    I think the land scape on the cover of Wind and Turth is a combination of all three realms. I think represent that when the dule is happening there is going to a fight between going in each realm. I am picturing something like the final battle from the Jedi Returns.

      Oh definitely some return of the Jedi paralel battles going on. (but Dalinar isn't going to return). It occurs to me that we've been told Oathgate platforms can switch places with each other without going to Urithiru, and we haven't seen that happen yet. So I think a direct transfer between Azir and Narak is going to happen. Though which direction, I'm not sure.

      @@TheDiabeticGameMaster Not really, we have a WOB stating that the Rhyshadium go to the Beyond after death. And we know that they have a spren bond in the physical realm similar to a Chasmfiend (or other megafauna on Roshar). I would not be surprised if the Rhyshadium also end up having a gemheart and were altered by Cultivation to be able to do this. If there is a spren in the gemheart then in Shadesmar the Spren would have to exist in the same space as the horse body (unlike the Spren of the Radiants) and thus give the whole after-image glow that the Rhyshadium exhibit in shadesmar.

    When I read the word “substantiation,” my mind went to the Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation in which Eucharist becomes the body of Christ.

      Same here! Though that word as used by my home-boy St. Thomas Aquinas is derived from Plato's teachings. (Transubstantiation being when an object changes substance without changing accidents. I'm 100% sure Syl is going to become a full on human at this point. She seems to have a particular fondness for humans and curiosity about what it is like to be a human. I suspect she doesn't want to be a demigod. All the time now she seems to want to be in full sized human form and appear to people. Clearly not all spren do this, not to mention the fact that she was the first honorspren to bond a human in centuries in defiance of all the other honorspren. The one Syl chapter we have seems to have some pretty big hints on reread as well. She has several thoughts along the lines of how she doesn't like how humans treat her as a spren. She wonders what it would be like to be a tuber. (I think this is actually a metaphor for her wondering what it is like to be a human with the context of the chapter being all about her wanting to feel what Kal feels) She thinks about how intelligent spren were created and whether she could help the lesser spren become "smart". She spends a lot of effort trying to hold onto thoughts which is apparently difficult for spren. I think this is her holding what humans have in high regard. She reflects on the purpose of spren. She tells the stormfather that all he does is blow. When she talks to the stormfather she insists on holding her human form when in the chapter she specifically mentions how the stormfather doesn't form a human face as he does for mortals. Sanderson has been doing this whole exploration of mortality with the Heralds, spren etc. Immortal beings in this story always seem to be insane and indifferent to suffering. There is that whole line from the Illiad about how the gods envy humans because of there mortality. I'm not sure she will do it only for Kal but it does kind of fit in with his whole return of the king arc for him to fall in love with an immortal being that gave up her immortality for him. She has already said she wanted to feel what he feels in order to help him. I'm not 100% sure syladin is happening but it seems more likely than not at this point. Also Kal just needs to fall in love. How can you be a King without a Queen? How can Kal ascend to the 5th ideal of honor when he doesn't even know what love is? It must be done.

      I suppose the Arwen analogy is slightly less depressing than the Little Mermaid. We know that Syl doesn’t take the death of her radiant well. I’m not discounting that Sanderson could make it work. But he hasn’t made it work yet. Not yet for me.

    • @oswinhull4203
      @oswinhull4203 Месяц назад +1

      @@MeMySkirtandI The little mermaid isn't immortal and wants an immortal soul which is a much different situation. With Arwen we don't get much backstory on why/how she falls in love with Aragorn. We just kind of accept that is what is. There are a lot of parallels though if you think about it. Arwen/Syl being immortal. The stormfather/elrond not accepting the relationship because Kal/Aragorn being of a race that betrayed their race. Kal has to do a side quest to face off against an ancient betrayer. Will the spren give Kal some gift reforged from the shards of an ancient weapon? Who knows.
      I admit there is still some work to do in order to make a romance between Kal and Syl but the groundwork is basically all there. They are sort of kindred spirits already. Just two attractive single people with similar values and goals. One is just a few thousand years older than the other. It would be cool to get some Syl chapters in WaT. Her story is so interesting and I'm super curious about her motivations. She is very unique among the spren. She seems to think her job is to find and prepare Honors champion. Does every spren think that is what they are doing?

    Compass theory. The knell is the point where a god died, if so there would be multiple of them. It is the point where the God died. Compass is made of metal with a piece of god metal, one that has been rare since the shattering. Adonais god metal, a piece of Adonalsium.

    My theory two separate ones, the first was that Syl will come across Ishar when Kal and Seth go to Shinovar and she finds out what he is doing and goes to volunteer herself and dies because of it. (Kal will go full dark at that point)
    The second theory is that Syl is captured and forced to become human, and it is successful. Then Sylidin can happen to everyone's dismay!

    • @MeMySkirtandI

      Both would be equally dismaying, since Brando Sando has said it's safe to name children Kaladin. (In the wake of all the unfortunate children named Danaerys). I don't think getting a human body would necessarily involve torture. The Heralds are corporeal spren, and I'm guessing Axies the collector is too. But neither seem bound to their mortal bodies in such a way that they would die. Like permanently.

    Could substantiation, which according to the words of Abidi the Monarch seems to have been banished by the ancient order of Lightweavers, be one of the powers that could lead to the destruction of Roshar, and the knowledge of which caused the ancient Radiants to decide for the Recreance? We know the powers they feared were the Dawnshards, but could the ability to create new reality at will (given enough Investiture) be another of those powers, as well? Who knows, maybe every Order could possess powers that could be really dangerous on a planetary scale if stretched to the limit of their possibilities, not just the Bondsmiths...

    • @MeMySkirtandI
      @MeMySkirtandI  Месяц назад +1

      That sounds like something the ancient radiants would believe. It seems likely that every order could have a level of skill that would threaten to tear apart the fabric of reality. In the Wheel of Time the absolutely forbidden skill was magically severing the strings of creation. Here it appears that it is forbidden to just tug on a particular string to hard, lest the whole pattern unravel. (it should be noted that I think Honor used Substantiation to create the Herald's bodies. So the power isn't necessarily evil, just it could be put to evil uses).

    If the compass points to the death of a God, and it points to something in the Cognitive Realm, then it MUST point to the deathplace of Devotion, Dominion, or both. If that's true, and it's an ancient fabrial, my theory is that it IS powered by a captured 'spren'... specifically, a seon or a skaze, depending on which it points to.
    Recall that Melishi SOMEHOW knew that spren could be captured in gemstones. Likely he was told this by Kalak, given the latter's rather amusing statement in RoW epigraphs. Melishi may have figured it out by studying the compass and realizing that a seon is 'just a spren', and thus any spren could be treated the same.
    Another possibility is that it isn't powered by a spren at all, but by the Dor, and thus points to the Dor. It wouldn't be helpful at all in Sel's Cognitive Realm, but if you're far enough away, it would certainly help, right? If it is Elantrian in origin, you'd think they'd mention strange glyphs on it, though. We know of at least one of the Ire on Roshar, so there's precedent for this.

    • @MeMySkirtandI
