  • After years of frustration at her corporate job, Flo Nicolas was exhausted and burnt out. But the idea of quitting scared her. She'd never been a quitter before, even when times were tough. So she endured - until even just going through the motions was too much. When she finally quit, though, she discovered something new about herself, and learned to think differently about quitting. In this vulnerable talk, Nicolas describes her experience, and what we can all learn from understanding the power of purposeful quitting. Flo Nicolas is an emerging technology thought leader in the technology industry passionate about promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). As the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of DEI Directive, she is involved in developing a cutting-edge DEI Intelligence Platform that enables human resource and DEI professionals to monitor and measure the impact of their initiatives. Flo's expertise in corporate technology operations has earned her recognition and respect, and she is known for her advocacy of STEM for all, Women in Tech, and Diversity in Tech.

I've done that before, and it took courage. The result was a most important loss ... and gain.

I wonder what the majority of working people, the ones without high level qualifications who are dissatisfied with their employment situation, can learn from this?

My aspiration is for everyone, regardless of their qualifications, to understand that they deserve happiness. You don't need a high salary or an extensive list of educational credentials. Many individuals, including those in entry-level roles, have found fulfillment by pivoting and discovering roles within their skill sets and qualifications. The goal is for anyone, irrespective of their background, to avoid enduring a toxic work environment. You can pursue a career aligned with your passions, providing a sense of purpose. Whether it's being a dog walker, Uber driver, or working in fast food, find your happy place.
