    Dude you are absolutely brilliant. I came across your channel because im getting into tie dye and I cant believe there's someone like you who can figure out how to make all of these beautiful patterns by folding and tying fabric. Mega props to you and thank you!

    Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Please don't in any way take this as a criticism but it blows my mind that you always make so many mistakes but your tie-dyes always come out so awesome. It actually helps us know how to correct our mistakes it does me anyway. Actually now that I'm thinking about it other dyers who do videos probably make just as many mistakes but they probably just edit them out but I'm glad you don't. Also if I can make a suggestion...I found these markers on Amazon that can be erased with heat so when you do make a mistake that requires you to draw a new line you can just hit the messed up one with an iron and then you wouldn't have so many likes to try to keep up with they are called friction colors

    Agree BRILLIANT! Yin and Yang symbol tied inside the tied circle. Black muck unites the design. Unique and very cool. Thank you for sharing the thought process ... I would be lost without it.

      Some require more precision than others. And, I'd argue that I have "lazy precision" -- I nit pick some things and completely ignore other glaring issues. ;)

    How many grams of powder is used to make just one T-shirt?

    • @CasualCollisions
      @CasualCollisions  3 года назад +1

      I don't keep track of dye usage per shirt/design - I only keep track for inventory purposes every quarter. Based on that, my average is about 50 cents of dye per shirt and I buy dye in 1 pound+ bulk containers.

    This may be a stupid question, but is there a particular reason for ice dying certain designs rather than liquid dying them?

    • @CasualCollisions
      @CasualCollisions  5 лет назад

      I prefer ice dying in most cases because of the increased saturation and depth of color. The only time I opt for liquid dye is if I need more precise placement or a field of another color (such as black) to cover the "background". Really, it's just a personal choice.

    • @LisasDistraction
      @LisasDistraction 5 лет назад

      @@CasualCollisionsthank you. Is the increased saturation because of the amount of dye powder used with ice dying?

    Hello,
    I'm in need of some HELP PLEASE!
    I have watched your videos and done some tye dyed shirts but they keep fading badly in the wash, even after the soda ash and everything you've taught me.I haven't watched all of them but could you please tell me how to keep this from happening???!! Please!!!

    • @CasualCollisions
      @CasualCollisions  5 лет назад +2

      Without knowing every step of your process, it would be difficult to make a guess; but, here are some things to keep in mind:
      PRE-WASH the shirts to remove any sizing or other additives the manufacturer used on the shirts -- even if it's a "prepared for dye"/PFD version of the shirt. Some people use synthrapol to make sure everything is stripped out. I've never seen the need and a good, hot wash does it for me.
      Use Procion Dye and mix it with distilled or de-ionized water. Chlorine and chloramine used by your cities water supply will effect the saturation of the dye.
      Make sure your washing machine isn't rinsing the fabric when you set it to "spin only" to remove the soda ash before tieing. Some washers (our last Whirlpool, for instance) forced a rinse cycle before the spin cycle. I shut the water off to the washing machine when I needed to spin out a shirt.
      Let the shirt "batch" for at least 18-24 hours after you apply the liquid or AFTER the ice melts. And, it needs to be at least 75F during that process. The hotter (while not letting the material dry out), the better.
      During the rinse-out in the sink, start with cold water until the soda ash has been washed out. Then, switch to hot water to help make sure the dye is set.
      Some people use a dye fixative after the rinse-out. I haven't found a need to do that.

      Maybe my problem is that in using the only dye I can find around me, Rit Dye.
      I let it set for 24 hours after applying the dye and them rinsed in cold. I didn't rinse in hot water though. Thank you very much for your help! What company do you order your tye dye supplies from?
