  • If you ever have gone to a Colombian restaurant and tried that Colombian Empanada and wondered, How to make it yourself, well, in this video, I will show you how to make them, so you can have as many empanadas as you like at home.

    INGREDIENTS:
    - 1 boneless chicken breast
    - 2 or 3 tomatoes
    - 1 pepper
    - Minced garlic
    - Minced cilantro
    - 1 onion
    - 2 potatoes
    - Green onions
    - Cilantro
    - P.A.N. pre-cooked white corn meal
    - 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
    - 1 tablespoon of annatto powder
    - 2 teaspoons of salt
    - 1.5 teaspoon of pepper
    - A pinch of cummin
    - 2 teaspoons of chicken bullion
    - 3 bay leaves

    To flatten them, I took a medium size Ziploc baggie, cut the seal top off, and opened up the two sides, leaving the bottom intact. Open it up flat, place the dough ball in the centre, then flip the other side over top. Then I use my rolling pin to roll them out. The baggie is easy to wash and keep in the drawer for next time.

    My parents are from Cali Colombia and they've never made us chicken empanadas. Truthfully, I didn't even know that us Colombians make them with chicken also, lol.
    My mom and grandmother made strictly beef empanadas, and not that ground beef stuff. Colombian beef empanadas with little chunks of beef and potatoes. They're delicious!!! I learned to make them from my grandmother and my mom. Gotta keep tradition alive.

      @@thegiftingguide5332 It's long and not very detailed with measurements, but here you go. I hope it helps
      Ingredients:
      -Top Sirloin Steak
      -Russet Potatoes (or yellow potatoes)
      -Corn Flour (P.A.N. Venezuelan yellow pack with lady’s face on it)
      -Sazon Goya 'A Unique Seasoning' (Orange packet that says 'Con Culantro Y Achiote-Coriander & Annatto')
      -Triguisar (Colombian seasoning) (Can be substituted with Beef Bouillon)
      -Vegetable Oil
      -Salt
      Making Empanada Filling:
      • Place steak in a pot or pressure cooker with water just enough water to cover the steak by 1-inch and add salt
      • Place on medium-high heat and boil steak until fully cooked
      • After fully cooked remove steak and chop into small squares about 1/4-inch squares(keep stock water for cooking the potatoes)
      • Peel potatoes and cut into small square pieces as well about 1/2-inch squares
      • Place potatoes to cook in the remaining stock water the steak was boiled in
      • Add steak pieces to the potatoes and mix
      • Add seasoning for flavor (Goya and Triguisar)
      • Let cook until steak is falling apart and mixture is a stew like texture
      • The filling is done once it is a stew like texture. Take pot off heat, cover and let sit.
      Making Empanada Shell:
      • In a pot or big open container, add about a 1/2-cup of warm water and add salt
      • Add corn flour to the mixture until it thickens
      • Add a little bit of the Goya seasoning for flavoring and color
      • Keep folding empanada dough mixture and adding flour and or water until the dough is nice and firm
      • Roll into a large ball and place aside
      Making Empanadas:
      • Place a large sheet of plastic food wrap on the table or cutting board
      • Add and spread oil on the plastic food wrap so dough will not stick to the plastic
      • Roll empanada dough into small balls, slightly larger then a ping pong ball
      • Place the dough on the plastic food wrap and flatten until about 1/4-inch thick
      • Add about a spoon full of filling to the middle of the flattened dough, fold and seal using the saran wrap to make your empanada
      • Fry empanada in oil until golden brown
      DONE!!! 💪😎

Soy colombo-venezola criada en Venezuela, y sabes en Venezuela no se le coloca papas, así que me parece algo bello y exótico esta forma de hacerla con papas porque a pesar de que mis padres nacieron en Colombia nunca las he probado, pero lo haré gracias mil por tu receta, is so amazin and yuumi.       Using the bowl to cut the empanadas is tried and true. My mom taught me this trick too, but I like how my grandma would make the empanadas without cutting the edges.
      My grandmother would just closed the empanadas and seal them without cutting the edges. If there was any left over dough at the edges you just fry them like that, so you have these tasty fried crispy/crunchy edges, that in my opinion elevate the texture of empanada dough when fried, hence making the empanadas even better.

    Wow this is a fantastic recipe, best I have seen. I am from the Uk and find it difficult to find some Colombian ingredients. Can you send recipe for the green sauce please, my main problem is I want to make badeja paisa and watched a few videos, do you plan to make a video and on how to make Colombian sausage as can’t get them in UK,

    I've started to prepare the chicken stuffing for tomorrow when I will mix the masa.
    But I'm wondering for another batch: is it possible to prepare the entire empanadas then refrigerate or freeze for frying at a later time / on another day?
    I'd like to prepare a mass amount to sell as street food. Or to have street vendors / cafe cooks pop frozen, unfried empanadas into hot oil on demand.
    I'm in South America where empanadas are not available so this kind of food will be a hit, and there is no competition.
    My ex is Colombian and he introduced me to all sorts of Colombian food. Empanadas is on my favorite snack foods.
    We don't have fresh cilantro available here so I'll have to grow it. There is simply no substitute for the deliciously unique flavor of fresh cilantro, which I really, really miss!

    AND...
    Have you prepared these cornmeal empanadas with vegetarian substitutes like mashed pinto beans similar to Mexican bean burrito filling? Or any other non- meat, non poultry filling?
    Also, will you PLEASE do over an English version for your video on stuffed green plantains (EMPANADAS DE PLATANO VERDE Rellenas de pechuga de pollo y queso) hosted on your other channel???
    Any suggestions you can provide on suitable vegetarian fillings will be very helpful.

    Cornmeal, like wheat and potatoes, is imported and everything is a bit costly but at least 1 bag of cornmeal can go a long no way and can be used to create a snack that is not sold by anyone, anywhere!
    This video was very helpful. You presentation is pleasant, unruahed but not too slow; you don't chat of topic or too much so that the video becomes longer than necessary or tiresme to watch; and you are decently organized.

    Having an allergy to wheat but a love for empenadas, hand pies, pot stickers, and all things similar. This white corn flour will work. Will cutting in butter make the crust flakey?

    Add thinly grated yuca to the dough. That will keep the empanada from absorbing too much oil.

      Yes but make sure you close the empanada really well. Mozzarella is the best cheest
