The distortion helps out with defining the lower notes. I play at E0, but I've got a Darkglass Alpha-Omicron in front of an Ampeg PF-50T through an Acme Low B-1 amp. Basically, it's the best combo I found that could recreate the lows without utterly breaking the bank.
Since distortion is also related to harmonics in a way, i've come here to say that now i oficially know my ears can only hear slightly below F0 cus anything lower than that and all i can pick on are some overtones, but not the rumble of the 20hz itself
Dude. I never ever comment on RUclips videos but I just wanna say that this video is so awesome. Quick and to the point. You do exactly what you said you were gonna do. Awesome awesome bass playing. And like? I didn't have to sit and listen to you talk about each one making a perfect perfect 4 minute video into a 12 minute one. Absolutely groovy dude. And that lowest tuning! That's so cool! Incredible that you were still able to play with the string moving that slowly!
you can even look up some isolated track stems from them of just bass and drums if you're extra curious, of course the overtones of the guitar being present helps bring out the lower notes pitch intent more
E1 00:13 E0 02:44 E-1 03:01 Hope that's helpful Btw E-1 sounds the same as E0 plus acoustic noise because we actually hear the octave harmonic. Isnt it fun
It's cool because I have perfect pitch, and 2 octaves lower than regular tuning doesn't really make sense to me, but at least I hear it getting deeper, even though I can't really recognize a pitch!!! Thanks for the awesome video. My bandmates hate when I even go lower than a b1 lol
@@WLxMusic some rare people can hear in a slightly larger hz range. I'm not one of them but apparently it's not a huge difference either so I wouldn't be impressed.
You do realize there's only 12 notes, right? A, A#/Bb, B, C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#. The only other contributing factor is which octave you're in, which still uses these same notes, just in a higher or lower register.
I just used a pitch shifter and I pitch shifted the bit where you tuned down to E-1 Standard. I can happily confirm that you did indeed tune that low :)
So the obvious is, that bass line is absolutely badass. I really like the tonality in C Standard for this, it has an almost breathy quality in conjunction with your tone that sounds super cool.
Just gonna say sum about the bass, not the bassist but the bass. Good Lordy even in standard tuning it had a bunch of fret buzz. For me I like my action to be a bit higher so that I don’t have a lot of fret buzz. But anyway, great job on this vid Nathan!!
I have this weird thing where certain songs/melodies give me an uncontrollable feeling of anxiety for no reason whatsoever and somehow this riff gives me exactly that.
since the 50s, the Russians and others did experiments about low frequency and crowd control. Some of these lower frequencies cause anxiety and mental and physical distress (like emptying bowels) if used as crowd control with massive speakers and low frequencies…
So guys, is it reasonable to play in D#0 standard on a long scale bass with a 0.2 string or something? Will it sound like anything at all or will it be just a dry fart at this point? Really wanna make an 11-string guitar tuned from D#0 to E4 with super long scale (maybe like 32 - 37 inches multiscale) but I'm not at all sure it's worth it
This was a really nice demonstration :-) Appreciated. To my ears, G0 Standard seems to be the lowest you can go if you still want the lowest note to sound like an actual note.
@@mrenergy5364 Hello Mr Energy and thank you for the question... :-) I don't really know if I was specific enough when I wrote "actual note" and what I meant by it... Obviously a note that you couldn't hear with your ears is as much of a note as one that you could hear with your ears... (I think so at least :-)) I've been thinking about that... Like what would it sound like with an eight string guitar with a bass guitar underneath...? I'm thinking obviously (mostly) about the lowest notes. I think it could work out pretty well... With the right thickness and length of the lowest bass string I guess... What would actually sound the best is probably up for debate and it is also probably somewhat subjective... Especially if we are talking about the lowest tuned string on a guitar and/or bass guitar... Like... Does it start to sound not as good as some point even though you would have the right thickness and length when it comes to the string...? I like that you mention this expression "sweet spot"... As an example, I have an Ibanez guitar here tuned one and a half step down and when I play that bottom string as an open string, palm-muted or not, or I turn it into a power chord (quite strange term by the way when it is only two notes), I don't feel like I need to go lower... For the most part at least... So maybe that is like a sweet spot for me. But I think it could also be nice to go lower at times... A seven string, tuned to standard for example... Or tune it down a whole step like Munky and Head does in KoRn. As far as eight string goes and having a bass guitar underneath I think it could work. But I don't think it would make that much sense going that much lower than standard. I would go the other way as in higher tuning. I do have wondered how Meshuggah would sound like with a bass guitar tuned an octave lower that the guitars... I think most of their songs are played on eight string guitars, tuned a half step down.
this video it's actually healing for crazy downtuners (like myself) mental health, I may sleep tonight (and strop restringing my guitar to get any lower than A tuning, since I can now say that anything below it, makes any sense when you just want to sound LOW AF keeping all the groove and punch needed... djent and fart-metal aside) thanks.
what you really need is a 52 inch scale Osirian bass with some alloy 250's, that's a quarter inch thick low string. they use light instead of sound vibrations in the pickups and we make subwoofers in the 72 inch range for that negative C1 octave.
