@Henry_BG idk bro, its been a while since I did that on 2fort, I can't really remember, did the engie you shoot had the word "your" as the first word in their name?
They are drawn out because TF2's implementation is made to make them long. In most other games the CTF mode has a round timer (so you can win 1:0 on a 3 point match) and the flag returns back to base on touch (so that you don't have to camp on it in the open for a minute). And usually you can only get a point when your own flag is also at home.
That's about it, people more often goof around in CTF. It's far more laid back than Payload. As you said, you can experiment with other classes and the games are more drawn out. There's not so much of a sense of urgency.
2:03 personally speaking, my favorite thing to do in capture the flag pubs is to set up a fully fledged sentry nest in the ENEMY intel room. I don’t cap, I just sit there and watch as confused players fall ass first onto my level three sentry. Until I inevitably and deservedly get destroyed by a demoman.

I've actually used CTF to teach some new players a couple times now. As turtle engie no less. Why? Because tf2 is chaotic, complicated and has lots of high skill veterans playing. CTF is the definition of a casual game mode. If I threw these newbies into a payload map, they'd be confused as to why they were dying and what they need to do to help. CTF is simple. The object barely matteres and when you have players who don't even know how to make buildings yet, the object is the last thing they need to worry about. CTF is perfect for learning the basics in a casual, low pressure environment with other players who are either new or just messing around. That's the best you'll get when this game doesn't actually have a tutorial.
The only reason CTF is so casual is because there is no deathmatch mode. Which by definition would be the most casual mode without any objectives besides killing. CTF in general is a rather tactical mode, knowing when to push or defend, which route to take, how much resources to commit to a push and what to hold back to defend the own flag. TF2 just implements it in a very nothing happens way.
As someone who basically learned everything while playing in a 24/7 CTF turbine skial server, this is so true. That CTF server basically feels like home to me now since, while casual was overrun with bots, I could go there to get some fun play time in and slowly get better.

@@duncanchillake8024 thats actually a fair point. although in maps like 2fort where out of position enemies get punished fairly easily since theres only two ways in and two ways out of the intel, you could argue its not needed since they'll likely die anyways on the way out.
Also, make it so the Intelligence timer isn't reset, but slowly increases depending on the time it's carried. For example, if there is 10 seconds left on the briefcase and a scout holds it for 5 seconds before dying, the briefcase will have a 15 second timer on it rather than the 30 second timer.
Capture the flag is my “lagging game-mode” which is a game-mode I go on to get rid of the lag I get when I start the game because I can just slam dunk a level 3 sentry in the intel room as I lag to hell in the corner of spawn. I then go play payload or control points when the lag is gone. Or I just stick around on it because everyone is memeing so I just think “it won’t hurt to just do the kazotsky kick for another hour right?”
my friend's first TF2 experience was CTF on 2fort many years ago. everything she experienced in that mode was her impression of the game as a whole - matches were too long, stalemates common, sniper (her fav class) seemed useless, etc. it took me a long time to convince her to play some payload with me last year, but now she really enjoys the game and we play often. ctf needs a damn timer haha
i love that map. :3 the funny thing is that i hear the same guy talk about the hard learning curve that scares away new players. but new players get attracted to ctf maps of tf2... well see the problem there? but then again the fps community in general is toxic so just write ":D" every time you kill them and see salt getting all over the floor... i love that.
First of all, that intro was hilarious! Second, I was one of those noobs who started on CTF and would only play it for the longest time because, as you said, it was the most familiar. But after finally trying other game modes, I have to 100% agree with everything you said! Payload is officially my favorite mode to play because, as you said, it encourages mobility and trying different methods while CTF encourages staying in the same spot.
Most people don't play CTF to well capture the flag, it's simply a Deathmatch for fun. There's no meta, nobody really cares about the objective and at the end of the day most of the people there just wan to mess around with stupid things in a stupid way, CTF as a game mode is absouloute trash, yet played in the special way the community has decided on is incredibly fun
You put it perfectly. I play CTF, specifically and exclusively on Turbine, because I just like to fuck around. @@somefries3101 Exactly. I can't aim and really aren't too bothered about playing competitively so for me it's great to just Kazotsky kick with half the server for an hour and just have some fun
This feels like a time capsule. Talking about competitive, mentioning update changes, hoping valve will change map lineups, its a perfect time capsule.
In overwatch it suffered from the exact same bullcrap, Bastions camping next to flag, Symmetra's turreting the entire area around the flag and Torb just building turrets. The only difference is that ends in an official stalemate, instead of an enjoyable team deathmatch fuckfest.
Agreed... imo, most of the old maps in tf2 were made for 12 players per teams, with around half of each team being defensive and the other half offensive.
Overwatch CTF was arguably worse. With only 6 players on a small map, 1 lost teamfight means the enemy team has a guaranteed flag cap. It was even possible to cheese the flag by doing something like playing Reinhardt and grabbing the flag then charging half the way back.
Lets be honest, people only play CTF to play deathmatch. Many casuals don't want to play the objective and there's nothing in CTF that forces players to play the objective. Which begs the question, why aren't there any good DM maps out there? Why beat around the bush when all CTF is good for is racking up frags?
Well, valve hides death match in the “alternative” ganemodes section, which means less people play it or even know it exists. This leads to long wait times for unfilled games, so people just ignore them and que up for ctf.
TheDream64 Were you able to do that at one point? I feel like that's something a lot of players do who played the game for a long time. But just started playing again recently
Me and my friend were playing casual TF2 for the first time in ages earlier today and we were having a great time until we got to the 45 minute 2Fort match. We stopped after that.
Most times it will be a stalemate for 1-2 hours before some people get bored and start pushing the enemy base but someone will steal their intel three consecutive times in the span of like 10 minutes
god i remember when i was in a 2 fort server with my friend and he had finished a contract so he couldn't leave without removing it, the round proceeds to go another 5 hours with 2 caps on blue and 1 on red
Many of my first matches in TF2 were CTF on 2Fort. It far outweighed other game-modes and maps. It was so repetitive, mind-numbingly simple and frustrating to see that neither team ever seemed to make any progress and many people were just fucking around. The map and mode made TF2 feel like an abandoned amateur project. It honestly made me want to quit. Eventually, I heard from others to just disable CTF from the list. I did, and suddenly I was having a ton of fun. The objectives were all doable and dependent on teamwork. I could get a lot better as a player and team-mate. I don't think I'd have continued playing if I hadn't done that.
i love it for the more casual feel, it feels more like a tdm almost, but with an objective, and gives a lot of screw around time, which has offerend some of the most humorous memories, but i will admit, i do wish people would take a step back from being a hoovie or dancing around, step back from just trying to get kills, and actually try to capture, i remember it being a lot more competitive a few years ago, but now, it drives me crazy how many people call out and say "dont cap!" when you are trying to actually win a round, it used to be a rare treasure when a ctf match turned goofy, but now it seems like its totally swapped
i've said this before but i think it would be better if the intelligence spawned in the enemy teams base. turning ctf into less capture the flag and more like tf2 based football with two balls. this would allow the journey the intelligence takes to become more difficult the further along things are. with this change the intelligence would have to fight an uphill battle against the opposing intelligence also trying to be capped, while having the "counter-intuitive if you don't think about it" consequence of making things go faster.
I still remember booting up 2fort in 2013. I'd engi rocket jump, and set up my sentry on top of the bridge (in front of the enemy base). I'd sit with my back to the corner and my rescue ranger out. They never Uber'd. I was so proud of myself.
Community CTF maps are so good tho, especially the ones in TF2 Classic. CTF would be cooler if the maps were designed better and there were time limits.
The last time I played Turbine on a pub, it went a little somethin' like this: >My friend goes engineer, and for whatever reason, puts his sentry on the cap point. >I go engineer, and just to humor him, I do the same. >The other engineer, who happened to put his sentry in the cap room, puts his sentry on the point as well. >My other friend goes engineer and does the same. >In minutes, the whole team (minus one pyro spychecker) was engineer. >We have a wall of metal around our intelligence. >The blues start to try and cap. >Border patrol says no. >They try again. A soldier and medic uber-push. >Border patrol says no. >A medic and a heavy uber-push. >Border patrol says no. >A spy tries to sap our sentries. >Immigration (our pyro) says no. >45 minutes pass. >Somehow, our wall crumbles and diminishes over time. >We all go scout and hella rush. >We have taken the enemy intelligence. >In under a minute, we capture. >Since we stayed in the capture room, we immediately have taken the enemy intelligence. >We have secured the enemy intelligence. >We have taken the enemy intelligence. >We have secured the enemy intelligence. >Red team wins. >Blue team gets mad and reports us. >My other friend got VAC'ed.
1:00 Yeah but what if your playing TF2 On a computer that is 10 years old and it runs Windows 10 and it gives you 5 frames per second? Did you think about that?
“The community”. You mean payload players who don’t like playing ctf. Absolutely no one who plays ctf wants a timer. People get salty when a f2p scout caps three times and wins the game.
I remember in 2015 actually playing this mode, and capping on Hightower too. It was normal at the time, there wasn’t anyone in chat spamming “DONT CAP” before you get kicked
Don't forget the "Hey, no capping" people I got kicked for holding the intel after my team capped twice. Kick player? Reason: Playing the game Anyhow, I think this game mode should and must have a time limit too. Otherwise, it'd be an endless kicking game instead.
Kiammyfy honestly depends what your team was doing, being friendly, yeah you get kicked. But if there just killing people then I don't see the point in that.
Honestly it’s because it’s so big and hard to maneuver around. However I personally don’t hate it because it’s fun to play on plus it doesn’t feel like a maze for me anymore.
I agree it feels like a maze but it isn't and I just get fucking lost in dead ends. The respawns are also really confusing. But it is better than Hydro lol
7:20 or i thought of, when for example a scout touches the intel and runs away for 2 seconds and and intelligence was already on 30 seconds left and that the scout dies, it just adds the 2 seconds that the scout was carrying the intel
This video has some pretty valid points, but honestly I personally think that having the intel automatically return to the base upon touch would be a really bad idea because it would cause more stalemates, not stop them. I've seen many situations where people have taken the intel, gotten killed, then someone else is able to steal it and carry the intel to their base, scoring a point. If CTF had the touch-and-return mechanic, you would have to somehow make it all the way into the enemy's base, steal the intel, and run all the way back without dying, because if you died even *once,* all your progress would be completely lost, and it would be really hard for anyone to capture, causing the game to last a *ridiculously* long time, if not forever.
Perhaps a compromise is in order. Say in order to reset the intelligence, you have to pick it up and carry it back to your capture point, effectively capping your own intel. We could still have a (much shorter) wait time on picking it up for the defending team to ensure that the intel doesn't reset every time someone gets a random crit.
@@ThomasFarquhar2 If i were on the team that can't go to their own intel room, i would go Medic. However if i'm not... Then luckily one random player in the other team will pick Medic, a player who just joined to the match sees that there's no Medic on the team and decides to pick him or the entire team makes a push without a Medic and somehow destroy the sentry. Also, Sentries aren't that hard to destroy... If you're a Soldier you can use splash damage. If you're a demo you can use Sticky Bombs, If you're a Heavy and have The Second Banana you can destroy it (Banana's recharge time is quick). However if there's more than one Sentry or/and engineers, that's another story.
I like Capture the Flag for the same reason I like Hightower - half the time, people ignore the point in favor of good, old-fashioned DM. And sometimes, it's fun just to DM for the hell of it.
"Good old-fashioned" brainless deathmatch? Yea because that's why TF2 team objective oriented game was invented for, just to kill other people like brainless lemings

@Arjun and Arnav Menon the Console version never gets the latest updates like Jungle Inferno, Scream Fortress or Smissmas. Maybe even an update before the Jungle Inferno. But thats just my thought
CTF was luckily not my first gamemode, but I do like it, occasionally. Usually it’s just fun to fight without doing the objectives, but back during the high point of bots, the entire other team was bots, so my team went full offensive and medics, with 3 heavy’s, 6 engineers, a 3 medics. We, unlike most CTF sessions, pushed forward with our sentries and heavy’s, cornering the snipers in their spawns, and as the Heavy’s protected the sentries along with the medics, us Engineers valiantly grabbed the Intelligence and won the game. That was my first 5,10,15,20 and 41 kill streaks and it was amazing. We didn’t cower from the bots, we pushed them to their base and won, and it was with the power of coordination. CTF is fun if you coordinate attacks, but it’s also fun just killing and goofing around. Nice video by the way!
@@TrueFlameslinger Letting players carry their own Intel is another problem, because a heavy could carry it whilst being healed by a medic, and the other team would have an even harder time trying to cap it because theyre mobile, and will shoot whatever is shooting them

true, it's so drawn out that you don't even have to sweat and worry about losing, making you want to play classes with gimmicky loadouts

Ah... The ocean

The fun part is when you successfully build a sentry in the ENEMY intel while a teammate simultaniously steals the briefcase.
It isn't the worst since it gives tf2 players a more relaxing way to play it, you don't nearly have to do as much so it's very chill.
Also, it is doesn't rush you with the time limit and it lets people have fun time by taunting and everything

Guy nah that's Hightower.
The whole point of ctf is that your team has to attack and defend at the same time, it shouldn't be for less then 9 player teams.
grfrog you can play ctf in overwatch and it's always 6v6. It can work, if the players like Dane had a better mentality.
It was an arcade gamemode, you can't play it right now. Instead of insulting his mentality try having some actual arguments.
*Me playing capture the flag on the 2Fort map because any other que takes forever*

Lets be honest, people only play CTF to play deathmatch. Many casuals don't want to play the objective and there's nothing in CTF that forces players to play the objective.
Which begs the question, why aren't there any good DM maps out there? Why beat around the bush when all CTF is good for is racking up frags?
Moldy Carrot and thus Hightower was born
Well, valve hides death match in the “alternative” ganemodes section, which means less people play it or even know it exists. This leads to long wait times for unfilled games, so people just ignore them and que up for ctf.
Jensen Bartel deathmatch is in the alternative section I didn’t know that, unless your referring to player destruction?

Capture the flag is the most fun gamemode and maps to dick around with , but for actually playing the objective they are easily the worst.
Personally I love those moments in CTF where we hold the Intel, but not just ours. It's just thrilling barely surviving an enemy push and rebuilding.
i love it for the more casual feel, it feels more like a tdm almost, but with an objective, and gives a lot of screw around time, which has offerend some of the most humorous memories, but i will admit, i do wish people would take a step back from being a hoovie or dancing around, step back from just trying to get kills, and actually try to capture, i remember it being a lot more competitive a few years ago, but now, it drives me crazy how many people call out and say "dont cap!" when you are trying to actually win a round, it used to be a rare treasure when a ctf match turned goofy, but now it seems like its totally swapped
I thought i was losing it thinking of it. It’s kinda like how flat wings are more preferred than drum wings all of a sudden
i've said this before but i think it would be better if the intelligence spawned in the enemy teams base. turning ctf into less capture the flag and more like tf2 based football with two balls.
this would allow the journey the intelligence takes to become more difficult the further along things are. with this change the intelligence would have to fight an uphill battle against the opposing intelligence also trying to be capped, while having the "counter-intuitive if you don't think about it" consequence of making things go faster.

Don't think you can get vac'd from reports... and if you can, and he does, you can probably find a way to appeal the vac ban.
he had already been VAC'ed 2 times before for messing with lmaobox so he just made a new account
VAC is anticheat. You cant get a VAC for just getting reported.
I smell fake.
1:00 Yeah but what if your playing TF2 On a computer that is 10 years old and it runs Windows 10 and it gives you 5 frames per second?
Did you think about that?
Yeah..... Its still a terrible at teaching newbies though
@@unknownuser8967 for fucks sake keep the noobies in CTF until they learn how to use WASD
You should be happy that you get to use Windows 7
The community: we need a timer for CTF maps!
Valve: you mean Powerhouse right?
“The community”. You mean payload players who don’t like playing ctf. Absolutely no one who plays ctf wants a timer. People get salty when a f2p scout caps three times and wins the game.
@@MANTHELEXUS No I mean people who play ctf
@@MANTHELEXUS You aren't "Playing CTF" you're either fucking around or playing endless team death match.
As a 2fort CTF player I agree
Capture the flag players when someone captures the flag.
I remember in 2015 actually playing this mode, and capping on Hightower too. It was normal at the time, there wasn’t anyone in chat spamming “DONT CAP” before you get kicked
Don't forget the "Hey, no capping" people
I got kicked for holding the intel after my team capped twice.
Kick player? Reason: Playing the game
Anyhow, I think this game mode should and must have a time limit too. Otherwise, it'd be an endless kicking game instead.
Kiammyfy honestly depends what your team was doing, being friendly, yeah you get kicked. But if there just killing people then I don't see the point in that.
ikr, just like in Hightower. It may be funny at first, but after an hour of stalemate, it's annoying.
Thou shalt not cap.
I understand people not wanting to cap, but kicking teammates for capping is asinine, especially in casual when some people want to complete contracts
I hate the Steel map. The whole thing is a giant freaking maze and you don't know where you are half the time.
*Sees a sign that points to the different control points* SUCH A MAZE!
@@mamamiazakaria7481 off the top of my head, I can only think of 2 dead ends. Both of them are areas for red snipers.
@@connorthompson66 then I keep repeating my mistakes then but still that fucking map hurts head
7:20 or i thought of, when for example a scout touches the intel and runs away for 2 seconds and and intelligence was already on 30 seconds left and that the scout dies, it just adds the 2 seconds that the scout was carrying the intel
Pretend you get the briefcase. 2 seconds later, the entire other team is engineer each with a lvl 3 turret
I think having to stand near the Intel for 10 seconds to reset it would be a good compromise
For some reason I really enjoy big long stalemates
+GlitchyShadow me too
GlitchyShadow Me too except for the fact that I will play for 8 hours and forget to shower
If you take CTF seriously, that's a problem.
How to prevent enemies capping in CTF
Put the sentry in the enemies intel room, can’t cap with a red sentry in the blu base
Muselk described that strategy as "Mexican Standoff" They can't get in but you can't get out

I was on a 2 hour game of ctf on 2fort. It's just an unending quagmire every time. Loved it.
I like Capture the Flag for the same reason I like Hightower - half the time, people ignore the point in favor of good, old-fashioned DM. And sometimes, it's fun just to DM for the hell of it.
It would make more sense to move the good old fashioned DM let's dance to alternative or something and sure as hell not COMP
Galahandhi There is no official deathmatch gamemode though.
Ryusuta I just go their to farm my stranges
"Good old-fashioned" brainless deathmatch? Yea because that's why TF2 team objective oriented game was invented for, just to kill other people like brainless lemings
you dont seem like a person who would play tf2
I like how you can hear King Raja saying "That's my suitcase, bro!" at the end of the "Classic Uncle Dane intro"
in ctf my brother likes to build in the enemy's intel room. that never gets old.
Liam Mc Cormick sneak a teleporter there, use the Erika effect and then just teleport to your base make a turret then warp back to enemy intel and put a turret in their capture point
@@scipio7994 oh no, its different on console version, you have to sneakily build in the enemys intel room and then DARE the enemy team to attack. quickly build a sentry and dispenser (dispensers cant be upgraded might I add) and just hope no one pops an uber.
the french engineer do people still play on console?
Oh thats a ninjaneer!

There's actually a console command that makes a dropped intelligence breifcase return once a player on the respective team touches it.
I feel like maybe it'd be cool if, to return the Intel outside of the cool down, you'd have to drag it back to your own Intel room.
@@TrueFlameslinger Letting players carry their own Intel is another problem, because a heavy could carry it whilst being healed by a medic, and the other team would have an even harder time trying to cap it because theyre mobile, and will shoot whatever is shooting them
Better idea how about the intel stays on the ground 30 seconds instead of 60 seconds
