      Nope. Asus VivoBook Pro 14 has the same 120Hz OLED + 4050 under $1K, and has way better build quality and keyboard compared to Acer.
      This is a rip-off.

    • @yensteel

      Their previous swift X 14 used to have a good value, with a discrete GPU in a tiny form factor. They had to sacrifice noise and thermals. Sadly, it seems these weren't addressed.
      Other manufacturers are entering this space, so they need to stay competitive. There's a couple of design tricks they could use to improve thermals as well. With such a large fan chassis, it could be used as a heatsink. Huawei did that. Mushy keyboards are also a big turn off.
      Really hoping the 7040 Ultrabooks come out soon, they could be a good alternative.

    2023 version looks so distinct compared to 2022 and 2021. It doesn't look as simple and clean as its predecessor from my perspective. I do like that 7-hour battery life tho. That's actually impressive given that the fan is always audible even at low load. I got the 2021 version, the fan is dead silent at low load but battery life lasts for about 6-hour.

      I have that 21 model as well (ryzen 5800u), I really want to upgrade because the screen on it is terrible. 60hz and terrible response time is such a bummer. This seems like a huge upgrade plus 16:10 aspect ratio for productivity.

    Thanks for the keyboard feedback and on how far back the display can go, but on the display part you mentioned that the Gigabyte Aero 14 is 60Hz only but it's not, it's actually 14.0" 90Hz 2.8K non-touch OLED. This Swift X 14 is 14.5" 120Hz 2.8K non-touch OLED, which is good to emphasize that way for those that want a touchscreen (don't think it was mentioned here) and are also looking for a compromise between 14.0" and 15.6". Cheers.

    A few weeks ago I bought the 2022 version of the acer swift x 14 with the I7-1260p, the 3050ti, 16gb of ram, and 1440p LCD display, on discount for about 1200 brand new. I wanted a productive Laptop that had dedicated graphics so I could game and do everything I needed to do on a desktop with relative ease in a thin and light chassis, overall I'm pretty happy with it, a few complaints but most are minor such as a lack of an SD card reader, Windows 11 bugs, and a bit of backlight bleed when the brightness is over half, but for what it is it was very much worth it. I would have appreciated even a 90hz display or an upgrade to an OLED at the price, but its better than 1080p, having said all this I've noticed a few things with the swift line, when a newer model is released its seems to be "2 steps forward, 1 step back", for this one that I have, it got the display upgrade in terms of aspect ration and resolution, and it now charges over USB-C, but then it doesn't have an option to spec with a Ryzen chip, and this one has a better Intel chip and a higher spec 4050 GPU but now the IO layout is worse, the display is better, but now it only has 1 SSD slot instead of 2 like on my model and the original Swift X. I'm not sure why Acer seems to come so close but then end up coming just short of the perfect mid range laptop, needless to say while I would like the OLED display and newer chipset, the IO placement and the singular SSD slot are pretty big deal-breakers.

  • @siddhantyadav450
    @siddhantyadav450 Год назад +6

    i think they messed it up by going with intel. I have the 2021 version with the Ryzen 5 5600U and it works like a charm. It is super silent untill I start a game or something. The performance is within 20% of this laptop even though its 2 years old (and the lower R5 variant). And the most imp point is that it cost just USD999. The only thing this laptop has gained is the display imo (and the black colour, mine only had 1 option- silver).

    • @sebastianjost
      @sebastianjost Год назад +3

      I think the single fan instead of two is even more problematic.
      Sure they have powerful hardware, but they can't cool it properly and are obnoxiously loud for below average performance.
      But AMD would have helped, too. I agree on that.
      It's cheap, but you also get what you pay for.

    • @siddhantyadav450
      @siddhantyadav450 Год назад

      @@sebastianjost No the thing is that Acer have chosen to not have loud fans on the AMD 2021 variant. It doesnt run very fast and get very loud even on turbo mode. But this results in hotter temps. I personally would rather take higher fan noice than high temps but it is what it is.
      Definitely, 2 fans on this device would've made a world's difference.

      Anybody with a bit of IT knowledge can easily turn a H processor into a P/U variant. Its just unlocking a windows registry key and gaining acces to the turbo boost and power management profile. You can much easily to reduce the power demands of a higher CPU, but there is a limit in making a lower cpu go higher. What your buying with a P or U class CPU, is nothing but the same CPU with a lower set power profile by default. And no, there is very little binning going on unlike what people tell you.

    Even when it’s not a high performance laptop the cooling system seems to be a problem. Maybe an amd processor would have been a better option.

    The Asus ZenBook 14 OLED is a little over half the list price of this laptop. Almost double for slightly better GPU and slightly better CPU? This laptop is DOA at this price

    And that is why Acer is the bottom of the totem pole, it is either bad decisions for design or cheap decisions.

    The major challenge with these laptops, and by "these laptops" I mean Acer and Asus is that the design and engineering teams seem to be misaligned, and the marketing team is just clueless about where to place this product. These laptops are notorious for throttling and screaming fans, as in: "Put on your headphones with ANC dummy". End users are no longer accepting this and this laptop will be discontinued very swiftly. The 120Hz OLED is what will grasp the attention of many people and they will think it has the 4050 but seeing it has a small power brick it can be expected that this GPU only draws 60W if not 45W. It just does not compute.

    These laptop manufacturers need to stop selling us cheap quality machines at a premium. I seriously hope Apple boosts the GPU performance of their machines so that it undercuts the market. The windows laptop space is getting way to uppity for what they are offering. And this is coming from someone who doesn't even like MacOS.

    • @benjiro8793
      @benjiro8793 Год назад

      Unfortunately, Apple has their own issues... Try connecting a 27" 1440p monitor to a MacBook and enjoy the blurry font, whereas a normal windows/linux laptop/desktop looks sharp. All thanks to Apple removing a feature a few generations ago from MacOS to sell more 4/5K monitors. Apple is great hardware, annoying lockdown practices, overpriced upgrades and frankly, an OS that feel more like 2010 Unix.

    • @jayrollo1352
      @jayrollo1352 Год назад

      @@benjiro8793 Yup. That's the biggest issue with Apple. And a scary one at that. They are spearheading the market and I literally was forced to buy a mac for the first time last week because nothing else would suit my needs. I just hate the idea of being trapped into their ecosystem, but sometimes you have no choice.
