Wish you lots of endurance for the PCT! Collect memories along the way :) Excited for the updates.
Pillows are SO important to a good nights sleep. They’re a necessity. Good luck to you guys. Happy trails!!
Happy Easter! Welcome back to the bay 🤙🏽 good luck to you and Nick can’t wait to witness your inspirational journey.
Can't wait to see your trail videos, hope the weather is kind to you both.
Buona Pasqua !!!! Happy Easter. Have a great time and look forward to supporting you guys along the way !!!!! Smash it guys !
Looking forward to your first video from the trail!
One day we will hike the PCT, thanks for this intro to it we found it so helpful :)
Great ideal to test everything before hitting the PCT! We flip flopped! I was in the Bay Area when I came across and subscribed to your videos. Now I’m in Chch and you’re in the Bay Area. Good luck and be very careful on the trail.
This was really helpful. The adventure begins! Can't wait to follow your journey. Bought a big PCT map!
Ooh that sounds fun!!
Have Fun !! Looking forward to following your journey
I bought the glasses case you used and recommended and it has survived multiple backpacking trips and kept my stupid expensive glasses safe and sound - so thank you for the tip, I'm very glad I saw your videos!
So glad they worked for you!
Literally, I might see you guys on the trail in Nor Cal!!!
Enjoy the journey.
Best of luck,I’ll be cheering for you guys!
Thank you!!
Good Luck Mari - Have the best time!
Nice! Looking forward to your first videos from the PCT!
My husband and I have the stratospire 2 as well and we love it! Great combo of light and roomy and the price is *more* reasonable than others like it!
Excited for your upcoming videos! Cheers from portland, OR
I'm excited for you both! Take care!
Thanks Bootsie!
Making videos on the trail is a commitment! Props to you for taking that on.
I’m going to try my best!
Best of luck Mari, seems like only yesterday that you and Nick were telling us about your PCT prep yeehaawww! Can't wait to see your incredible adventure unfold. Eva Xxx
Yeah can’t believe it’s finally happening!
Hello my outdoors friend, thank you for sharing your fine video. You are well organized. It looks like you are all set for the Pct. Be safe out there. Enjoy the journey.
🤗
Cheers!
That pack is beautiful!
I love my anker - i have the same one and its worth the weight!!! Great video! Itll be interesting to see what you will keep or exchange
dude she reminds me of lana from smallville. Good info, got it here from Dixe at homemmade wanderlust. Good lucks on your trails!
mine was a random algorythm hit . . . and I have been following Dixie since 2015. I buy her stuff now, lolz. I guess she still loses trekking poles and umbrellas.
So excited to follow your journey! But of course the most important thing is for you to enjoy every moment! I would say, just make videos when you feel like it and not because you feel like you have to every week :)
Love you two together❤️
Good video looks like your good . I love my granite gear 16L bag , I liked mine so much I bought an extra one to use as a clothes bag. Good Luck !👍 you can wash that tyvek sheet it will make it softer and quieter but don’t put it it the dryer 😁
I hiked most of the John Muir trail and did some serious Grand Tenton National Park hikes. What I’ve learned is bring a real pillow non of those blow up ones, you’ll thank me when you do hard 25 miler days, worth its weight in gold in sleep and comfort. 😂🍻
Best of luck to you both!
Love it! Good choices!
Very keen to get your review on the Tarptent Stratospire 2 :)
An umbrella is really good for the desert sections, especially the Southern Terminus. I am familiar with that geography and if you are not used to it, an umbrella is the way to go. What ever makes you sleep comfortably is great! Nothing is so miserable as lying awake or waking up with odd pains especially in you neck or shoulders.
WOW, now that’s a “Cool Bag - Lady”. 👊😎....
Haha yess!!
My recommendation: Your sleep layer (jersey, bottoms, socks) should be completely independent of your base layer. Your base layer will get grubby and damp during the day. If you put on a completely dry and much cleaner layer before you crawl under your quilt, you will be much warmer and more comfortable than if you were wearing dirty, damp socks and tops. Changing clothes also helps to keep your quilt clean. Remember, you won't be cleaning that quilt for months or even years; so taking steps to keep it clean are worth the effort.
Of course if the base layer gets too dirty, you can use your sleep kit instead, and, if it gets really cold, you can double your sleep layer with the base layer.
I was wondering what your pack weights? I see some of the other already on the trail have packs around 30 lbs. They are already at mile 300 and I think it will be hot by the time you start.
Actually so happy you mentioned the spoon lol I also hate metal on metal scrapping sounds 😖 lol!
Woah! must get really windy at times up there on that hill.
How exciting! Have a blast and stay safe. Take a million photos for fun memories. Would rubber strips (like for a bathtub) help you anchor better on the Tyvex sheet? When you come back, I'd love to see you do a wilderness first aid responder summary video. Iyi yolculuklar! Happy travels!
That could be a good idea!
Whoo! Getting ready!! 👉👍👈
I’m watching your PCT videos now, also trying to figure out where your long sleeve white hiking shirt with the lawn chair print came from. It’s adorable
It’s this one! geni.us/UdlD 😊
Thank you soooo much!! 💛 I also tried to shop your line but everything is out of stock!
Great video! How did the tent work out for you?
that umbrella is cool
Hey! Came here from your Vietnam vlogs and love your energy! Silly question, what type of sunglasses do you have? Are they durable and good for travel b/c I love the way they look. Best of luck to you and Nick on the PCT, truly one of the best ways to see the West coast!
I'd suggest testing everything out at least once to make sure it works etc. Nice load out though. I have the same cook kit, pot and stove.
Good luck Mari & Nick have a great time ! Do you already have a trail name ?
Not yet! Looking forward to seeing what it is!
OMG, I share the metal-on-metal hatred! Absolute worst feeling and sound. Good choice on cooking utensil!
Ahh the worst!! 😊
Did you ever end up doing a pack shake down on trail? Will you be doing a gear review post trail? I'm going to attempt a thru hike on the PCT in April. Any advice and recommendations are super appreciated. Thanks girl🌻
I’m going to do an updated video sometime in the next few months, so hopefully that will help!
Ain't Chris @ ULA great? So great attention when I bought my ULA CDT. Great company and service. Great ass video.
PS when-ish do y'all get to Campo?
Yeah such amazing customer service! Already out here. Day 3!
can u share link to ur top and sunglasses :0 sooo cute xox
Morsel spoon!
I recommend a small microfiber cloth instead of a cotton bandana.
Bears, are they much of an issue and how do you avoid them?
Hi Mari, thanks for the video update. Great seeing you both made it there okay. You mentioned that you were on top of a mountain there. Please don't tire yourselves out climbing mountains, you will need all your energy to walk the PCT. Does your tent fold up small enough to fit in your pack? Love your first aid kit. I remember seeing a first aid kit at my former workplace. It was in a large steel container and when opened contained one band aid. They were actually ordering in more stuff to my relief, as I was wondering how one band aid would help if there was a natural disaster or something. Maybe, if we all survived it and someone had cut their finger, we would have the band aid!!! LOL. That is an amazing bag you have there containing all those things. The only other time that I have seen so many things kept in a bag was in the Mary Poppins movie!! Seriously though, I hope you and Nick have a great time on the PCT. It really looks like an adventure in a lifetime. Anyway, take care. Robert.
Yep, the tent fits on nick’s pack! Haha. 😊
Gonna be living vicariously through you! I don’t think we care if the videos are perfect - even if you just stitch together random video clips - we just wanna watch! Good luck!
P.s. not gonna lie, I was relieved when I saw you were bringing that GPS thing. I do wonder how many people do PCT without such a device?
Thanks Soupy!! Yeah it’s a lot more reassuring to have the garmin! 💖
On the airmat, blowing into them also blows in moisture and eventually you'll have black mold in your pad. That's why I use a inflation bag too. It's a win win situation :)
If the air has humidity it's going in the pad still...
@@whoodiestyleI can see your point but there's a lot less humidity in the air than in your lungs. Also, but your mouth isn't where the mold is. I have severe asthma/COPD and have to be very careful with anything that can effect my lungs.
What I found on the internet:
Use a sack or pump to inflate as often as possible as others have noted. When I can, or when I get around to it, I get the moisture out by: -fill with cold air (this could be outside air in Winter or air from the freezer in any season). -let the air mattress get warm. That could be in the sun or I put it in the utility room which is always about 90F. -while still warm, deflate the air mattress. Repeat as necessary. One cycle reverses about one inflation by mouth. If you want to get all scientific or anal about it, you could fill a baggie containing a hygrometer with the exhausted air. When the exhausted air is lower and constant in its humidity, you've gotten all you can. Also, in the field, if you have the choice, let the air mattress get warm in the sun before deflating. Then the exhausted air will take more moisture out with it.
interesting to see how long the iPad survives...
I've seen a lot of complaints lately about quilts not being warm enough, but the people aren't using the straps that hold the quilt to your pad. Be sure to attach those straps on any night it might get cold. If you do get cold, you can easily tighten them down in the middle of the night to eliminate any drafts. I hope you are enjoying the trail. Keep your feet clean and happy, and they'll take you wherever you want to go. The tyvek needs to be washed and dried multiple times to wrinkle it up and soften it.
The vast majority of quilts do not come w/ straps nor any loops etc. to tie them down. Discovered quilt world a few years ago through Ray Jardine. No complaints over 5 years.
@@jhonyermo My Enlighened Equipment quilt does, and I thought that I saw them mentiioned on the other quilts that I looked at while shopping for one. Seems like a good idea, and one that I have used when the temps drop below freezing.
My quilt came with 1 strap and I bought a 2nd one. So far so good!
....Good one Mari.......should be able to fit your raincoat around your backpack.....& hot tip for ya......wear your jumper/sweater on the inside/closest to your body....shirt on the outside...it will keep you warmer at night.....Good-Luck...& Enjoy.
Video finest quality..
Did you use contacts on the trail?
Cool! I'll be following along! How long are you expecting it to take?
5 and a half months or less 😊
@@mari.johnson whoa!!! Crazy! Can't wait to see. Good for you guys! Thats huge!
Mari, could you tell me if a person never hicked and they did 10 miles or more a day. Up to 340 miles total in 32 days and eat special trail food. How much weight approx. Would they lose? Would your face be thin and tone? Wouldn't your back, arms carrying all your stuff be showing toned muscle? Wouldn't your legs be would in muscle? There's a friend said she did it but she does not look like she went thru what I just told you.
Could you tell me some tell, tell signs if for sure someone did a journey like this?
Plus I think you have to be somewhat fit to attempt a goal like that. Plus you look like your fit enough to do it. But ok I dont know nothing so that is why I'm asking... Thank you!!
Metal on metal scares bears & lions!
16 pounds?! That’s all. I’ve been thinking of taking this hike after I get out of the army in 2 years and I’m use to 40 Ibs of BS on my back. This is such good news!!
Plus food and water. I weighed it with those and it was 33 lbs, but I want it to weigh less!
Maybe you went over this, so please forgive me if you did but what was that straw you used from your PCT vlog?
Here it is! How To // Brightside Thru-Hiker Straw ruclips.net/video/_FNTy-0j1GQ/видео.html
@@mari.johnson Thanks so much!
That was really helpful! I wish you safe trekking!!! ❤️
Thanks Lielle!! ❤️
I’m surprised you don’t have more Carhart brand clothing.
You can always bounce items ahead in the mail so you do not have to carry all the items you may need later
True! I think I’ll do that at some point 😊
I understand the spoon, not only the sound gets to me, but I can't eat with any metal cutlery, especially if it is in a metal dish.
I always wonder, how are people able to do this? How do u afford to travel all the time?
One day will hike in NZ. Hope you can be my guide
Which backpack?
Neat
Why the Leukotape around the lighter?
Because it’s easier than carrying a whole role!
you will need a gear shake down, looking forward to your journey
Note to self...
When i hike the AT, call a bunch of camping gear companies, tell them ill make a yt video, and ask for freebies.
How long will the PCT take? Good luck to the both of you.
Around 5 months or so!
You are hilarious...
A fuzzy hat and gloves would be useful.
I always wonder who the heck dislikes these types of videos...
man so much fancy gear, you musta spent a fortune on it all
😲, Enjoy
Ignorant me: Why does she need a trowel? 😂 💩
Really re-think the computer through. Its heavy. We don't need complex video's. A simply video from the trail and camp is all that's needed. // Thee most important goal to begin your journey is, light weight. With food for two days and four liters of water, you want to be under 30 lbs. // Do ten milers, about, for the first few weeks to avoid injuries and hike as much as you can between now and your leave date. Hope you have a wonderful time. We'll be following.
Well she will be under 30 lbs and a tablet will not make much a difference. Some people carry a journal , maps, guide book , a book, a kindle, big camera, tripod, drone, etc. If you choose to go all digital, you probably save weight it could be even used as a battery backup (if it not used very frequently) . Gives you the opportunity to go for a smaller sized Anker battery
Ditch the weird sunglasses, looks like a 1960 Cadillac windowshild
Hey stocky calf
She took so much stuff. My god please let nature guide you not modern day plastic products.
