    If Florida loses, it'll be the greatest collapse in sports history. Nothing else has compared to it. It's never happened in the finals of any other sport, the only other epic collapse in a final is probably the Atlanta Falcons being up 28-3 at half time at the Super Bowl. This feels bigger than that.

    hyman is what he always was. the difference now is he's playing with mcdavid. 97 carries him the way sid did for kunitz, and the way mario did for kevin stevens. sure, these players play a game that complemented the star they were playing with, to their credit, and that's why it works, but hyman on the leafs takes two full seasons to match his goal output this year.

    Zack was a piece of the core they let get away. Ever since then, they've been looking for a "Zack Hyman" type of player. They should have just kept him and trade Nylander (and figure out something for Tavares). The team should have been built around Matthews and Marner, and now they're likely to lose Marner too. Matthews, Marner and Hyman would have been an excellent top line. Fill the rest of the line up with other quality players (I've always liked Domi) including solidifying goaltending.

    How are the Oilers a "Cinderella story?" They have 2 of the top 5 players ON THE PLANET on their team. They have five 65 point + players. They got all-star Evander Kane for next to nothing because of his off ice issues that filled a gap. Zach Hymen outperformed his contract playing with McDavid. Evan Bouchard stepped up to be a legit number 1 defenseman more than doubling his point total from last year. Skinner emerged last year as a legit number 1 goalie. I get they got off to a bad start this year, but on paper this team is as talented a any. They look far better on paper than Florida. Florida didn't have a single defenseman reach 40 points this season. Bouchard had 82 for the Oil. Elkholm had 45, and the oilers had 3 defensemen with 10+ goals. Florida had 1 with exactly 10. So again, I am not quite seeing how they are a Cinderella team when they are better on paper.

      Bottom of the league in November
      Out of talks for playoffs by Thanksgiving
      Rookie coach
      Went to 7 against Vancouver (being down by 2)
      Went against the Cup favourites for the conference finals
      Down 3:0 against the Panthers with no Kane since game 1 and a injured drai who has yet to score
      Erasing a 3:0 deficit hasn't happened since 1945 in the finals. Any team no matter how good the players are are a Cinderella story by default going down 3:0 in the finals

    • @ericlencher2356
      @ericlencher2356 3 месяца назад

      @@toedrag-release That's not a Cinderella story. Again, I acknowledged they got off to a bad start, but they don't play for the cup in November. Remember when Jack Campbell and the Leafs were first overall in the NHL at the end of November? We all know how that ended! Again, at the start of the Season, Edmonton was the 2nd favorite in the NHL to win the Cup behind only Colorado. Edmonton was +1000, and Colorado was plus 800. S o again, my point stands 100%. They were a FOVORITE to win the cup. A Cinderella story is like when the LA Kings won the cup as an 8 seed. People are misusing the term.

    • @toedrag-release
      @toedrag-release 3 месяца назад

      @@ericlencher2356 At the start during the preseason. In November they were the laughing stock of the NHL losing to the sharks. Coming from the bottom clawing yourselves to the top is pretty spectacular especially when it was a rookie coach.
      But take away everything literally everything happened in the reg season. Being down 3:0 against the favourites in the series, erasing that deficit going into a game 7, has only been done twice in the finals and only has been victorious once. Just the series (assuming they win) would be a Cinderella story then factor in everything else to get to this moment

    • @ericlencher2356
      @ericlencher2356 3 месяца назад +1

      @@toedrag-release Again, NO they are not a Cinderella story. They were the 2nd favorite in the entire NHL to win the Cup. Had Boston, after losing their top 2 HOF centers made it, that would be a Cinderella Story. When the 8th seeded LA Kings won the cup, it was a Cinderella story. And while 30- comebacks don't happen a lot in the finals because they are typically more evenly matched, We have seen both LA and Philly do it in the past 14 years. You are misusing Cinderella story.

    • @toedrag-release
      @toedrag-release 3 месяца назад

      @@ericlencher2356 lmao no they weren't, literally the betting odds don't agree with you Dallas was the favourite in that series, Florida was the favourite in this series. And they were at the bottom of the league to top 4 favourites.
      More than 1 Cinderella story can exist at once. I won't argue about any of the examples you said because those are OTHER Cinderella stories.
      Being down 3:0 to the favourites of the series and the playoffs, having to claw 4 straight wins. Yeah it qualifies just there alone so do other reverse sweeps that have taken place. They typically don't happen in the finals nor does erasing a 3:0 deficit. In the history of the NHL so over 100 years only once has a reverse sweep happened in the finals, and only 7 times in the playoffs. I'd argue They're all Cinderella stories.

      Yup. No one's talking about how the Oilers' PK has changed the way they're making decisions. Everyone keeps saying the Oilers need to stay out of scrums because they might take one guy. The reality is, Oilers win either way. Their PP is excellent, their PK is other-worldly. Oilers are the ones who are enjoying every single scrum right now, and the Panthers are constantly teetering on the edge with them.
      If that was not offside and they go short, I think there's a better chance they go back up 3-1 on that PK than it's tied back up. That's an easy choice for me.

    About Hyman, it was a mistake back in the day too. Covid and the missing games hide how great Hyman actually was with Toronto. His pace in his last 4 seasons with the leaf was 40pts, 47pts, 59pts and 63pts. Same with his goals, 15 goals, 24 goals, 33 goals, 28 goals. In his last season with Toronto, Hyman was 71st forward in PPG, the 71st most paid players at the time was Saad with 6M$. Hyman at 5.5M$ was a good deal with his offensive production alone, then add his defensive ability, his PK, his work ethics and his positive presence in the team and it was a BIG mistake at the time. People were just blinded by the reduced stats from covid limiting the number of games. It's ridiculous to say that a 30 goals, 60pts player with all those great added qualities was not worth 5.5M$ back then.

    Hyman is NOT that good. a Paper clip could score 50 goals playing with McDavid and Leon.

    Prepare for the fall off of Hyman.

    I’ll be more surprised if marner does get moved at this point. Clearly ownership and management are just spouting lip service. Loosing guys like Hyman, marchment, verhaege etc all due to the cap not being spent wisely. Management needs to learn how to sell these guys on less contract dollars more endorsement dollars. These guys just being leaf’s can make more then their contracts just on endorsement deals, ask Hyman it’s how he made his money here. As long as the leafs keep taking guys that care more about themselves then the team then this will forever be the result

      Wouldn't you say that Hyman would have taken less in Toronto if he cared about the team more than himself? Nope, he went for his pay day in Edmonton, he didn't get what he wanted in Toronto, so he left, he wanted a NTC and Dubas said no, every player wants what they want and they will go elsewhere to get it, not saying that they should have bowed to the core 4, but don't act like Hyman's motives were not self serving

      @@northerngurl6178 he was a first line player that had been severely underpaid for years, he made up for it with lots of endorsements, but there’s a difference between being underpaid and taking a discount, 5.5 was a discount…at the time even if he hadn’t continued to grow he was still very fair market value for a guy that did all the things he was doing and continues to do. That all being said he is not the only guy the leafs have lost, if the core 4 had of all signed in the 8-10 range it wouldn’t have been an underpayment but it would have given the team room to keep more then one of those guys.

OLD VETS!

    It looks crazy that we had a parade for the 92-93 Leafs, but at the time it didn't seem absurd. That run was magic, it came after the worst era of Leafs hockey (at the time) and made Leaf fans out of a lot of us of a certain vintage. They made us feel like the horrors of the Harold Ballard were really and truly done. Also, at the time the Hawks, Rangers and Red Wings still had longer cup droughts and there were still original expansion teams with no cups, so celebrating really good instead of great was not nearly as embarrassing.

    Hyman was ok in Toronto. Injuries and playoff performances were what made them move on. That contract has the making of another big mistake and no one in their right mind expected Hyman to be this good in his age 32 season. Like im actually tired of this narrative. Same with the trade Marner narrative. You had all last offseason to move him. They didnt and now they have no choice but to sign him to a big deal. Or like Hyman he moves on and dominates and we repeat with the same hindsight. Something needed to change last off season and Shanny goes and fires the guy who seemed to finally want to make that change. Until he goes nothing changes. You think Treliving is making any moves without his approval? Marner is coming back.
