One tip that I can't remember dane saying... If you have a level 1 teleporter and you can't upgrade it or something, pick it up and rebuild it and you'll be able to teleport people faster
A little tid bit is that picking up and placing teleporters removed the cooldown for teleportation, which is useless in most situations, but can be very nice when using a level 1 teleporter, which can function pretty much at the speed of a level 2 due to the redeploy time being 5 seconds without needing to go through the upgrade animation, so youre saving 5 seconds on each teammate basically, just remember to redeploy the exist or the entrance only
You know, I always knew that destroyed buildings gave out ammo but I never thought of it as a viable strategy to use in-game. Wouldn't it be a bit more ideal to build the teleporters since they're the cheapest and then destroy them? Or do teleporters give less metal gibs to use as ammo? Either way woot we graduated from Engineer 101. Also the sound the Scout's corpse makes at 5:52 was a nice touch, I laughed a bit harder than I should have.
Teleporters only give 4 gibs so dispensers would be better also you team already uses the dispenser for ammo so they aren't missing out on much by you destroying it, but they rely on teleporters to get to the front line not to get ammo so overall it just makes more sense to do this to the dispenser
Just A Random Dood Also takes slightly longer to gib two teles instead of one dispenser, so depending on how urgent your team needs the ammo, that's a consideration. But ye, generally teles are better to gib than dispensers (given that you aren't already using teleporters, which you likely will already be using and thus can't gib without handicapping your team immensely).
Just A Random Dood Was mostly referring to manual destroys, but yeah, obviously scripts will compress the entire process into one click. But still, if you don't have a teleport up already, you're already hindering your team by not having one up. Just get the tele up instead of giving your team slightly more ammo :3
if their firepower is good and they need the ammo, i'd rather destroy a passive sentry while i whack a new dispenser, destroying buildings can look like a good idea but it's metal you aren't getting back immediately and Dispenser will always be a better investment of your metal, you can build a dispenser and get it to lvl 2 sacrificing your sentry, instead of a lvl 1 dispenser after blowing it out once while your sentry sits there doing nothing

Actually I've thought of that strategy too where you place your sentry facing the wall so people get in too deep to retreat BUT I've noticed it's not that effective because as soon experienced players hear that beeping noise that sentry does when it spots an enemy they instantly back out even though they don't know where sentry is exactly. And correctly facing sentry is more than enough for inexperienced players. :/ And thank god you take it seriously! There are already too many how to soldier/scout/sniper/spy videos but not enough Engie videos. I love playing support like Medic and Engie because at the end you actually can see that due to your help your team won. So please do keep doing these awesome high quality videos man! :)
i didn't think i would learn much... i was wrong. Didn't expect 5 medium ammo kits from a dispenser, since it drops so little metal. And the point about facing the sentry toward the wall to bait someone into a space with no cover is truly next level
Back from the dead. That B/W Route 10 music (Ik it's Super Smash Bros but still) is excellent and fitting, considering that this is the last Engineering 101 video in the series and in a way, the last lap of the series.
About the dispenser giving double ammo and metal when being stood on, this also works for enemy spies. I discovered this by accident during the last Halloween event when an engi built a dispenser in a good spot to take potshots at Monoculous. I noticed I was getting double the ammo amount whenever I had to reload. Of course, the spy does need to be disguised for this to work, and I'd also suggest only doing this during the Halloween event maps.
10:02 I can imagine a second part to this scene where he sees the enemy spy, the the rest of his body snaps quickly around to gun down the spy with ease.

This is the best 6 episode Anime series I have ever seen, and I am sad to see it go. Hopefully the intermediate spinoff “Engineering 202” gets picked up by VRV
Well we are graudated from Uncle Dane's Internet School now we are the players that keep teaching new engies and after that when they graudated they will teach new engies how to play and this will be a natural cycle
I actually figured out on my own the logic of placing a sentry facing the wall. I felt so smart and satisfied at the time, and that was because I put effort into playing in different ways that aren't necessarily the meta or something like that. So, as Dane said, I suggest anyone that plays the game to experiment, and play in unexpected ways. It is like playing a new game altogether, and it feels amazing.
Yeah, Valve added that a couple years ago. There is even a console command you can use to force "true first person view" even if you are not playing with VR. Just type into the console: cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1 To de-activate it, type into console: cl_first_person_uses_world_model 0 The command binds the virtual camera to your character model's head, instead of their chest where it usually is, and simulates seeing your character from world view instead of client view. Meaning you can see your character's body and feet when you look down, any equipped cosmetic items (and worn items in weapons slots, like the Soldier's Gunboats boots), a bit of your shoulders if you turn the mouse slightly (so that the character swivels its head without fully turning the body). If you look up while weapon an Unusual quality hat with any floating particle effect (liike i.e. clouds or the Halloween pentacles), you can see the Unusual effect above you, while confetti will constantly rain down in front of your face and circling effects can obstruct your view). Oh, and you can see your shadow on the ground (depending on environmental light conditions on the map). The view mode can generate some weird visual glitches for you though, as it only simulates world view (so it's not exactly what other players see). There will be weird clipping with certain cosmetics. The Demoman's shoulder parrot can clip into your "face" when you look at it. Rocket-jumping with Gunboats or Mantreads on often makes the "weapon" boots float above your body model's stock boots, so that you see both pairs of boots.
You know, with the amount of skill and passion for Engineer that Dane has, combined with his following, you'd think Valve would be a little more willing to give him an actual Golden Wrench.
Here's another tip: There's a certain position around a dispenser which allows you to upgrade it and not take any metal from it while it constantly stores newer metal. For instance, your dispenser is at level 1 and it has some metal stored. If you happen to have ammo packs around (from dead teammates for example) you can use them to upgrade the dispenser to level 2. Then that metal stored in the dispenser which you could've used draining 40 metal per pick becomes 50 metal. Basically you allow the dispenser to get a more valuable reserve of metal without draining it and at the same time, you can upgrade it via other metal sources. It's not like a fact outta this world, but it's interesting when it comes to situations where you got ammo packs around and want the dispenser at its full potential quickly
When Dane was talking about the "Pre-building" part, I realized I have been doing this for the past few months, and I don't even main engie. _flex_ Dane is the type of guy that makes you want to copy everything he does. Like this is the reason why I think I wanna main engie. He does not force you to do something, but because he makes this "something" looks cool, we wanna do it too
Just goes to show that even with nearly 3,000 hours on this game, you can still learn something new. That dispenser trick and purposely facing the sentry away were things I had never even considered doing.

This is the best 6 episode Anime series I have ever seen, and I am sad to see it go. Hopefully the intermediate spinoff “Engineering 202” gets picked up by VRV
The last one? ;(
he'll just make a new series called engineering 202
Well we are graudated from Uncle Dane's Internet School now we are the players that keep teaching new engies and after that when they graudated they will teach new engies how to play and this will be a natural cycle
I actually figured out on my own the logic of placing a sentry facing the wall. I felt so smart and satisfied at the time, and that was because I put effort into playing in different ways that aren't necessarily the meta or something like that.
So, as Dane said, I suggest anyone that plays the game to experiment, and play in unexpected ways. It is like playing a new game altogether, and it feels amazing.
Woah,didnt knew TF2 supported VR...
Yeah, Valve added that a couple years ago. There is even a console command you can use to force "true first person view" even if you are not playing with VR. Just type into the console: cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1
To de-activate it, type into console: cl_first_person_uses_world_model 0
The command binds the virtual camera to your character model's head, instead of their chest where it usually is, and simulates seeing your character from world view instead of client view.
Sad to see this series go :( I’ve definitely learned a lot about how to play engineer, and about the game in general. Thanks for the advice Dane!
*Hears smash bros music*
Uncle Dane is such a nerd.
You know, with the amount of skill and passion for Engineer that Dane has, combined with his following, you'd think Valve would be a little more willing to give him an actual Golden Wrench.
Need the outro song, please help.
Nvm, Pretty sure its the rocky theme 'Gonna Fly Now'. Yes i'm an uncultured swine.
I saw another comment saying it's the NFL Theme Tune, definitely sounds like it is: ruclips.net/video/KxNGMvNIvP8/видео.html
0:15 I see that subtle merch promo in the background.

Here's another tip:
There's a certain position around a dispenser which allows you to upgrade it and not take any metal from it while it constantly stores newer metal.
Wait wasnt uncle Dane the credit card scammer? I saw his contribute to voiceoverPete
When Dane was talking about the "Pre-building" part, I realized I have been doing this for the past few months, and I don't even main engie. _flex_ Dane is the type of guy that makes you want to copy everything he does. Like this is the reason why I think I wanna main engie. He does not force you to do something, but because he makes this "something" looks cool, we wanna do it too
Random crits should not be removed from team fortress 2
His explanation for "A sandbox game in a FPS" really gives me a good mindset for playing Engie
Did they remove random crits?
No? K, see ya.
Just goes to show that even with nearly 3,000 hours on this game, you can still learn something new. That dispenser trick and purposely facing the sentry away were things I had never even considered doing.
10:00 A real engine watches his own back
5:00 whelp time to keep a sharp eye out for that, and it looks like it would be especially good with minis.
