Hi from the trail! Thanks for watching and following along. Just want to let you know that if I don’t reply to your comment, it’s because I’m hiking and I have no service. So don’t worry, I’m not ignoring you 😊❤️
Hi Mari, here is a song for you both, which I hope you enjoy. Every time I play this, I think of you both walking the PCT. Some of the words seem to fit well with your current adventure. Take care. Robert. ruclips.net/video/h6OvqLDT_Ms/видео.html
Can't wait for more videos!! As someone who hopes to hike the PCT this next year when I finish college you're inspiring me and I'm definitely living vicariously through you. happy travels!
Great to see you finally get there. Please look after yourselves ease your self into the longer miles. Love the track on the map. Congratulations doing a great job with the vlogging.
Love it... Thanks for sharing. I love the "gourmet" meal! Reminds me of my days in the infantry! Carrying a backpack and equipment for a long distance we referred to it as humping. Humping your equipment in the wilderness you build up an appetite! Having lived in San Francisco for 20 years there was a lot of fine restaurants. I've enjoyed many of these establishments but! The best meal I've ever had was in the service out in the field after "humping" my gear. Something about the appetite build-up, the relaxing feeling of dropping your ruck (backpack) and getting off your feet just makes the simplest of meals gourmet! Good luck to you and Nick! Keep the videos coming!
Hello my friend hope you are well and having a great start to the week. Just found you today and really pleased we have your videos are awesome hun. Great footage and funky music too. Very nice indeed. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us really appreciate it keep up the good work. Take care and stay safe my friends catch up soon God bless you both 🙏❤️👍
may you have an awesome journey. don't forget to take in mount whitney and see the sunrise from there. looking forward to nice videos. thanks for sharing.
Hello Mari, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing your fine video. You folks be safe out there. The very best to both. Enjoy the journey. 🤗
Excited to watch your journey, Mari! I am envious as you and your bf begin the hike and see the wonder and the thrill unfold on the path in front of you. I like the maps that show your progress... nice touch. Thanks for sharing 😀
Ahaha! So jealous right now!! Next year! Was great to see Nick using an Aarn backpack - I absolutely love mine, but have been too-ing and fro-ing about taking it next year...just heavier and more moving parts which could break...but I call it my magic pack for a reason! I can just glide along with it!! So I will be very interested to see how he goes with his. All the best, and make the most of every day!
Keep on trucking Mama. A bit of advice from Vilhjalmr Stefanssson's "The Arctic Manual" (1940) on how to make consistent progress on your trek. He recommended that if weather conditions are favorable (i.e., not a blizzard), one should push on until 3:00 in the afternoon and then make camp the first decent camp spot after that. This policy prevents one from pushing on and on looking for the perfect camp spot until too late in the day. Of course, he was traveling in the high arctic where it gets dark quite early and his criterion for a camp site was snow suitable for building an igloo. I suggest you adapt his advice by picking a time about 90 minutes before sunset and your criteria would include flat, rock-free ground that will hold your tent stakes.
I found your videos searching for SE Asia related content and as a former thru-hiker myself I'm really glad you've taken this on. Rooting for you both! Cheers!
Hi! I met you at Paradise cafe. Your videos are beautiful and it was such a pleasure to experience your warm energy in person. Best of luck to you guys. Hope to see you on the trail someday! Thanks for all of the inspiring content.
Hi Kelli! Thanks so much for saying hi and for leaving this comment! I was bummed I didn’t get a chance to say bye to you before you left. Yes, hope to see you out there sometime!!! All the best to you ❤️❤️❤️
Your trail graphic is very nice. When that little branch brushed up against your head when you were talking on trail, you looked back at it. I was thinking, yikes, Poison Oak maybe. Good views out there this year, best wishes to you both.
Hi Mari! I'm from the Bay Area as well and started watching/following your videos when I was preparing to go to New Zealand last year. Love your content and I'm so excited for your PCT adventure! Looking forward to seeing more of your journey!
I really liked this vlog. You managed to capture the anticipation of starting out and beginning to settle in. What a good idea to have a map showing your progress. I also enjoy Nick's Kiwi accent, particularly the way that he says desert :)
Hi Mari and Nick, great video. You are doing very well. However, I must point out, there may have been a bit of cheating earlier by using that bus to the start of the PCT and also using the plane prior to that from New Zealand. Hmm!!! Should be walking all the way, I say!!! LOL. Wow!! That is an amazing trail. There is certainly some beautiful scenery there. Incidentally, once you and Nick finish the PCT, maybe you could come over here to Australia and walk across the Nullarbor Plain...just kidding!!! Anyway, wishing you both the very best. Take care and keep safe. Robert.
Great video Mari lookin forward to following you two....how exciting....just a thought....be aware ....rattlesnakes like shade to so be smart when sitting on boulders or close to bushes in the shade....a girl almost sat on a rattler a few days ago she thinks the snake bit her pack....dont panic just stay safe !! Good job with video !!
Hello Mari! I've been watching your channel for a couple of years now. You've always inspired me to travel and live abroad (and this year I finally moved abroad)! It just so happens that my Day 1 in Japan was also Easter and my mom also packed me chocolate easter eggs. :) I think it's awesome you started your PCT journey on Easter too! I've loved watching your PCT videos and will enjoy following the series. Cheers, Taco Salad.
Thank you,@@mari.johnson! It's been a huge transition but Japan is wonderful so far. I love exploring the country and learning about its history and culture. I've also met a lot of great expats here - two of my closest friends here are Kiwis! I definitely plan to visit them when they move back home. I'm excited for your next videos. Keep em'coming!
So glad I stumbled into your channel! Subscribed & binge watching! Thanks for sharing your journey...hope I can convince my husband to consider doing this with me at some point. Happy trails 🙏🏻❣️
Hi Mari, saw one of your Iceland travel videos a while back. Did not know you walked the PCT. Hope to see you make it all the way. Since i am starting out today. I won't skip ahead. :) 30 miles in two days. ouch. especially if you had not trained for the hike.
Looking forward to watching your videos Mari! Congrats on the first few days. My brother is on the PCT right now about 600 miles in and he is loving it. I’m sure you guys will have a great experience as well. 💕 Renee
Have an awesome hike, both of you guys! Just one thing I like to ask from you, when you have time, look into a few videos from "Second Chance Hiker". This guy, Cory, is really an inspirational guy who struggle and overcome again and again on the trail. If you like his videos, give him some encouragement once you catch up with him. You are awesome too, good luck with the adventure!
Ah man, this was awesome, very nicely edited video and I love the music choice. Can't wait to ''walk'' this journey with you two. :D I also would love to do this thru-hike in the following years.
Its so amazing what you guys are doing! I hope to do something like that one day. Good luck and safe travels! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey.
I finally got around to checking this out. Very cool. I'm going to watch the whole series. It's been on my adventure list for a long time, but haven't done it yet. By the way this was uploaded on my birthday.
If you like long walks, the El Camino from Southern France to Galicia in North Spain is a good one, 883 miles to the end, that's like hiking from Whangarei to Wellington.
Hi from the trail! Thanks for watching and following along. Just want to let you know that if I don’t reply to your comment, it’s because I’m hiking and I have no service. So don’t worry, I’m not ignoring you 😊❤️
What camera are you using btw?
Hiking! It's really looks a lot like "WALKING". ha ha
It’s a canon g7x Mark 2 😊
Don't worry about us just focus on hiking safe (but post whenever you can)!

That last frame at the end where, you fill in on the map how much you've hiked is gold! Can't wait to watch the line grow!
I’m so glad you noticed that! I didn’t know if anyone would catch it - it’s so small now! 🤗
Welcome to the PCT. You do a terrific job on your video and I look forward to following you. Be safe.
Amazing thing is how everyone's experience is a bit different. Same trail, different experiences and feelings and picture shots. Thank you.
I'm lookin' forward to more videos. Thank you for sharin'. Godspeed to you both. Yeyyyy!

Wonder if you’ll catch up to second chance hiker, will be interesting to see what gear you get rid of, 👍
She could walk backwards with a blindfold on in the pitch dark and catch him...😂
