I was repairing my sentry, and the worst thing that could have happened at that moment decided to happen. A soldier, with direct hit, shot a crocket right at me. I was out of metal, my sentry was busy supressing a heavy and medic combo, and it was only at 20ish health. I was scared, and out of nowhere, the f2p jumps into the crocket, dying, and saving my sentry. I was about to celebrate as the heavy and medic had been killed by my undisturbed sentry, but I heard a cloak right behind me, and at that moment my mouse decided to be a cunt. I heard a beep, coming from behind me, and the spy's body flew over me. It was the f2p engie's sentry. He placed it behind me and ran infront to protect my sentry. He did 500 hours worth of skill, and he thanked my five minutes of teaching. We won the game. I have no idea where that player is now. But damn I will never forget him.

I always wondered what “Pick” classes were. Then I realized. Pick classes like Scout, Sniper or Spy specialize in single target elimination. They aren’t suited to deal with large groups of enemies, but excel in duels. Power classes like Demoman, Soldier, and Heavy are front-line classes. They are meant to take lots of hits, or deal insane damage. They are much better suited for dealing with large groups then Pick classes. But can easily be overwhelmed if alone. Support classes like Engineer and Medic are self explanatory. They support the Pick and Power classes with healing, ammo, or teleports to the frontlines. They aren’t meant to be in combat, and are better suited to SUPPORTING their team.
Here’s some more details: -Pick classes are like assassins. They kill lone and distracted targets very effectively and can deal inmense burst damage, especially when flanking -Power classes are centered around feeling like a bossfight. They deal lots of damage and can tank a lot of hits, but that’s about it -Support classes often help Power classes a lot more, sometimes being able to turn a bossfight into pure unbridled amounts of destruction. Or they’re hoovies
@@themonkeyman2910yeah, Pyros have stuff like spychecking, Area denial, reflecting damage, pushing enemies into the line of fire, knocking enemies back, disrupting enemy Demoknights, Rocket jumping Soldiers and Sticky jumping Demos, and defending the Engineer’s nest
1:57 - As a spy main, this, but with spies. I love playing spy and I can do the best for the team when I do, but I realize the importance of switching to medic, engine, or soldier / heavy when the team calls for it. Too many new players see these awesome trickstabs on RUclips and want to be Double-o-Seven until they realize most people aren’t totally blind. And when you have 6 new spies on the server... it just gets annoying...
Every time when there’s a class that no one picked on my team, especially supportive/power classes, I switch to them as soon as possible. This strategy might not always work, but definitely massively increased my winning rate.
When first time playing tf2, I decided to think “I should have no main, knowing I would play it no matter what. So all classes our my main.” And now I can play all classes very well and support my team in any way! Btw great video, really taught my a lot with engineer cooperation
4:16 I think this is such an underrated statement. One class being your favourite doesn’t automatically mean you get to play them, and definitely does not give you the right to berate your team for a lack of certain classes.
If there are too many engies, for the love of God go pybro. You'll not only be able to support your team with airblasts (You can click RMB to save people from burning to death) but also cover your sentries from spies and if you're good at airblasting, rockets too.
Not only can pyro do all of those useful things, but they can also equip melee weapons that allow the destruction of sappers, so they can also help remove the sappers after they've torched the spy. Really helpful, especially if a spy played risky and killed the engineer before sapping everything.
When I started TF2, I wanted to play Demoman, Pyro, or Soldier. But eventually I started noticed that, you know, I needed to be the one who can see past their own nose and understand the importance of a balanced team in Team Fortress Two. So I started playing whatever the team really needed, but no one was doing. Needless to say, Medic is my most played class.
I find it more fun to come up with strategies to defend my nest plants vs. zombies style, rather than shooting explosive ornaments to people's feet for 2 hours straight. so I agree with this statement
5 years later, the intro still makes me smile and tear up a little :). Thank you, Uncle Dane, for all you do for engineers and the tf2 community in general.

+K MT It's very rare, but there can actually be too many medics. More than 2 is unnecessary. Otherwise, you've got a bunch of healers with hardly anyone to heal. :
You're not telling me anything new. Getting ditched in a firefight, getting health kits stolen from you by the people you're healing and ungrateful pricks yelling at you to pocket them comes with being a pub Medic. But still, someone has to keep the team alive and honestly it's rewarding to find that one power class who watches your back so the both of you can run through the enemy team.
I have died in so many different servers with several nearby engies or teammates with sapping remover weapons and PLEADED with someone to save my sapped or low health sentry and watched from the respawn loading as it DIED. It's one of the most aggravating things to have happen. If you can save a fellow engineer's sentry, SAVE IT
@@samueljackson3512 he said in a video about engi's balance that removing coop engineering would be more balanced and help prevent turtling/stale play (and it does not contradict this video, atm coop engie is a thing so it's normal to "teach" it. I remember when me and 4 other engies turned the entire last objective room into an engie nest. There were sentries and dispensers every where. The enemies couldn't even get close.
Glad I found this channel. While I consider myself pretty good at the game, Engi is a class I always considered myself to be shit at and I was afraid of it being boring because I thought turtleing was the correct way to play him. Now I am starting to realize that engineer is awesome and especially fun to play even on offense. You get to help your team keep up the pressure with teleporters, prevent enemies from regaining ground with sentries that are at the same time not as aggressively attacked as they would be on defense and you get to take pressure off your medics with the dispenser.
When I get TF2, I'll be a F2P player, but I'll play like I'm a P2P player. I'm not a noob. Give me a week to learn and get used to the controls, and I may be the best engineer on the noobs' team. I mean, that's the way I am. It's like I'm pre-programmed with the ability to learn quickly.
I'd say that if your inside another Engi's nest you shouldn't necessarily be building anything except, maybe, a dispenser. And if you building a dispenser in between pushes, sharing metal I think would be a net positive before the next push.
4:22 and here you have what I do. I literally have no main. 1500 hrs in and I haven't picked one. I just go for whatever the team needs, when they need it. I'm decent at rocket jumping decent at trimping, decent at quickscoping, decent at building positioning and placement, decent at trickstabbing and disguise/cloak management, decent at heavy and decent at positioning in fights as medic. So basically, I'm a generalist. Jack of all trades, master of none.
People might not care or think it's real but one day (yesterday) on a valve server. My whole defending team went gunslinger engineer and we were able to defend the past point for 10 min. I'm trying to upload the whole last 5 min.
+druckqqq considering it was the shitstorm of a map known as powerhouse, I'm honestly not surprised you and your team were able to achieve maximum cancer.
I was once in a Koth match where my team was being held down by the other team which was NOTHING but Snipers. Instant death for everyone who stepped outside. I still don't know how that happened.
I play TF2 a lot and from experience playing spy I can say the hardest engi nests to take out have players helping are behind the main lines and have players and engineers keeping an eye on the sentry and if the sentry are spaced and the sentries are paid attention to by other classes my heart drops when I see a sentry nest like this because I know it will be a pain destroying it
Valve needs to make this a compulsory video for engines to watch once the decide to play the class I swear to god there's nothing more annoying then the things on this list.
I haven't even played TF2 in ages, and even when I will I most won't be playing Engineer, but still I love coming back to these videos for some reason. They're just really nice to watch.
Dane, can you make a video of engineering 101 that helps people deal with spies? I've seen too many engies (even good ones) constantly hitting their buildings over and over instead of killing the spy.
idk if anyone will even see this, but five years after this video, and quite likely far far later in time, this hold's up great. dont skip over it just because it's not from *CURRENT YEAR*. yes, there are things missing. but that's what the other video's dane has made are for. go watch those aswell!
I know Its stupid and all but I played a Game of frontier payload, and our team (red) had 8 (yes eight) sentries next to eachother. We also had one pyro who spy checked and airblasted Ubers. Blu didnt have a chance to do anything
6:50 I had another Engineer do that but with Dispensers. Was playing MVM on Mannhattan, placed my Dispenser behind that large gray barrel on first point, and the other Engineer placed theirs right next to it. Rescue Ranger'd mine away and placed it elsewhere because I knew it just took one or two explosives from a robot Demo or Soldier to reduce both Dispensers to scrap metal.
When your building a sentry but a f2p engie walks up and builds a sentry next to you me:well i mean this is their first time playing so i will let him be also me:spams this vid link in the chat
I'll never forget when someone asked on voice chat while we where setting up defenses "is it gay to upgrade another engi's teleporter?" and someone responds "well, if you like it then ya"
When ever I hear about cooperative engineering all I can think about is one of my first times playing the class and getting into the game at this point I dint know about the ups and downs of level 2 vs 3 so I always just tried to get it to level 3 so I placed a sentry and went to go get more metal from. Spawn when I was stoped by the collective force of about 4 or 5 engines all with different wrenches and hats rushing past me to my sentry there were soo many I actually could not see my sentry about 2 or 3 second later they all scattered and just standing there was a level 3 sentry I laughed soo hard at the site I mean that was like I was redeploying a level 3 but so how faster I just stood and stared at the cluster of engies huddling around my level one by the way it wasn’t built yet that parts unimportant but I still think it’s interesting to think they deployed it built it leveled it up to 3 all within the span of 2 seconds!
that might be funny af all of them screaming together like those Finding Nemo seagulls "MINE MINE MINE" around the sentry, and then they go away in an undefined mass build a nest
I’m 2 years late to this joke but I have to You have heard of Pyrosharks, you might have heard of Scout Piranhas, but have you heard of ENGINEER SEAGULLS

What should I do if my friendly engineer is a gibusvision who won't stop putting his sentry next to mine? Example: I build my sentry. He puts it next to mine, so I move mine. He then proceeds to pick his up, and follow me to where I move my sentry to. What do I do if this happens? Should I keep moving hoping he'll get the hint after the 20th time? Or should I just give up and let the sentries be next to each other? Should I switch to something else, crippling the defense by leaving the entirety of it in the hands of a gibusvision engineer who can't even protect his own sentry? I mean it's not like anyone else is gonna do it, considering everyone else (except gibgineer) is on offense, and we're ALREADY losing. (This hypothetical example slowly turned into a not-so-hypothetical real example. This actually happened, and he just would not get the hint.) As a bit of an extension, what do I do if he doesn't read chat, I don't have voice communication to hint him with, and he ignores your "I want YOU to build your sentry someplace else (not next to mine)" poster spray that I keep putting next to our sentries and in front of him hoping he'll get the hint, but he just never does?
but uncle daannneee what if i'm the bigger engineer and i move my sentry, but all the baby engies follow me and place their sentry right next to mine again
+Miss Angie if the baby engies move with you, you must've accidentally tricked them into thinking you're their mother/father/parent. Best thing to do: raise them like your own, make them big, stronk engi mains like our Uncle [Dane].
The worst thing is when they put a sentry right in front of yours! Like seriously I fucking HATE that, if I have a sentry on a crate in turbine (stfu it's not spawn camping), don't put one slightly in front of it, so mine can't shoot anything! Put it on the other fucking crate! If you are, at least fix my sentry when it gets damaged and I'm not there for real.
Hey Dane, I wanted to thank you for these great tips. I just started my engi career(6 hours) and it was hard to win games but now I have won the past three games in a row. Thanks, Dane!
2:50 I'm on the list :0 I actually remember playing that game and I saw that he joined but I wasn't sure it was him. Now I know he joined the server :D
Ya'know, not placing sentries next to eachother is something ive known for a long time, and accordingly I do move my sentry when someone decides to build next to me, but recently, and quite commonly too, ive had the engi who built their sentry next to mine then decide to move theirs when I move mine to that it is always next to mine... why they do it, I do not know, but it has cost me many a match when I'm defending in payload...
Sanguine Regis it's was pretty obvious for me too. If I was a war commander, I wouldn't have all my troops huddled guarding one area, I would have them in lots of different places.
I think a good analogy for grouping buildings together is that it's like 2 medics healing the same heal target; Yeah, they're *less* likely to die, kinda, but you also handicap eachother even more than you are more effective together, spreading your heals amongst your team is very much more effective.
There was this one f2p who kept placing his sentry next to mine, and after the fourth time, I was like, "Right, I'll teach him for about five minutes.". Glad you're back!
+Uncle Dane Hello Uncle Dane! I have my own RUclips channel and play TF2 a lot. You should add me so we can make a video!
Here’s some more details:
-Pick classes are like assassins. They kill lone and distracted targets very effectively and can deal inmense burst damage, especially when flanking
-Power classes are centered around feeling like a bossfight. They deal lots of damage and can tank a lot of hits, but that’s about it
-Support classes often help Power classes a lot more, sometimes being able to turn a bossfight into pure unbridled amounts of destruction. Or they’re hoovies
How about Pyro?
@@ElizahMendoza I think he’s a kind of Hybrid between Power and Support.
@@ElizahMendoza power, he's the crazy pyromaniac boss that has the worst ai on normal but becomes nearly unbeatable in hard mode
Ah yes, I, too, love to play as *engine.*
@@TotallyTally that moment when instead of shots you hear a Maserati coming at you at Mach 4 speed

"Engine" 💀
Every time when there’s a class that no one picked on my team, especially supportive/power classes, I switch to them as soon as possible. This strategy might not always work, but definitely massively increased my winning rate.
When first time playing tf2, I decided to think “I should have no main, knowing I would play it no matter what. So all classes our my main.” And now I can play all classes very well and support my team in any way!
Btw great video, really taught my a lot with engineer cooperation
This is also what in my mind wgen i first play tf2, but anyway im an engie main now
_*DO YOU WANNA BUILD A SENTRY?! *_
Spy: _No._
*_BZZZZZT_*
*_Okay bye._*
Touevskii Kinda what a "Pybro" is but thanks lol
When I started TF2, I wanted to play Demoman, Pyro, or Soldier.
But eventually I started noticed that, you know, I needed to be the one who can see past their own nose and understand the importance of a balanced team in Team Fortress Two.
So I started playing whatever the team really needed, but no one was doing.
Needless to say, Medic is my most played class.
Mine is either engineer and medic , including demoman
Tf2: the only game where playing support classes is more fun than playing dps classes.
(Arguably)
Except almost nobody enjoys playing Medic or Engineer, and everyone just literally goes Sniper or Spy for the entire game

+Lonk I tried to protect the gibus engineers but failed and lost.

Yes
Derp Daniel Hm, how do you win a game with 9 red engineers as BLU
1 demoman!
But Uncle Daaaaane.......two sentries mean two times the damage ( shhh-shhh f2p player who watched 30 seconds of the video)

This needs to be required viewing before playing the game.
People might not care or think it's real but one day (yesterday) on a valve server. My whole defending team went gunslinger engineer and we were able to defend the past point for 10 min. I'm trying to upload the whole last 5 min.
That's amazing.
I would have blacklisted that server.
+druckqqq considering it was the shitstorm of a map known as powerhouse, I'm honestly not surprised you and your team were able to achieve maximum cancer.
My team did that before. The other team didn't even cap the first point.
I was once in a Koth match where my team was being held down by the other team which was NOTHING but Snipers. Instant death for everyone who stepped outside.
I still don't know how that happened.
I play TF2 a lot and from experience playing spy I can say the hardest engi nests to take out have players helping are behind the main lines and have players and engineers keeping an eye on the sentry and if the sentry are spaced and the sentries are paid attention to by other classes my heart drops when I see a sentry nest like this because I know it will be a pain destroying it
7:41 this is my favorite part of this video
When you realise he is using frozen music 😂
😂😂WHO DID THIS😂😂

Do you wanna build a sentry?..

Valve needs to make this a compulsory video for engines to watch once the decide to play the class I swear to god there's nothing more annoying then the things on this list.
Not building their own dispenser drives me nuts, and I'm happy to help them build it, just don't drain mine.
I follow this guide by heart, since I first watched it.
I haven't even played TF2 in ages, and even when I will I most won't be playing Engineer, but still I love coming back to these videos for some reason. They're just really nice to watch.

I had another Engineer do that but with Dispensers.

"Do you wanna build a sentry? Come on let's go defend!"
When ever I hear about cooperative engineering all I can think about is one of my first times playing the class and getting into the game at this point I dint know about the ups and downs of level 2 vs 3 so I always just tried to get it to level 3 so I placed a sentry and went to go get more metal from. Spawn when I was stoped by the collective force of about 4 or 5 engines all with different wrenches and hats rushing past me to my sentry there were soo many I actually could not see my sentry about 2 or 3 second later they all scattered and just standing there was a level 3 sentry I laughed soo hard at the site I mean that was like I was redeploying a level 3 but so how faster I just stood and stared at the cluster of engies huddling around my level one by the way it wasn’t built yet that parts unimportant but I still think it’s interesting to think they deployed it built it leveled it up to 3 all within the span of 2 seconds!
that might be funny af
all of them screaming together like those Finding Nemo seagulls "MINE MINE MINE" around the sentry, and then they go away in an undefined mass build a nest

What should I do if my friendly engineer is a gibusvision who won't stop putting his sentry next to mine? Example:
I build my sentry. This actually happened, and he just would not get the hint.)
As a bit of an extension, what do I do if he doesn't read chat, I don't have voice communication to hint him with, and he ignores your "I want YOU to build your sentry someplace else (not next to mine)" poster spray that I keep putting next to our sentries and in front of him hoping he'll get the hint, but he just never does?
Graysongdl kick him
Well that doesn't always work because you need the approval of people who were never even involved with the problem in the first place.
Tell him to quit being a noob and put his sentry someplace else where it can't get both of them blown up
"As a bit of an extension, what do I do if he doesn't read chat, I don't have voice communication to hint him with..."
Graysongdl Put it in a very obvious spot and watch them both be murdered.
He'll likely stop then
but uncle daannneee what if i'm the bigger engineer and i move my sentry, but all the baby engies follow me and place their sentry right next to mine again

+clubjustin3 Unlikely someone would go through that much to mimic someone else.
+clubjustin3 Are there even that many dangers of the unusual effect?
"Just because it's your favorite class doesn't give you the automatic right to play it all the time."
Overwatch needs this as their motto.
Because they think that if you move your sentry you know a very good spot so they follow you, that's why I only play comp, no braindead f2ps there
They can't build next to your sentry if you don't have one.*taps temple*
Sanguine Regis it's was pretty obvious for me too. If I was a war commander, I wouldn't have all my troops huddled guarding one area, I would have them in lots of different places.
I think a good analogy for grouping buildings together is that it's like 2 medics healing the same heal target;
Yeah, they're *less* likely to die, kinda, but you also handicap eachother even more than you are more effective together, spreading your heals amongst your team is very much more effective.
