Hell of a job girl...you handled the problem perfectly. You have just passed sesska as my favorite Dr Who reactor. (She didn't like Clara, that was a strike against her) At your young age it's even more impressive. Love ya
Alternate titles for this episode: 1.THAT episode of series 9 2.Peter Capaldi showing why he was born to be the Doctor 3. The episode with the really sick music 4. The masterpiece of Doctor Who
"2. Peter Capaldi showing why he was born to be The Doctor." - Isn't that every episode of Series 8 through 10? I mean even when the writing isn't great Capaldi still gives an incredible performance.
Deathlygunn No arguments from me. He’s my favorite but I’ve heard others say this was the performance that made them realize how great he was. Of course, some of us already knew that before :)
"We could argue for the rest of our lives about who's the best Doctor, but for me the best single performance in the role is settled. You can only ask a solo of a virtuoso, so thanks God and Scotland for Peter Capaldi." Steven Moffat.
“There’s this emperor, and he asks the shepherd’s boy how many seconds in eternity. And the shepherd’s boy says, ‘There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it, and every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.’ You may think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird.”💙 It’s finally here, Capaldi’s best episode in Doctor Who History!
I love that we got to see the Doctor's Mind Palace and the fact that it's the TARDIS is so fitting, I'm guessing it's a reference to Sherlock and I'm sticking with that
Agree to disagree here! Capaldi is an amazing Doctor, that's for sure, and probably the best New Who Doctor too, but imo Hartnell, Throughton and Colin Baker were absolutely perfects too!
He was easily one of the best casting choices, he was let down though by Moffats writing, there are a few stand out episodes this one is one of the best but Tennant in my opinion is the best and no one will beat him
I took the writing on his blackboard, re-arranged the letters to spell out "How many seconds, in eternity" and I have that as a tattoo. I loved this episode that much. :')
Hands down the best episode of Peter's run and easily a top 10 episode In most eyes, it's seriously amazing! Edit: When you hear that first line about him never ever stopping you get real excited thinking he will get his revenge for sure, but once you realize he will literally never stop even for 4 and a half billion years it breaks your hearts knowing he cares for clara that much. Find someone that will do something even near a single percentage of that and you've got a keeper.
And yet she asked him not to do it, and he disregarded her dying wish. What the Doctor did here for Clara was awesome, but we also mustn't forget that she never wanted that.

So glad to hear that Peter may now be your favourite Doctor, to me, he is the most 'Doctor-y' Doctor out of all the new bunch. By which I mean he echoes or encapsulates the Doctors of the original series. More mysterious, otherworldly, unpredictable, crotchety, sharper wit than his more recent predecessors that he could have easily slotted into the original series lineup anywhere from the 1960s and 1970s. If you like Peter's side of the character then I really think you'll love the classic Doctors, especially the first four. I think many subs would love to see you dip into a couple of fan favourites from each.
Capaldi's crowning achievement. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we get "Heaven Sent". My gosh is it good! Am so excited to watch Shayla'a series finale reaction!

HOW did you figure out it was a loop so fast!? And remembering the hand at the start of the episode! Nuts. You're so smart. I definitely felt for you when Clara showed up too and it really got to me when you said, "I'm so sick of seeing him hurt." This is my favourite episode of Doctor Who. :) Love it. When I first saw it, it was so odd that I wasn't sure how I felt about it because it was so different. The more I thought about it, the more I loved it. It's the kind of episode that I think only Doctor Who could do.
I've been watching Dr Who since Jon Pertwee and have a load of favourite episodes but i was never able to pick just one as my absolute favourite until this episode aired. In my opinion it's a masterpiece and Peter Capaldi is just fantastic. Great reaction as always Shayla.
It's amazing how much I loved this episode, when it was basically just Capaldi the entire time. Really shows how great of an actor he was..I can't wait to see your next reaction, it's gonna be so good!
This was by far one of my favourite episodes of Doctor Who ever, and I have been watching for a very long time. Capaldi's performance was spot on perfect in this.
1:32 line "The Doctor will see you now" was used in first episode of 11th (11th hour) when he called the Atraxi to come back (if i recall it correctly)
This is the masterpiece of Doctor Who! Everything was done so so right. The score, particularly! Only Capaldi could have done an episode like this. He absolutely owned the screen the whole time.
Congratulations on just-about beating the Heaven Sent curse! I'm just repeating what everybody else is saying, but for me this is the very best episode of Doctor Who ever. And your reaction to it is wonderful.
Shayla is SO cleaver for noticing from the beggining it was a loop. And it's just the 2nd time for what I remember that she figure out an complex puzzle before it even been revealed.
Wonderful reaction. It was interesting to see you work out what was happening and your realization of the ongoing loop the Doctor was experiencing but not remembering but have to work it out on each individual loop. Watching this episode multiple time only enhances it.
It did not. It was submitted to support Capaldi for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Moffat for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series and Talalay for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, none of them were selected by Emmy committee.
Hugo nominated too, also should've won (an episode of Jessica Jones won instead which ordinarily i'd be fine with but 'Heaven Sent' is on another level IMO).
Why should it have won? This episode is worth a razzie. Episodes like this is why people hated The Moffat era and why people are happy he no longer writes for the show
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 I think you're confusing season 9 episode 11 for season 9 episode 12. The next episode definitely demonstrates some of his worst weaknesses.
Peter Capaldi is an amazing actor, he plays a phenomenal role so perfectly it makes you fall in love with him! He is by far, my favourite doctor, and I grew up watching Eccleston and Tennant! Great reaction as always, I always look forward to watching your videos Shayla!
This is what you get when EVERYTHING is on point. Writing, Directing, acting, music....EVERYTHING is absolutly perfect on this episode. It is just amazing to watch. And it is even further improved by being watched directly after the harrowing episode before it.
And there's one of the best episodes of all Doctor Who history. Plus one of Murray Gold's best works. Audience, get ready for Shayla's heart to get ripped out in the next episodes!
Capaldi is my favorite, definitely. Just love his Doctor, and the fact that he has such fantastic chemistry with my favorite companion doesn’t hurt either. ;)
I adore this one. I think the crew who wrote it did a fantastic job of displaying the timelessness of grief and how you live with it in isolation all your life, while trying to live at the same time. And that part "The day you lose someone isn't the worst..." to "It's all the days you live without them" has to be the most powerful I've ever cried. It's so true.
This is my favorite episode of modern Doctor Who, hands down. From Peter Capaldi's brilliant acting to Murray Gold's breathtaking score (I think "The Shepherd's Boy" is the best track he has ever composed), this episode IS Doctor Who and made Twelve my second favorite doctor (in a close second to Nine). I am so happy you enjoyed it
Amazing reaction as usual! It's so comforting to see you've grown to love the Twelfth Doctor so much. If he isn't your favorite now, he'll most certainly be after next series! :D
Capaldi was already a top contender for favorite Doctor by his fourth episode, this episode solidified it. Absolutely loved his portrayal of The Doctor and his blend of what I felt was New and Old Who. He's already missed, I really hope he does some Doctor Who audio-dramas
Just when you think your in for an emotional episode of grief or an episode of watching the Doctor come down on his enemy like a ton of bricks, you feel like you were politely handed this gem of an episode where you are truly are made to feel the true amount of despair FOR the Doctor as he comes and goes for millions of years only briefly realizing each time.
One of the best episodes I've ever seen in all of Doctor Who, I would even dare say, one of the best stories I've ever seen on television history due to the complexity involved, the poetic nature of it, the personal conflicts and resolutions it generates about us and the Doctor's storyline, the fact it can be seen as a debate between depression/oppression vs endurance/freedom, the cleverness of playing with all the elements, the fact that it can be seen as a great standalone, the acting involved, the monologues, the fact that it's a great mystery (which Doctor Who should often be)... I could go on all day. This episode is a wonderful and rare piece of television art imo.
As a friend of mine puts it when asked who's her favorite Doctor. "The current one." Speaking of current, Current Shayla needs to write a note for Future Shayla to tell her it's going to be OK when the regeneration happens. It's happened before. It'll happen again. Companions come and then they go. The TARDIS keeps getting redecorated and the past Doctor doesn't like it. I find it funny when get overwhelmed with the feels and yell that you give up on the show and can't take it anymore. And then you post another review. For Current Shayla and Future Shayla, deep breaths. It hurts for a while but you'll recover from it.
I love this episode, and I love your reaction, especially to the Bird payoff. It’s a journey into the Doctor’s mind, and a tour de force from Capaldi. Did I say love already? Love.
YES!!!!! This ep is one of the berst ever in Nu Who!!! OMG! Capaldi does a SUPERB job in this ep with just himself. You see his wide ranging acting skills! I cannot wait for the Next ep! Your reactions are gonna be priceless!!!
As someone who was watching classic "Doctor Who" as far back as in the early-to-mid 80s on my local PBS channel and has seen all of NuWho so far, this episode is to me the greatest story of the NuWho era; and is in at least the top 20 of all time DW stories Classic or NuWho. One thing that makes Peter Capaldi really great as the Doctor, and this goes for David Tennant as well, is they both were mega "Doctor Who" fans growing up. Capaldi's Doctor as a fan growing up was primarily Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor (but he was also influenced by William Hartnell's First Doctor). Tennant's Doctor growing up was Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor, but he was also a huge fan of Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor. So in being huge fans from long ago, they both got what the Doctor was all about, and incorporated some aspects of their favorite Doctors into their own portrayal of the Doctor. With Capaldi's Doctor, you get Hartnell's grumpiness-with-a-twinkle-in-his-eye and Pertwee's take-charge attitude. With Tennant's Doctor, you get Davison's nice-guy, sensitive charisma mixed with Baker's combination of acting the fool to disarm opponents, but also his tendency to get darkly arrogant at times.
This particular episode is an absolute masterpiece. Everything about it is amazing - Peter’s performance, the script, the direction, cinematography, music - all brilliant. Most of us, though, had a week to process Clara’s death. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to go straight from the emotional turmoil of Face the Raven to this, and have a clear enough head to follow and appreciate its intricacies. Well done!
I’m so happy I found your Channel❤️ the best reactor. You can be so engaging while not talking through the whole episode like pretty much every other reactor seems to do🙄 You’re so honest and it’s amazing to see somebody who is experiencing the show for their first time, and to watch it and actually be engaged enough to show a raw emotion.
Two Shayla's in one video, what a great surprise, thank goodness for camera fails. So glad that even despite the tears, you could still appreciate how good this episode was. Capaldi's run as the doctor really shows where Doctor Who has come, series 1 with burping bins, series 9 complex layered character pieces with time loops. Glad you really liked this episode :)
This episode. This. This is a work of art. It's one of the best episodes, in my opinion, of television I've ever seen, and Capaldi's performance, just Capaldi, was fantastically amazing. And the music at the end is one of my favorite pieces of all time. It's all phenomenal.
This is my favorite episode of Doctor Who ever. There is so much subtext in this episode. Part of it is a love story, a revenge plot, but to me, it's a great metaphor about grief. "It’s funny. The day you lose someone isn’t the worst - at least you’ve got something to do. It’s all the days they stay dead." That line has always stuck with me. I lost someone very close to me a long time ago and the days after their passing where taken up with making plans, calling family members, closing up their affairs, etc. By the time I had free time to think about how I felt about it all, too much time had passed. It would have been improper to bring my feelings to family members who were processing too. The cold that settles in when you realize that in all days that are ahead they'll still be gone.
i love chris because he did so much in one year.and his bond with rose, and you really felt it when he died.every one else had 3 years to make you fall in love with them. plus he brought back the franchise and got a whole new generation to watch. all of this is a hell of a lot to do in 1 year.
Watching 9x11, 9x12 and 9x13 all in one evening? Heroic. I mean, i think i've done that about three times over the last few years but i'm so glad that first time round i had a week between each one. Just to breathe, basically, and process everything properly. Great vid: i'm glad that the camera chose that point to die, rather than earlier.
One of the greatest episodes of the show IMO. Also, wow, you started to catch on when we saw the skulls! Props for figuring out before a lot of us had Edit: you at least started to get the idea then
That was absolutely amazing, I have been waiting for this episode for so long and I was not at all let down. I honestly consider this to be a television masterpiece. The fact that the whole episode was essentially a monologue absolutely blows me away - you are absolutely right about 12 stealing the room whenever he talks. I love the other Doctors too, but nobody can command the audience like 12 does. And his progression, you hit the nail on the head, 12 has had the best character progression I have seen in a long time - I think it's quite similar to the calibre that Walter White has if you've seen Breaking Bad - not in style, but in substance. We first see this grumpy arrogant man who is clearly so uncomfortable in his own skin, but look at him now. Clara has been absolutely essential for 12, as a friend and a companion - he needed her, like really needed - I don't think I realised that until this episode. Remember when he wanted do know if he was a good man? he not only forgot who he was, but why he was doing anything, or how to feel. Clara and his relationship is incredibly intense, you would have definitely seen that in the next episode. There relationship is to intense that he literally cannot function properly without her. The closest we have got to something like this was Timelord Victorious with 10 - largely because he didn't want to die. 12s motivation is absolutely... Hell Bent.... on Clara and Clara alone. He put himself through all of that so he can get to her again. These is something about a relationship like this, so powerful and all intense, that is not sexual that I find absolutely amazing. They are addicted to eachother, and you can tell that the actors are really good friends too (when you've finished with 12 I'll suggest some RUclips videos of the two of them being interviewed together). Some little tidbits about the episode. - 12 painted that painting of Clara - the room resets aren't perfect, if something happened enough times, the room would reset with the addition. So he painted that painting thousands of times until it became a permanent addition. This is also how the clues like "I'm in 12" got left. He put them thete - In the confession dial, the Died about 12 trillion times. TWELVE TRILLION! - In the earlier loops, he hadn't left any clues yet, so he spent months trying to find the way out. Months and Months of having to run every 50 or so minutes to the other side of the Castle. This was a fantastic reaction, that you so much for putting yourself through all that emotional distress for our enjoyment :)
Assuming it takes the The Doctor roughly two to three days per loop to reach the wall and "sharpen his beak," and he's been in the Confession Dial for about four and a half billion years, he has died anywhere from approximately 550 billion times to 820 billion times.
I used the same math, but assumed it's a week (he says that crawling back up to the teleporter to complete the loop adds a day and a half), so it comes out at rougly 234 billion for me.
This is the HARDEST reaction I have ever had to edit...I tried my best to get as much as I could in here. I ended up re-editing the entire thing over just to be sure it was okay. Hope you all like it :)

Shortlisted for an Emmy, totally should have won one. Absolutely sensational.
Episodes like this is why people hated The Moffat era and why people are happy he no longer writes for the show
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 It's called an opinion.
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 I think you're confusing season 9 episode 11 for season 9 episode 12. The next episode definitely demonstrates some of his worst weaknesses.
Finally, this is one of my favourite episodes.
Peter Capaldi is an amazing actor, he plays a phenomenal role so perfectly it makes you fall in love with him! He is by far, my favourite doctor, and I grew up watching Eccleston and Tennant!
Great reaction as always, I always look forward to watching your videos Shayla!
The music in this episode is amazing 'Breaking The Wall'
Took literally years before they released it too.
Breaking the Wall is what fans called it before it was actually released. The real title of the track is The Shepherd's Boy.
@@karkatvantas9557 It will always be Breaking the Wall for me
Dropped everything I was doing when I got the notification.
Personally, I think this is one hell of a reaction!
One of the greatest episodes of Doctor Who and one of Capaldi's best if not THE best!
Don't forget to watch the christmas special of season 9 ! You'll like it !
I loved the music that played as the Doctor's getting through shattering the diamond.
This is what you get when EVERYTHING is on point. Writing, Directing, acting, music....EVERYTHING is absolutly perfect on this episode. It is just amazing to watch. And it is even further improved by being watched directly after the harrowing episode before it.
So many similar feelings to when I first watched this one. Definitely one of my top Doctor Who episodes of all time.
I remember feeling so devasted after Clara's death. I forced myself to get on with it and was in awe of the genius behind episode
And there's one of the best episodes of all Doctor Who history. Plus one of Murray Gold's best works. Audience, get ready for Shayla's heart to get ripped out in the next episodes!
Capaldi is my favorite, definitely. Just love his Doctor, and the fact that he has such fantastic chemistry with my favorite companion doesn’t hurt either. ;)
I'm so happy you did this episode and watched them all in a row, it's such a work of art this show lol.
I am so happy you enjoyed it
My grandma likes to tell that Brother's Grimm story so I was so excited when it finally clicked for me what we was doing.
Fantastic Episode. Fantastic Music. More Fantastic Capaldi. And another fantastic reaction, thank you!!!!!
Amazing reaction as usual! It's so comforting to see you've grown to love the Twelfth Doctor so much. If he isn't your favorite now, he'll most certainly be after next series! :D
Your expression in the thumbnail is the perfect summary of the episode.
The best acting performance of the modern era, in my humble opinion. "Personally, I think that's one hell of an actor"
The last 3 episode of this season really broke my heart. I'm glad to know i'm not the only one
And for Shayla to watch all 3 at once for the first time - what a roller coaster!
Capaldi was already a top contender for favorite Doctor by his fourth episode, this episode solidified it. Absolutely loved his portrayal of The Doctor and his blend of what I felt was New and Old Who.
He's already missed, I really hope he does some Doctor Who audio-dramas
4:12 "is this a loop?"... definitely the earliest Ive seen that called
Same
Just when you think your in for an emotional episode of grief or an episode of watching the Doctor come down on his enemy like a ton of bricks, you feel like you were politely handed this gem of an episode where you are truly are made to feel the true amount of despair FOR the Doctor as he comes and goes for millions of years only briefly realizing each time.
This episode is a must for full reaction on Patreon
Say no words. That means you completely in the show. Best reaction ever.
Keep the emotion coming! That's why I like the reactions, it's genuine.
As a friend of mine puts it when asked who's her favorite Doctor. "The current one."
Speaking of current, Current Shayla needs to write a note for Future Shayla to tell her it's going to be OK when the regeneration happens.
“It’s funny, the day you lose someone isn’t the worst. At least you’ve got something to do. It’s all the days they stay dead.”
Thanks for sharing your raw emotions with us. That’s what we enjoy watching, and being able to relive these moments through you. 😊
This is my favourite Doctor Who episode. Capaldi is such phenomenal actor and with amazing scripts he shines.
Glad you really liked this episode :)
and wasn't Murray Gold's score amazing too!
Probably one of the best episodes ever. So amazing!
Good on you for barely avoiding the curse.
This episode. This. This is a work of art. It's one of the best episodes, in my opinion, of television I've ever seen, and Capaldi's performance, just Capaldi, was fantastically amazing. And the music at the end is one of my favorite pieces of all time. It's all phenomenal.
Capaldi is My Doctor. And this episode is one of (many) reasons. A true classic.
This is my favorite episode of Doctor Who ever. There is so much subtext in this episode. Part of it is a love story, a revenge plot, but to me, it's a great metaphor about grief.
"It’s funny. The day you lose someone isn’t the worst - at least you’ve got something to do. It’s all the days they stay dead."
That line has always stuck with me.
Never clicked faster for anything before in my life.
One of the greatest episodes of the show IMO. Also, wow, you started to catch on when we saw the skulls! Props for figuring out before a lot of us had
Edit: you at least started to get the idea then
That was absolutely amazing, I have been waiting for this episode for so long and I was not at all let down.
He put them thete
- In the confession dial, the Died about 12 trillion times.
The music in this episode was amazingly beautiful... And makes me cry. Not just because of this episode.
10:02 that face when you realize it was a confession dial in the literal sense
Lol, obviously an amazing episode and reaction, but I can't be the only one who wonders where all the chairs in the sea are?
Looks like the camera did attempt to fall to reactors curse to this episode but you only just beat it so well done Shayla
I think this episode actually won an award? If I'm not mistaken. It is really very well done
