UPDATE: CHEVY BOUGHT BACK THE TRUCK IN 2020 AS THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION.
I wish that on the 2019 since there is a button that it would disable it until you turn it back on. It re enables every time it is restarted, making it really annoying. It will wear out your starter very quick. Have not found a way to turn it off permenantly, I'm sure there is some way to do it.
Andy's Shop I’m not sure either I love my truck but it’s annoying that they implement all these things just to satisfy EPA
Sucks for me. I have to sleep in my truck at work and even with it disabled it will still shut off after about an hour of idling. Chevy told me it was supposed to keep idling so maybe it's just my truck
@@alexkkzz Sleep at work? Great job!
@@lastcall170 thanks for the compliment ! Not everyone can do it like that for 6 years and counting..
@@alexkkzz mine shuts off to 15 minutes
Well that sounds a little extreme. They also make a harness you can install to disable this feature. Or you just simply turn the switch off each time you drive
there is not an off switch
@@Malibuflatliner
What year is that truck?
Kind of a dumb feature really. Think of how many times your starter has to turn the engine over even on a short trip thru town. Whatever gas you save will be offset when the starter goes bad prematurely from excessive wear in a short period of time, not to mention the labor to replace it if you can't do it yourself.
I totally agree with you luckily I had Chevy buy the truck back at no cost to me after over a year of fighting with them and was able to get out of the truck.
@@Malibuflatliner I have a 97 Suburban and a 98 GMC pickup from back when GM made decent vehicles. Scotty Kilmer, a 50 year mechanic, says GM has been going down in quality for years and it is obvious for many GM owners are having problems even before they hit 100k miles.
yes totally agree with you@@Kurtdog63
It would be easier if GM would just not put that crap on its cars and trucks to begin with. GM don't make trucks for the consumer any more.
But they have to follow updated emissions standards
thank the Obama administration for that mandatory regulation.
get an OBD2 code scanner that can change parameters computer drive options and turn it OFF cause its dangerous in traffic pulling out onto busy roads
Nice try. The EPA is not stupid. If you could turn it off with the scanner everyone would.
Actually I have found many manufacturers let u turn it off permanently and certainly with advanced dual mode OBD tech scanners .
Actually I have found many Mfers let u turn it off permanently and certainly with advanced dual mode OBD tech scanners .

Just push the tow/haul button on the shifter, it will turn off the auto start stop!
What the button look like
Not all Silverados have that button.
I have a 2019 LTZ without the "M" driving mode, so how would i turn off this start on/ off feature?
sorry i am not sure :/
@@Malibuflatliner i figured it out. There is a toggle switch to turn it on and off
THIS AUTO START STOP FEATURE MIGHT SAVE YOU 3 PERCENT TOTAL GAS IN ONE WHOLE YEAR...
...BUT IT WILL PUT A TOTAL WEAR DOWN ON YOUR STARTER MOTOR OVER THE SAME YEAR...
...AND WILL NEGATE ANY GAS SAVINGS YOU MIGHT GET...;;--(,,,,,,,
Cars with the auto start stop technology also come with beefier and more expensive starters that they claim last for 10 times more starts along with the main battery being either AGM or EFB technology to handle the increased number of starts. Other affected engine components are also beefed up for this technology.
It's annoying as hell to hear the engine start up everytime you pull away from a stop.
2014 malibu same shit and is horrible tried putting it in m and can only go to m2 any suggestions or ideas worst thing to add to a vehicle
Thank you so much for this video man. I was experiencing the same thing in my 2018. Did driving in M8 gear stop it for good for you? Did your gas mileage go down? And lastly, I don’t know how to drive in manual, will driving in M8 be the same as driving in automatic? Thank you again for the info man!
No problem :), m8 did stop it for good for me the gas mileage did go down about one or two mpg I believe because it does disable the auto start the whole time you are using the truck but I'm not positive, I will do some more driving around and keep track of the mpg while it's on and while it's disabled, and yes it's just like an automatic putting it up to M8 allows the transmission to use all 8 of your gears. Try it out and let me know how it works out for you glad it helped.
The 2018 Silverado did not have start/stop.
@@MrSmartass89
My 2015 doesn't have it either, but my 2016 impala does total BS.
@@Malibuflatliner M8 does not mean that you are allowing your transmission to drive in all 8 gears. Its for shifting manually. if you are actually driving you can shift the trucks transmission by cycling through the gears - for example pulling a trailer with tow haul mode and hill decent you can engage grade braking by using the transmission - or down shifting for higher rpms while towing a heavy load. Luckily the truck is smart enough to not let you start out in 8th gear, you would blow the transmission up. Try that in an actual manual see how it works out for you.
Yes it does. I own one. It’s called eAssist and it sucks.
So, my vehicle does have an M, it has an L. I'm not too car saavy so I'm not sure what the L means or if I should you it. Any idea?
Damon Nelson I believe L is a low gear if you could email me a picture shawnshepherdjr@gmail.com I may be able to better assist
Shawns Life I've been trying to do some research on RUclips and everyone is saying one of two ways to stop it: turn the A/C mode to yellow and also drive it in L6. Seems to work so far. Have you tried any of these?
Damon Nelson I don't have an L option on my truck for me it's M , the a/c option works as well but I use M mode instead that way I don't have to have my a/c on if I don't want it to be blowing air
Yeah and I just tried it again and it turned off with that feature so I can get rid of that one. The L feature works alot better. I just have to find which one works best. Some say 6, 9 (I don't have this one), and also 8 as you pointed out.
Damon Nelson my transmission is an 8 speed transmission that's why I use 8 so it's in the highest gear and can get the best mpg you can adjust this down if your just doing city driving to whatever is most comfortable for you
Shit, mine shuts off with the AC on but will start back up after a few seconds when the air Starts to get warm
Slopoke if you put it in manual mode it will shut off so just put it in M and then shift all the way up don’t worry it won’t leave you in gear 8 shifting all the way up just let’s you use all 8 gears while shifting without having to shift up or downshift
Yeah the AC on don’t stop my 21 RST from doing it.
My truck don’t have that M
I has to stay at M everytime you drive? Because I have a M on my Chevy Malibu and I also got auto stop and I hate it but this video was even tho I don't got a Silverado lol
well you can still drive in D but you cant turn the auto stop off depending on the year. I believe the 2020 models have a button to turn it off
Is there any coding app for Chevy/GMC?
My friend has a new 2019 GMC Acadia and he hate this star/stop system.
I had same problem with my BMW but I solved it with Bimmer code app in 1 minute. So if is there any app for coding Chevy/GMC that would be easier solution.
Stanislav Tureček I’m not positive glad you were able to fix it on the Beamer
Can you disable the air turning on when you remote start the pickup? I really don’t like the air automatically turning on, this is really gonna suck during the winter if it doesn’t put out hot air!
al last not positive let me look into it for you
B.s. it shuts off in drive with a.c. on all the time
Do you know how to disable the speed limiter? or can a tuner remove it?
-MAFIOSO- what is yours limited at and yes a tuner will remove it though I wouldn’t advise driving the stock truck at high “racing” speeds for long periods of time.
Trifecta or BNR make a tuner.
You can do it in the setting on the truck
What does it shut down at? I had mine to about 106 or 7 and didn’t shut down. I’m just wondering what it will go to. I don’t have anywhere nearby to get it any faster to see lol. I live in the mountains.
I have a 2020 Silverado and my auto stop stoped working…
sorry to hear i did get chevy to buy back my truck have you contacted them yet ?
ITS NOT REALLY A FIX. PUTTING THE TRUCK IN M MODE HAS MORE STEPS AS SIMPLY PUSHING THE AUTO STOP BUTTON.
Just pull the fuse out 🤔
Isn’t that bad for your transmission tho?
12 skits not at all :)
Wanted to watch but couldn't make it through your mumble rap intro
Ahhh I’m sorry
Aaron Green fuckin boomer
I hate whenever ford gets copied by gm because this auto start stop feature is so annoying
Actually they were both late to the game (which is par for the course) and first introduced this wonderful 'new' technology already used around the world in 2012.
At least ford gives you an off button
I don’t get it this video
Mine broke in a week....yay
Wow that was a complete waste of time watching. Way easier to just hit the button on the dash to shut it off . I want to permanently shut it off
There is no button on the dash to shut it off. It’s not an option. This and the A.C. method are the only workarounds to make auto off stop.
@Malibuflatliner You shouldn't be starting in 8th gear man or let alone be telling others. M8 does not mean that you are allowing your transmission to drive in all 8 gears. Try taking off in 5th gear in an actual manual see how it works out for you.
You're wrong
Definitely wrong. I do m7 every day to disable auto start/stop and v4 mode. It runs through the gears as normal even with tow/haul and hill decent. The truck doesn’t start in 8th gear, it starts in 1st gear and climbs it’s way to whatever you have it set as. I’ve been doing this for 30k+ and my ‘18 is fine.
While you can indeed shift gears this way as the others have said if it is in m7 or 8 it will start in 1st and work it's way through. It's not a manual it's an automatic with the option to change gears as you see fit. Not when the car decides based on foot feed travel and rpm
You did state this, but your comment about telling people to not do that is redundant in itself by saying this.
video ok except annoying Loud music at intro ... makes no difference if AC on or off, still turns off at stop
