    We have a 2019 Equinox, using this trick for 3 years now, works great. Also when you get to a winding mountain road, I select 3, better handling and saves the brakes. I was a mechanic for 35 years, I can tell you disable auto stop, it will save you from having future problems, that are related to the auto stop system. 🤓

    Omg, this such a life saver! My car was stopping, stalling, and just plain turned off at a stop/stop light saying my battery was on auto saver but yet had the battery and alternator checked, and all was good, yet it kept acting up all last week and this morning. I was so bummed and embarrassed when it stopped, I found this video about 7-8 months ago and tried what was instructed on the video because i hate this feature that chevy has added to this model and im sure other models too. Anyhoo, I didn't worry about it so much until this morning when my car went out, yet the battery is good. Well, I finally put this advice to work today and no stalling, no automatic shut off, turn on (I hate), no shutting down completely at a stop, I'm absolutely happy, chevy wanted to charge me $180.00 for a diagnostic test and to change my battery with installation would have costed $220.00. I will run this for now on in this mode and give an update in a week 🎉🌸

    This is fine as it works in neutral as well, but this is my wife's 2015 Malibu LS. It needs to be simple like a single ground input into the PCM. As an ASE Master Tech since retired, working on GM's is easy with global architecture. My dealer buddies retired or quit the dealer after management was placed under probation with funny money and selling out of state. 7+ teach for ACDelco and holding seminars, my "Stand-Alone" CD's I loaded in my laptop go to 2004 then stops. Trucks currently have a button to cancel. I will keep looking until I walk into a dealer's shop cold and see if an unused cavity in the schematic at the PCM needs a wire to ground signal.

    Yes, any other gear than “D” for drive cancels the auto stop/start mode. Just like it says in the owners manual that the used car manager throws away in case it has the previous owners name, address, service records or mileage that can be rolled backwards with a $300 Chinese made eBay tool. You are welcome! ASE Master Tech since 1978-Retired

    Auto Stop??!! What a brilliant over-enginerring breakthrough!!! You’re going to spend just as much money trying to “save” on fuel, for new or remanufactured starters very often, as the auto stop feature stops the vehicle, and the starter has to start it, much more often, shortening its lifespan significantly. That doesn’t include the costs of shop labor, for the mechanic to installing them. The slightest movement from your foot off the brake pedal, triggers the starter to start the engine again.

    When you come to a stop just put it into neutral, then when you're ready to go put it into drive. You don't have to do all that other stuff. That way when you get on the highway you won't forget to put in into drive to use the overdrive because otherwise your car will run at the gear you have it on and stay there until you change it. On the HWY you want the car in the drive position

    For the folks concerned that auto stop will wear out your starter quicker just google it and you will learn that it does not. The modern starters work differently than the old starters did and most of the wear on a starter brushes does not occur during the crank but in the starter wind down after the engine is running and with an already hot engine this is significantly decreased. Since I do a lot of stop and go driving with a lot of red light time involved I will leave mine active to get every bit of fuel savings I can.

      Great question , that is the purpose of L, to control the gears manually, driving up mountains you want to set it for 3 maybe, that will tell the vehicle to only use the first 3 gears ( which are the strongest gears) but since here we are setting the highest gear, the vehicle uses all of them as normal

    • @MrCastroFPS
      @MrCastroFPS  3 года назад

      That is correct, but to be more specific, it allows you to manually SET the highest gear allowed to use. For example, if I set it on two while pulling something uphill, the vehicle will only use first and second gear. So if you set it to the highest gear your car have, it will shift all gears as normal

    This works on my 2019 Equinox 2.0 turbo after I did it for a while I don't even have to think about it, that's just how I drive every time. Oddly enough my 2017 Malibu (same engine and trans) doesn't have the Stop/Start feature so I don't have to do this. We had a 2015 Malibu with that we let the Stop/Start do it's thing on and it did save gas but then came the $1200 repair to replace the starter and extra battery. Geerrrrrrr! 🤬 I hate stuff that claims to save money but just creates a big time-bomb expense that has to be paid all at once.

    Question. Once you accomplish disengaging the auto stop, do you keep it in the L gear? If so, will it remain the same once you stop the engine, or do you have to go thru the whole procedure again? I also noticed that as you were driving, the gear indicator remained at 9. Does it ever change by itself?

    • @tragadocious-6357
      @tragadocious-6357 Год назад

      If you select 9, it will go through every gear like normal. You are only selecting the maximum gear it can take. I think you will have to put it in low and select your max gear everytime.

    Ty. Ty. Ty. Ty. But sometimes during auto stop it jerks the wheel to straight position and even sometimes a/c slows or car and radio completely stall for split second. Today when it did it my sound from radio or voice control phone calls . Nothing for sound worked after a half hour or so I started it and it worked. Got to get this fixed as I just bought car 31 days ago w 30 day warranty.

      My 2017 malibu I just bought 40 days ago with 30 day warranty and does EXACTLY the same thing but funny it conveniently started like 3 weeks after I bought it with just the wheel jerking straight. Then radio cut out for split second also. Then radio cut out for half hour. And now every 3rd or fourth time I start it I need a jump. Even if I've been driving for hours and shut off for a second and try to start and just clicks.

      When u drive in low mode it's a pain in the ass and if u have it in 9th gear it loses a ton of performance. Unless u shift at 1 and go up it doesn't take off nearly as fast u have to wait to go into gear. Also I feel like it fucks up transmission when I go back to drive I'm starting to get skipping.

    Do you have to put your car in L9 gear each time you start your car and use L vs D while driving? or is this a one-time thing (my apologies if you addressed this in your tutorial, I'm just not 100% on that) I just purchased a 2020 Traverse I noticed I'm using close to what I did (in fuel) as I did with my Tahoe. I'm hoping this will help. Auto stop is a little annoying when you drive SoCal traffic. Thanks!

    L is when you want & need a boost in speed or you're pulling a heavy load so your motor doesn't stress out. L can also be used to slow down. Most of the time it will take a minimum of 5mph off your speed. Trust me... I've dodged a lot of tickets.
