- Earlier this week, “The Crow” actor Michael Massee died at the age of 61 of an unknown cause.
Massee was unfortunately most known for accidentally killing Brandon Lee on the set of their movie “The Crow” in 1993. In 2005, he broke his silence on the freak accident, telling “Extra,” “Since then, I’m very conscious of the dangers of making a movie… What happened to Brandon was a tragic accident and it’s something that I’m going to live with.” This was the only time Massee spoke out about the tragedy in front of cameras.
Poor guy. I can’t even imagine the pain of accidentally killing someone.
Even up to his own death of stomach cancer in 2016, I don’t think he ever got over it. And for this, I feel very sorry for him
just at the wrong time in the wrong place. A complete coincidence
what makes it even more painful is that Brandon was his friend . i like to think since now michael has passed on . brandon forgives him in the next life . i think he told him
Well, to be fair, HE didn't accidently kill Brandon. It was the guy responsible for making sure the prop gun was safe.
@@firestream93 true
Michael if people are reunited after we pass, Brandon would be the first one to tell you it wasn't your fault.
How can u know? Wasn’t his fault we never knows only god knows
@@concac314 Are you brain dead? This actor has nothing to do with the department that provides weapons on set.

Wouldn’t you? How horrible it was.
He was not to blame. He was the wrong person, holding the wrong prop, at the wrong time. It was a tragic accident and this poor man had to live the rest of his days with this on his conscience. I'm heartbroken for him. I hope he has found peace x

In case you didn't know, he's dead now... although maybe thats what you meant by you hope he has found peace
You can see the stress. How could he get over anything like that!
He passed, yet every headline mentions how he accidentally killed Brandon. It's disgusting. His death was tragic, but the fact that he had to live with it is just as worse. Imagine having to apologize to his family and friends knowing it wasn't your fault. Imagine people hating you for that. Imagine the impact of having to try and film anything else with a prop and being afraid of something bad happening. It's one thing to kill in war, another to be evil and kill for pleasure or revenge, but being feeling responsible for a death that was 100% not your fault? Life-shattering.

one of the most profound comments on youtube... michael handled this tragedy in a well composed manner
i would like to think they were tied together in this life and the next.
Rest In Peace Michael Massee. It was never your fault.
I don’t blame him at all in fact a lot of people understood it wasn’t his fault he didn’t mean it nobody means to do that at least he takes responsibility and doesn’t act like a coward like Alec Baldwin. Alec Baldwin never even wants to admit he made a mistake he just wants to blame the tool he just wants to blame everybody else but him like everything is a conspiracy to Alec Baldwin even the FBI say this is outrageous. All had to deal with admit the same as what Michael Massee admitted. If Alec Baldwin admitted what he had done he would’ve gotten a pass but instead nope he is the biggest selfish ass.
@@monkeycat48 I think part of it is that Alec Baldwin is an overindulged Hollywood A-lister whose fame got to his head and instilled a sense of self-importance and narcissism, which is why he is unwilling to take responsibility and likely feels he is a bigger victim than the actual victim, who nobody ever talked about before what happened
Michael Massee was never much of a household name, he treated his acting career as just a job, and thus he felt as crushed by what happened as, say, a construction worker would feel if a fatal industrial accident happened in their hands on the site
It realy was never your fault rest in pace godd bease YOU
He always felt responsible for Brandon's death. I hope in death he can finally meet Brandon again and know once and for all he wasn't guilty. I know Brandon would not hold him responsible.
How do you know what someone you never even knew would think dipshit? I'm sure Brandon is not exactly tickled pink that his life was cut short either!
We hope so! :'(

And
RIP Brandon Lee (February 1, 1965 - March 31, 1993), aged 28
You both will be remembered as legends
He was very courageous to talk about this terrible accident. RIP
The guy was handed a gun by the prop master or armourer, it's not his job as a actor to make sure the guns are safe and ready for switching between blank and live firing... feel bad for the guy
It's the full responsibility of the Armourer to check the gun over, NOT the actor, the dumb fuck prop guy had no weapon experience, let alone armoury experience, he is the one responsible
They said it wasn't a bullet but something else. Like the prop gun broke and accidentally fired a something in him.
The gun had been firing live rounds the day before and a fragment got jammed in the chamber, they loaded the gun with blanks but the pressure was enough to send out the fragment that killed brandon
Morphine Motorhead not a fragment..they were making dummy bullets with fired blanks but accidently made one thag wasnt fired so it had charge....( so it had charge and bullet but no gun powder) after the primer was fired the lead bullet was fired enough to get stuck in the barrel..crew didnt know and 14 days it stayed in the gun then they put blanks in it essentially creating a real bullet because it now had a primer, gun powder, and lead tip..and thats how he got shot..crazy accident that should of never happened if they didnt rush and make dummh rounds out of blanks
Blanks have 3x the ammoubt of gun pouder as real bullets have for a louder sound so with the led end stuck in the barrel firing 3x as much punch than a regular bullet he didnt have a chance
It's sad knowing Michael blamed himself for accidentally causing Brandon's death and you can hear the guilt in his voice,I hope he found peace when he passed away

Just by watching this, you can tell that Michael Massee has continuously suffered from the accidental killing of Brandon Lee. I don't think Brandon would have wanted Michael to continue to suffer for this tragic accident and I hope that Michael and Brandon, where ever they are now have spoken in the after life and found ultimate forgiveness and peace with one another...I believe that there is an after life and I do believe that Brandon and Michael went to heaven and that they have finally found peace. Michael Massee was a class act. He was also a victim in Brandon's death. I have a feeling his life was never the same after that happened. When he talked about Eliza Hutton playing in the park with her daughter, and that child not being Brandon's, I sensed his pain in what he said despite him meaning for that comment to portray a positive thing.
You’re right, on this day, 1.5 half people died. 😐
@@Kackspack0815 well, maybe 2.5 if we count Eliza and his mother as well.
This man has now passed, can we just have a moment for him - not his fault ! The film company the prop person the corners cut to save money - that is the issue here. Brandon is gone and we love him and miss him - please do not blame this man for the circumstance that happened.

In Memory of Michael Massee
Came here after the recent gun accident on a movie set with Alec Baldwin. My thoughts are with the victims and the victim's families, but we mustn't forget that the person who pulled the trigger unknowingly is a victim as well. The way he talks about it is so sad, you can tell he's healed but the wound is still there and never went away. Rest in peace Lee and rest in peace Massee.
My dad was murdered by gun 4 years before Brandon.
@@butchreed213 I lost my dad when I was 5 due to a car accident. Although he was not murdered, I understand how it feels to lose someone so suddenly and tragically. I am sorry for your loss.
It would've been very awful for him to hear about the news about the "Rust"'s DP death. It'd be like opening old wounds.
Unfortunately people aren’t so forgiving with Baldwin just for his political views. Both were tragic accidents and the person who pulled the trigger doesn’t deserve to be dragged through the mud
True i kno ppl dont like alec but he did not try to kill her, it was an accident.
3:04 you can just hear the sharp pain in his voice crack.. Poor guy.
Brandon is hugging his boy REAL tight saying "Look at me! I love you, man You Hear Me?" I love you so much Michael
After all those years you can still see the pain in his eyes. Taking a life, even accidentaly, must be the most difficult thing a human being has to live with. No way you drop that, you can only shake it from a shoulder to another.
Us losing Brandon was hard... Him living with that is ten times harder
Well said.
He's right, he doesn't have to mention it in conversation because it isn't relevant to the person he's talking to. Why should he apologize to a stranger, when he already apologized to Brandon's then-fiancé, Eliza, and his family? The very people whom he should have apologized to because they were directly impacted by their personal loss.
Its not his fault the bullet was in the gun. It is the job of the FIRE ARMS EXPERT not the actor's job to check the weapons before they are used. The guy in this video is NOT responsible for brandons death, it was a accident.
Siya Manci A real bullet tip was lodged in the gun due to a decision decision to convert real bullets into blanks and dummy rounds. The belief is that a dummy round still had a live primer with enough Force to pop the bullet tip into the barrel of the gun, and it was not properly checked before someone put a blank into the gun and handed it to the actor.
He may feel guilty, but he is not responsible. There should be a Firearms Master on set that's supposed to handle all of this crap properly. He just takes the gun and does as directed, when directed.
Siya Manci You're a Fuckin Idiot
I feel bad that Michael felt, and others felt, that he needed to apologize for something that was not his fault. I would still apologize, if I was in a similar situation to Mucheal's, though. Michael had to carry this burden that he didn't deserve to carry. It's so tragic and sad.
Why should he apologise at all?
R.I.P. to both Brandon Lee and Michael Massee. Such a terrible incident for both of them. Michael wasn't responsible at all for what happened and I can't imagine having to live with this all his life. I hope he found peace. Brandon wouldn't have blamed him for what happened.
It's sad that the only thing this guy is remembered for is how he accidently killed Brandon Lee.

I know Brandon wrapped his arms around Michael and kissed him on the cheek up there. He is hugging his bro REAL tight 🥹
Anyone that would've had that prop gun would be Brandon's "killer". It wasn't anyone's fault that pulled the trigger, it's the failure of the prop crew for not seeing this defect.
They sent the fire arms expert home early that day. The whole thing was probably planned and rigged to get rid of Bruce Lee's son.
You can hear him how deeply he felt at that moment. RIP
I feel so bad for this actor. He was the only person who really wasn’t to blame.

Michael Massee deserves to rest in peace. He is obviously torn up about it. He was a good man. Played a lot of awful characters in his career but that's the quality of actor he was. Good man acting like a villain and pulling it off well=great acting to me.

Brandon met him in the afterlife to hug him and tell him it’s ok and we’re together again. I firmly believe in that.
I believe that too. They were good friends. It's just tragic, all the way around. The fact that Brandon's then-fiance shops in Michael's wife's shop to this day, tells me the Lee family has totally forgiven him. What's not to forgive? Just a horrible accident.

Michael Massee said in another interview. Once Brandon was killed. He didn.t want to discuss it with the Media. Took a year off once The Crow was finished. Movie came out in 94. Michael wasn.t at the Opening for the Crow. Says he still blames himself.

Poor Michael Massee he don't deserve this. Rest in Peace Both Brandon Lee and Michael Massee.
He died of stomach cancer and it was so strange, that when the doctors discovered the cancer in his stomach, it started spreading from the same place that bullet hit Brandon Lee. it was an accident and for him was a big trauma. He was great actor who suffered much from this tragedy. He didn't kill Brandonon purpose, he didn't know about the gun and like he said you will never get over such thing. He is not a murderer. It was awful when the announce his death "The actor who shot Brandon Lee has died". Like he is a killer. He was an actor, not bloody cold murderer. He had many good roles to be remembered for, and not the tragedy.
I don’t blame Michael at all, I blame the prop gun master for being so careless

During this interview, I hope Brandon's ghost was wrapping his arms around Michael telling him how much he loves him and telling him how Proud he is of him for moving forward in his life and continuing his career. And he kissed him on the cheek 🥹

It’s a shame that this man has since passed. If he was alive I’d like to think he’d reach out to Alec Baldwin and remind him that while what happened was tragic, it wasn’t his fault.
It was a little bit Baldwin's fault though. As the producer of the film, he has a responsibility in the conditions of work decried by union workers who complained about a lack of safety on the set before being replaced by non union workers :/

Really sad and tragically unfortunate. Whenever I see The Crow I also think of this actor, Michael, and what he and the prop crew went through psychologically. We’ll never know what Lee could have done in movies - he was just beginning to hit his stride and The Crow may have launched him to the big time.
Very good interview. You can see he is still dealing with the accident and he handled the aftermath respectfully. I am sure Brandon’s loved ones are grateful that this was the only interview where Michael spoke about the tragedy.
Brandon never would have blamed Michael. He would have said "I'm truly sorry you had to live with this."
After he said that to Michael, Brandon would've also said "Oh, wipe those weeping eyes baby, Look at me! I love you, You Hear Me?" And I also know he kissed him on the forehead.
To me, he will always be known as the best villain on 24.
"That's right, Jack, I'm watching you".
Poor guy accidentally killing someone with a bad prop the emotional pain must of been unreal
That’s a guilt and burden that no person should have to bare. The look in his face, eyes and the sound of his voice. There’s pain, anxiety and regret all over it.
At least he is in peace now and Brandon can tell him, himself that it was not his fault.
I’m sure Linda Caldwell (Brandon’s mother/Bruce Lee’s wife) would have told him also. She’s such a soft spoken, kind and compassionate person.

Sad story he even said that the scene was not not supposed to happen and he said the director changed the scene so there we have our answers
Although I sometimes speculate Brandon and Bruce's death being a coordinated assassination from rivals, I never put the blame on this man. I can't imagine what it must've felt like to accidentally place a fatal round into someone at point blank range. That is a heavy toll to carry. Furthermore, when you attend weapons training, you put all of your faith in the firearm instructor to have everything in check. It's a similar situation here. He was given the gun from an expert handler. He's an actor whose only job is to point and pull the trigger. He didn't know all the particulars.
