I can imagine how he might've wanted to leave exploring the post-War Gallifrey to his successor, so it'd stay consistent and would be easier to present in an entire season rather then a single episode.
@GhostPlay I like the episode overall (though the script, if they had kept in certain lines/scenes would have taken it to be almost as good as Heaven Sent, imo), but I _love_ Clara trying to be like the Doctor and accepting the consequences of it... but her getting to walk away from it kinda cheapens it a little... but I can kinda imagine some exec taking a look at Raven through to Husbands and then insisting on a "happy" resolution so that people aren't on a downer during the holiday season (since series 9 was airing right through into December). Even though she's loving the show, I'm glad Shayla's taking (took?) a break after this one, for that reason. A nice clean slate for Christmas.

This episode gets a real bad rap, but it always worked for me as the conclusion to 12 and Clara’s unique, oftentimes unhealthy, codependent relationship.
i would have preferred it if she didnt go flying off in a tardis and instead just faced the raven. would have made a pretty emotional scene. also a lot of the cheesy speeches and melodrama near the end could have gone too, but the ep as a whole really isnt that bad. its more just missed potential
@David Roberts On Doctor Who discussion boards that I'm familiar with, this episode tends to get singled out for particular opprobrium. Not that there aren't plenty of people who like or love it, but it definitely gets a disproportionate amount of hate. There's nothing statistically significant in that, but it's definitely there.
My favorite part of your reaction shows how much this season meant to you. "Four billion years, four billion years... To have enough leverage to... it... I... those two... I just... I'm so speechless like... I'd... I... The..."
Poor Shayla, watching those three in a row, I can't imagine what it would have been like if you had watched the Christmas special right away ! I freaking love your reactions
YOU, YOUNG LADY, ARE A TROOPER!!! I had to go back and check in the archive to the reaction posts in early April (since you practically date-stamped when you viewed these episodes), when you mentioned your anxiety attacks. I don't know how you managed to put yourself through ALL that in one night! In my heart of hearts, I hope you took the time to take a breather from the series and come back refreshed. I think it goes without saying that we appreciate all the time and effort you put into these reactions.
This episode is definitely one of my favorites and the ending always kills me..this actually came out my senior year of high school and I used the run like hell line as my senior quote...but really this season is my favorite I think..thank you for sticking with this show! The next two specials are amazing next season and the season after are both amazing..good luck
Honestly, next season - Just don't watch the season finale episodes in one sitting! No wonder you're emotionally drained. Still - thanks for these reactions, they've been remarkable!
That was a hell of a binge for one night. Hopefully you got some good rest afterwards. Can't wait for Xmas. Wonderfully raw reactions, great 3 episode run!
Uh-oh. I think both of Shayla's hearts broke when the Doctor didn't remember Clara in the diner. This must have been a very emotionally-exhausting night for you. At least you were happier after watching this episode though. It's a bittersweet ending. I laughed so hard when you threw the pen. :D I'm not surprised you wanted a break after this. It felt like these last few episodes put you through the wringer (especially Face The Raven) but at least Past Shayla ended it with a healthy mindset. Hope you really enjoy the Christmas specials!
This show had great writing (especially with Clara) that made you just go through so many emotions in such a short period of time: funny, absolutely sad, hopeful, tragedy. It’s such a range of emotions watching these shows with Clara and (both) doctors. It’s almost like collateral beauty (not the movie, but the concept). The beauty that’s all around us and within us, even in tragedy. An Doctor Who did this so well with Clara.
Shayla 2:40 - 2:48 who did you think it was that the Dr had gone back to see? One year later, Happy Quarantine everybody! Timey wimey you can never keep it straight in ya head
Series 9 and Series 4 are tied for my favorite of New Who. Similarly, 12 and Clara are tied with 11 and Donna for my favorite. Edit: 10 and Donna. Not sure why 11 showed up, he must think I’m James Corden.
Beautiful reaction sweetie. Doctor Who does this repeatedly. But the pain and passion never goes away. I'm like you, I adore 12 and Clara. It's the best 'non-romantic' relationship ever produced by this show and any other. Although, I would've loved to see Jack appear somewhat like River throughout their run for fun. Well I guess we had Missy ;) Bring on season 9
I loved this episode so much! I know you've decided to wait a month to start reacting again, but I hope you decided to react to the next Christmas special. :)
@Just Jay I know it took a lot of people to warm up to Peter, but I loved Peter right out of the gate. I thought his entire tenure was wonderful. :) Everything I see Peter in is wonderful! :)
Glad you liked this episode and Series 9 as a whole. As a series and this episode in particular, it is very divisive and a lotta people hate it. I personally think the series is very admirable in being experimental and should at least be respected for pushing the limits in terms of character dynamics/development and storytelling (these last two episodes in particular) even if you don't like the execution. While I do love the execution so I'm biased on it, but I do think this series is one of the best and most interesting in all of DW history, especially regarding character-centric drama. Series 10 is also another favourite series of mine, so looking forward to seeing your reactions there.
Next ep will fix you, but you might cry a bit. 😁 One thing nobody talks about much that I always liked about this is that Me has a friend to travel with. 🥰
I was so hoping that Clara would get her own spin-off, wouldn't that be cool? Her going through time and space in a tardis that looks like a diner. People would see the diner and just walk in and sit down not knowing what it really is. It would be great storytelling 😊
Loved your Reactions so much. The Doctor's Mother was from Earth. That was the Woman Wilf kept seeing. Get a box of tissues, take one out and roll it into a ball. You can then throw that at the screen without causing any damage.
I gotta say, when this young lady started reacting to this show she was a newbie that was so green to the series, and believed she would probably take some time to "get' the show. But boy! NOW, in such a short time she has become more Whovian than many long time Whovians!!!! This show was made for ScFi lovers like her and I applaud her love and passion for the show, which reflects how many of us long time (and not so long time) fans feel for this long running adventure in space and time tv series called Dr Who.
I know your saying you hate the show. But it's so brilliant to see someone just loving and enjoying the show. Some Sci-fi and fantasy fans i have found have become entitled and just nasty about the shows they purport to enjoy. Its so refreshing to see someone just having a good time and appreciating what they have in front of them and having a good time.
Thank you! I try that outlook on everything I watch, cause why bother with the negatives? SO much better when I can sit and analyze but in a positive way.
@@JustSoShayla Its just more fun to have fun. I have become so sick of the entitled fans of Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Game of Thrones etc, just ripping apart the shows they 'pretend' to enjoy, for the views. And not in a Satirical "How it Should Have Ended way", but in a "Here is My personal Fanfiction: Why didn't [x] make my Fanfiction for me?" Or even worse, to be seen as rebelling against 'Political Correctness'. As if they are forced to consume the media they do, and haven't made a conscious decision to watch the shows and films they watch. Its more fun to have fun. To enjoy the shows, to be surprised, to suspect disbelief. And if it doesn't tickle you this time? Oh well. There is always next time. I know people that weren't fans of Capaldi, that loved Matt Smith - and vice versa. In a series like this, its *fine*, both groups get something they can enjoy. Then wait, patiently, enjoying the bits they like, and rolling their eyes at the bits they don't like, until it rotates around again, a we get a new companion, a new Doctor, a new Tardis, a New Sonic. And if you really prefer the old, and don't want to adapt at all? Thats fine. The DVD's are available. And there is an anniversary coming up. Doctor who isn't for everyone. It *Has* something for everyone. And that is what makes it last in my opinion. That's why its TV's Longest Running Sci-Fi series of all time. Not because its always good. But because it changes, and adapts, and embraces the new and different. I just sometimes wish the fanbase would embrace that philosophy more. And there is always, always, so much more to come. Thanks for enjoying the series, and sharing that enjoyment with others. Whether its laughing, crying, or screaming in frustration. Its just fun. There's enough misery in the world. Why not just have fun?
In terms of chemistry and sheer acting performance, I think 12 and Clara were my favourite combination. But change has always been an essential part of the show's makeup: you fall in love with a Doctor or companion; get heartbroken when they leave, but eventually find yourself getting invested in a new one. This combo is hard to beat though.
"I'm so sick of this show" GOD SAME THO HH omg the fact that you watched all three of those episodes back to back is so wild. Respect tho. Watching these three episodes was an emotional roller coaster for me as well, just feel lucky that you DID get to watch one right after the other, because being caught up and having to wait a WEEK between each was a PAIN. Losing Clara was probably one of the hardest hits on me, since she's such a vital character especially when it comes to the Doctor and his well being, and their love for each other. Also, the Doctor finding Gallifrey again?? That made me SCREAM, that scene is so fucking important. It's the first time the Doctor had been on Gallifrey on screen ((and not in a flash back)) since Classic Who. the Doctor putting himself through a 4 and half billion year torture chamber JUST so he can get Clara back cuts DEEP. He didn't even do that to find Gallifrey again, he didn't care about Gallifrey, he wanted HER.
Ladies and gentleman, Shayla's reaction to how long the Doctor was trapped. Seriously though, great video as usual. I hope series 9 will keep the momentum going for you in future DW reactions. You're still in for a hell of a ride!
I really still enjoy this episode a lot! Edit: Absolutely can't wait for the Christmas special! Its gonna be so much fun! 12 and clara are the definition of relationship goals. Get you someone that will go through 4 and a half billion years to try and save you!
Shayla: "I have armor up and nothing else can hurt me." Doctor Who: "Challenge fucking accepted." I love this finale. So many great lines. Nothing is sad until its over, then everything is. Stories and songs are where memories go when they're forgotten. The Doctor's parting wisdom to Clara is great. Especially the part about the pears.
i just realized the same bar place that Clara and the Doctor were in is the same place that the 11th doctor was in when Amy and Rory found out there version of there Doctor didnt die and the blue envelope was on the table.
11:23 - "(-through tears-) Fuck...I'm so sick of this show..." Me: That's what I came here to see. XD Seriously though, I love your reactions, and you're always brilliant. Keep your spirits up, yeah? -hugs tight-
I believe you are reacting to the next Christmas special? What about the one after that (there was a year break in the show)? As for Series 10, have you finalized the stories you are reacting to? I am pretty certain you will be reacting to stories 1, 6-8 (it is a 3 parter), 11&12, and the Christmas special. If you can, I think seeing you react to 2,4, and 5 would be amazing! Hopefully you will let us know soon!
Glad you made it Shayla, looking forward to the next one. Stephen Moffat really made sure a lot of loose ends that needed to have closure, got it and he did it really sensitively and beautifully. Capaldi was a great Doctor and so Clara and him were indeed brilliant :)

Also am totally with you on The Doctor and Clara. Its so perfect - I love it.
Keep in mind that there are two Christmas specials after this before series 10 starts. They took a break as well.
This episode gets a real bad rap, but it always worked for me as the conclusion to 12 and Clara’s unique, oftentimes unhealthy, codependent relationship.
@David Roberts Cool down? A lot of people who rank episodes dont like this one. It also was a lower rating from some rating sites.
i would have preferred it if she didnt go flying off in a tardis and instead just faced the raven. would have made a pretty emotional scene. also a lot of the cheesy speeches and melodrama near the end could have gone too, but the ep as a whole really isnt that bad. its more just missed potential
I hated all the stuff on Gallifrey and I hated her flying off in the TARDIS.
@@crunchyfrog63 I never listen to reason.....
Take your break. Hell, Doctor Who did: there was a year break between the next two Christmas specials.
It was an excruciating wait...
“The next time I’m gonna cry is when he leaves”....... oh you silly silly Shayla. Lol
First ten minutes are now my favorite western.
Many people hate this episode ; I think it's complex, plenty of layers, and beautiful.
I still can't watch this episode without crying.
My favorite part of your reaction shows how much this season meant to you.
"Four billion years, four billion years...
To have enough leverage to...
it...
I...
those two...
I just...
I'm so speechless like...
I'd...
I...

Whole day I've been wondering if it's DW on Saturday week or not. Yes.
Ikr
"The Doctor and Clara are my favorite."
*Season 10 breaks through wall of feelz* "You ain't seen nothing yet!"
Poor Shayla, watching those three in a row, I can't imagine what it would have been like if you had watched the Christmas special right away !
I freaking love your reactions
The intro to my favorite sonic screwdriver. Loved the blue, bought one of my own.
It was A NIGHT. I am also glad I ended on a happyish note.
This was one of the best 12th doctor episodes. You can see the rage of a timelord and the love he has for clara
I'm just gonna add my favourite line here: "I had a duty of care".
How far we've come from "She's my carer - she cares so I don't have to."
The Christmas special after this is one I've been waiting to see you react to :)
This and the last episode are definitely the best of the season
Shayla 2:40 - 2:48 who did you think it was that the Dr had gone back to see?
One year later, Happy Quarantine everybody!
Timey wimey you can never keep it straight in ya head
Series 9 and Series 4 are tied for my favorite of New Who.
Similarly, 12 and Clara are tied with 11 and Donna for my favorite.
Edit: 10 and Donna. Not sure why 11 showed up, he must think I’m James Corden.
Firefly 24601 You mean 10 and Donna??
Haha you mean 10 & Donna (they're so good!). I totally agree though, series 9 & 4 are my absolute favorite series of New Who.
@@RetroButt Same. Season 10 being third and 6 being fourth. Then 5 and all the others can be chucked in any order.
@@RetroButt I'm glad you stressed modern who, and agreed, I grew up with classic who and for me its the 4th doctor
Alright, I'm going to head to Darillium now.
I cried so much in these episodes knowing that the doctor went through all of that, over and over again, for 4.5 billion years just for Clara.
Smile for me one last time 😢😢 that part always gets me.
It's absolutely insane for me to imagine, even with other culture and other daily life, how much the reactions of Doctor Who are so similar
‘I need to throw something’😂😂
Season 9 was the best season! I love your reactions so much
"I've got armor now."
And that armor will be breached in three, two, one...
The restaurant at the end of the universe :p
"I'm so sick of this show" See you next week for Season 10 :)
I was just thinking about adventures involving Clara and Me - when they meet Jenny.
Those three could be exceptional.
Series 10 is also another favourite series of mine, so looking forward to seeing your reactions there.
it's great series with Capaldi and Jenna,I love this couple
11:21
Doctor looking out the window: Is that a diner floating around in space?
"I'm amped up. I'm not amped up, I'm scared and sad."
-every fan of this show
Next ep will fix you, but you might cry a bit. 😁
One thing nobody talks about much that I always liked about this is that Me has a friend to travel with. 🥰
Jenna Coleman and Maisee Williams in "The Impossible Girls"..........coming soon (let's hope)
@@mikebarlow214 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! we certainly do NOT need it!
Best. Companion departure. Ever. And yeah, 12 and Clara are my favorite Doctor/companion relationship, too.
It's a matter of opinion but she died 2 episodes ago it was stupid bringing her back and ruined her initial death in the 1st place!
Steven Moffat said in the cannon of doctor who that the Hybrid was the Doctor and Clara
Oooo okay awesome, that's what I've been thinking in my head since I watched this episode.
I was so hoping that Clara would get her own spin-off, wouldn't that be cool? Her going through time and space in a tardis that looks like a diner. People would see the diner and just walk in and sit down not knowing what it really is. It would be great storytelling 😊
Shayla: I hate this show
Us: No you don't
Come back Monday for more hating things when you really love them
What a roller coaster you've gone through. Those three episodes back-to-back-to-back. If it were me I don't know if a one-month break would be enough.
"I am amped up - I'm not amped up, I'm scared and sad but what are you gonna do?"
honestly me 90% of the time
Loved your Reactions so much. The Doctor's Mother was from Earth. That was the Woman Wilf kept seeing. Get a box of tissues, take one out and roll it into a ball. You can then throw that at the screen without causing any damage.
I don't think I've seen anyone love a show more than you saying "I hate this show"😂😂 Great reaction!!!
Well now ima cry, again. Can't wait for 10x11, 10x12 and the Xmas Special after series 10. Tears will be flooding.
Clara’s reaction when she heard “4 billion years”... gets me every time.
You have a headache because you're dehydrated. Keep water with you.
Oh wow, thank you so much!
And not in a Satirical "How it Should Have Ended way", but in a "Here is My personal Fanfiction: Why didn't [x] make my Fanfiction for me?"
Or even worse, to be seen as rebelling against 'Political Correctness'.
You're 9 series in, you love this show! ;) Now on to my favourite 12 season...after the 2 specials.
Series 9 finale!!! Wow... this is going really fast. Ur nearly all caught up. I don't want these reactions to end😭😭😭
"I'm so sick of this show" GOD SAME THO HH
omg the fact that you watched all three of those episodes back to back is so wild.
And the finnale!
Love the new sonic screwdriver
Series 9 is a very strong contcontender for my favorite too.
That's not 'healthy' - that's stage 3: *Bargaining!*
"Why do they cut away when I want to hear what I want to hear?"
That conversation wasn't for you. It was just for them.
Shayla: I hate this show.
11: No you don't.
"i have Armour now"
Moffat loads Armour piercing rounds into high grade sniper rifle.
I have been waiting several seasons for the next reaction, glad you are almost there
Clicked on this so fast 😉 cant wait to watch this
Probably the most controversial episode in Doctor Who history 😂 I personally love it
Ladies and gentleman, Shayla's reaction to how long the Doctor was trapped.
Pound for pound, 12 has the BEST Christmas specials.
Shayla: "I have armor up and nothing else can hurt me." Doctor Who: "Challenge fucking accepted."
I love this finale. So many great lines. Nothing is sad until its over, then everything is. Stories and songs are where memories go when they're forgotten. The Doctor's parting wisdom to Clara is great. Especially the part about the pears.
Oops, just posted almost exactly the same line before seeing this. Err, great minds think alike ? ;)
i just realized the same bar place that Clara and the Doctor were in is the same place that the 11th doctor was in when Amy and Rory found out there version of there Doctor didnt die and the blue envelope was on the table.
Your 'ball of fire' reactions are a complete joy :) lots more to love when you return from your decompression break!
I waited 4.5 billion years for this one, it’s so great. Next one u will really like. Told ya season 8 and 9 rule
1:18 - "It's like I have armor up now, and nothing else can hurt me."
Me: (-grabbing popcorn-) Oh, honey...we'll see about that.
11:23 - "(-through tears-) Fuck...I'm so sick of this show..."
Me: That's what I came here to see. XD
Seriously though, I love your reactions, and you're always brilliant. Keep your spirits up, yeah? -hugs tight-
Yay S10 is nexttt!! I can't wait to watch the reactions
Husbands is first
@@iz723 yea
I believe you are reacting to the next Christmas special? What about the one after that (there was a year break in the show)? As for Series 10, have you finalized the stories you are reacting to? I am pretty certain you will be reacting to stories 1, 6-8 (it is a 3 parter), 11&12, and the Christmas special. If you can, I think seeing you react to 2,4, and 5 would be amazing! Hopefully you will let us know soon!
Now she can start watching season 1 of "Clara and Me"
I really love this season finale. It’s a nice send off for Clara, although it’s guttering that the Doctor doesn’t remember her
Well, he took a year off so you've got two Christmas Specials next!
Such a great episode and a fitting end to Clara's time with the Doctor.😢
The next episode will make you extremely happy, you don't need a break
Glad you made it Shayla, looking forward to the next one. Stephen Moffat really made sure a lot of loose ends that needed to have closure, got it and he did it really sensitively and beautifully. Capaldi was a great Doctor and so Clara and him were indeed brilliant :)
