You know, it really do be like that sometimes.
And they are all on last
Love how there are callouts like Main, Cliff, and Tunnel, while there are callouts like Shithouse, and Pub Spot.
"If you have the highground you will almost always win." You underestimate my uber...
and then you realise you can't reach a sentry on a balcony with uber from the entrance. and then you die
true
a quickfix medic and a soldier could reach it,techicaly but only problem is.. sentry knock back..
good to know
Looks like nobody got the joke.
Let me know what map you want me to talk about next. I'd like to do a King Of The Hill one next. Thanks for watching, if you did. :)
Uncle Dane harvest!! or maybe viaduct
+Uncle Dane I'm totally down for Badwater, favorite payload map right there.
Uncle Dane I'd love if you could talk about Double Cross. I play alot on this map, and I can't see any good place for my sentry...
Uncle Dane Awesome job on this guide! I love all the thoughtful thinking you put to your engineer play and how you're contributing to the community this way. I think a Harvest video for KOTH guide would be great!
Well if you can talk about frontier please

Quick note- if enemy has dx8 small bushes don't exist on upward.
since most people dont know/dont use or want skins and sheens, it wouldnt matter
actually, many comp players run it for max fps and a cleaner look (simpler visual effects). So where this map guide would be most useful would be comp highlander where many run dx8.
END films I had to change of dx8 for my hud crosshair to work ;-;
@@ENDfilms44 bold of you to assume that comp players know any other gamemode than 5cp
@@leonardo9259 lmao imagine 5cp highlander where 5 classes are near useless all the time
17:37 WTF!! I've been playing on upward for 4 years and I DID NOT know that xD
I'm ashamed to say that I've been playing on Upward for 4-5 years and also did not know about that drop until watching this video. :(
I got an idea for a new construction PDA.
Disposable PDA:
Replaces the dispenser and teleporters with a mini-spenser and speed boosting pad.
The Mini-Spenser:
1 second build time.
50 metal cost.
Can build 2.
5 health/second.
Infinite ammo and metal.
10% ammo regenerated per second.
75 health per Mini-Spenser.
Speed Boosting Pad:
1.5 X walking speed for 1 - 3 - 5 seconds depending on level.
160 metal build cost.
Only 100 metal to upgrade.
50 with Eureka Effect.
(eureka effect increases walkspeed when 'teleporting' to exit)
There is a mini-Spenser currently on the workshop so maybe this idea could get into the game if valve decides to actually update this game
You didn't come up with that, you're just copying the scrapped engineer PDA concept.
Just wow. The amount of effort that must have gone into making this video is amazing, and the quality is great.
Very good work Dane!
"its pretty common for newer players to ignore this drop down..." bro i didn't know about that until I had played well over 1000 hours
This video makes me really happy. I don't even play TF2, but I absolutely love the teamwork, the lateral thinking, the problem solving of it all. Watching competitive TF2 players put a different slant on a traditionally casual game, and the thought that goes into such traditionally linear things as building placement and rollouts... Just...
Please Dane, May I have some more?
Im an engi main myself, it was nice hearing your tactics, you made some really good points, and that sentry spot outside the end of the cave positioned to the right is a good spot i never thought about.
Awesome work. I see the dedication and details you put in this. I carefully watched every single second of it, during multiple stacked sessions. Didn't bother seeing a new Ad at every session lol. You deserve it.
3:23 Wait wait wait... y'can actually build in that li'l hole there? Huh... the more y'know.
When the first point is capped, when it’s safe, I like to take my tele-entrance to the last point spawn so it doesn’t get destroyed when they cap the second point.
One of my personal favorite spots is under the spawn stairs if they are about to cap the second point. This forces them to destroy the sentrygun from a terrible angle or to try to ignore it. I also have my teleporter and dispenser there as well for metal and to get back there quickly with my team if I get killed..
please put these in a playlist when you´ve made more vids like this
he already has

Sir Uncle Dane, you have gained another subscriber. This video will greatly help this F2P to not suck as bad at this map.
Thank you for making a through video on this map.
Guys, a real good spot is near the "Cap Point". Try placing it on the turn, in a way that it get's people on the Rocks, and is protected on it's left vy the Cubby! It's a GREAT spot.
Uncle Dane
I want to say thanks. Thanks for the amount of time and effort you put into your videos. Please keep up the great work.
this video is great, not only because it's good advice for engies, but it's useful for pybros too.
When I'm on defend and I've got another Engi on the team, I like setting up a sentry in the walkway inside the tunnel. Then I put the tele exit next to the health and ammo packs and I'll also put the dispenser there. It works well, but only if the payload is either right outside or starting to enter the tunnel.
On last, if there's an Engi with a sentry already on the balcony to the cart's left, I put mine directly under it behind the guardrail. The dispenser goes in front of the sentry and far enough where I can gain metal while being next to or behind that sentry. I reason that if BLU's got uber at that point then nothing can (probably) stop them from pushing tge cart all the way to the bomb hole.
I just watched Dane tell us where to put buildings in a video game and this taught me more than school.
On the second point i like to put my sentry up near the giant B next to the stairs that lead to the small health and amo packs. It covers the point and tunnel exit. You can wrangle the hill and flank pretty easily. Its up high and far from peaking points so its hard to take out if the engie is attentive. Its also hard to uber push because of the distance from the peaking points so if you got the ranger, you can time the pickup and place it in the passive area while they are running for it. By the time the get near the passive area, your sentry is up and theyre outta uber.

A pretty good counter I have for dealing with minis is the Huntsman. If you are collected and hang back from the heat of battle, you notice the sentries and minis real easily and can take them out in a few easy shots.
If you are in a coordinated team holding apartments and have a pybro with you on balcony, it is 100% worth it to move your dispenser to apartments, tucked in a corner next to the window by the far stairs. This will allow power classes to hold it indefinitely, since ammo is hard to get in apartments due to the only medium ammo box being a peek into a sniper sight line.
If you are using a leveled sentry, upward basically requires the rescue ranger
A few times I've built my teleport, dispenser, and sentry on Behind Roof and we've prevented the BLU team from leave the Spawn. Although other times the BLU team knows what they're doing and my builds don't stay up for long.
You can actually spam at the Pub Spot with rockets through a crack in the floorboards from Under without it seeing you, I've went on soldier with the Direct Hit many times in order to do this against a team with a solid defense. Getting the right angle can be frustrating at times, but if they can't see you before you start shooting, it's a swing.
Defense, last point.
If you want to have your dispenser healing your team, have a teleporter near the dispenser that leads up to your sentry. Spies will love this, but if you got a good pyro or half-aware teammates, it should work. Especially in pubs.
I find last point really a hard hold as engie before due to the easy spammability from the apartments, but hopefully the teleporter and communication advice will help. Thanks Dane!
I think the turret placement tips are going to super helpful
because I like to use them in a more aggressive manner when I can.
Just so theirs no misunderstanding, I think all the other tips are great as well, I just meant the ones involving the turrets placement seem especially useful sense I like to utilize it as much as possible.
I don’t know if it’s just me but i like using the jag on attack and place big boi sentries at outside the far door at spawn on the right on the tracks on the hill at the pillar outside the house at the choke then just behind the house and then the final point is next to the crates at the choke that’s all the spots you can put lvl 2 or 3s (your choice) at these points to become a extremely aggressive battle engi
its so nice how all the players in the game stayed in spawn so dane could make this video
Uncle Dane in another attack/defence style map maybe consider talking about levelled sentries with the jag.
Also. Suijin and nucleus would be nice maps to look at. Thanks for the great video and engineering help
I can't wait for the next one! I haven't been interested In a video like this in a long time
Hey man! It's you are my 2nd favorite Team Fortress 2 youtuber and my favorite exclusive TF2 youtuber, you have been an amazing help in the way I play engineer. You are funny and a great teacher as well. You are, along with MrPaladin, one of the best engineer youtubers and one of the best youtubers in general. You are amazing at TF2 and alternative play styles. It's so fun to watch you play aggresively and defensively. I think every new TF2 player should watch like, 5 of your videos. Anyway, overall, I

DANIGT!!!
This series is pretty cool. I would love a bad water blueprints video, as it is now a competitive map.
Honestly, one of the best videos, sad the series didint get expanded...
@@dennyg3315 Well two-three videos thats it.
i play only singleplayer/training (because of bad internet) and i don't get any items. do i have to play online to get items?
"Nope."

Vincent van Roosmalen you must be connected to the internet , if you are , it doenst matter whether you're playing pvp or not
Vincent van Roosmalen I Feel so bad for you
Yea
You dont need to have internet to get items because i got a weapon on single player mode
Dane this is super helpful because I'm trying to get good at engineer and this video was great! If you could do this for other maps and maybe do it for other class strategies as well. Thx
i missed this series
i love long videos
i love you
so i am happy right now
this not only helps the engineers but me for knowing where to look when im roaming
For Upward at the last point I usually put a dispenser right behind my Century right behind that wall so the walking protect my dispenser and I can just keep repairing it
You forgot about a risky spot: the bridge in the tunnel, I like to put my lvl 3 sentry there sometimes because of 2 reasons:
1. tf2 players don't look up
2. people don't expect a sentry there, so you can get kills by surprise.
But its kinda risky because when your sentry is found out it'll die instantly because it has no cover or anything.
on offence, I like to put a mini sentry between the B hut and those wooden walls near the cliffside, partially hidden behing those metal plates below the Bhut staircase ... place it in such a way that it's not visible for the enemy team as they leave the spawn, but only if they want to enter the tunnel or go spam the flank ... this means 90% of the time someone is going to bet in sight of the sentry, they'll be running away from it in another direction and not notice it in time
this is especially effective against countering pyros, scouts or spies who just got a backstab ... when I played it one match, i saved the medic a lot of times because a spy would get a stab and get surprise finished off by that mini sentry
If there are two engies I like to go mini and place my sentry between the b hut and the rock since no one really looks there and it has a pretty good veiw of the point and also covers the flank if your being aggressive with your shotgun and not just your mini.
17:32 Raise your hand if you've been playing Upward frequently for several years and just found about the drop-down spawn route from this video. 🙋♂️
I'd like to see pl_barnblitz next.

at the last cp at the balcony where blu can flank is the best
for me at least
Wow... This video helps me alot. Thanks!
All engis pray for you and your knowledge sentry man
We need more of these bad bois
They should make Downward
And it would be the most claustrophobic undeground-like map
How is "they"
Thanks for the tips Uncle Dane the engi main
i remember this helped me a lot. thanks Dane.
I've never played competitive, but I like to put my sentry on the lower end of the hill, near here you put your mini since it can cover the stairs and catches a lot of people off guard. But I dunno, maybe that's just cuz I only play in pubs
when you point out where you should put your buildings. you should (just a thought) change the color of the word from green to yellow to red to point out how dangerous the spot is.
You didn't mention my fav last sentry spot for red... on the crates in the doorway
I'm having trouble defending C at the balcony. Despite what Uncle Dane claims about the wrangler being so OP thanks to the shield, I keep losing it to direct hit soldiers. Typically the first hit lands of the Sentry Gun before I can put the shield up and start retaliating. It is hard to see all the way to the tracks, so when I keep looking around myself and take a look down the main slope and the tracks, anyone at the tracks I need a second or two to find. This means I almost always cannot shield against the first rocket. Keeping my eyes in that direction only makes it easier for me to spot enemies, but I go down to spies 75% of the time I spend all my time staring in one direction. I've tried the idea of constantly wrangling while moving around to look out for spies, but this actually makes me die to spies more often than when I don't wrangle and constantly stare down the main slope choke.
Snipers are also a problem. Before Sentry falloff was made, I could sometimes beat them back unless they could quickscope me (in which case I lost a 80 second investment to the 20 seconds it takes for him to walk out of spawn and aim at me, but I'm OK with that because he deserved it if they can quickscope headshot). Now, they can usually harass me at their leisure unless I can land rockets _at their feet_ and not their center of mass. Which means I can lose an 80 second investment to someone who takes his time to aim because he just isn't quite good enough. This is somewhat easier with a friendly sniper next to me (although this sometimes ended up with both of us going down to a single spy or uber Pyro) or a friendly sniper on the tracks (the tracks where it bends, not the tracks where enemy snipers harass me). Even if the friendly sniper lost the duel, it gives me enough time to vaporize the bastard.
I'm not expecting to fend off the entire enemy team on my own. If an uber push comes and demolishes everything, I can live with that. If I'm trying to deal with this stupid Sniper and a Spy backstabs me while I'm wrangling, I can live with that. If a Scout uses Bonk! to block bullets and a Pyro, Heavy, and Soldier stream out of the house to kill me and demolish everything, I can live with that. If a Spy saps my stuff while I'm getting more metal and stabs me when I try to remove the sapper because I thought he ran away, hats off to him. But losing a 80 second investment to a Sniper who is only OK and took a long time to aim, that bugs me. Can I please have some advice on how to handle this long range harassment?
I just realized that the engineer can secretly be a mastermind leader through subtle placements of dispensers and teleporters
The very worst situation for you with mini sentries is that a spy gets a free crit
I near exclusively use Mini Sentries on Defence, and get top score pretty often.
I like to put my sentry on the stairs leading to the shithouse right under the cart, it's super aggressive but it can sometimes work
I remember in one casual game my entire team switched to engie for last defense on red. To this day I still don’t know how it didn’t work
Dane please make a video on how to use the short circuit
I always use the apartments it awesome
p.s I love your channel and might main engi now
Vice ganda
My favorite map is upward by far. Im sorta sad he didn't go over how amazing ninjaneering is on this map.
I usually put my second point sentry gun on the first second point dispenser spot
Very high quality video
27:00 what about when the point your team's aiming for has several entryways, and need a quick way to each of those entryways to keep the enemy guessing?
My personal favorite map.
If you got a buddy engineer with you, you could ask them to build their nest in the last point's window area...
Dude I love this! Make more of these!
I wish school was like this
So my wifi cut out, but I guess the power of uncle Dane was too powerful and I still finished the vid
Only a engineer main can make a 37 minute long vid on upward :P
I decided to rewatch this video and only got egg adds, so i think youtube is sending me a message about you dane. I know you love eggs now and sold out to the eggs.
I love snowcoast. try to do a video on that
Thx man This really helped me.
At 2:38, A pyro can easily camp that place just by air blasting that place... Even long if an Engineer chooses to build the pyro a dispenser...
do pl_ququmannz from the mayann projects. great map and pretty well balanced
Thanks for the help man.
Great video, though I don't play engineer except to help upgrade a teleports
i'm surprised that you never mentioned that you can build buildings under balcony at the third point. On defense i use it as a tele spot when we are holding third because no one ever sees it and if nobody does than it would be a good flank for when you hold last. On offence it is a good spot if you managed to get around the team when trying to take second and it is also good if you are trying to get third
Informative and essential
For me, Ninganeer-get behind enemy lines and make a tele exit behind enemy lines with your tele entrance at spawn
I don't know if it's just me because uncle Dane's voice is a little satisfaction

Uncle Dane, can you make a ctf_turbine video? You are my favorite youtuber.
This was posted on my birthday 🙃
17:40 Placing a teleporter at ground-level encourages bad habits on players and I would highly recommend not doing this. I would actually place the teleporter on the upper-right corner because players can see the entrance when they spawn, so they're more encouraged to move to the door on the upper-right. They can also follow players who know what they're doing through that door and arrive that much quicker when the teleporter is down. I feel like it's generally a bad idea to put the teleporter at ground-level unless you want to group entrances with another engie who already put his entrance down before you did.
Wait does the rescue ranger allow to pick up your buildings from any distance?
17:36 my eyes are opened
