The Oilers surprised a lot of people by gooning a lot of key Panthers players, when it's generally accepted that Florida are the ones that will goon their way through a series. I'm not sure if Bobrovsky is injured but he's been jumped and sat on a few times, which can be bad if you're stretched out trying to make a save. Draisaitl's flying elbow to the head of Barkov is looking like the turning point in this series.
It's a lot easier to score those goals when McDavid is your center. Hyman was great in Toronto, but in Edmonton, playing with McDavid , he's so much more.
@@jamesbarels469 when mario was playing with scrub wingers, his advice was "go to the net and keep your stick on the ice." this is hyman's role. he's what kunitz was to sid or kevin stevens was to mario. alex burrows to the sedins could be another example. the guy plays a game that complements the star, and that's why it works, but is a far lesser player without them. hyman is the same player he was on the leafs. the difference is he plays with mcdavid now. and his game meshes with 97's game.
@@jamesbarels469 that’s true. it’s not an easy job. standing in front of the net you take a lot of abuse. Every single person knew it was the wrong move to lose Hyman at the time. Go rewatch your episodes. You were against it. It was an insane thing to do and was predicated on your team being so amazing offensively that you don't need him. He didn't become a great player overnight. He wasn't worse than he is now in Toronto. And it was NOT a large amount of money. It was not a large contract at all. It was not the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th time this has happened.

Just went back and watched a video from when it was reported the Leafs would not resign him and are shopping his rights to other teams. Steve literally says losing Hyman is the right move. Adam talks about resigning Hyman the same way Steve talks about keeping Marner now.
I'm gonna say Hyman was never scoring near 50 on the leafs. I guess you can be sad that you gave mcdavid a human backboard but it's not as bad as people think
Are the Florida Panthers going to be relegated to the realm of teams like the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills of the NFL who made it to multiple championship games and have never won the championship?
I also remember a leaf team that was garbage for a major part of my life. I happy to have a team where 82 games I'm pumped to watch. Yes playoffs suck. Git gud. But just saying
Y'all completely ignoring Joel Farabee who's 24. 50PTs playing 3rd line no PP signed 4 more years at 5 per. He's more likely dealt for Chychrun than Konecny.
If you challenge and fail as the Oilers, your expected goals against is 1.059. That means, if you have a >5.6% chance of winning a given challenge, the expected goals against after a challenge is less than 1.000. Ergo, you should take that chance.
Steve, I was SO happy when you said you were done with talking about how wrong rerunning the same Leafs line-up is. I'm heartbroken that you were lying. But listening to the Arizona crap was worse.
When Steve failed to mention about the Flyers/Bruins series was that Krejci got hurt at the end of the third game and missed the last four. He played all four the next year, scoring 9 points.
The 2010 Flyers comeback was all on Beuins. The Bruins in game 7 came out aggressively and built a lead and then period 2the came out in a 1-2-2. I am a Devils fan in Philthy. They beat us in 5 because we played the 1-2-2. Every team the Flyers beat played.a 1-2-2. Also the Flyers had THE WORST ... ABSOLUTE WORST goalie tandem to almost win a cup. As soon as they played a team in the playoffs that did not play a 1-2-2 set uo....the flyers got smoked. .Tonight the Oilers have a chance to win the cup with a very, very agerage goaltending tandem.
You guys should watch the interview flamesnation did with Craig Conroy. He explicitly states that the offers he accepted on the trades were the best available at the time. He references a team that kept saying “maybe the first will be in a few days hold on” but they kept pushing it off and pushing it off for months. You guys are new to Treliving. This is not a Flames thing. This is a Treliving thing. He drags his feet on every trade.
You ca n throwxout every BS STAT there is. TheOukers are blmotvthe best PK In SCO history. The 2000 and 2003 Devils were better at PK .Nurse is a skating .minus
It was the lock out year he was on pace for 36 goals a game. In fact 2 season of 30+ and he wasn't playing on the 1st line. I dunno how Dubas didn't see a $5 value in Hyman but you have Bertuzzi making the same money, granted that was Treliving but still.
About Hyman, it was a mistake back in the day too. Covid and the missing games hide how great Hyman actually was with Toronto. His pace in his last 4 seasons with the leaf was 40pts, 47pts, 59pts and 63pts. Same with his goals, 15 goals, 24 goals, 33 goals, 28 goals. In his last season with Toronto, Hyman was 71st forward in PPG, the 71st most paid players at the time was Saad with 6M$. Hyman at 5.5M$ was a good deal with his offensive production alone, then add his defensive ability, his PK, his work ethics and his positive presence in the team and it was a BIG mistake at the time. People were just blinded by the reduced stats from covid limiting the number of games. It's ridiculous to say that a 30 goals, 60pts player with all those great added qualities was not worth 5.5M$ back then.
Boys Hyman segment; You are GM, Austin Mathews as center. He was good. As Oilers GM trying to win, with Conner Mcdavid. Bet your ass I am takin Hymann. CBJ fan, I would accepted signing that. Guys, core 4 or not you know it, you have a D and goalie problem. Be happy he is involved in historical cup series. My guys, this is so historical Its amazing
Let’s be honest leafs fans were cool with the Hyman contract. The problem was we couldn’t afford it because the core 4 took the cap. Nobody wanted to see him go. On a team that’s not cap strapped 5.5 for a 30 goal scorer is fine. He was on pace for 30 his last 2 seasons in Toronto.
This game is exceptionally large. If Edmonton wins it is the first Canadian win in 30 years, it’ll be the first reverse sweep in how long? AND it’ll be McDavids first cup, likely of many.
The leafs should NOT regret letting Hyman go. Hyman is NOT that good. a Paper clip could score 50 goals playing with McDavid and Leon. For reference, how many goals did Pat Maroon get that year he played with the boys. Prepare for the fall off of Hyman.
I’ll be more surprised if marner does get moved at this point. Clearly ownership and management are just spouting lip service. Loosing guys like Hyman, marchment, verhaege etc all due to the cap not being spent wisely. Management needs to learn how to sell these guys on less contract dollars more endorsement dollars. These guys just being leaf’s can make more then their contracts just on endorsement deals, ask Hyman it’s how he made his money here. As long as the leafs keep taking guys that care more about themselves then the team then this will forever be the result
Wouldn't you say that Hyman would have taken less in Toronto if he cared about the team more than himself? Nope, he went for his pay day in Edmonton, he didn't get what he wanted in Toronto, so he left, he wanted a NTC and Dubas said no, every player wants what they want and they will go elsewhere to get it, not saying that they should have bowed to the core 4, but don't act like Hyman's motives were not self serving
@@northerngurl6178 he was a first line player that had been severely underpaid for years, he made up for it with lots of endorsements, but there’s a difference between being underpaid and taking a discount, 5.5 was a discount…at the time even if he hadn’t continued to grow he was still very fair market value for a guy that did all the things he was doing and continues to do. That all being said he is not the only guy the leafs have lost, if the core 4 had of all signed in the 8-10 range it wouldn’t have been an underpayment but it would have given the team room to keep more then one of those guys.
@deweyw3737 Hyman was looking out for his own best interests, just like everyone else, I get so tired of this martyr attitude everyone has, I wouldn't call him severely underpaid, he's been put on a line with some fantastic players, he's a work horse, I'll give him that, but he's not getting elite money based on his skills, he's average. My whole point again, counter to your argument that he's some saint who puts the team first is untrue, he went for his pay in Edmonton and got it
@@northerngurl6178 you’re counter point is kinda moot, you are the one stuck on hyman, he is one example I used of losing guys for nothing, I never once said he was martyr or any of the crap you’re trying to shovel. You are arguing a point that I wasn’t making….
@@deweyw3737 and I simply stated that Hyman wasn't willing to take less either, nor should he, so I'm not sure why he would be your example, Marchand would be a better example of a player who took a discount
59:19 Hold the phone right there. Habs fan here. I do not give a sh!t about that Boston revenge sweep the year after, I still do remember that reverse sweep in 2010 and I'm still mad about it. The Flyers robbed us of a legendary Habs-Bruins conference finals that year. Then who knows... well, I don't think the Habs would have beaten the Hawks after. But for that potential ECF, I'm still mad a decade and a half later.
The goal review in Game 6 will go down in lore like Jacques Demers calling a stick measurement on McSorley in 1993. Also, Game 7 will be a laugher and there will be plenty of pp's in the third.
Talking about the oilers PK… they’ve outscored Florida 2-1 while Shorthanded this series. I think we’ve killed 44 of our last 45, including a 5 min major.
🧡I am already beyond proud of these Edmonton Oilers. This incredible story started turning around for them back in November, and their journey culminates tonight, 🙏 in a noteworthy finale. I believe in their belief and with that being said: “Go Oilers Go🧡!”
When Steve talks about “teams just wanting to be good enough” really is what did the Red Wings in because they were more concerned about a Playoff Appearance Streak even if it meant being swept in the first round than to retool as our Vets were getting too old and letting promising prospects go to UFA or trade them for what? OLD VETS!
I can't believe how much is on the line for tonight's game 7. Either the Panther lose and we witness the greatest choke in NHL history, or The Oilers and McDavid face a devastating loss after mounting a monumental comeback and being just an arms reach away from winning the cup.
TBH I dont think HYman would've been as good as he is in Toronto. why? Because the reason he is scoring so much is because he's playing with freaking McJesus and Leon.
Hyman could’ve been kept if the Leafs dealt Kerfoot after he was 2nd in playoff scoring that season and/or if they didn’t go out and sign Ritchie and Mrazek. There were ways to hold on to him, Dubas just refused to do so.
It looks crazy that we had a parade for the 92-93 Leafs, but at the time it didn't seem absurd. That run was magic, it came after the worst era of Leafs hockey (at the time) and made Leaf fans out of a lot of us of a certain vintage. They made us feel like the horrors of the Harold Ballard were really and truly done. Also, at the time the Hawks, Rangers and Red Wings still had longer cup droughts and there were still original expansion teams with no cups, so celebrating really good instead of great was not nearly as embarrassing.
Hyman was ok in Toronto. Injuries and playoff performances were what made them move on. That contract has the making of another big mistake and no one in their right mind expected Hyman to be this good in his age 32 season. Like im actually tired of this narrative. Same with the trade Marner narrative. You had all last offseason to move him. They didnt and now they have no choice but to sign him to a big deal. Or like Hyman he moves on and dominates and we repeat with the same hindsight. Something needed to change last off season and Shanny goes and fires the guy who seemed to finally want to make that change. Until he goes nothing changes. You think Treliving is making any moves without his approval? Marner is coming back.
Flyers fans on X today trying to compare this Final to that 2010 choke just dumb 😂. Nothing comes close to losing a 3-0 lead in the final. You could do it in the 3rd round and its not even close to doing it in the final 🤦♂️
You lose 7 out of 8 series, tell me why you'd run it back... Well Steve, we were literally asking you why you claimed that running it back was the right choice after last year...
In hindsight imagine the following; -A few years ago the Leafs traded Marner, Rielly and passed on Tavares. -Kept Kadri and Hyman. -Signed a #1 Goalie and a few great defencemen We would be watching the Leafs playing for the cup.
With this Oiler/Panther game seven we really don't know what the outcome will be. Now, if the Leafs were playing we definitely would know who was losing.
And we keep loosing Marners because it is seemingly smart not to wait a year until Tavares comes off the books. Yes, trading away elite players does require special talent and it is cause for great conversation later on as they move on to succeed. Kadri, Hyman and now Marner, just to name a few.
markstrom is old now. brad knows what would be coming. a 1b at best. which is maybe all the leafs need but w2ith woll's injury history i think you need a 1a
On the flames being children with the leafs, they are like that with the oilers too. Say what you will about ceci but ceci and a 1st is better than a 2nd conditional 3rd that doesn't come through and a b prospect

There is an option were breaking up the core without trading marner they could force out taveras out and clear more cap space . They are not trading marner
Nobody can be shocked Ottawa fans are delusional. They thought they were getting Lucas Raymond for Debrincat 😂
Like all prisoners after years of confinement and suffrage delusion is a symptom of the disease.
I don’t remember Sens fans thinking they were getting Raymond, pretty sure the names I saw being thrown around from their side were Berggren/Soderblum I never saw a sens fan thinking Raymond was coming the other way.
@@golionsgo19 you wanna hear delusional, listen to a wings fan talk about berggren. they don't even use the guy.
"flying elbow" lolololol
a podcast? what day is it today?
It is how Hyman scores his goals that the Leafs miss the most.
It's a lot easier to score those goals when McDavid is your center. Hyman was great in Toronto, but in Edmonton, playing with McDavid , he's so much more.
@@chrisg1556 , not many can play with McDavid and have this sort of success.
@doaftheloaf if scoring greasy goals was that simple and easy Toronto would have more success in the playoffs.
@@jamesbarels469 that’s true. it’s not an easy job. standing in front of the net you take a lot of abuse. I’m just saying that in edmonton he complements 97 better than any player he played with in toronto. it’s not that he’s so much better now than then; it’s that he meshes better in edmonton.
even in his 20 goal form he’s the type of player every team loves to have. but he wouldn’t score 50 anywhere else.
It was not the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th time this has happened.
hyman is as good who is ever pushing the river on his line. the guy works hard for it. a shame the leafs kept the core and let hyman walk. it should have been marner. oilers wouldn't be here. it's probably toronto. as an oiler fan this is what i've learned from this podcast
Guys, the headline had to be “82 years? THAT’S SO MANY YEARS”
Are the Florida Panthers going to be relegated to the realm of teams like the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills of the NFL who made it to multiple championship games and have never won the championship?
hey right at the beginning, no Basu and Godin this week? waiting til after the draft or just didnt mention it or whats up?
I also remember a leaf team that was garbage for a major part of my life. I happy to have a team where 82 games I'm pumped to watch. Yes playoffs suck. Git gud. But just saying
Y'all completely ignoring Joel Farabee who's 24. 50PTs playing 3rd line no PP signed 4 more years at 5 per. He's more likely dealt for Chychrun than Konecny.
50:48 you called Foegele being dumb
If you challenge and fail as the Oilers, your expected goals against is 1.059.
That means, if you have a >5.6% chance of winning a given challenge, the expected goals against after a challenge is less than 1.000. Ergo, you should take that chance.
I think Steve Dangle needs a new nickname.
The Cassandra of the GTA.
Guys, Warner is gonna be an own rental.
I can tell you for sure Florida’s family was only there in Edmonton for game 4; they didn’t travel for game 6
1 powerplay for each team?
so what you're saying is the oilers get 2 powerplays?
how many ex leafs have a ring and their name on the cup.
Failed stick lift as described around 51:00 is a hooking call.
Failed to mention ullmark refuses to waive for Toronto cause Ottawa has better future. Stay mad
STEVE EVERYTHING YOU COMPLAINED ABOUT WAS KYLE DUBAS MOVES. Dubas was a dogshit gm, this isn’t marners fault, this is horrible gm 37:21
It was the lock out year he was on pace for 36 goals a game. In fact 2 season of 30+ and he wasn't playing on the 1st line. I dunno how Dubas didn't see a $5 value in Hyman but you have Bertuzzi making the same money, granted that was Treliving but still.
iirc it was the NMC that killed the resign, not the term or price.
The point I was making is that management needs to get guys to take a bit less knowing they will make more on endorsements then they will their contracts.
OLD VETS!
Adam's Ottawa jokes are pretty good, but no team in the current NHL can joke about goalies less than the Leafs.
The PK wikk kill the Pilers toniggt. Stop ...a percentage here and there??? Please....the Oilers are plating teams not jnown for goal scoring
Steve is wearing a Floorball 2023 Champs shirt. Loooooool. Get over yourself Steve. Nobody cares about ball hockey
Headline.....OILERS VISCOSITY BREAKS DOWN, PANTHERS SLIDE INTO VICTORY!!!!!
A lot of people knew losing Hyman was a terrible mistake. I was angry then and I'm still angry.
In hindsight imagine the following;
-A few years ago the Leafs traded Marner, Rielly and passed on Tavares.
-Kept Kadri and Hyman.
-Signed a #1 Goalie and a few great defencemen
We would be watching the Leafs playing for the cup.
@@rjd9374 I'm glad Kadri is gone honestly but losing Hyman for nothing really sucked.
@@paulthompson8793 technically i think you got a mid round pick for his signing rights.
So for me if the Oilers win and Mcdavid scores the winner (esp if its OT/Late 3rd tied game) the pun title has to be "McResurrection" no?
Re: the 2010 Bruins-Flyers series. The biggest tide-changer was Krejci got knocked out of the series.
11:40 Steve's so RIGHT on this --BOS fan --idk who this FLA team is they look GASSED
So is Adam just commited to mispronouncing everyone's names? Like even the most simple he finds a way... I just don't get it
If the Panthers lose, the comparison that they will get to last season’s Miami Dolphins will be brutal and accurate.. up 3 games and blew it
At 0-3 I said I’d buy a McJesusChrist jersey if they came back and won… I guess we see tomorrow night
THE BERNIER HIT WAS COMPLETE BS ..THE KING PLAYER TOOK A DIVE, ACTED LIKE HE WAS KILLED AND CAME FROM A REF KNOWN FOR KILLING MY DEVILS
markstrom is old now. brad knows what would be coming. a 1b at best. which is maybe all the leafs need but w2ith woll's injury history i think you need a 1a
1:25:10 I can confirm Inside out 2 is one of Pixar's most SUCCESSFUL films in YEARS.
On the flames being children with the leafs, they are like that with the oilers too. Say what you will about ceci but ceci and a 1st is better than a 2nd conditional 3rd that doesn't come through and a b prospect
My bet is five or six penalties in game 7. Though two of those will be coincidentals that don’t result in a PP for either team.
On NHL Mic'd up you can hear Knobloch say right away that it is offside.
Sorry to the Leafs fans, but the Oilers may have 1 more secret weapon for Game 7. Cody Ceci.
dave bolland never played for the bruins and definitely not in 2011 finals against the canucks.
Inside Out 2 has made over 700 million dollars and is literally the highest grossing movie of 2024 so far.
People keep defending this core based on regular season stats / first 3 playoff game performances
They would bring in CSIS not the CIA. The crime did happened in Canada after all.
