Hi Crispy! You are so awesome to share your knowledge with us. You inspired us to make a few of your tie dyes and we LOVE them. I freaking harnessed space and was inspired while making some really cool art. Our kids shine brightly in them to school, everyday. They love them. Looks like you are up in BC or so, come down and visit us in Eastern Oregon, John Day country anytime. Thank you for sharing! We are fans.
Hi. We love your tutorials and made some nice shirts this past weekend. Though our blackhole shirt came out awesome our black faded to gray even after soaking in salt ash and sitting for 24 hours with the colors. Where do you get your black? We live in Hawaii and all we could find are Tulip or Rit dyes. Thank you.
If I were doing this with a shirt split down the middle white/black and wanted to do this one side and the exact opposite with bleach dye on the other side how do you think I'd fold, flip, and spray the shirt?
Quite simply-- play around. Tie dye is beautiful accidents. Try new combinations to see what kind of design it makes, then refine what you discover. It's pure colourful magic.
I just loving it how i can used my zip ties to folded it up white single piece of t-shirt, So i can make the Purple Hole while i am literally gonna used Deep Purple, Bright Green, Lite Orange, Darker Red, and probably used with Cardinal Red and Burgundy color if it needs to putting on a test-run added with a paper towel i will maybe put some Purple, Green, & Red on it.
Hello, first of all I want to congratulate you for your fabulous work and thank you for sharing it. Just a question what type of paint or dye do you use?
Heh, riiight. Janki, I most certainly owe you an apology. I thought you were asking how to fold the black hole, so answering with words seemed silly. I suppose it makes much more sense that you're asking how to fold it in half, in which case the answer is most definitely yes, like the psychedelic shirt. Sorry for being the fool. Thanks for rattling' my noggin Arctic Art.
AAAAAA sorry for the late comment but do you pour the colors perpendicular or parallel to the elastics in order to get the vertical lines like the thumbnail?
With that many it depends largely on how much you conserve and what styles you're doing, but if you ask whoever your supplier is they should have a better idea than me... I tend to do small batches.
The colour's the same, but if you don't do the inside-out trick then either the front or back of your shirt is going to be lopsided. It ensures that both sides have a proper mirrored effect down the middle. :)
Sodium carbonate. Mix one cup of it with one gallon of water and soak all tie dye in it for at least 30 min before dying, this is what chemically bonds the dye to the fabric.
Your work is the best man! Can i soak more than one shirt in the same soda ash solution (one after another) or will it make the second one be less effective? And do you use urea too on that solution?
You can certainly use the same soda ash over and over till it's gone, even the stuff that's been squeezed out of other shirts when they're done soaking.
I want to do this like now. Terrific effect! I have to ask before i purchase my cart at Dharma: Is 20 Mule Team Borax the same as Soda Ash? Thank you so much for your time and sharing your extreme talent. :)
Any shirt made of natural fibres (cotton, silk, rayon, etc) will work, but not unnatural ones like polyester, you need a different form of dye for that.
It's called "procion" dye which is a cold process. Do not try this with RIT or TULIP dyes...won't work. Multiple brands of procion - make sure you follow manufacturers instructions!
That's sinew my friend, it's a waxed cord that makes things really tight, so it helps especially with that inner circle. It's available online, but in a pinch you can use floss. After that I use elastics just because it's quicker and doesn't make much difference at that point.
Hey mate, you're brilliant. I've spent some time scrolling through every single comment in this video and part II as well but I couldn't find the answer I'm looking for. I tried to read the label in the vid but it's a bit blurred. I'd like to know from what company did you buy this T-shirt? Would you enlight me on this? Cheers
Can you please make a design on some tapestry? I've been watching a lot of tutorials on RUclips but your designs are the best I've seen; I would love to do patterns like these on square and/or rectangle fabrics. Please and thank you!
I love how detailed you are with your explanations as to why you’re doing certain things. Thank you! 🙏🏼❤️
Yes
Where are you crispy!! Waiting for new tutorials. You are absolutely the best teacher with super great designs
Brill. I love how you got straight to the point, gave very clear instructions and didnt gibber on for the first 10 mins . Thanks , great vid

This is the most awkward technique to make a circle on tie dye hahahaha
Thank you.
What's the thing you tied at the first markings? Before you started using elastics
Hi! The video is great, but I have a question. I did it, and after washing the color dulls a bit, how can I make the color look good?
YOu are one of the best imaginative tye dyers I have watched. Keep up the good work.
@Lithus17
Its also a skill already, plus its not about making circles, It's also about coloring but more than that Is being creative.
how do you make a black hole tie dye shirt? hope you respond. THANKS
What's your size on your 100% Cotton of Hanes Heavyweight.??
What products or color brand do you use?
Your an absolute G.. I must have watched these vids 50 times each.. so helpful.. do you still make shirts. Where can I buy one.???
Bro!!
how you fold the shirt?
Do you fold normal or do you have to put the sleeve inside the other?
If I were doing this with a shirt split down the middle white/black and wanted to do this one side and the exact opposite with bleach dye on the other side how do you think I'd fold, flip, and spray the shirt?
How will one get ideas for tie dye patterns? and how will one know where to fold?
Quite simply-- play around. Tie dye is beautiful accidents. Try new combinations to see what kind of design it makes, then refine what you discover. It's pure colourful magic.
Lmao your reply reminded me of Bob Ross

Really off subject but I'm living for the crows in the background ❤
Any suggestions for the folding portion when doing this on a hoodie??
Can I do this with black and teal dye or do I really need more colors?
what type of ink you use?is that printer's ink or what??
do you do them wet or dry?
You make the coolest tie dye shirts!!! I think you should make some more tutorials on different methods like these I would totally love them
where can i buy those dyes
Nice shirts can I buy some to do screen printing on?
where do you get the dark black dye? mine is too light
Umm I'm trying to do a triangle in the center like the pink floyd prism and I can't get the fold right, advice?
In my experience it's easier to put a rubber band on first to create tension ripples. Then use your fingers to manipulate them while it's tight
Where do i buy that sinew
Or can i use twine
A Mesma Dúvida Que Tive!
Can we use rubber bands instead of sinew or floss?
You can, but they don't make as a tight of lines and tend to cause the shirts to accordion and fold over when there's too much pressure.
Okay! Thank you so much for responding.
Hello, first of all I want to congratulate you for your fabulous work and thank you for sharing it. Just a question what type of paint or dye do you use?
How'd you fold your shirt? They way you folded the pshyedellic shirt?
Janki Patel Just watch the video, my friend~
+Crispy wow. i think that really helped him :l
Can I do this with a towel ?
Dose it glow forever??
Where do you get your dyes. I'm looking for higher quality dyes that are more vibrant longer.
How do you make black dye?
Does this need to be soaked in soda ash? Is there a difference if I don't soak it on soda ash?
In the beginning of the video on the right he says its was soaked in it before the video.
Yes, the washing soda (sodium carbonate) is vital to fix the dye to fabric.
Where would I get sinew...looked everywhere, can't find it.
I get mine from Dharma Trading Co.... in a pinch though, you could use waxed dental floss
this is so trippy and you did so good on it
AAAAAA sorry for the late comment but do you pour the colors perpendicular or parallel to the elastics in order to get the vertical lines like the thumbnail?
Oh whoops there's a part 2!
I did it almost as good as you lol different colors though. thanks for the tutorials they're really good.
hey i want to know how to put the colors on the tshirt
Beautiful man. Do you use procion dyes? where is the best place to buy in bulk. I tye dye frequently.
Try Dharma Trading.
Grateful dyes have amazing fiber reactives too and are cheaper than Dharma
Do u do a long sleeve the same way to?
Your a good teacher, I enjoy watching your vids, do more, I'll watch definitely, thank you!
can you do a jacket?
Do you make your dye?
Hey man how can I do this with socks @crispy
How well does this stuff sell?
can you tell me how the tshirts - in this technology - fixed ?
what do you mean
It is procion dye which is "fixed" by pretreatment with washing soda (sodium carbonate).
That's to say that all shirts are pre-soaked in a soda ash solution (1cup to 1gallon water), then spun or wrung out. This fixes the procion dye.
sounds like that crow is diggin the black hole
Cool
skatelife2013caw caw ima tie die hemp shirts
Hey crispy, what amount soda ash and dye's do I need to make 100 tie dye shirts? Thanks
With that many it depends largely on how much you conserve and what styles you're doing, but if you ask whoever your supplier is they should have a better idea than me... I tend to do small batches.
1 gallon water, 1 cup sod carb will treat about 10 shirts if you wring shirt back into bucket.
Great shirt....Love it! What black do you use? I noticed dharma has several options.
I use New Black. I mix it at 4x the regular potency then add a little Navy Blue to even it out.
Thanks! Keep up the great work! Looking forward to more great videos
i want to do this, please tell me how the shirt is folded at the very beginning
He explains it in this video I think:
ruclips.net/video/rsGEZqQxdtI/видео.html
do you sell that shirt?
does it make a difference in the color if u 'Don't' fold it inside out?
The colour's the same, but if you don't do the inside-out trick then either the front or back of your shirt is going to be lopsided. It ensures that both sides have a proper mirrored effect down the middle. :)
Is the shirt inside out ?
Which paint are you ising
Pls I want your reply to my question
What kinda shirts do u use
You didn't soak in Soda Ash first before folding?
It was soaked in soda ash before the video. It says so on the right in the beginning, but it's not overly obvious, I should probably change that.
+Crispy whats soda ash
Sodium carbonate. Mix one cup of it with one gallon of water and soak all tie dye in it for at least 30 min before dying, this is what chemically bonds the dye to the fabric.
Do you have any for sell
PEOPLE LEARN WHAT GOOGLE IS FOR ! These guys are great for sharing their designs, on the rest of it think for your selves.
Is the shirt dry?
Is there a specific way to fold it?
perfectly in half
How can i by the diy wer can i get the diy
can anyone tell me what kind of ingredients I can use for this?
I want to do this like now. Terrific effect! I have to ask before i purchase my cart at Dharma: Is 20 Mule Team Borax the same as Soda Ash? Thank you so much for your time and sharing your extreme talent. :)
No, buy sodium carbonate from Dharma.
Sodium carbonate is washing soda or soda ash...
weather is crappy today, so I'm gonna do this with my kids. even if it turns out poorly, it should still be fun
What do you wash your shirts with after they are complete?
About 2 teaspoons of synthrapol
I love your tutorial. Thanks, I'm crispy now!(subbed) doesn't seem like the first time... this could be the last time...I don't know.
can I do black vans like this ?
use white one or bleach parts of the black ones
You make pleating look easy. I seriously suck at that part.
Hey, what king of ink do you recommend to tie dye?
Procion MX
The coloured one
why does it matter to use sinew or floss on the first tie
Sinew will pull much tighter in a specific spot.
thanks for the reply
also can you use any plain tshirt? which do you recommend?
amazing design!
Any shirt made of natural fibres (cotton, silk, rayon, etc) will work, but not unnatural ones like polyester, you need a different form of dye for that.
I used polyester and it washed
Any brand of dye you prefer
Do I even attempt to try this..?
Yo wth I was waiting to see the finished product at the end lol I was so excited to see how dope it was gonna turn out
Second part
hey, listen, my english isnt good, what kind of thing did you use to pain the t shirt? is it something specific?
just dye specifically for tie dye. just look online and you can find all sorts of colors and brands
It's called "procion" dye which is a cold process. Do not try this with RIT or TULIP dyes...won't work. Multiple brands of procion - make sure you follow manufacturers instructions!
Your English is on point, but I don't know the answer to your question lol.
What string type to tie material.
P.S. then you use rubberbands :\
That's sinew my friend, it's a waxed cord that makes things really tight, so it helps especially with that inner circle. It's available online, but in a pinch you can use floss. After that I use elastics just because it's quicker and doesn't make much difference at that point.
Well I thought we'd see the finished product or at least the coloring lol

Cheers
And what type of cotton?
what is that pen you're using to trace the container?
you use WASHABLE markers to draw ANY of your markings for tie-dye.
what black dye did you use
I used New Black** from Dharma Trading Co 8)
It feels like there's instructions missing between the 1st wrap to the second and so forth. I Gotta start over LOL
The Surgeon's knot is also called the fisherman's knot.

Madisin Harris how much? Do u have a website?
Thank you so much! I did a different color scheme and it turned out awesome!
Can you please make a design on some tapestry? I've been watching a lot of tutorials on RUclips but your designs are the best I've seen; I would love to do patterns like these on square and/or rectangle fabrics. Please and thank you!
