      I popped into Rimping in town this morning. It looks like the one you filmed yesterday. I hadn't realised there were several locally and usually use the one in Kad Farang. But good to know of an alternative. Great tip. Cheers!

    Great video and very interesting to watch. When we, my Thai partner visit her family in Thailand, Kanchanaburi province we love to go to Makro in the city to stock up on food and other supplies. Thanks for this video showing various products and prices. I can hardly wait now for our next visit with family including driving out to Makro for those fun shops. Keep up the great work on your channel Jon and yes please do more of these types of videos. Cheers from a Farung from Vancouver, Canada 👍.

    I appreciate these kinds of videos. It's good info. One item I'm curious about that never seems to get mentioned is chicken broth. It seems to be extremely uncommon there. I'm not so concerned with price as availability. It's a pretty significant staple in my cooking. A lot of things I make I can sub in local options easily, but chicken broth as an ingredient is kind of hard to replace.

    • @jondcanton
      @jondcanton  5 месяцев назад

      I think you can get something like that but nothing I’ve bought before. You can get chicken seasoning and make broth with it but it’s probably not the same :)

    I took 2x 200g packets of cinnamon back to the U.K. from the Makro.. baguette in the back pocket on the bike too 👌. Half the price for fresh baguettes than any bakery I could find in the city.

    Interestingly, I don't think those salami prices are out of line with the prices here in the US, assuming quality is decent. Selection seemed respectable for a non specialist store too. I guess they're no different than here, where the foreign food section has grown significantly over the years and prices have come down. As demand goes up it gets more cost effective to import, lowering prices, which then helps demand increase...
    The milk price is a bit high, but not crazy. You'll pay at least that here for regular organic milk or lactose free or anything like that. Regular 1/2 gallons of 2% are about $2, so almost 80TBT. I'm not sure when you were last in the west, but let's just say all our prices have been climbing rapidly on groceries, along with everything else.

    • @jondcanton
      @jondcanton  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah true I’ve not been back to the UK since 2015 so I keep comparing to those prices, I think I’d be in for a shock if I went back 😀

    So much of the "cheap" pricing depends on where you are moving from. When Jon did Rimping he felt the price of cheese was high. However the cheese he showed was equivalent to HKD50. Here in HK that cheese would be HKD125. The same with wine. People say wine is expensive in Thailand, but we have found it only slightly higher than HK. As Jon always says "Depends on what you are looking for."

    • @jondcanton
      @jondcanton  5 месяцев назад
