  • “She doesn’t know what’s coming, but we do”
It’s just after midnight on July 9th, 2011 when a CCTV camera of the Leili home captures Niqué, completely unaware that this would become her last known footage before her disappearance. Niqué’s 19 year old daughter Alex is quickly suspicious of her step-dad Matthew, but her younger half-sisters, Amanda and Rebecca, firmly believe their dad is doing everything he can to help find their mom and reunite their family. Alex knows that the only way to save her family is to find out the truth about what happened to her mother that fateful night.

Like, it's strange how so many people don't get that being good is what makes you happy and peaceful in life. So many are just so lost, and it's a shame that their badness causes so much problems for others.

He asked the 14 year old to listen to recordings of sex, violence, violent sex, abuse of all kinds. He UNDERESTIMATED the forensic IT team that reassembled the WHOLE story. So, he gave her jaded filed to listen to that no normal father would have ever wanted his child to hear. But, it wasn't until several years away from him that as she was becoming a young woman, very much her Mama's daughter, she listened to the restored files, saw the deleted footage, and could place all the puzzle pieces together on her own.
But, I have a QUESTION!! Who is the THIRD daughter? There's the aunt, Alex who left in the nick of time, and Rebecca who he manipulated. Where's the 3rd daughter? Did I just miss it?

This case brought up a lot of red flags that i missed in my own relationship. When this happened, it actually helped me see the similarities.
The gaslighting. The recording. The attempts to turn family and make them think that you're crazy. And the fights. Pushing your buttons til you lose it and push back, then they record you screaming and yelling.
It can happen so gradually that you start to think maybe it is you, maybe you really are the cause for all the bad things happening in the relationship.
After i kicked out my ex, I was still paying for his bills and buying food. I'd cook him dinners. Thats when he started getting desperate and unpredictable. One time he had grabbed me by the throat and shoved me back towards the balcony, which was on the 10th floor. After that, i would text my sister or a friend every time i went in, and i tried never to go there. I also recorded, just in case. I ended up using the recordings and texts to get a no contact order. Havent seen him in 5 years and i still dread running into him someday.
Sorry for the long post. It just makes me queasy every time i hear this case. Anyone out there who may be in a similar situation, you know this isnt how love should be. You know this at the back of your mind, in your heart. You know in your gut that you deserve better. Please please listen to those instincts, it might save you.

That he may have murdered his wife, I can not bear witness. But, I can say in good faith that the allegations against him may be false. Yes, they may be true, but the evidence does not prove but only provides suspicion that he conspired to persecute his wife. The same may be true that another may have committed the act, and Nique may have been directly involved in her own demise. I agree that if he had committed the murder it would be terrible and the only judge of the truth would be God himself. As it is, there was nothing but suspicion and it is as likely that an innocent man may have been wrongly prosecuted. I do not declare him innocent, yet the law should have assumed it until it could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. There, indeed, is doubt.

When i first sought counsel for my prior relationship, i was in disbelief. The therapist told me i was on a dangerous fast track to winding up another victim. She described my ex's "patterns of control" and inability to regulate himself as a tell tale sign of what was to come. Yes i was extremely depressed, isolated from everyone and being highly controlled but the idea of him physically abusing, let alone murdering me seemed laughable.
Within maybe 3 years of being told this, the prophecy came true. He was mentally unwell and would have psychotic episodes and blackouts. He was arrested 3 times in 6 months for a variety of assaults, property damage and disorderly behaviour. It ended when he destroyed my entire apartment, nearly killed himself and thought he had murdered me. Thankfully I wasn't even home (he was that unwell) and he dragged an old door to garbage bins instead of me. He confessed to the police that he had "done something to his girlfriend" despite me standing there right next to them.

This video brought back so many horrible memories of how my stepdad used to beat on my mom. I remember many nights laying in bed and hearing their fights and always worrying about my mom. My stepdad had the worst attitude especially when drunk. One night making up they decided to go to the casinos and my stepdad ended up loosing a lot of money playing blackjack, my mom would only play video poker but of course for some reason he blamed my mom for all the money he lost. On the 2 hour drive back home they began to argue. He got so mad that he pulled over on the side of the interstate an hour away from home and yanked my mom out of the car then left her on the side of the road in the middle of a tropical storm. I remember waking up when he got home and when I realized she wasn’t with him I started crying because I thought he had done something really bad to her. When I woke up the next morning thankfully she was there. That same day we packed our things and left, my mom had had enough. I know that had she stayed with him it was only a matter of time before he did the unthinkable. My heart breaks for this family I can’t imagine the grief they had to endure after losing their mother only to find out their dad was the one responsible.

You're all so kind, thank you. Just being heard and believed, goes a long way. Thanks. May we all be loved and may our futures be brighter. I keep thinking. What's wrong with me that I would be sucked in by someone like that. I don't want it to happen again.

I don't think enough credit is given to these detectives and the tedious task of going through 60+ hours a week going through the surveillance and recordings. I heard of this case before and is just realizing that her murder was totally premeditated.

It’s so sad to blame the 2 young girls who were being completely manipulated by their father to believe lies about their mother. Children are very gullible, especially to someone who they love and trust. They didn’t even know how they were being controlled by him. He was doing this their whole lives. They had to be totally removed from him and shown the hard evidence, be able to think it through WITHOUT his influence and come to the conclusion on their own without anyone telling them what actually occurred. That was the ONLY way they could truly understand what their father was honestly like and what he did. Thank goodness they did.

What a sad and difficult story this was. So sad for the girls. What a manipulator. This was so extremely premeditated. I'm upset that wasnt mentioned but with how long it took to realize the level of crazy this guy was just Thankful for the digital forensic team to do the work they did. No mother abandons their children like that. RIP.

Malignant narcissists over and over use the same tactics to portray their victims as the problem. I grew up in such a dysfunctional family and then married a person who used similar tactics. I got away with my life but my ex won custody. In the end my daughter committed suicide to escape her mother.

My ex made me watch security for hours insisting I did something to his bicycle, and it turned out it was him. Just crazy. I feel so bad for Nique and for her family having to deal with this man for so long. I'm just sad she had to lose her life for him to be brought to justice. They had no proof to show he murdered her. They had to make sure and they finally did it. They even said it and showed how he almost got away with it. This had nothing to do with the police but actually showing it. It wasn't so easy.

Knowing that he was guilty and proving it are two different things. And in the US, they only have one shot to prove he’s guilty due to double jeopardy.

This is why ladies and/or gentlemen in this situation should never try to divorce the abuser, never tell them you are leaving; just do it. Just slip away, leave everything you worked for/paid for/etc because it's just stuff that can be replaced. Just quietly get yourself out of harm's way and to a safe place while you can.
