holy wars and punishment due. Both were too short so they jammed them together as one song.

I call for a thrash extravaganza! Thrash from its beginnings into what it is now. Take a pole of best trash bands and songs from over the years.
Rust in Peace is a bad a$$ album! I also put a Ford Contour into a tree in an S curve doin 50 drunk like a fool when I was 19 or 20 it was in 1997 or 1998. This song was still playing in the cassette player when I came to. Thank God nobody got hurt. Just because you take a 3 hour nap doesn't mean when you wake up your sober. Car was dead, but this song was still going through the solo. RIP Nick Menza (drummer).

All the way up to 1990's there was a lot of fighting between protestants and catholics in Northen Ireland. This is ( first part - Holly Wars) story about this conflict and Mustain mouthing about it while on tour there. Second part (Tke Punishment due) is about a comic character The Punisher.

Peace Sells and The Conjuring give some earlier flavor; Tornado of Souls is off the same album as this song and Hangar 18. Megadeth has switched out drummers and guitarists throughout the years and in my opinion, this album, with Nick Menza and Marty Friedman was magical. There was something about these four making music together that hasn’t been repeated. You could react to every song on this album and each one will blow your mind in different way. I really suggest you do the each song from Rust In Peace at some point. Definitely their best album and still in my top 10 albums of all time to this day!

Before TOOL in 92, I was a big fan of the Big 4: Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. (In order of best to worst, keeping in mind they're all 10s.) Before Metallica, there was KISS as my favorite band since 3yo, then they took off their make-up and I heard Metallica... So, I only had 3 favorite bands. TOOL being the biggest and best and forever will be!!! You Trash Talkers are going in the right direction for an awesome musical journey!

There was a time I used to think Metallica and Megadeth were basically equal. As time goes on I listen to Megadeth often, whereas I listed to Metallica maybe once in a blue moon. Really no comparison IMO.
only thing Metallica has is THIER first four albums, and Megadeth has a couple more than four plus just rust in Peace and peace sells alone are probably maybe better

Marty Friedman is one of he greatests guitarists ever. You can appreciate his work in "Cacophony", a neoclassic/speed metal duo with Jason Becker, or his solo work.

This was the best Megadeth line-up - Dave Mustaine, Dave Junior, Marty Friedman and Nick Menza. Great song.
I think the Trojan Horse was only meant to hold a small undercover unit so that they could be in there for a while and then open the doors of Troy for the rest of the army to sneak in ... or at least that how I remember it haha.
And yes, Holy Wars is one of the most influential songs in metal. Megadeth has lots of great songs (and lots of not so great ones, like any other band), so I'd recommend other songs like Ashes In Your Mouth, Good Mourning/Black Friday, In My Darkest Hour, and Last Rites/Loved To Deth.
This entire album is full of masterfully created thrash-metal songs . Five Magics or Lucretia as kinda underrated ones definitely deserve a reaction

Now you guys should check out "Holy Wars" from Thy Art Is Murder, an Australian deathcore/death metal band. It's not a cover of Megadeth's song but their own original song that just happens to have the same song title, but similar message.

The initial inspiration for this song was about the religious conflict here in Northern Ireland. I was at their gig in Antrim in 88, Mustaine, after a few Guinness, unwittingly started a riot between both sides of the religious divide. The band had to be escorted, in a bullet proof bus, to Dublin for the next gig. Hence the seeds were planted for 'Holy Wars ' Talk about heel heat. He afterwards realised the error, apologised, and, eventually the band returned, all forgiven. It was a crazy time over here back in the dark days.
In my darkest hour is another good one. It's slower but as close to a broken hearted song you can get in metal music
