ABOUT ME
Californian exploring the world. Here to share adventures and give you tips about travel, culture, language, and life.
So funny how you were disgusted by just a couple of days of trail dirt back then :o)
I appreciate the work you and other put into making these videos. If not for people like you I would not have been motivated to try it myself after having cancer 9 years ago and then having to overcome nerve damage in one of my feet. Again it was because of RUclips that I found a solution for my nerve damage and the next week bought a light weight backpack and hit the trail . . . :o)
Haha I know, funny about the dirt! I’m so glad that you found hiking and that the internet allows people like us to come together!
Please do a video at the end talking about the total costs of your PCT trip! (Hotel stays, restaurant expenses, transportation, food resupply expenses, etc...)
Happy trails!
Ooh that would mean I would have to be keeping track...I’ll try!
I’ve been looking into Thru hiking for my bf and I hopefully when I’m done with nursing school!! I heard it’s average of $5-8000/person for a thru hike... I would LOVE it if you could do a video with your bf about how you guys did it together and if you shared gear or each had your own stuff like pot/stove/water filtration stuff like that.. I know you mentioned he carried the tent but would love to see some info on the rest of how you guys did it together.. searching couples thru hiking on RUclips and there isn’t actually that much about couples doing it together ❤️
So cool to see my old home town Julian.
I used to deliver the mail there and drove 110 miles down thru Scissors Crossing and beyond.
I would pick up PCT folks and drive um up to Julian for some pie at Moms
Love your vids and will be following.
What a cool place to have lived. Thank you for giving rides!! It’s so appreciated!
Oh my god!!! Free pie??!!!! Amazing! Love being able to see your trip. ❤️
Yes!! Such a treat!!!! Worth it already 😂
I'm glad Mari showed some town stuff, I come for the trail footage, but town visits are part of the experience.
Great tunes. And yes Nick, it is the world’s largest asparagus.
Love the asparagus!
I'm loving these PCT videos. Such a pleasant vibe.
Really glad to hear it!
Split level accommodations - on the trail..., now that’s some awesomeness! 👊😎...
Seriously 😎
Watched your first 3 videos....really well done....gonna follow you all the way....the PCT is amazingly beautiful...thank you.
Clicked so fast!!! This is my favourite RUclips series right now (and maybe ever) 👏🏼
Aw that is such high praise! Really glad you’re liking the videos 😊❤️
Yes Mari's channel is superb Emily
Solid stuff Mari, glad to see you’re feeling better 🤗. Nick looks like a natural, easily beasting up that trail so far!!
You umbrella has to be best bit of equipment for the desert part. Omg so smart
Really enjoying your posts. Glad you are feeling better!
I had the strawberry/rhubarb with vanilla ice cream and coffee back in January as Mom's first PCT hiker of the season 😀 You made an outstanding choice 👍
Stay healthy & happy ✌ 👣
This makes me so excited for the rest of your journey!! Glad your cold is clearing up! Your positive outlook is so inspiring. I’m learning a lot just watching! Sending love!
Aw cheers Sarah!
Glad you’re feeling better! Way to push through what I’m sure was a hard few days. Happy trails! 😊
I am loving these cactus blossoms!!! Great video Mari!
Hello Mari, it's good to see you and Nick out and about. An early am start is good because you can put many miles on the trail before it gets too hot. Remember, dirt is mother nature's makeup and there is no charge. You folks be safe out there. The best to both of you for a healthy and safe journey. 🤗
Free Pie! Great to see your adventure is going well, keep up the good work
Enjoying your chill style. 👍😁
Hi guys from Chch. Enjoying watching your progress & look forward to each new one. Loved the split level accommodation, very fancy lol.
Nick's gotta be the ultimate laid back, man of few words kiwi bloke, love it. 🙂 Take care & happy trails.
Kia Ora!
I'm watching this in 2020 and loving your series so far! It is very well documented and I am very inspired to do this trail hopefully soon!
You guys are doing great!!! That tub!!!
So enjoying these vlogs. Love the hands free umbrella - great way to keep the sun off you. Oh, my - your bath water !! Wow. How nice to have a little luxury along your hike. And free pie! You definitely deserve both. How amazing are people along the way giving rides!!
Enjoying the videos of this walk
Yeeeiii new video!
I'm really enjoying your PCT videos. It makes me really happy when you upload!
I feel like I'm hiking with you guys!
Yay makes me happy you’re along with us!
Another great video. Thank you for allowing us to follow you on this wonderful journey. Glad you enjoyed the pie!
Thanks for coming along with us ❤️
Enjoyed your video, the music selection was awesome
This is such an epic adventure, sadly watching this I have realized that with my allergy to sunlight, I won't be able to do this one, still enjoying your videos. Second degree burns within 20 minutes (with a 60spf) and sun poisoning don't work well for hiking, but maybe there is another more shaded and wood trail out there for me
I’m enjoying your videos very much. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
Great videos & love watching your journey ! I plan to do the PCT next year! Good luck girl !
Beer, Bed and Pie mmmmmmmmmmm. Keep up the good walk!
Good miles! You're doing great.
Great job. You guys are tough. U are inspiring
Like the split level accomodations. Last September I was camped by myself at Marie Lake in the Sierra and joked, to myself :-( , about the 3 bedroom, zero bath with beautiful lake views. :-) You're sounding much better in this video. Get better and enjoy the adventure.
Love your videos.. Happy trails
Cheers!
Fantastic vlogs Mari oh free pie count me in lol
I was into this and didn't want it to end! You're making me want to throw the PCT onto our long hike list! Can't wait for more.
Ooh you should do it!! I’ve been following a family on Instagram that’s been doing it with 4 kids!
@@mari.johnson That's awesome! We are still wanting to do the Camino or something similar. Doing the PCT may be the only way we could actually maybe afford to be back in the states. 🤔🤪 But seriously.
Looks like you guys are having fun. Keep trekking.
We are indeed! Thanks!
you guys are awesome!
Oh, that sun rise? at 0:31. Killer! Amazing light out in the desert.
Such stunning light!
Great to see you sporting your umbrella ☂, staying well hydrated and getting an early start. Good desert hiking 🥾.
The umbrella is one of my favorite pieces of gear so far!!
I really enjoy your videos
Keep it up
😎👍
Dude you founded!!
The world's biggest asparagus .
⛰⛰🏔🏔🏕🏕⛰
Awesome🤘
You are BRAVE drinking that water!!!
The water filter does wonders!!
Hi Mari, another great video. The scenery there looks absolutely spectacular. You are certainly high up over there. I am currently wondering what the AM radio reception would be like there at night. Being so far from everywhere, it would more likely be a great area for receiving distant radio stations. In some way, the scenery there reminds me a bit of the area around Mount Delegate Vic Australia. Anyway, take care. Robert.
Looks very good Mari. that sunrise ! woow. Did you change anything about your gear when you were in Julian ? Or have you come across something that you thought should be changed ? have a good time enjoy en be save !
No gear changes yet! 😊
Thank you 😊 always the highlight of my evening - a new PCT video from Mari! Glad you’re feeling better.
Ah yay thanks!! 😊
I am so in for starting trail days with pie! It should be more of a thing. (Though I'd also be in for that apple cider!)
All the good stuff!
The giant asparagus looking cactus is not a cactus, it is a type of Agave which can live up to forty years, and only puts out the central stalk when it is near death, the stalk will have blooms along the stalk near the top before it dies. Julian is a good first stop for hikers although many stop at Lake Morena and Mt Laguna first. On your way into Warner Springs you will have a real treat with all the different cacti and other flowering plants. SAFE HIKING
great music
haha that bathwater looked grim! sorry if this has already been asked but which Aarn backpack is Nick using and how is he finding it?
Good trekking for U, stay safe
Haaaave FUN⛰️🐾🌲🍀🍀🍀
Did you love it? I did the at anf will do the pct in 2021.
Another really nice vlog. Great scenery. Thanks for bringing us along.
Dirt is a never ending cycle! When I lived in the car, before I had a gym membership, I tried the baby wipe technique and I wasn't impressed. I found it better just to use big cheap bottles of hand sanitizer and paper towels. Helped with smelling better, but dries you out a bit. I used the ocean when nearby, or the showers at the beach. Most of the time, I took "bird baths" in sinks at Walmarts, etc. and used a wash cloth. But I guess without a sink, you can hope to find a creek or pond. You don't really need soap as long as you just rub down in the water. But really it doesn't matter. Being dirty can be very freeing once you no longer care. I'd only be concerned in towns when you're around other people! OMG I miss Cheez-its! They don't have them here in Malaysia. Cheers!
Good tips! Hope you’re enjoying Malaysia!
@@mari.johnson It's ok. My favorite part is the 90-entry with no visa. The rest, I'm not too thrilled about. I miss Thailand. Here the food isn't as good or as cheap, the budget hotels are really crappy compared to Thailand, and idk, the people aren't as friendly. But oh well, I am learning, and I try to make the best of everywhere I visit. Never made any claims this trip would be all champagne and caviar on beaches, haha! Glad I get to watch you! Sorry I haven't made any videos. I really haven't felt like it haha!
Was wondering what camera/phone are you using on the trip and how you manage the editing / uploading process? How is the cell reception? Thanks - keep on moving 👣
Top Fan ☑️
Got to love those trail Angel's for hitches. When you get to nor cal at Donner summit rest area, I give hitches to Truckee. Hit me up!
Ah sweet, good heads up! Cheers!
1:25 🍜🍜 what is your favorite flavored ramen noodle brand ? ...I like the Japenese brand Sapporo Ichiban brand.
8:13 Keep it up, with showing us your gear/ food and how your Gear managing with each townie break.
9:17 🍰 I take it , that Free Pie from MOM's 😍👍💓 , lived up to its reputation..LOL
That’s my favorite brand too! ❤️
what tent are you using?
Enjoying your videos. I'm hiking PCT May, 2022. Is there a website or FB page with a schedule for Trail Angels? If so, Did you find the info useful & accurate?
That's exciting that you're hiking soon! There is a FB page I think, but I didn't really use it. I heard about them mostly through word of mouth or Guthook (FarOut).
It's obvious now, Nick's trail name should be asparagus.
Enjoying following along on yours and Nicks adventure. Bet that hotel stay was amazing after being on the dusty trail for days! As for trail walking ... is it easy finding your way along the PCT?
It’s really easy! There are a lot of signs. And if it’s hard to find then we use gps 😊
Good to hear. Some of those tracks just look like animal trails. 😅
My favorite part of long trails are town days! Everything is so novel...
How was your pooping, digestion, and regularity on the trail?
Hey Mari, I feel silly because I only just noticed that your using a talenti jar as your food cup. I work for the company that makes talenti! I adore that you are reusing that jar!
That’s so cool! Actually, so many people out here use talenti jars. They’re the perfect size and when you need a new one, you also get ice cream! 😊
@@mari.johnson That's so awesome you're rewarded with ice cream when you need a new food cup. Marketing genius!!
Where are your glasses from? They’re beautiful!
Sorry if you’ve answered this before, but where did you get that amazing bug shirt?! 😍
They're little chairs! Here it is :) geni.us/UdlD
Also, I’m super interested in how your gear is holding up. By now you’re at 250+ miles...how’s the wear on the trail runners? Any gear failures yet?
Not yet! I’ll do a gear update a little later 😊
Luv ur PCT vlogs, btw what is trail magic?
It’s when super generous people give or leave out snacks, drinks, etc to thru hikers. This time they brought chairs and everything!
🍀💚
Someone needs to open a laundromat in Julian.
Right?!!!
So just how hot had it been on this stretch?
You should really do like a google map file showing how far you walk each day :D
That would be cool! But I have no time for that now. Maybe afterward 😊
Looks like you made it the two weeks without breaking up? He is a lucky man, I cannot find a women to car camp much less going on a 6 month hike. Any suggestions?
❤🇮🇩
Sou sou yannnnnnnnnnnnn
You'll toughen up and start to enjoy the wild more than you do towns
youztuber5000 no you won't. :)
That tub @ 6:48
😱
hurry The snow will be melting come join Daisy in the Sierra ruclips.net/video/7NoYCZhpt8w/видео.html

No room for a portable shower
mule boy
You're way too good for that guy, I'm 100% sure he took up hiking to impress you.
I feel like I wanna see him fall down a big Rocky hill (with cactus) out of Jealousy.
