As someone with a mom who was unfortunately pretty similar in some regards even if my story was also quite different than this little boy's... as an adult I still would be pretty scared of a person this chaotically yelling in public. But I still would do what I could to protect a little boy especially with the support of other adult friends or family or kind strangers also on my side in the situation. One on one n it would be hard to know how far I'd go before I had police backup though. I might be too scared to choose a 1 on 1 confrontation with that lady.

@user-jk8sh2zm3l Yes it is an abuse, if it is an abuse when done to an adult, it is absolutely the same when it comes to children. I am sure you are not aware of the statistics, so here they are, children that are physically hit are incredibly more likely to:
      1) suffer learning disability
      2) in teen years develop substance addiction (due to lowering of neuro receptors)
      3) in teen years are more likely to develop aggression/depression
      4) have harder time concentrating, which considering that the child has ADHD, she is making the condition worse not better.
It is sad that our justice system allows such people to continue destroying child's futures.

I’ve told my school that the next time a bully goes unchecked around me or my friends I’M handling it MYSELF and guess what? They started doing something. Only two three years of getting on good terms with the principals and getting good grades before they decided to say ”we don’t want this kid to get in trouble, this is a good kid with potential” and actually start acting (and even taking my advice of harsher punishments like moving the bully to another class and after school detention instead of in school detention getting them out of class. He & his wife are so gentle & kind, people you'd trust with anything from fine china to plutonium. Just calm, pleasant, generous people. I spoke with him about how the child they've had for years now is doing - and this kid was a handful, always getting kicked out of school, etc. He's doing ok, but barely - and I heard my friend say for the first time ever & hopefully the last time, that given the opportunity, he would "mouse drag to select all the text, then hit backspace" the kid's bio-parents. Pardon my metaphor - but he wasn't speaking metaphorically. The more love these kids get, the vulnerability goes against what's now instinct. Love isn't enough.

I’m not saying he doesn’t have ADHD, but you can’t see it here. I don’t know any child who wouldn’t act like him dealing with that as a mother.
Even at the hospital, he needs someone to sit with him and chat and give him attention. He is clearly acting out because he’s been through it and wants someone to pay attention to him. I feel for him, and I bet if red dress woman who was with him at the gas station was there, she could manage him. When he was there with her kids he sat quietly with all the chaos going on. That mom's probably got an undiagnosed processing disability, too. I wonder if she'd make better choices if she was more aware of her own frustration. That quickness to anger could be bpd or a bpd like trait of asd.
I am aware of my quickness to anger and frustration that swells when things are not perfect. I take my autistic behind away from a situation to calm down and walk or smoke it off. She could probably get use from walking that anger off. Getting the blood flowing helps unblock that mind.
She could be npd, though. If the dad passed the disability genetically, he might have been manipulated and easily controlled by a npd partner. That gaslighting she attempts is familiar to red flags I've dated.

They will leave a kid in a home sleeping on a floor with no pillow only having a bowl of cheerios for food and if the kid isnt covered in injuries or starving to death theyll leave the kid in the home. Maybe if this crazy abusive psycho of a woman had an abortion, a child would have been spared horrific abuse. Poor little Brenden’s soul could have been born into a different body, with different parents, with different circumstances, and could have had a beautiful life.

Not really. It's pretty common. Strangers help kids pretty reliably. If it's two adults fighting, most strangers won't get involved because they don't know what is going on, but if a parent is abusing their kid in public like this, most people will do what they can to help the kid. You'll notice it wasn't 1 person stepping up, it was most of the people in the store. And then they called other strangers (the police) to come help as well.

He had abused me once before I got them involved, and to no surprise he did it once after. Now, he is trying to be able to have full access to my 2 younger sisters (via divorce from my mom, through shared custody) and because he filed, I can't testify against him. Safe to say, they suck.

Usually it's not DHS making that decision it's the courts. DHS can't remove without enough cause. I used to work for DHS and the judge would have our head on a platter if we removed a child and they didn't deem it worthy enough. Often we would beg to not let a child return home without a safety plan in place but the judge would just ignore us and send the child home. Of course we would end up getting another call about them being abused again and have to retraumatize the child with another removal. People don't see the behind the scenes of DHS. It's the judge and court system who ultimately decides what children get removed or not and decides if they return home and when.

Couple years ago I had to speak with my states DHS about a report I made and was told that their goal is never to take the kids and if there is any type of Plan B , they don’t remove the kid. DHS should not say it doesn't meet the criteria for removal without seeing the video and knowing that mom is spending the night in jail. In NJ, it would NOT be ok to just send the kid home with the neighbor. Background checks would have to be done on every adult in her home. The home would have to be physically in person checked by a social worker to make sure itis safe, meets license-able standards, that there is a safe bedroom for the child to sleep in with his own bed, the neighbor would have to agree to go through foster parent training and licensure. It looks like DHS here is trying not to take the responsibility. They don't want it to be their official placement. They want it to be the mother making arrangements for her own child.

I can speak on Iowa's DHS office from personal experience.
I was a ward of the state, thrown away into their custody when I was 9. My first worker was utterly useless AF, and would drink coffee with my abuser while ignoring me completely. Family court was equally useless, as they took recommendations from DHS as gospel, even when workers were lying, corrupt, or working from a personal bias with nothing resembling evidence of wrongdoing. I was placed back in that abusive house repeatedly when I wasn't being shuttled off to other facilities to be warehoused or "fixed" by so-called child psychology experts. I was pumped full of prescription drugs like some experimental rat for nine years, which wreaked merry havoc with my brain chemistry and physical health.
      Fast forward to today.
DHS office is still utterly useless. My local office refuses to answer their phones, the state office has their phone system set up to reject anybody dumb enough to try calling them, and getting information from some of the horrible people working at these offices is like pulling crocodile teeth with a pair of marshmallows. I personally witnessed a guy who was begging for help from a front desk worker, telling her how he had filed all his paperwork on time yet was still removed from his prescription assistance. He informed the worker without his medication he would die, and he even had paperwork proving that claim, yet all the worker said was, "That's not my problem."
That poor boy Brenden has no chance.

He does seem to be a very difficult child, but look how much patience and kindness Donesha showed him. None of the ways that psycho ‘mother’ dealt with his behavior was going to work. I have a child with ADHD and ODD and it pissed me off to no end to watch that pos use his ADHD as an excuse to abuse him and I can guarantee you that none of those methods she tried (yelling and cussing at him from across the store and then threatening him with the police… no wonder he didn’t wanna go with them) were taught to her by any professional. She has no idea how to manage any of his behaviors… or she’s just too lazy to bother trying to do things properly.

He was pulling one by the air and beating the other one who was laying on the flood. They we're probably around 5 ou 6 years old. All the staff came to the rescue but he managed to get out with his daughters quicker. They followed him while calling the cops, giving them his licence plate. I really hope they found him, because if he was capable of that in a public place, it was 100% worse at home.

My youngest is 8 and also has meltdowns and is super tall so me picking her up doesn't work so I just talk her to a safe place to have her feelings. but it only works because I'm her safe space and she trusts me enough to do that. Is it fun letting her meltdown while people stare at her in a way that breaks my heart? No. But why would I punish her for their biases?
I'm sorry you went through that. I was a 80s/90s kid so spanking was a big part of my life with emotional dysregulation/issues and I have loving parents that I'm grateful for but those memories are still valid and hard for me.

A woman doesn't have to have "motherly instincts" in order to be a decent person. I don't hear people saying that the guy has "fatherly instincts". Maybe they're both just nice, normal people. She also doesn’t seem to understand his disabilities aren’t a free pass to abuse him. I kind of got annoyed how hard they harped on him being a difficult child at first bc the clips of him in the store and waiting outside with the other families he seemed like a little boy who wants his mom to play/pay attention to him (by having her chase him around) and craves socialization (by the way he immediately clung to the other people by physically holding onto some of them especially the woman in red and how he just wanted to play and be a kid outside when he literally just got beat). It was clear he has some diagnosis which would be tough for a competent parent to handle, but his mom also seemed to have some issues so she is already less equipped then most. I’m glad she has workers but all that shows is that they’ve had issues in the past and are in the system now. So I’m on the fence on what’s best for the boy in this one. It’s clear he loves his mom and doesn’t understand the severity of the situation at all but do you educate and monitor them for awhile and they reunite or do you just lock her up and put him in a foster home? There’s pros and cons on both sides and I really would hate to be the person making such a hard choice. I just hope whatever the outcome they’re both doing well. That is no way to live as a parent and no way to be treated as a child. She won’t ever take accountability if she doesn’t admit what she did wrong.
