I started fly fishing, for bluegill and bass, when I was a teenager. Small poppers were the ticket. Waded out to the edge of the cattails and cast along the edges. Had a great time.
Love the bass video! I hope the nephew appreciates the free casting lessons. 😄 I'm still learning to fly fish and hit the lake near me this morning hunting some bass with no success.
I got into it last year after exclusively fly fishing for trout. It was a total blast and convinced me that is how I plan to get my boy hooked on fly fishing too!
I’ve been pounding bass with that same black slider..You showed us how to tie. Going into Doctors office so have to finish video later. It’s Huge of you to take, and teach the youth how to flyfish. 👍👍👌🎣
So does having a more expensive rod help with getting a good loop for longer casts? I have a Redington starter set 8 wt but I need to cast farther for bass and redfish
I feel this needs to be addressed before we can move on. What happens if you name a fish that was previously caught and named? “My name’s not Amy. It’s Sally!”
So, you are not of the school of thought that you have to always let the popper sit for 30 seconds or so before retrieving? (I never understood the rationale for that)
"Wind from the West, fish bite the best. Wind from the East, fish bite the least. Wind from the North, do not go forth. Wind from the South blows bait in their mouth"
I have a love hate relationship with trout fishing since I'm from Texas. I suck at it lol. But bass fishing on the fly is my shit. If you ever want to get hooked on some East Texas toads then come on down man!
Hadn’t seen a lot of bass since my Kentucky days, not a lot of them in BC, although some pinheads decided to play biologists and introduce them. Just praying it isn’t grass carp next. I am guessing you may be in Louisiana mentioning “bag of milk”.
This makes me so happy, sharing the joy of fishing with the next generation of anglers. Loved this one.
Bass on a 7 wt fly rod is how I got my start in fly fishing decades ago. Loved it! Haven’t done it in years, but good times my friend, good times.
I love seeing your nephew catching bream on the fly! One of the highlights of the video! Looked like a good trip to my home state!
LMB & SMB are a great day on the water - awesome to see the kids getting involved!!!!

Me too!!!
Just recovered from surgery and bass fishing on the fly has been keepin my mind off things. Great video!
Just when I thought you couldn't get any more cooler....you go and do this! 🎉 Great video!

If you've never gone after pan fish with a fly rod you are missing out. It's an absolute hoot, especially with a lighter rod.

Tiny bwo’s and bluegill is what got me hooked on fly fishing 👍👍
i love catching crappie on top water flies! used to fish small dalburg divers over weedbeds to catch em. keep up the good work Ben!
Dude sir, I have the same thing happening on my fly line! 129 dollar line, sink tip, and its cracking everywhere!
Was it a Rio? I had one totally suck for me.
@@owenconner9063 Rio lines just suck in general
So, what line was it so I don’t waste my money?
"You don't fish here much" LMAO! Great video, love some bass fishing

Fun as all get out. Used to live on a lake. Miss the bass and carp a lot. Will definitely get out on a lake to fish this summer
i’m one of roy’s friends, and if you didn’t know his nickname is ron flobes
Reminds me of the great times I had fishing with my buddies when I lived in Alabama. Wish I fly fished then!
Good stuff Ben warming up here in Pa hoping to get some top water eats very soon
Bluegill and bass are just plain fun to catch
Awesome video man question what type of fly line do you use? Also, what camera do you use?
This was a great one!
Ben, what type of fly line do you like for bass fishing? I know they make bass tapers.

Does having a high quality rod vs entry level have a big effect on heavier weight rods for casting and getting a good loop?
24:30 Orvis owes you an endoursemant rod/check :P
You had me subscribe after you crushed the Miller Light lol its the Stone Cold Steve Austin of beers!!!!!!!!
Love that topwater bite!!! What state ya fishin for them?
Love the video
What happened to the lake to wreck it for some time?
Also WHO MADE THAT LINE that fell apart so fast?!
I feel this needs to be addressed before we can move on. What happens if you name a fish that was previously caught and named? “My name’s not Amy. It’s Sally!”
Aww... Man.... That is good frog slidin bass'n Ben.
How’d yall catch these without livescope?
So, you are not of the school of thought that you have to always let the popper sit for 30 seconds or so before retrieving? (I never understood the rationale for that)
30 seconds is a bit much, but letting it sit absolutely works. I’m just too impatient most of the time.
I’m Jud, Ben is my uncle and he isn’t lying about that lake it is awesome
Ye old grass groupers! 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Yup! 😂 jam it in there and pull it out , then pray
Big Bass Ben 🏆

As with striper fishing--strip it all the way in dude 😅
Bluegills are the best no matter the age. They love to fight

You need to kiss the bass
This video made me jealous and a little sad. We are in MI. You have leaves on your trees. It still looks like chenobyl here.
