- It's like... Uncle Dane the Engie Brain... get it? Shout out to Mr. Paladin and HiGPS. When I think back to all of the times I've genuinely learned something new about how to improve at TF2 from a RUclips video, most of the time it was because of their gameplay reviews.
My discord, socials, TF2 servers, merch, information about my in-game settings, and video credits (such as the music used in my videos) can be found on my website at uncledane.com

Basicly, the whole engie defense depends on your team. If you have a Py-bro, couple of medics and battle classes, any defense will work! But if you don't have these support from your team - you will fail in any case. :)

KindredKarma Kunitz, are you, or are you not, my clone
Gaming Panji aryo, you mean Southern hospitality
Pro tip from someone who has quite a lot of engie and medic experience: Prioritize getting those teleports up. A steady stream of allies teleporting in > a sentry. An engie nest with no teleport is a wastly inferior nest. This is why my fav wrench is the eureka effect since it allows me to jump back to spawn to re-build the tele entrance when it gets destroyed.
Also, in general you want to build all your things and then get everything up to level 2 before you start upgrading to level 3. The sentry gets it's full firepower on level 2 (rockets are just a lucky bonus if they hit), teleports go from 10 second recharge to 5 (a HUGE difference) and dispensers go from abyssmally bad metal regen and heal rate to a rate that is actually useful. The level 3 upgrades give less for the same price.
Of course, there are always exceptions as sometimes you need to get 1 specific thing up faster/higher level then the rest, but that's my general rule of thumb.
PS. Never build sentries next to other ally sentries unless you want to get KABOOOM'd, and never steal metal from another engies dispenser unless you have buildt your own first (or use the metal you take to upgrade the dispenser you take it from). You will get so much gratitude in return from your ally engineers.

Hey Uncle!
I just wanted to say from a perfectionist standpoint, that I admire your drive to try and push out uber-high quality content and visions you have, and simultaneously extreeeemmeeelyyyyy relate to your feelings of shortcoming on it-- be it procrastination, indecisiveness, overwhelmed, etc. I have visions of what my "perfect" outcome is gonna be on something, some project I'm working on, school, or in something like Minecraft, or my hobbies, and I seem to get very overwhelmed by the high standards I hold myself accountable to, and beat myself down a TON for what I see as failing to meet those standards and I hold it against myself. I get overwhelmed, I feel guilty, and I feel I'm not putting out my best, so I just shut down and procrastinate it all off. So instead of releasing something or performing at 80%, or even accepting 50%, I flat out shut down and put out nothing. It's all or it's nothing. But lately, I've been learning to accept something that I realize isn't my best, knowing it may take so much time and energy that at any given moment I just simply don't have. And if I don't do something, I'll never get anything done for months or more.
So hey, please do release stuff like this more. I love it. It's chill, like so chill that I went to go get some delicious burgers at 1:30am in the morning, and I chose to watch your video while I ate my food, and I don't regret it. That's just amazing that you can make such detail oriented content that takes hours and hours across multiple days and weeks to make, but simultaneously I absolutely like what you put out as is that can be all done within the day. I don't know about the others, but just watching you for you, is already good enough for me, and that applies to other youtubers too who probably do the same things feeling the same way but just don't say anything.
Anyway, thank you. Love your content, and love that little bit of honesty from you in the beginning of your video gave me a little extra boost and inspiration to handle the same issues in my own life. Take care!

You are my only source of Engineer content but sometimes I just want to watch gameplay and I've always wished you uploaded more commentary. The fact that you do short little analysis of specific situation and going over your thoughts is a huge bonus. Also I mostly learn from watching other people play and see how they think about the game. I really like this. Please do more Uncle Dane.

This video was really helpful! It’s cool to be able to see you applying everything you know and teach in game and explaining it a bit more in depth which really helps us out.
I loved this video format! Much easier to watch than a giant thesis ;)
Something I noticed that Overwatch did with their sentries is that they used an idea I had for TF2's Engie, which was a PDA that has you toss a building into position, rather than placing it, and it automatically upgrades to level 2, but cannot be upgraded any further than that. A couple of major differences is that they only have a sentry and no other buildings for Torb, so it's only affecting one building, and my TF2 item idea has the building latch to any surface it collides with, rather than having it fall and bounce until it lands in a place where it could normally be placed. This would enable you to place buildings on walls, ceilings, and even maybe the payload, if the team could figure out how to get that to work without it destroying the building as soon as the payload moves. it's likely that buildings on the payload wouldn't be included in the final version.
No one asked and no one cares. Dane is a hack and your idea is bad
If it's so bad, then how'd it end up in Overwatch?
Definitely liked it! Gave a lot of perspective on good teamplay and planning.
Oogh, I love vidders in this format; always so neat watching folks, and hearing them sorta explain the thought processes behind the actions.

Nobody:
Uncle Dane the Engiee Main: "I've blown my stickies all over someone else" 4:42
Neat video! Now I know that:
1: If I want to really make sure I don't hurt my team, I should not do any actions that give an enemy engineer any metal.
2: If I really want to blow an engie's head off, they spend a lot more time around their sentries than I previously thought.
3: I probably cannot rely on my teammates to destroy an enemy sentry with a bunch of enemy players defending it.
Thanks for helping me become a slightly better sniper!
