I saw the world premiere of this video on Headbangers Ball in 1990 when I was 18. When Marty starting soloing it was quite a game changer. Nobody else sounded like that he brought a whole new lead guitar language to metal table
Greatest metal song ever written, FIGHT ME! Lol If you wanna hear this song live, I highly suggest Live @ Hammersmith ‘92. It sounds exactly like the studio version and Dave & Nick go friggin’ ham; you won’t be disappointed.
These are the bare essentials from the 80-90's era, you can't claim you're a metalhead if you don't know at least those albums : Metallica : Ride the lightning, Master of puppets. Slayer : Reign in blood, Season in the abyss. Megadeth : Rust in peace. Judas Priest : Painkiller. Iron maiden : Number of the beast. Also, my personal pick of other albums to check : Sepultura : Arise, Chaos A.D, Roots. Iron maiden : Seventh son of a seventh son, Somewhere in time, Powerslave. Metallica : And justice for all... Pantera : Cowboys from hell. Helloween : Keeper of the seven keys part II, Time of the oath. Another band to check, not really metal (more like hard rock) but still absolutely essential old-timer to know : AC/DC (but you certainly already have heard some of it, at least Back in black or Thunderstruck). And finaly, not metal at all but essential for any guitar lover : Pink floyd.
Ah, yes, my favorite Megadeth song- =D Glad you enjoyed it! They're quite a bit lighter, but have you heard of Def Leppard? Rick Allen, The Thunder God is my favorite drummer. Dude is an absolute inspiration.
I would but I like the suspense of doing them one by one lol. I'll eventually get through the album. I think I'll do separate reactions but go the whole way through.
As a youngster in the 1980s I loved Twisted Sister and would watch MTV for hours on end waiting for one of their videos to play. About 40 years later I discovered their live at North Stage concert on RUclips and was absolutely blown away by how well they performed on stage. At least check out the opening song of that show called “What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You”
In my opinion Holy Wars, Hangar18 and Wake Up Dead are the three best Megadeth songs. Wake Up Dead has an absolutely amazing transition in it that you are not expecting at all, kind of like Holy Wars. Hangar 18 has some of the most insane dueling guitar solos you will ever hear. Born in 73’ and have loved metal my whole life. Saw KISS for my first concert lol…
Metal fan at 66. You should look at ozzfest starting at their beginning. My first was 99 and I didn't know any of the early ba ds at the time. Spotify can be a great help here. Also check soundtracks out because you get a great mix.
Hangar 18 is a logical follow up. Also: Tornado of Souls The Conjuring Set the World Afire Good Mourning/Black Friday Rattlehead Recipe for Hate... Warhorse Five Magics And many, many more
Don't feel bad dude I'm 48 years old and when I was in junior high I refused to listen to Megadeth because I was a total Metallica soldier, but now of course we all know better. 😂
Back in the 90's, Al Gore's wife and the P.M.R.C. were trying to ban swearing in music, but all they got was the "Parental Advisory" labels. Megadeth singer Dave Mustaine, Twisted Sister singer Dee Snyder and John Denver testified before Congress on behalf of free speech. John Denver's testimony was the most powerful because he HATED swearing and vulgar lyrics, but he loved free speech and didn't think that music should be censored or labeled.
Please more reactions to the Rust in Peace album. Testament the New Order album released in 1988 is a great choice. I can't imaging my teenage years without 80's thrash.
I know Dave Mustaine claims Holy wars was written about the Troubles in Northern Ireland, which was a war between Catholics and Protestants, but the symbolism in the music video is a soldier running through a desert (no deserts in Ireland), the U.S. had just taken part in Operation Desert Storm (August 1990, this CD was released September 1990) you hear the sitar Arabic themed guitar from Marty Friedman, and then the lyric of "don't look now to Israel, it might be your homeland"(Israel is the only American ally in the middle east), all of that to me defines the wars in the middle east.
Enjoyable. Its weird being an older dude watching younger dudes jam to stuff you dig. Or people from alien (cultural) backgrounds, but its strangely satisfying. Anything from Peace Sells, Rust in Peace, Pantera or Slayer (especially the obscure tracks on Reign in Blood like Jesus Saves) I'll watch. In Fact there's a lot of unmined songs on all those big albums. Reactors seem to go for the already trodden ground. Where as there's so much left virtually untouched.
Daves voice should grow on ya.My favorite album is Peace Sells. So much so I had a graphics place turn that album cover into a black and white then i had them cover my entire targa top to my C5 Vette
I discovered this song at the age of 20 in 2002. I immediately printed out the guitar tabs and purchased an 8ball of cocaine with the intention of learning this song. After about four hours I gave up, stated drinking beers and playing Tony Hawk and decided I probably wasn’t gonna be able to learn this song.
Looking down the cross , black friday or my last words , set the world afire ( theres a short instrumental called into the lungs of hell thats the track before it that plays as a great intro ) and five magics i think are the best songs off the first 4 albums
When you take a trip down the Megadeth rabbit hole, you will never be the same again. Megadeth has put out both great Thrash and Heavy Metal. If you like 'Holy Wars...' then check out 'Hangar 18' with more solos than most bands put on an entire album, 'Take No Prisoner', Thrash which doesn't quit or 'Lucretia', the riffs laid out with a killer groove feel then ends with two great solos. With older Megadeth from the 80's, the songs are rawer and they grab you by the short hairs and kick you in the ass. 'Wake Up Dead' , 'Devil's Island', 'Good Mourning/Black Friday' and 'My Last Words' off the second album are musts to listen to eventually. One thing to remember when pulling up Megadeth, most of the Remastered versions are not as good as the original albums, so try to stay away from those.
I have listened to Megadeth since enteering my early teens, I am now in my mid thirties but, I get ear fatigue and burn out after listening to a few songs, with the one exception of being United Abominations - that album I can listen all the way through. I think there are better examples of 'short-hairs gripping bands', for example: Toranaga, Myramainz, Fallen Angel, Forced Entry etc. That is just me though
On the positive side, I get to watch you react to a lot more songs by Megadeth (hopefully). Megadeth my all time favorite band. Song suggestions,....lemme see,.....well, the entire album Rust in Peace is a must listen. Classic/fan favorites include Symphony of Destruction, Sweating Bullets, In My Darkest Hour, Peace Sells,....But Who's Buying?, Wake Up Dead, Angry Again. Additionally, I suggest the song that finally won a Grammy for Dave, Dystopia. There are more for sure but that should get you started.
Tons of pro Thrash guitarists have stated that without Dave Mustaine, Thrash metal wouldn't exist. He was light years ahead of other guitarists in the genre.
Great reaction, I recommend from the peace sells album “my last words” or “devils island” also from the rust in peace album probably “take no prisoners” or “tornado of souls” 😎
Thanks! The song is "Shroud Clown" by - Dillon Knighton. It's a downloadable track from Epidemicsound.com I have an account there so I can use the music there for my RUclips videos. I don't think it's an established band lol. Probably just one dude
Just a heads up if you choose to explore the rust in peace album, the remastered versions of the songs are way way worse. The original versions are leaps beyond better. (Megadeth is my favorite band)
Also my personal favorite and recommendation from the album would be five magics. But in all honesty it’s just the greatest metal album of all time imo. Not a bad song on it.
My favorite concert I think it was 91’ was Clash of the Titans (Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer) and it was amazing! 🍺🥴🤘🏻Anyways you should definitely check out more Megadeth. ‘The Conjuring’ was always one of my favorites.🍺😁🤘🏻
Listen to the whole album ''Rust in Peace''. Legit 10/10 album. PS dont react to 2004 remasters and the Hangar 18 music video (because it got cut short)
That's my favorite Slayer album! I probably won't react to it since I've already heard the songs. Thanks though for the suggestion and feel free to send me others you think of.
I jumped on board with Megadeth after Symphony of Destruction landed and grabbed the Countdown album. Still an amazing album that I listen to to this day. However, I then bought and listened to Hanger, So Far, and Peace Sells (the next albums I purchased), I have to be honest, I was disappointed with the vocals. The music was amazing, but I just could not understand the nasally, squeaky voice. Then again, at the time, I thought all metal had to be sung doomy and gloomy - dark, gritty, raspy vocals - so I wasn't even able to appreciate Iron Maiden, whose album Somewhere in Time I picked up around the same time. Yup! I was a dumb kid - and I'm not afraid to admit it! I just didn't "get it". I also didn't like Pink Floyd or The Beatles either (Pink Floyd actually scared me with their heavy subject matter but beautiful musicianship - that dissonance was genuinely frightening - now they are one of my all time, top bands and I own every album). Luckily, in my twenties, I came around and fell in love with all music and recognized how we got here and the brilliance of all these musicians. I am still a bit of a vocals snob - sorry Cannibal Corpse, the barking into a mic just isn't doing it for me (although I don't know if I want to _hear_ their lyrics either...double-edged sword there! 🤣). Anyway, Dave's voice has definitely changed, and the '80's stuff is him at his nasally, squeaky peak. But his live stuff now sounds great! Obviously, one's voice lowers as we age, and it has served him well! And thank god we didn't lose him or his voice when he got throat cancer a few years back. Keep rockin', Dave! 🤘🤘🤘 Hey look! A whole post about Megadeth and Dave and I didn't mention Metalica once! DOH! So close!🤣🤣🤣
And to think Metallica kicked Dave Mustain out of the band. Thankfully he created megadeth. Good band to go deep on. I hope you didn't miss pantera. Good luck dude
In certain circles "Rust in Peace" is considered the holy grail of thrash metal albums!
I'll definitely have to react to those!
It should be in all circles. This is the best thrash album, top to bottom. It's not close.
I belong to that circle
Alongside Reign In Blood and maybe Judas Priest Stained Class. \m/
I'm in that circle....
Megadeth's catalog of heaviness is unmatched. Sorry Metallica.
Oooooh! Shots fired! lol. Thanks for the comment! :D
I completely agree
They didn't do hardrock megadeth's rust in peace line up is top tier
Don't be sorry, Dave wrote most of meatlickas best stuff 😅
Metallifags sold out after Justice. First time I heard Sandman I wrote them off. Megadeth however......
Bro, Megadeth is mandatory metal.
Indeed. I've always known about them, I just never got around to listening to them. More Megadeth reactions on the way!
@@palskee I’d suggest adding Anthrax to the list as well.
@@shmick6079 Done!
'Good Mourning/Black Friday' you'll see what true 80s intensity sounds like
Can't wait! Thanks!
I can remember being a young kid in the 80s and hearing wake up dead for the first time. I was hooked after that
It is a kick ass song that's for sure! The video adds a lot to the bad assery of it also lol.
Dave's last solo in this song melts people's faces 🤘 Have fun going down the Megadeth rabbit hole, buckle up, hold on, and enjoy the ride🤘

This is the best intro song to a thrash album EVER.

"Good Mourning...Black Friday"

@palskee just not the video version, you have to listen to the album or live versions.
My favorite Megadeth song of all time is Lucretia, off of Rust in Peace. The groove, plus the solos... Masterclass in metal.
You gotta check out “Peace Sells....but Who’s Buying”........EPIC!
Will do!
First song on the legendary Rust In Peace album. Might as well keep going on the album. Every song is absolutely perfection
Hell yeah!
